July 1, 2024 at 10:35 pm #1205876111It was rough to find 5 directors with Queer and Sacred Fig missing
Almodóvar
Audiard
Baker
Villeneuve
Berger
That was quite easy. Yes, I know, only ONE US director and then 1 Spanish, 1 French, 1 Canadian and 1 German… but only one of them, for a Foreign Language film… 2 of them are previous Oscar nominees for Director, and both are felt like long overdue for a win (specially Almodóvar, who’s a living legend and maybe the best actors director ever)

Blitz has no distributor, and yet it is in the predictions center.
It makes no sense to leave out films that are expected to be released this year. Queer and Maria need to be added in. They can be removed later if needed.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 2, 2024 at 3:54 pm #1205876824Blitz was announced yesterday as an Apple Original Films production which will have a limited release in November.
We will not add in any film until it has a distributor and at least an approximate 2024 release date. We’ve been following this procedure for many, many years.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 2, 2024 at 4:38 pm #1205876864We’ve been following this procedure for many, many years.
But you chose to open up the predictions center earlier this year. What’s the point in early predictions when major contenders are blocked from being predicted.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 2, 2024 at 5:14 pm #12058768982 days earlier than last year.
We have our procedures and will always follow them. Every time there is a change, addition or deletion, we make immediate changes. There will be many, many updates between now and November (as there always are).
Many of you were screaming last year over the lack of “Lee” and “Hit Man” in the predictions center. We said that they would be added when appropriate, and as you know, they were pushed into 2024.
Several years ago, I’ve never heard so many complaints as when we refused to add “The Wife” (after festival raves) and Glenn Close. Sony Classics picked up the film but they would not give anyone a date. That film also got pushed into the following year.
And those are just 3 examples of us patiently waiting on new information before being reactionary.
We follow the suggestions and advice of the studios and their campaigners. There will always be plenty of changes along the way. I have no doubt that the films you are requesting will be released this year, but they will not be added until made official.

July 2, 2024 at 5:43 pm #1205876922We’ve been told 2025, but it can be added for this year if they make a change.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 3, 2024 at 3:48 am #1205877132I know it’s a long shot and maybe just to please us fans, but is it possible to add Glenn Close for The Deliverance (in Supporting). Already has a release date, Lee Daniels is out there for her. Even if she goes the Nicole in The Paperboy way, it might go somewhere. Or not…
ReplyCopy URLJuly 3, 2024 at 9:09 am #1205877292Many of you were screaming last year over the lack of “Lee” and “Hit Man” in the predictions center.
No sensible person ever thought Hit Man would be an Oscar thing. I really don’t see the harm in adding possible major contenders though, the predictions center is always clogged with films/actors that have 0% chance.
Mainly, it’s not a good look when other prediction outlets DO allow people to predict everything. It makes Goldderby less relevant, as this site is now behind the curve in being able to predict the nominees, and those other outlets will surely advertise it: “we correctly predicted Queer, Maria, etc while Goldderby didn’t even have them as an option for months.”
