After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things (which is also the last season of the show) finally went into production at the start of the year and has now passed the halfway point of its twelve month shooting schedule… and to mark the occasion, Netflix has released a promo video that gives a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of this new batch of episodes. You can watch this promo in the embed above. It has also been announced that Nell Fisher (Evil Dead Rise), newcomer Jake Connelly, and Alex Breaux (Joe Pickett) have joined the cast.

The 1986 war drama "Platoon" was Oliver Stone's fourth film as a director, but it proved to be his breakout in the public consciousness. Before 1986, Stone helmed two horror movies and a biopic of war photographer Richard Boyle ("Salvador"), but "Platoon" put him on the map. It was nominated for eight Academy Awards, and won four, including Best Picture and Best Director. Stone immediately emerged as an enfent terrible, ready to interrogate and criticize previously romanticized American institutions. He also became wildly ambitious, seemingly possessing the temerity to assume his films would change the way the public thinks. In some cases, he was right.
Stone wore his politics on his sleeve, and often spoke about how much he hated the American right wing. Two of his films are deeply critical biopics of Republican presidents, and several of his more recent documentaries analyze politicians in power. He has turned his lens on Vladimir Putin,...

Exclusive: Actor-producer Matthew Modine and Adam Rackoff’s Cinco Dedos Peliculas production company have signed on as executive producers of I Hope This Helps!, a documentary that explores the promise and peril of artificial intelligence.
Writer-director Daniel Freed enlisted Google’s AI chatbot Bard to help create the documentary, described as a “humorous, genre-bending hybrid film” that invites viewers to ponder “the evolving relationship between humanity and technology.”
Responding to prompts from the filmmaker, Google’s Bard fashioned a furry blue creature with big eyes to (one imagines) lessen the menacing specter of AI.
‘Stranger Things’ star Matthew Modine attends an event in London for ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ on December 14, 2023.

A down-on-his-luck coach or mentor assembling a bunch of underdogs and taking them to glory has to be the most common sports film template. Then we have these self-searching adventure films where one individual or a group takes a journey somewhere in search of purpose. Hard Miles, directed by R.J. Daniel Hanna, happens to be a mix of both of these kinds. Naturally, it appears to be conventional and familiar, but that doesn’t mean it’s not rewarding. In many ways, this genre itself is like a comforting cheeseburger. If it’s done right, it’s always going to work, and it certainly doesn’t matter if you’ve had it thousands of times before. This film is a profound example of that. It is, obviously, inspired by this real person, Greg Townsend, and his incredible story. Matthew Modine (Dr. Brenner from Stranger Things is how most of you know him) plays the part,...

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things (which is also the last season of the show) finally went into production at the start of the year and is now six months into its twelve month shooting schedule… and cast member Maya Hawke, who joined the show in season 3 to play Robin Buckley, told Podcrushed that each of the eight episodes is so long, it’s like they’re making eight movies.
Hawke said (with thanks to Deadline for the transcription), “Our showrunners, Matt and Ross (Duffer), take a lot of responsibility. They have an amazing team of writers, but they’re very involved. They write a lot and they are very intense and serious about the quality of the continued writing, and it takes a long time to write each season, and it takes a long time to shoot them.

Matthew Modine, renowned for his role as Pvt. Joker in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, recently took issue with Amazon Prime Video for altering the film’s iconic poster. The 1987 war film, helmed by the legendary director Stanley Kubrick, originally featured a French petite theatrical movie poster with a helmet inscribed with the phrase Born To Kill. Modine’s backlash began when he observed that Prime Video had removed the phrase from the poster, replacing it with a plain helmet. He expressed his dismay on X (formerly Twitter), stating, Who decided to remove ‘Born To Kill?’ Not only did they alter...

This article contains spoilers for all seasons of Stranger Things.
Stranger Things excels where other dramas falter because it always gives the audience the feeling of a continuous story. Creators The Duffer Brothers set out to elevate the medium with long-form science fiction, deep characters, and Hollywood-quality special effects. Instead of each episode representing a chunk of the season and operating standalone, Stranger Things moves like an extra-long movie. The ebb and flow of the plot is paced to perfection, blending each character’s synopsis into the other and crafting an eight-hour masterpiece.
This stylistic decision makes it harder to create “best episode” lists for the series and makes it obvious when the writers detour for a contrarian type of episode. No hour in Stranger Things is maligned like season 2’s “Chapter 7: The Lost Sister.” With a measly 6.1 rating on IMDb and plenty of nasty reviews littering the internet,...

One of the central conceits in one of Stanley Kubrick’s most popular works will be restored on Prime Video after mysteriously disappearing. There has been an uproar in the past few days when the helmet in the poster for Full Metal Jacket appeared without the phrase “born to kill” on it, fueled by a social post by the actor who wore the helmet in the movie, Matthew Modine.
As of midday Wednesday, the altered art was still up on the movie’s Prime Video landing page. Following inquiries by Deadline to both Amazon and Full Metal Jacket distributor Warner Bros., the updated poster was replaced by a still from the movie.
According to sources, Warner Bros. has asked that the “detail page” for Full Metal Jacket be updated to reflect the original art. See below photos of the movie...

If you were looking to rent or buy Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket on Amazon Prime, you might find yourself wondering if Private Joker was truly “Born To Kill” after all, as his helmet sarcastically says. That’s because the streamer has pulled a move that will make you angrier than R. Lee Ermey: they have removed that slogan from the promotional art.
This alteration caught the attention of Matthew Modine himself, who played J.T. “Joker” Davis in Full Metal Jacket. Taking to social media, the actor wrote: “Who decided to remove “Born To Kill?” Not only did they alter a piece of iconic art by Philip Castle, but they completely misunderstood the point of it being there. Pvt. Joker wears the helmet with “Born To Kill” and the peace button as a statement about “the duality of man.””

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things (which is also the last season of the show) finally went into production at the start of the year and is now six months into its twelve month shooting schedule… and according to cast member Jamie Campbell Bower, who joined the show in season 4 as the supernatural villain Henry Creel / Vecna, the episodes that make up the final season of Stranger Things are out of control and completely insane.
During an interview on iHeart’s I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy Didario, Bower said (with thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the transcription), “If you thought last season was nuts, this season is just out of control, wild, like it’s bonkers. While the '80s have different levels of fame, perhaps the greatest gift it gave was The Brat Pack, a group of young, up-and-coming actors often seen on film together and occasionally off-screen.
What actors belong to the group varies by who you ask. Some people consider the members to be those listed by reporter David Blum in his now infamous 1985 article in the New York Magazine.
But 1980s Brat Pack fans have their own list of eight core members we grew up watching act together. It started with The Breakfast Club and then St. Elmo's Fire.
Now, they're on some of our favorite movies and series. But regardless of what they do, they're often still associated with belonging to the Brat Pack.

Many things made the 1980s a unique decade, including big hair, brightly colored outfits, and MTV music videos.
The movies of the '80s were especially iconic. This decade gave us The Goonies, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, and many more greats.
It was also the period when the Brat Pack was taking Hollywood by storm.
The Era of Teen Movie Cast Repetition
On February 15, 1985, the John Hughes classic coming-of-age teen flick The Breakfast Club, about five teens stuck in Saturday detention, premiered.
A few months later, St. Elmo's Fire was released.
It was another hit movie about the ups and downs of relationships and love featuring stars like Andrew McCarthy.

Congratulations are in order for Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi, who got married, Jon Bon Jovi announced.
According to People, the 20-year-old Stranger Things star and the model, 22, tied the knot in a small ceremony last weekend.
During an interview on BBC’s The One Show on May 28, Bon Jovi was asked how the newlyweds were doing, to which he replied, “They’re great.”
“They’re absolutely fantastic,” he continued. “It was a very small family wedding, and the bride looked gorgeous, and Jake is happy as can be. Yeah, it’s true.”
Brown and Bongiovi have yet to publicly confirm or comment on their nuptials.

Modine plays amateur cyclist and teacher Greg Townsend, leading troubled teenagers on a gruelling journey across Colorado in a real-life-inspired drama
‘I’ve never had a bike before,” says a teenage boy, grinning from ear to ear. This earnest, likable drama is inspired by the real-life amateur cyclist Greg Townsend, a teacher at a Colorado young offenders educational institution. For years, Townsend led boys on 700-mile bike tours from Denver to the Grand Canyon, sleeping out under the stars. His story has been fictionalised here into a formulaic sports movie that unfolds predictably, exactly on cue, with no surprises or upsets. But I warmed to its sensitivity; it possesses an insistence that these difficult boys are vulnerable and scared kids (undermined only slightly by the fact that the actors playing them look well into their 20s).
Matthew Modine is Townsend, who understands childhood trauma. In flashbacks, we watch him repeatedly...

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, 20, and Jake Bongiovi, 22, son of music icon Jon Bon Jovi, tied the knot in a private ceremony. The couple had a small wedding ceremony last weekend, and their close family was in attendance. Brown and Bongiovi plan on having a larger ceremony this year but are already legally married.
Brown and Bongiovi engaged in April 2023, two years after starting their relationship in 2021. Brown announced the engagement via an Instagram post, which showed Brown wearing an engagement ring in Bongiovi’s embrace. The news sparked a mixed response from fans. Some were ecstatic for the couple, while others expressed concern over Brown’s young age.
Bongiovi’s father defended the couple, saying, “I don’t know if it matters. You know, if you find the right partner and you grow together, I think that would be my advice really. Growing together is wise.”

Pacific Heights has mixed aspects of status culture, domestic and psychological thriller, giving us an intense, melodramatic, and juicy entry into one of the best subgenres. Add to that a surprisingly energetic directing style, alongside Michael Keaton going full psycho, and you get a decent early 90s Thriller. Today on Revisited, we head back to the 90s and dig into Lance Vlcek’s second entry into his Domestic Thriller Trilogy.

As everyone knows, Tom Cruise leads an action-packed life akin to that of a movie star. The actor enjoys a good thrill, and he performs almost all of his own stunts. And it was his dedication that led him to accept one of his most prominent roles, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, in the 1986 action flick Top Gun.
So, in the case of this Paramount Pictures film, the actor had an unusual demand that ultimately saved the film from disaster. Well, after a less-than-ideal experience working with director Ridley Scott on the movie Legend, Cruise was understandably cautious about committing to a new project.
When producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer approached him with the script for Top Gun, Cruise liked it but felt that it “needed some work”.

For the past three years, the American Cinematheque has presented “Bleak Week,” an annual festival devoted to the greatest films ever made about the darkest side of humanity. This year, the festival will not only be unspooling in Los Angeles June 1 – 7 — with special guests including Al Pacino, Lynne Ramsay, Charlie Kaufman, and Karyn Kusama — but will travel to New York for the first time with a week of screenings at the historic Paris Theater starting June 9.
“We are honored to co-present ‘Bleak Week: New York’ in partnership with one of the most beautiful movie palaces in the world,” Cinematheque artistic director Grant Moninger told IndieWire. “This year, over 10,000 people will attend ‘Bleak Week: Year 3’ in Los Angeles, proving that audiences are hungry for such powerful and confrontational cinema. Many people thought they were alone in their desire to explore films with uncomfortable truths, but the truth is that they are part of a large community,...

In a video that circulated on X Wednesday, Robert De Niro can be seen yelling at a crowd while Jesse Plemons looks on from the sidelines. The video, taken by an unknown outlooker, was reposted by several pro-Israel accounts that subtitled De Niro’s dialogue and began circulating it, claiming that De Niro was shouting at pro-Palestinian protestors and referring to the Israel-Hamas War that started Oct. 7.
But the veteran actor was actually rehearsing a new Netflix show on location, his representative Stan Rosenfield confirmed. “What was seen was erroneous reports of Robert De Niro supposedly yelling at a group of anti-Israeli protesters,” Rosenfield said.

Nathan Zellner and David Zellner’s Sasquatch Sunset is stomping into circa 850 theaters this weekend after debuting in 9 with a solid opening for a film many could find weird. A tribe of Sasquatch, possibly the last of their kind, live and love in the woods of northern California, where it was shot.
“We are taking Bigfoot to America. We have high hopes that the broader market will embrace the movie,” says Kyle Davies of distributor Bleecker Street, calling it “a very different” kind of movie and “a bit of an unknown.”
“It’s a wildcard.”
Marketing was mainly through social activations. “I wouldn’t call it traditional marketing. It doesn’t really fit in that box,” Davies adds. The Sasquatch standees in theaters are fun. And Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar is displaying a baby Sasquatch sitting in a glass case with umbilical cord and placenta.
This is “a polarizing film.

A grueling two-pedal route to the Grand Canyon just might provide the course-correction male juvenile offenders need in “Hard Miles.” With Matthew Modine as their teacher-coach, this fact-inspired tale covers familiar redemptive sports drama terrain. But it’s traveled with affectingly understated assurance by director R.J. Daniel Hanna (“Miss Virginia”) and a strong cast, making for a satisfying scenic ride that picked up several festival audience awards last year.
In a film loosely based on the life and work of his character’s offscreen namesake, Modine plays avid cyclist Greg Townsend, welding instructor at a medium-security correctional residential school in Colorado. That job environment is no picnic, given volatile students who can go from bantering to insults to fistfights in a flash. Plus he’s got his own demons to wrestle with — there are flashbacks to an abused childhood, and phone calls from an incarcerated brother keep urging Greg to...

Chicago – The journey of a thousand miles begins … in the case of “Hard Miles” starring Matthew Modine … with a single pedal. “Hard Miles” joins the pantheon of cycling movies, in this case with Modine portraying a social worker who teaches his life lessons through a bicycling journey with his youthful charges.
The based-on-truth story features Greg (Modine) as a beleaguered social worker at a Colorado juvenile correctional cente, with a passion for bicycle challenges and a revelatory idea for rehabilitation … rounding up an unlikely crew of incarcerated students to complete a transformative 762 mile ride from Denver to the Grand Canyon. To achieve their goal, this determined mentor and his disgruntled teenage squad will battle heat stroke, speed wobbles, mountainous inclines, and most of all each other to come together as a unified team.

What's the worst Stanley Kubrick movie? If you could ask Kubrick himself, he'd likely tell you the answer is "Fear and Desire," his debut feature. And by most accounts, "Fear and Desire" is definitely near the bottom of the list when it comes to Kubrick films. It's a clunky, clumsy movie that Kubrick himself called "a presumptuous failure." He also stated: "It's not a film I remember with any pride, except for the fact it was finished."
Kubrick disliked the film so much that he would've been happy if no one actually watched it. By some accounts, the filmmaker even tried to destroy the film. Eventually, its copyright lapsed and it fell into the public domain for all to see — provided anyone could find a print. Which they couldn't — until 1994. That year, a version of the film was found and...

The series is produced by Manilla-based BlackOps Studios Asia, headed by Pedring Lopez, who is known for Netflix’s Maria, Darkroom and Geisha of Death and also leads Psyops8. Lopez directs all eight episodes of the first season.
Blue Fox is handling sales, including the Philippines, and will be screening the pilot episode for buyers at MIPTV as it moves into TV distribution. Filipino producer Abs-cbn was initially attached to the show, but we hear it is no longer involved.

Netflix is continuing to roll out its celebration of iconic films, this time turning the page to 1984.
As part of the streaming platform’s “Milestone Movies: The Anniversary Collection,” Netflix has unveiled the 1984 films celebrating their 40-year anniversary in 2024 with classics like “Footloose” and “Sixteen Candles” alongside Oscar contenders “Amadeus” and “Iceman.”
The Milestone Movies hail from Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, and Sony — the distributors that license content to Netflix.
Starting today, April 1, 2024, Netflix subscribers can revisit Brian de Palma’s erotic noir “Body Double” and Kevin Bacon’s breakout performance in “Footloose.” How about a double feature? There’s also “Repo Man” and “Beverly Hills Cop,” streaming just in time for franchise reboot “Beverly Hills Cop: Axle F” out this summer.
In addition to the cinematic celebrations in your Netflix queue, in-person special screenings of select films will continue at the Paris Theater in New York and Los Angeles...

The season of the very first sign of the zodiac is here, and that’s exactly why being a leader comes so easy for Aries folks.
And that’s no joke, Aries really don’t know what else to be but a boss, CEO or innovator, because they’d rather play by their own rules. They march to the beat of their own drum and rarely ever need anyone to play backup instrumentals. Their charm, playful personality and great sense of humor make up for their impulsiveness and sometimes hot-temper, and there’s absolutely no other sign who will keep it all the way real with you like an Aries does, even if it’s something you don’t want to hear. They tell it like it is, as dishonesty goes against their entire m.o.

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown and fiancé Jake Bongiovi, son of musician Jon Bon Jovi, are tying the knot with Brown’s costar, Matthew Modine, officiating.
Modine, known for his roles in Full Metal Jacket and Vision Quest, plays Brown’s father figure in the Netflix hit series Stranger Things. While Modine’s character, known as “Papa” by Eleven or Dr. Martin Brenner, isn’t the kindest in the show, there was nothing but love from Modine when he announced he will officiate the young couple’s marriage.
Modine told Access Daily, “I have one of those licenses to get people married and Millie thought it’d be great, and then Jake said it would be a great idea, so I wrote the wedding vows and they loved what I wrote for them to join hands and to become husband and wife.”

Ron Nyswaner will soon be traveling to New York to reunite with his Writers Guild of America East fellows for a grand occasion. The Oscar-nominated screenwriter, producer and showrunner has been selected to receive the Walter Bernstein Award at the 76th Writers Guild Awards at New York’s Edison Ballroom on April 14.
The honor — named after the late screenwriter who was blacklisted for his political views only to persevere and get his career back on track with such credits as Fail-Safe, Semi-Tough and Yanks — is presented to writers “who have demonstrated with creativity, grace and bravery a willingness to confront social injustice in the face of adversity,” per the organization.
Nyswaner has been doing that for pretty much his entire career. A prime example is Jonathan Demme’s 1993 film Philadelphia. Penned by Nyswaner, the Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington-starrer was the first major Hollywood film to dramatize the real-world...

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things finally went into production at the start of the year and is now three months into its twelve month shooting schedule… but in the midst of filming, Finn Wolfhard is also doing the press rounds to promote the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which is set to reach theatres on March 22nd. An interview with The Hollywood Reporter was part of his press tour, and during that conversation, Wolfhard was asked about the ongoing production of Stranger Things season 5, which will also be the final season of the show. Since this is how it wraps up, it seems fitting that Wolfhard said it will be a return of the dynamics of the first season.

It’s Cape Fear meets ‘The Burbs in director John Schlesinger’s Pacific Heights. Although you might be fooled by Hanz Zimmer’s score, which sounds a lot more like you’re watching Sexy Beetlejuice than a ’90s thriller. This is pure irony, of course, considering the film stars Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton, as a conman who is six feet from the edge and thinking maybe doing murder isn’t so far down.
For those of you arguing silently in your heads that Pacific Heights is not a horror movie, let me go ahead and agree with you. It’s a pure thriller. But imagine this for a moment; imagine somewhere out there is a fresh-off Batman Michael Keaton, sitting in a dark room twirling both a razor blade and a large cockroach through his fingers like some sort of emo fidget spinner, plotting you and your significant other’s demise.

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things finally went into production at the start of the year – and it’s going to continue making its way through production for quite a while longer, as new cast member Linda Hamilton has said that filming is going to take an entire year. So we’re not going to see this season, which is the final season of the show, until sometime in 2025… and star Millie Bobby Brown is looking forward to the premiere date with excitement, because she says the final episodes are going to be “unbelievable.”
Speaking with Screen Rant, Brown said, “There’s not much I can tease, but I know everybody’s super excited. I just think if you’ve loved the seasons before, you trust the Duffers. They’re geniuses, and they’ll bring it like no other.
