No apologies necessary.
TruTV has renewed Andrea Savage’s scripted comedy I’m Sorry for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The half-hour series will return in 2018 with new episodes.
Created by the Veep actress and comedian and partially inspired by her life, I’m Sorry follows a seemingly confident, together comedy writer, wife and mom named, yes, Andrea (Savage), who comically exposes her inner immaturity and neuroses through unexpected life situations, along with her straitlaced husband Mike (Tom Everett Scott), and their inquisitive daughter Amelia (Olive Petrucci).
“I couldn’t be more ecstatic to continue to apologize to all of my closest friends and family for bringing even more humiliation upon us,” said the actress.
Savage exec produces the series with Joey Slamon, Gloria Sanchez’s Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, and Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer.

“Andrea tells relatable and hysterical stories in a way that’s genuine to her comedic point of view. She’s got a refreshing take on the awkward, hilarious moments that we all experience as grownups and it’s clearly resonating with viewers,” said truTV head of programming Marissa Ronca. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with her on a second season.”
While season one has been averaging 454,000 viewers with three days of delayed viewing factored in, the comedy has seen 32 percent growth since its July 12 premiere.
The half-hour has also earned warm reviews, including from THR chief TV critic Tim Goodman. “Early on the show feels like it’s already in rhythm, which is a nice surprise,” he wrote.
TruTV is one of several cable networks and streaming platforms that have thrown their hat into the scripted space in recent years (while others, like A&E, have already abandoned the scripted playing field). I’m Sorry is the Turner network’s second scripted series following Those Who Can’t. This October, truTV will launch At Home With Amy Sedaris.
The first season of I’m Sorry wraps on Sept. 6.
