You mean just like Russell Crowe.
I agree about Superman or Thor shadow and big part of Gladiator appeal was that Crowe was relatively unknown, at least in the sense that he didn’t have a career-defining role at that time. So audience could suspend the disbelief and didn’t think it was ________(insert a popular character) in gladiator armor. That said, those actors do have the right physique and whoever is cast as the new gladiator (most likely adult Lucius who may or may not be Maximus’s biological son) better not be a pretty boy like Bloom in Kingdom of Heaven cause audience won’t buy it. This is all about beef. I see that The Last Duel’s duel is praised which is expected cause Damon and Driver have physiques that could carry chainmail and heavy armor. Crowe was like that too. Twinks should stay the **** away from this. About the original: Antonio Banderas and Mel Gibson were considered as General Maximus. I agree Russell Crowe was very muscular in GLADIATOR. I prefer Henry Cavill in GLADIATOR PART II and Adam Driver as The Main Villain

Are they supposed to play Maximus? Then it can be potentially controversial cause Russel Crowe is absolutely iconic in that part.
But Driver’s the best choice out of them. Pattinson’s would be good pick too. Cavill can’t act for shit and like others said Hemsworth is box office poison

That’s my thing, like, why are we debating who should be the lead? Considering Maximus DIED, if this ends up happening, he won’t be in it. They could do Lucius I guess, though Spencer Treat Clark is still active in Hollywood so if they recast the role it would be another Mae Whitman/Independence Day Resurgence moment. Honestly, they could – and probably will – do some random new character, and have it be a spiritual successor with almost no ties to the original.

Driver doesn’t want to be typecast. He turned down Captain Hook in Peter Pan&Wendy and Kraven (that would have been his franchise like Venom plus teamup with the Sinister Six). So doubtful he would play the villain so soon after TLD and his ears don’t agree with Roman haircuts anyway.

He loves A List Directors so maybe he could accept only because is Ridley Scott. But The Main Villain could be older like Daniel Day Lewis. The only thing official is the male lead is a 35-40 year old white male

I don’t think The General Public remembers STC. So, any famous man could be Lucius and The General Public will accept it. ID4 is totally different because Will Smith is a Huge Star Worldwide

NAPOLEON opens this 2022. GLADIATOR PART II opens December 2023. Henry Cavill, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Adam Driver, Robert Pattinson, Ryan Gosling, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy rumoured for The Lead Role
Cavill, Evans, Hemsworth, Pattinson, Gosling, Gyllenhaal are too model pretty for such a masculine role. Crowe was such success precisely because he looked like a manly man of the past. This isn’t just about talent. You either sell the physicality or you don’t. I don’t care that 4 of them played superheroes – that’s all weightless CGI. This is different.
Driver has physicality and is really good with sword stunts but those ears don’t agree with Roman haircut, he and Scott just aren’t a dynamic duo fans hoped for (what’s with working with ancient directors? Try Eggers and Aster for a change), and he has zero boxoffice pull.
Fassbender is too old already and zero boxoffice pull.
Hardy it is. Not an ideal Gladiator but better than the rest. Has the right look at least. Not boyish, not mannequin.
I expect the lead to end up being someone not on the list. Crowe wasn’t a big name when he was cast either.
This likely gonna bomb no matter who they cast, though.
