Support Kelly's Journey to Recovery and Stability

My name is Kelly and I’m a single mom of two amazing children. I am a teacher’s aide at a daycare.

I was the victim of the 9 hour standoff in Salisbury, MD on June 18th. The man that I loved attacked me, totaled my only vehicle and then barricaded himself in my home for hours. I still have no idea what happened to set him off. He has been in such a good place and was doing really well up until that night. He suffers from mental illness and I was always there to support him. He was always good to me and my children. I thank the heavens that my children were out of state visiting family.

In one night, my whole world was turned upside down. I lost my only car, which was my only means of transportation back-and-forth to work. I am out of work for I don’t know how long which means I can lose my house. If I lose my house, I will lose my kids forever. And I lost the man that I loved.

The important thing is that I survived, my dog is OK, she’s home with me now. I have a long road ahead of me, but I will make it.

The outpour of support from my friends, neighbors, and my family has been amazing. We never think something like this can happen to us but it can.

I know creating a go fund me for yourself is a little cheesy and I am a proud person and I don’t like asking for help. I am in need of help and I have no choice but to ask for it. Please share my story and know that mental health is a serious thing. Until you have to deal with it yourself, you will never truly understand the depth.
