1. Paatal Lok

Like Mirzapur, the official release date of Paatal Lok season two has been a long time coming. The gritty series, which features Jaideep Ahlawat as the jaded Inspector Hathi Ram and Ishwak Singh as the idealistic Ansari, takes viewers to the dark underbelly of Indian society, where violence, corruption and conspiracy are rife. The new season is also expected to have Tillotama Shome, Jahnu Barua, Nagesh Kukunoor, Gul Panag and Anurag Arora as part of the cast.

2. Narcos

Power, politics and one incorrigible drug lord — seems like a pretty apt way to describe Pablo Escobar and his sprawling kingdom. Violence and gore, especially towards rivals and other kingpins, all clamouring for the hot seat, is like nature’s second calling in this binge-worthy series.

3. Sacred Games

When troubled police officer Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) gets a phone call telling him he has 25 days to save Mumbai, he doesn’t know where to begin. With some prompting by criminal overlord Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), he embarks on a cat-and-mouse game with the absconding gangster that takes him through the seedy underbelly of the city and makes him unravel a series of conspiracies that trail all the way to the top.

4. Peaky Blinders

Like in Mirzapur, gangsters abound in plenty in this engrossing crime drama series starring Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy and others. The show is set in 1920s Birmingham. Tommy Shelby (Murphy) and his brothers, all newly returned post serving in World War I, start a notorious gang called the ‘Peaky Blinders’, where they (illegally) take over the administration of the city, and set their sights, next, on London. However, the road to glory comes with its fair share of (bloodied) obstacles.

5. Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo

Deep within the fictional milieu of Runjh Pradesh, a family ruled by a powerful matriarch (played by the indomitable Dimple Kapadia) runs the biggest drug cartel in South Asia. With a total spin on the saas-bahu dynamic, Rani Cooperative, which fronts as a herbs and dolls-making enterprise, is a thriving business run by women. However, when power-hungry rivals step foot in their door, things take a gory turn indeed.

6. Aarya

This Emmy-nominated series starring Sushmita Sen has only gotten more violent with each passing season. Aarya Sareen (Sen) may have been thrust into this world of drug-peddling by forced circumstance, but now she’s a kingpin running the illegal business with the ease of someone born into this role. However, every season has her facing a dangerous new enemy hell-bent on killing her family and destroying her empire. The question is — how far will she go before truly losing herself to the dark side?

7. Rangbaaz

Based on the real story of Shri Prakash Shukla, a powerful and feared mobster and contract killer who terrorised Uttar Pradesh in the ‘90s, Rangbaaz follows the rise of criminal Shri Prakash Shukla from when he was a young ambitious youth studying in Delhi, to his foray into organised crime and politics. Like in Mirzapur, the storyline is rife with treacherous alliances, dangerous rivals, and personal conflicts.
