In a recent interview by RuPaul for Marie Claire, Country music legend Dolly Parton revealed that “I’m still working on my life story as a musical, and so I’m not sure if I want to do it as a feature-film musical or if I do want to go ahead and do it on Broadway.”

ReplyDecember 8, 2020 at 2:34 pm #1203903999I’m over the bio-musical thing, but her life story could work. Especially if they leave it to the early years. (I mean, ever since 1980, she’s been a huge success, so where’s the conflict?)

Like how I think the Madonna film should end up with her performance of Holiday on Dick Clark / “rule the world”. That’s why if Dolly life story does happen I think it should end (at Max) with her deciding to leave The Porter Waggoner Show and close on I Will Always Love You.
Leave the audience going out on a high

https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Bartlett-Sher-Will-Direct-Broadway-Bound-Dolly-Parton-Musical-HELLO-IM-DOLLY-20240702Very interesting given that Sher doesn’t usually take on these kinds of projects.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 2, 2024 at 12:06 pm #1205876641I was waiting for it to be Michael Greif or Diane Paulus. Sher seems an odd choice, but Dolly has been pretty darn successful picking collaborators in her career, so I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt.
