Shucked is closing? I thought it was doing well. I don’t suppose it recouped.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 13, 2023 at 8:37 pm #1205581309Rumor has it Shucked is looking to move to a new theater after it closes at the Nederlander, but whether such a theater will be available remains to be seen. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/shucked-broadway-theater-1235617409/
ReplyCopy URLOctober 13, 2023 at 8:44 pm #1205581314I think the Longacre or the Lyceum would be a good fit for Shucked. Those two houses need a tenant. I’d suggest a Nederlander house but none are available (the Palace is still under reconstruction).

It’s doubtful the show will continue much beyond the New Year anyway. I’m glad it got the run it did.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 28, 2023 at 1:11 pm #1205595111By new year, KA will have racked up 476 performances, a respectable run. I’m still not sure it recouped. Is there a list of which Broadway shows turned a profit?
ReplyCopy URLOctober 28, 2023 at 1:27 pm #1205595121There’s usually news reports whenever a Broadway production recoups its investment. Nothing’s been announced regarding Kimberly Akimbo yet.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 28, 2023 at 1:49 pm #1205595140Has someone compiled a list of hits and flops?
ReplyCopy URLOctober 28, 2023 at 5:42 pm #1205595191Its weekly gross has likely been barely enough to cover the nut, even for a smaller-scale show. It didn’t get much of a Tony bump and there were many weeks it likely lost money. Of course, Broadway finances vary wildly, but I would be shocked if Kimberly is anywhere near recouping. If anything, it will be a long game, with regional licensing based on the Broadway run and the awards paying back over time.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 28, 2023 at 8:23 pm #1205595307I can envision KA playing in smaller theaters, though they need a really good cast to pull it off. It doesn’t seem like it could play in high schools, given the moral ambiguity and foul language. Maybe colleges would pick it up.
