After the best Netflix series? The streaming service's offering of TV shows is so extensive that there really is something for everyone. But with such a vast catalogue comes the classic conundrum plaguing modern streamers: there's just too much choice. We know, how ungrateful we sound! But if you've ever spent 45+ minutes scrolling the endless reels of Netflix series while your dinner gets cold, you'll know what we're talking about.
So, we've taken it upon ourselves to handpick the best Netflix series, spanning every genre from award-winning period dramas to classic sitcoms and cult sci-fi phenomenons. Whether you're in it for the true-crime drama, the feminist comedies, or simply the best in reality TV – we've made sure there's something here to satisfy your desires.
If you're all about romance and a LOT of a tearjerker, watch One Day if you haven't already, or perhaps you fancy a bit of an engimatic Andrew Scott in Ripley.
It follows the story of a mass sperm donor who allegedly fathered 1000 children.

You cannot go wrong with a female-led series, such as Who Is Erin Carter, which is centred on the butt-kicking female lead whose past catches up with her years after she moves from England to Spain. For something a bit more light-hearted, Kristen Bell doesn't disappoint in the parody thriller series The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window.
There's also the wholesome series Virgin River if you just want to switch off, while Beef, starring Ali Wong will have you completely invested in all the emotions. Then there's Maid, a harrowing Netflix drama starring the real-life mother-daughter duo Andie MacDowell and Margaret Qualley. It's about a young woman named Alex, who flees her abusive partner and struggles to make ends meet for her three-year-old daughter, Mady, as she navigates motherhood, PTSD, and looking after her own mother, all whilst working as a full-time cleaner to secure a better future. You'll need all the tissues for this one!

Prior to that, it was Clickbait that had us all in a frenzy – a mind-boggling drama that'll have you at the edge of your seat. The show follows family man Nick Brewer, who's abducted in a crime online with a sinister twist. It's all very creepy, just like we like our dark thrillers.
Or, if you are after one genre, try our pick of the best Netflix documentaries, the scariest horror movies, best LGBTQIA+ series or the best period dramas on Netflix. Sick of TV series? These are the best films on Netflix.

Why watch: It's a gut-wrenching, gripping look at how five young men of colour were victims of a broken justice system and systemic racism – something that director Ava DuVernay reminds us is still very much alive (Trump's reaction is shown through press conference coverage), and how what happened to the Central Park Five back in 1989 could just as easily happen today. - Netflix

It centres on out-of-work actress Ruth (Alison Brie) and her best friend Debbie (Betty Gilpin), who end up cast in the same show and sloughing it out in the ring. But when two female detectives in another state who are investigating a serial rapist hear of Marie's case, they start on the path to trust.
Why watch: It's based on a true story that makes for harrowing and uncomfortable viewing, but that is exactly why it's such a vital show. - Netflix
The One
Who: Hannah Ware, Zoe Tapper & Dimitri Leonidas
What: Love and lies spiral out of control when Rebecca Webb, a DNA researcher and her colleague/business partner James, create a bold and daring new matchmaking service to help people find their one-and-only true love.

- Netflix

Its protagonist is James St. Patrick, who leads a double life: one, as a wealthy, respectable club owner and businessman; the other, as one of the biggest drug lords in New York, who goes by the street name 'Ghost'.
Why watch: Because it's just damn good TV. The numbers speak for themselves – season 5 saw an average of 10.8 million viewers per episode across platforms.- Netflix

Soon, he realises that hordes of seemingly young and healthy people are bringing prescriptions for heavy doses of OxyContin into his pharmacy – and they were all being prescribed by the same woman. He knew there was a problem long before the opioid crisis gained critical attention and set about trying to save the lives of other young people in his community.
Why watch: What sets The Pharmacist apart is that Dan isn't just sitting in a leather armchair recounting what happened – he recorded almost all of it on video cassette and camera at the time, which gives this documentary a gripping immediacy that others lack.

What: If you haven't already watched Netflix's hit teen drama then now is the perfect time to get bingeing. The show centres around Otis, a shy high-school student who is roped into setting up an underground sexual advice clinic – with advice garnered from his sex therapist mother – with his rebellious classmate Maeve.
Why binge: There's nothing quite like it. It normalises subjects which are too often shied-away from – female sexual pleasure, masturbation, orgasm, and just about every sex-related query going – and does it with soul. It's funny, moving, smart and infectious, with a razor-sharp script and a truck-load of charm. After Life
Who: Ricky Gervais
What: Another beloved creation by Ricky Gervais, the comedian brings his trademark black comedy to tackle the topic of grief and death in only a way he can. Tony, who has lost his wife to cancer, vows to live the rest of his life as a mean, prejudiced and arrogant man – hating the world without his beloved partner. It's honest, messy and tender, in the strangest of ways.

Why binge: These characters have some serious chemistry, and with that comes some extra-hot love scenes and some binge-worthy storylines.

Who: Phoebe Dynevor, Regé-Jean Page, Jonathan Bailey, Nicola Coughlan.

Inventing Anna
Who: Julia Garner, Anna Chlumsky.
What: This ten-part drama tells the tale of Anna Delvey, the real-life con-artist who tricked New York’s elite circles into thinking she was a rich German heiress with $60 million to her name. It's wild.
Why binge: Anna's bizarre accent and unforgettable one-liners make the show – on top of the fact it's based on an unbelievable true story. You'll be Googling for hours. - Chris Harris/Netflix
Top Boy
Who: Ashley Walters, Little Simz, Micheal Ward, Kano
What: This gritty London drugs drama has a unique success story – its first two series aired on Channel 4, before being cancelled in 2013. But one famous fan, rapper Drake, loved the show so much that he revived it with Netflix, signing on as producer. Some say the third series is the first… it's a little confusing. Either way, it's a tense gangster thriller you won't be able to quit.
Why binge: It tackles hard-to-watch topics with plenty of social realism, tenderness and even comedy in moments. Thank you, Drake.

Lupin
Who: Omar Sy.
What: Inspired by the adventures of fictional ‘Gentleman Burglar’ Arsène Lupin, Assane Diop sets out to avenge the death of his father. It's French, dubbed in English on Netflix, though we recommend watching with subtitles to hear the actor's true voices. Oui oui.
Why binge: There's comedy, there's mystery, there's a suave French guy pulling off crazy heists. What's not to love? - Saeed Adyani
Grace & Frankie
Who: Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Sam Waterston, Martin Sheen.
What: A fun, silly comedy that takes a refreshing approach to aging. Grace, a sassy retired cosmetics entrepreneur, and Frankie, a kooky artist, are polar opposites – their only common thread is their husbands, who are partners at a law firm. That is, until they announce that they are in love, and have been having an affair for years. Luckily, it's the beginning of a wonderful friendship for Grace & Frankie.
Why binge: File this under ‘The Most Lovable Shows Ever’, alongside the likes of Schitt's Creek and Friends.
