Getty ImagesDaisy Ridley left Instagram after sharing an anti-gun violence post Monday, possibly due to a backlash in user responses.
The Star Wars: Force Awakens star posted a message to her social media platforms, including Facebook. She has more than 738,000 followers on Facebook where her post remained for most the day Wednesday before also being deleted.
“Thinking about how lucky I am like……… Serious bit: as I sat in the audience yesterday [Teen Choice Awards] tears were streaming down my face at the tribute to those that have been lost to gun violence. I didn’t get a great picture of the incredible group that came onstage but they were so brave. It was a true moment of togetherness. We must ?#stoptheviolence?,” she wrote on Facebook.
Jessica Alba called for an end to gun violence when she appeared onstage during the awards show with a group of teenagers related to victims of recent shootings around the country.
Ridley was also criticized on Facebook for the post, but a lion’s share of the comments were those praising her words and asking her to return to Instagram so the “haters” didn’t win.
Neither Ridley’s rep nor Instagram returned a request for comment.
Ridley is not the first celebrity to step away from social media due to an onslaught of vicious negativity.
Ghostbusters reboot star Leslie Jones personally talked to Twitter founder Jack Dorsey after she took a break from the platform because she was bombarded with hateful, racist comments around the time the film was coming out.
Twitter stepped in and permanently banned the ringleader of the hate aimed toward Jones. The actress has since come back to Twitter.
