After nearly two years, “Industry” is back for a third season. And this time around, the HBO drama is chronicling a financial saga that will pull its antiheroes into the upper echelons of the financial, political and media worlds.
Created by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, “Industry” first premiered in 2020 as a steamy and high-stakes drama about a group of new hires at a top-tier London bank. Not all of those newbies lasted, but Down and Kay have found new ways to dive into this ever-stressful world. This season, they’re diving into the world of ethical investment through a new character played by Kit Harington.
Consider this your guide on who’s who in the cast of “Industry” Season 3.

„Viele wissen einfach nicht, was Produzenten eigentlich machen. Leading US producer Stacy Sher provided an optimistic take on the outlook for the film industry at the Locarno Film Festival today (August 9), insisting that audiences still want to connect with original stories.
Sher, whose producer credits include Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight as well as Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight and Erin Brockovich, took part in an in conversation event the day after being presented with Locarno’s Raimondo Rezzonico Award.

Banel & Adama (Ramata-Toulaye Sy)
A directorial debut programmed into the main Cannes competition is typically viewed with suspicion, if not overlooked altogether. Very rare is that lightning-in-a-bottle moment like the arrival of Son of Saul some years back. Typically, the only conversation these debuts generate is the critical debate as to why they’ve been elevated to the top of the pile when there are far more striking debuts buried deeper within the festival. This often means that accomplished films are overlooked and underappreciated by those on the ground, who may be subconsciously comparing a striking feature to the work of more established names it’s competing against for the Palme d’Or, approaching each debut with a “show me” attitude it...

Plot: Rory and Cobby are reluctant partners: a desperate father and an ex-con thrown together to rob a corrupt politician’s ill-gained earnings. But when the heist goes wrong, the two find themselves engulfed in a whirlwind of chaos, pursued not only by police but also by backward bureaucrats and vengeful crime bosses. Completely out of their depth, they convince Rory’s therapist to join their riotous getaway through the city, where they must put aside their differences and work together to evade capture — or worse.

Quiere algo. Steven Soderbergh directs a supernatural thriller with a unique perspective twist. Here’s the first trailer for Presence, starring Lucy Liu and Julia Fox:
Director Steven Soderbergh has been on a roll recently, having released at least one film a year since 2017 and sometimes two. These have included Logan Lucky, Unsane, High Flying Bird, The Laundromat, Let Them All Talk, No Sudden Move, Kimi and Magic Mike’s Last Dance.
His latest film, Presence, has a unique twist to it: the story’s shot from the perspective of a supernatural entity that stalks an ordinary suburban family. After debuting at Sundance early this year, the movie was picked up for distribution by Neon – the company that recently enjoyed a huge hit with serial killer horror, Longlegs.
According to Deadline, The synopsis reads as follows:
A family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they’re not alone, but rather surrounded by a mysterious entity.

Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming ghost story, Presence, has been acquired by Neon, with a release date set for January 2025. The film promises an immersive experience through its unique storytelling and formidable cast, featuring Lucy Liu and Julia Fox in leading roles. American Immersion in Horror Boasting a script by David Koepp, known for his work on Jurassic Park and Carlito’s Way, Presence unfolds its haunted events through the perspective of its ghosts. This fresh approach to the haunted house genre is described by Meagan Navarro as having plenty of ‘chilling narrative twists’ and Soderbergh’s experimentation with form and technique ensures...

A family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they're not alone. Steven Soderbergh's Presence is their first foray into the horror genre and of course it is anything but conventional. Soderbergh directed from a screenplay by David Koepp and it made waves at the time because the director turned the camera into the supernatural spirit that resides in the home that the family just moved into. Everything you see happening to the family is from the spirit's perspective. Neon was quick to the chase and scooped Presence up and they'll put it in theaters in the new year, on January 17th. A very brief, official teaser was released today. You will find it down below. It features a controlled shot looking...

Whilst Steven Soderbergh is already hard at work on his upcoming Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett starring spy drama Black Bag, we've all been sat here waiting patiently for the prolific filmmaker's most recent film Presence ever since it premiered at Sundance earlier this year. Today, we got a chance to feel Soderbergh's horror-thriller's, er, well, presence for the first time as American distributor Neon released an eerie first teaser trailer for the Lucy Liu starring movie. Check it out below:
Well that teaser and us have something in common — we're both speechless! Following in the vein of recent cryptic teasers for movies like Longlegs, Cuckoo, and The Substance (that the first two of those are also Neon-distributed features is surely no coincidence), this one really doesn't give anything away at all. But even though you may look at this foreboding, forty-second slow pull back from a still suburban...

“We did 11 hours to Munich, two hours to Milan, and then a two-hour drive,” veteran producer Stacey Sher explained this afternoon as she sat weary-eyed in a glass hotel suite at the Locarno Film Festival.
There are no direct flights from Los Angeles to the quaint Swiss town where Sher will be the guest of honor as she receives the festival’s Raimondo Rezzonico Award for career achievement.
Best known as one of the enduring names of American independent cinema, Sher’s credits include 90s classics such as Pulp Fiction (1994), Get Shorty (1995), Matilda (1996), Gattaca (1997), and Out of Sight (1998). She has also produced series like Reno 911! and the Emmy award-winning Mrs. America (2020). In 2021, she produced the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony alongside Steven Soderbergh.

Veteran producer Stacey Sher still has love for critically-maligned “Poolman” directed by Chris Pine.
“It’s a gorgeous film. Chris made the movie he set out to make. He believed in it and I believed in Chris. I still do. He’s a really gifted filmmaker.”
Following its Toronto premiere, Pine’s film became one of the worst-reviewed titles last year, with Variety’s Owen Gleiberman calling it “not only the worst film I saw during the fall festival season but would likely be one of the worst films in any year it came out.”
But Sher believes you have to always support your director.
“Yes – if you believe in that person. Quentin Tarantino may have said that to me a long time ago: ‘The reviews of your movies aren’t written the weekend they come out. They are written 10, 20, 30 years after they come out. It’s all about how they endure.

Steven Soderbergh’s new film, Presence, has received a mysterious teaser trailer ahead of its theatrical release on January 17th, 2025. Watch it below.
Presence is a psychological thriller that centers around the Payne family — portrayed by Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Eddy Maday, and Callina Liang — who unwittingly move into a haunted house sold to them by a real estate agent played by Julia Fox.
The teaser itself doesn’t give much insight into the movie. Instead, it lists some of Soderbergh’s past films, including Traffic, Contagion, and Magic Mike before slowly panning around a suburban home.
Similarly, the logline simply says, “A family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they’re not alone.”
Directed by Soderbergh, Presence was penned by David Koepp, best known for his work on Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, and Spider-Man. West Mulholland also stars. The film’s theatrical release will come one year...

"The new film from Soderbergh..." Neon has unveiled a first look teaser trailer for Steven Soderbergh's new ghost story film Presence. We've been waiting for a release date for this one ever since Sundance earlier this year! It premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and is one of the best horror films from this fest, a fascinating shot-in-one-location thriller about a family that moves into a very nice house. Neon has now confirmed that the film will open in limited theaters in January 2025 early next year. A family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they’re not alone. The rest of the story must not be spoiled - wait until you watch. Presence stars Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Julia Fox, Eddy Maday, and West Mulholland. It's a very slick film with a smooth camera following a ghost that drifts around this house with a not-that-scary...

Earlier this year, JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got to check out the Sundance Film Festival premiere of director Steven Soderbergh and screenwriter David Koepp’s ghost story Presence, and in his 7/10 review (which you can read Here), he described the film as “a supernatural tale that’s light on horror but heavy on heart.” A wider audience will have the chance to see the movie soon after we switch over to our 2025 calendars, as Neon is planning to give Presence a limited theatrical release on January 17th. In anticipation of the release, they have already unveiled a teaser trailer for the movie, and you can check that out in the embed above.
The story of Presence gets rolling when a family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they are not alone. A supernatural force has infiltrated the house, and taken a specific interest in the couple’s daughter.

Steven Soderbergh returned to Sundance in 2024 with indie horror film “Presence.” Now, the feature will be haunting theaters one year later thanks to distributor Neon.
“Presence” centers on a family of four, played by Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Eddy Maday, and Callina Liang, who move into a haunted house after a real estate agent (Julia Fox) convinces them it’s the perfect property. Liang’s character Chloe quickly realizes there is a titular presence that may or may not be sinister, though…

One of the most entertaining films to premiere at Sundance earlier this year, Steven Soderbergh’s formally inventive ghost tale Presence has now reappeared. Ahead of a stop at the Toronto International Film Festival, Neon has now announced a January 17, 2025 theatrical release for the supernatural thriller starring Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Eddy Maday, West Mulholland, and Julia Fox. Ahead of the release, the first teaser trailer and poster have now arrived.

“Presence” will soon be felt.
Steven Soderbergh’s highly anticipated ghost story, written by David Koepp and starring Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan and Julia Fox, will be released theatrically by Neon in January 2025. The studio released a brand-new teaser for the psychological thriller on Wednesday, which you can watch below.
The approach that the teaser takes is nifty — it just lists off some of Soderbergh’s past masterpieces, while a camera slowly moves from outside of a suburban house to inside. That’s it. The implication is clear: “Presence” is an event, as only the second Soderbergh movie to be released theatrically since 2018’s “Unsane” and the other film (“Magic Mike’s Last Dance”) was made for streaming before being changed at the last minute to a theatrical release. That really does make “Presence” special.

As the new poster for his forthcoming movie “Presence” suggests, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh has done it all and then some. The eclectic and prolific filmmaker has pretty much attempted every genre: made popcorn entertainment like the “Ocean’s” and “Magic Mike” trilogies, acclaimed Oscar-winning dramas, comedies, (“The Informant”) compelling and comedic crime dramas, thrillers of all stripes, and low-budget arthouse indies like his career-making debut, “Sex, Lies And Videotape.” And for “Presence,” the filmmaker tackles the sub-genre of the eerie ghost movie, perhaps the closest he’s ever come to making a horror film outside of “Unsane.”

The logline for Steven Soderbergh’s mysterious new film, Presence, reads, “A family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they’re not alone.” But there’s no need for our protagonists—played by Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Eddy Maday, and Callina Liang, with an assist from Julia Fox...

Steven Soderbergh’s ghost story Presence has been acquired by Neon, and the distributor has announced this week that they’ll be releasing the acclaimed film in January 2025.
Check out the official poster art and teaser trailer for Presence below.
Meagan Navarro raved in her review, “Soderbergh reunites with Kimi screenwriter David Koepp (Stir of Echoes) to give an innovative new spin on the quintessential ghost story. Presence frames its haunted events entirely from the perspective of its ghost. From the opening frame until the end credits, audiences see the thrilling story unfold through chilling narrative twists via Soderbergh’s experimentation with form and technique. Using the camera’s gaze as the ghost’s observing eyes isn’t the only trick up Soderbergh and Koepp’s sleeves, ensuring this exciting shakeup of the haunted house keeps you guessing.”

Few filmmakers can claim to have helped shape an entire era of cinema, but the boom in 1990s indie cinema is impossible to imagine without producer Stacey Sher.
“If you say, U.S. independent cinema of the ’90s, whatever film touched your feelings, your emotions and your memory, most probably, it has Stacey involved in it,” says Locarno film festival artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro, on the reason Locarno is honoring Sher with its 2024 Premio Raimondo Rezzonico, or best independent producer, award.
After a six-year mentorship under legendary producers Deborah Hill and Linda Obst, making such films as Chris Columbus’ debut Adventures in Babysitting and Terry Gilliam’s The Fisher King, Sher joined the Danny DeVito and Michael Shamberg’s newly-founded indie shingle Jersey Films, soon becoming a partner. At Jersey, she was instrumental in championing a new generation of directors — Quentin Tarantino, Steven Soderbergh, Andrew Niccol, Ben Stiller — whose films would define a decade.

It’s year two for the Toronto Intl. Film Festival’s Centrepiece programme – the place where we find films from the film festival circuit as old as this year’s Sundance and as fresh as the future film premieres to be found in Locarno and Venice. From the Cannes competition Mohammad Rasoulof‘s The Seed of the Sacred Fig will receive the spotlight and Lou Ye‘s masterwork An Unfinished Film also gets some love.…...

Steven Soderbergh’s spooky ghost story Presence — starring Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan and newcomer Callina Liang — will receive its international premiere as part of the Centerpiece sidebar at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival.
Soderbergh first screened Presence at Sundance earlier this year, some 35 years after the debut of his breakout film, Sex, Lies and Videotape, in Park City. In all, TIFF’s Centerpiece section, previously known as Contemporary World Cinema, unveiled 43 films from 41 countries on Tuesday.
There’s world premieres for Marcelle Lunam’s rom com Addition, starring Teresa Palmer and Joe Dempsie; Erin Lee Carr’s documentary Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara, a Hulu title about the Canadian pop duo falling victim to identity theft; French director Laura Piani’s Jane Austen Wrecked My Life, with a Frederick Wiseman cameo; Sofia Bohdanowicz’s Measures for a Funeral, written by actor Derah Campbell; and Algerian director Merzak Allouache’s Front Row,...

Ocean’s fans received intriguing updates that have reignited speculation about a potential fourth installment in the lucrative heist franchise. George Clooney, who led the trilogy as suave master thief Danny Ocean, revealed to an entertainment publication that there exists a “really good script” that could bring the crew back together for one last job. While not explicitly calling it Ocean’s 14, Clooney likened the premise to 1979’s Going in Style, suggesting the aging gang would reassemble for one more score.
His co-star and on-screen partner-in-crime Matt Damon, who played talented pickpocket Linus Caldwell, says he’s open to returning but emphasized the logistical challenges. “If we can get everyone back together and find the right story, I’m definitely interested,” Damon told an outlet while promoting his latest project. However, Brad Pitt, another pivotal member of Ocean’s smooth criminal ensemble, has expressed reluctance in the past about rebooting his role.

Steven Soderbergh's 2002 film "Solaris," based on the 1961 novel by Stanislav Lem, was an interesting experiment as sci-fi blockbusters go. Starring George Clooney and made for a not-immodest budget of $47 million, "Solaris" tells the tale of an astronaut Dr. Kelvin (Clooney), who is sent to a distant space station to investigate the curious psychic properties a nearby planet seems to emanate. The space station is nearly uninhabited, as the crew have almost all taken their own lives. Dr. Kelvin soon finds that the nearby planet Solaris has the ability to reach into a person's mind and physically manifest memories. Kelvin's dead wife Rheya (Natasha McElhone) appears to him, much to his consternation. Because the real Rheya took her own life, the artificial Rheya begins sharing the same bleak thoughts.
"Solaris" is emotionally intense and filmed in a contemplative, psychedelic fashion. Lem's novel had previously been adapted to film in 1972 by Andrei Tarkovsky,...

For nearly two decades, a film adaptation of the hit 1960s spy series "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." seemed perpetually on the brink of getting made. Warner Bros. nearly enticed Quentin Tarantino to take it on in the mid-1990s as his hotly anticipated follow-up to "Pulp Fiction," but he chose to make "Jackie Brown" instead. Directors like Matthew Vaughn and David Dobkin circled the project. A-listers Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Christian Bale and Ryan Reynolds (among many others) eyed the film at one point or another. Steven Soderbergh came very close to helming a version starring George Clooney as Napoleon Solo (the role originated by Robert Vaughn), but he backed out over budget issues. The film was a go in 2013 with Guy Ritchie directing Tom Cruise and Armie Hammer as, respectively, Solo and Illya Kuryakin (played by David McCallum on the show), but Cruise stuck with Ethan Hunt and the "Mission: Impossible" franchise.

The Ocean’s Eleven veterans star in this Boston-set caper about a broke ex-marine and a moody ex-con hired to rob the mayor’s victory party
Matt Damon and Casey Affleck – grizzled veterans of Steven Soderbergh’s classic caper Ocean’s Eleven from back in 2001 – now come together as stars and co-producers of an expensive but moderate Boston-set heist comedy , co-written by Affleck and directed by Doug Liman. Damon is Rory, a broke ex-marine whose US army therapist Dr Rivera, played by Hong Chau, is treating him for depression and suicidal ideation; he desperately needs cash to pay outstanding alimony and see his son. Affleck is Cobby, a moody ex-con and bar manager who has to stay sober as a condition of parole and so gets neighbourhood kids to blow into the alcohol-test device he has to carry around.

Don't look now, but Matt Damon has become one of cinema's most exciting screen presences over the last decade or so. Having taken his leading-man looks and turned into a character actor's dream, he's figured out how to enjoy the best of both worlds. If Christopher Nolan, Steven Soderbergh, Ethan Coen, or any other prolific filmmaker has a buzzy, high-concept thriller in the works, you can almost set your watch based on Damon popping up in a brief supporting role or even a cameo late in the game -- and, more often than not, it's as a scumbag villain meant to reinforce each film's themes. It takes a serious absence of ego to embrace this (relatively) unsexy phase of one's career, in which such thankless work might only ever win the affections of the Film Twitter crowd, dad-movie enthusiasts, and not much else. But it's a rare talent that can...

It’s fair to assume that Doug Liman and Matt Damon had already reunited after the substantial success of their 2002 franchise starter, The Bourne Identity, but Apple TV+’s heist comedy, The Instigators, is somehow their first go-round in two-plus decades.
The director and star had already made names for themselves prior to The Bourne Identity, but their adaptation of Robert Ludlum’s spy novel took their careers to a whole new level. And, from the moment they started shooting Bourne in October 2000, the duo had to overcome a bevy of challenges until they finally concluded their last-minute reshoots in 2002. This trial by fire forged a lifelong bond between the two, making their lack of a timely reunion all the more surprising.

Fresh from wrapping up his MCU Spider-Man trilogy to thunderous effect in No Way Home, filmmaker Jon Watts has ploughed his success into two major new projects. Before too long, we’ll see the Star Wars series he’s helped devise, the kids-lost-in-space adventure series Skeleton Crew. But away from the franchise world, Watts has used his cache to make an original crime movie – with two of Hollywood’s biggest A-listers starring side by side. Get ready for Wolfs, in which two lone-wolf crime scene fixers realise they’ve both been hired to take on the same clean-up job. What happens, then, when Jack (aka George Clooney) and Nick (aka Brad Pitt) are forced to work in close proximity, while finding themselves increasingly out of their depth?
That’s the question that drove Watts to write his screenplay, from which he also directs. “I just wanted to know what it...

All the way back in 2006, Dibakar Banerjee educated the masses about the practice of land scams through Khosla ka Ghosla. It was a rather simple story where a middle-class man bought a plot of land and then found out that it had been forcefully taken from him by a corrupt businessman, thereby forcing this middle-class man to shell out more money to buy back the land that he had purchased in the first place. Although the movie had a comedic tone, it exposed the unlawful activities happening in the country’s capital and how they were being facilitated by the corrupt authorities. And while the topic was rarely addressed on the big screen after that, in real life, land scams increased exponentially. Now, it has been so normalized that the government can just deem the land you’re living on to be illegal, throw you out, hand it over to a huge real estate company,...

11 years on from very publicly — and very prematurely — announcing his retirement, prolific American auteur Steven Soderbergh continues to be one of the biggest and busiest filmmaker in the business. And whilst the Ocean's movie mastermind's most recent effort, horror-thriller Presence, has yet to officially hit cinemas following its Sundance premiere earlier this year, that hasn't stopped ol' Soderbergh from setting a release date for his next film. Per Deadline's reporting, Soderbergh's Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender starring spy drama Black Bag — which we first found out about back in January — is set to hit cinemas on 14 March, 2025.
Written by Soderbergh's Kimi collaborator and Jurassic Park screenwriting legend David Koepp, precious little is known about Black Bag's plot as of yet — although we'd confidently hazard a guess that the title's not just Soderbergh reminding himself which week's bins to put out. What we do know however is that the...

Academy Award® winner Brendan Fraser has been cast in ‘Pressure,’ joining the recently announced Andrew Scott in the role of Britain’s chief meteorological officer James Stagg.
Fraser takes on the role of Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower.
In the seventy-two hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element – the British weather. Britain’s chief meteorological officer James Stagg (Andrew Scott) is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on.
With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower (Brendan Fraser).

Ocean’s Eleven is the best heist film ever made. Let me explain-
Say you’re fresh out of the slammer, you need money, and the only job prospects you have involve running back to the very lifestyle that got you locked up to begin with. Oh, and did I mention your wife also ran off with a rich casino owner? Yeah…Instant conflict anyone? Now, in a situation like this, there’s only one thing you can do. Round up the old crew for a job that promises to be properly epic, high stakes (literally) and of course perfectly stupid enough to excite your friends. So, if you’re looking to dive into the vault of cinematic treasures that is Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s 11, or as I call it, the greatest heist movie ever made- then let’s get into it.
Ocean’s Eleven is the 2001 remake of the Rat-Pack-led 60s original.
