Big Number

$165M

Deadpool & Wolverine is tracking to open to at least $160 million to $165 million domestically over the July 26-28 weekend, with plenty of upside. That would be the best start of the year to date, as well as the biggest launch ever for an R-rated title. It would also be a needed boost for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the superhero genre in general. Full story.

Bridgerton Reigns

Season three of the Regency-era drama moved into Netflix’s all-time top 10 for English-language series after seven weeks. The streamer’s users worldwide have watched the equivalent of 91.9 million complete runs of the season, putting it in 10th place — just behind season two of Bridgerton. All three seasons of the show now rank in the all-time top 10 — making it the only one on the list with more than two (Spain’s Money Heist also has three entries in the non-English top 10). Netflix bases its all-time top 10 on 13 weeks of viewing and season three of Bridgerton has been out for about half that, so it’s likely to move up a couple of spots by the end of its ranking window.

‘Twisters’: Mother Nature Is the Biggest Draw for Audiences

Never underestimate the allure of Mother Nature. A recent poll conducted by David Herrin’s The Quorom found that tornadoes — and not the movie’s talent — are the chief reason moviegoers want to see Universal’s upcoming summer tentpole Twisters, which hopes to turn into a category five-plus storm when it opens domestically on July 19. Europeans are still crazy for their soccer, but record TV ratings for the Euro 2024 championships haven’t had a major impact on the box office. This past weekend saw second-round matches for Euro 2024 pull in huge audiences across most of Europe’s biggest markets, with the U.K., Italy and Spain recording best-ever figures for the […]
