Gaga and Phoenix will be Warner’s first priority in the acting categories so that alone makes it a contender for those + picture. Could always be another Margot Robbie situation but let’s wait.
I think that Robbie situation happened because her movie played well with only one demo at the boxoffice and I assume AMPAS (there were reports of catastrophic screenings for foreeing members) so other demos didn’t throw their votes in her direction nor that one demo backed her up fully. Joker played much better across demos so AMPAS wasn’t different.
Plus, as an also-run, Robbie was vulnerable to snub. Gaga had that situation (plus MGM campaigning Hudson and Haim at the same time) with HoG and missed.

Which demo was that? Women, girls, ladies, and Greta’s friends?
Jmho but HoG was terrible all ’round. Except the hair and costumes, which are forgettable.

Why have y’all refused to understand that the snub had nothing to do with the studio or even the film? Gaga missed because it was only a follow-up to ASIB. They don’t give out nominations like the Grammys. This is why she should do more movies so it won’t look like they’re nominating her for everything every three years. She would have won with Gucci. People can condemn the movie all they want, but her competition weren’t in better movies. Anyway, she got the most iconic snub of all time and that’s in the records. Wishing her the best with Joker

July 5, 2024 at 5:59 pm #1205878853“She’s so good in it, you guys,” said Maisler. “She’s going to blow your mind. I didn’t suggest Lady Gaga. It wasn’t my idea. That was Todd Phillips, before me. But I will tell you, she’s really surprising — and really good. I saw it and I was really surprised. I mean, we all knew what she could do in A Star is Born, but I thought, ‘Oh, well, that’s kind of in her wheelhouse.’ Something she could do and just be real. But this… Man, she’s good. Joaquin blows your mind, but that she could keep up with him, and be real — and not just wiped off the screen by what that role is and what the performance is — shows she’s good.”
She’s coming to EAT.

Paul AtreidesJuly 5, 2024 at 7:36 pm #1205878908Very, very encouraging. This is someone connected to the film, but it seems real like it’s just something she’s sharing with some insiders. She has a reputation too, I don’t think she’d rave like this if she didn’t really believe it.

Yes, but still, she worked in the movie, I need someone who didn’t work in the movie to tell me if it was amazing or trash

Gaga very likely missed because she didn’t get enough #1 votes but she might have appeared in more overall ballots in 3rd or 4th place and having missed by very little points, especially when Penelope Cruz and Kristen Stewart were throwing tones of private screenings at the last minute because they were in urge to get votes at that point, whereas Gaga felt locked.
And yes the other contenders weren’t in better movies, the IMDB rate of HOG is the 6,5 range like the others who got nominated and even win.
July 6, 2024 at 1:39 pm #1205879393The films HoG was up against had multiple nominations for Director and Picture or both. They also received nominations in the acting categories, leaving HoG bereft.
I have no issue with the hair and makeup nom but Al Pacino deserved the Razzie for his caricature of an OTT perf.
I’m not sure I understand the admiration for this movie, one of Scott’s worst and one that didn’t do Gaga nor any of the actors any favors. Maybe regionally.

giving a singer a second acting nomination only for her second film would have been seen as an overkill. We saw the snub coming, but the BAFTA gave us hope. They felt pity for Stewart as she was the most drastic drop from a frontrunner status. I don’t believe in all of these vote nonsense. They just decide who they’d nominate. Gaga would have won if given a chance cos SAG would have given it to her
