How would you rank the nominees for Best Actress?
-Helen Hunt for As Good as It Gets (winner)
-Helena Bonham Carter for The Wings of the Dove
-Julie Christie for Afterglow
-Judi Dench for Mrs Brown
-Kate Winslet for Titanic
I wonder if Kate Winslet was the expected winner due to the success of Titanic… Was Helen Hunt winning a surprise? I haven’t seen all these films yet, I’ll post my ranking when I do, but I’m very interested in your thoughts.

She was the predicted winner although a lot of people thought it could have gone to Judi Dench as well. It was a two way race. Winslet was third in line to win and people thought that she could win only if there was a clean sweep by Titanic although some felt the Academy Members would reward the film at other place and not through newcomer Winslet. Helena Bonham Carter’s chances of a win had evaporated weeks ago after she lost GG to Judi Dench. Christie was #5.
Thank you for your reply! Interesting info.

They were all good. Can’t rank them.
