Son Ye Jin’s acting comeback project revealed:

Son Ye Jin is set to star in The Ax, an upcoming thriller film being helmed by Park Chan Wook of Decision to Leave fame, according to Variety. According to Son Ye Jin’s agency MSteam Entertainment (via Soompi), the actress has been positively reviewing the film, which would mark her first-ever collaboration with the acclaimed filmmaker.

Alongside Son Ye Jin, The Ax will also star Squid Game actor Lee Byung Hun and Hospital Playlist actor Yoo Yeon Seok, according to Sports DongA and Soompi. Lee Byung Hun and Yoo Yeon Seok — who have previously worked together in Mr. Sunshine — are currently in talks for the new film, which would be their first time working with Son Ye Jin.

Lee Byung Hun has worked with Park Chan Wook in the past in Joint Security Area and Three… Extremes. As for Yoo Yeon Seok, the actor has a special connection to the veteran director as the actor made his acting debut in Park Chan Wook’s cult classic Oldboy.

According to Sports DongA and Soompi, Park Chan Wook has spent several years preparing for The Ax. The production team is currently sorting out copyright issues surrounding the movie, as it’s reportedly based on an original project.
