The best small dining tables, perfectly fitting into a bijou kitchen or living space, offer a great alternative when larger dining furniture isn't feasible due to space constraints. With extra square-footage such a precious commodity, it’s safe to say that the majority of us don’t have a dedicated dining room to begin with. And if we do, then chances are we’ve turned it into a home office. So, finding a small space dining table feels like the next best thing.
Don’t get me wrong — sometimes, nothing beats enjoying your pesto pasta from the comfort of your sofa. But on those days where you’ve got guests coming round — or you just feel a little bit fancy — there’s nothing better than laying out your cutest dinner set and finest cutlery, and eating in a proper dining space.
From on-trend pedestal dining tables that’ll seat four at a squeeze, to convertible options that can extend and shrink as needed, we've found a plethora of small dining tables that’ll bring style — and some much needed seating — to your space.

What is the best table shape for a small space?
The style and shape of the table that you choose shouldn’t just be based on your personal aesthetic preferences. If you’re after a table that can be easily tucked into a corner or pushed up against a wall, square or rectangular tables will be your best bet.
Alternatively, round tables not only give the illusion of more space, but they also often just have one central pedestal support, so are far easier to squeeze more people around.
What other features are worth thinking about?
Once you’ve settled on the shape of your table, there are a few other areas features you might want to consider:
- Picking the right size is particularly important if you’re short on space — so make sure you take proper measurements before making any purchases. As tempting as it is to squeeze in a six-seater by any means, don’t make the common mistake of forgetting to make sure you’ve allowed enough space for moving around the table, and pulling out chairs, too.
- Extendable features are definitely worth looking into if you’re after a table that’ll easily rise to the challenge of more guests. Drop-leaf tables have collapsible hinged sides, flip-tops unfold and instantly double your tabletop, and butterfly-leaf tables have an extension stowed within — such as this gorgeous Bjorn Extendable Dining Table.
- The dining seats you choose are also really important, as picking anything too big and clunky will further limit your space. So, look for chairs and benches that’ll comfortably tuck under your table. Alternatively, look for a dining table that comes with seats that are designed to perfectly nest underneath the table — like this Vixen Compact Cube Dining Set.
