Will Forte is a comedy superstar known for a variety of roles within the entertainment industry, but comedy and writing were not always his career path. Following in his father’s footsteps, he graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, and ultimately became a financial broker. Growing up, Will Forte had always shown interest in the comedy world and has referenced comedians such as Peter Sellers, David Letterman, and Steve Martin as some of his comedy idols. However, he had shown interest in comedy. Will Forte never really planned on making it into a career for himself until he convinced himself that being a financial broker was not all life could offer him. While working as a financial broker, Will Forte co-wrote a feature-length script and quickly realized that he had a passion for writing. While attending the University of California, people had encouraged Will Forte to take on comedy.

Matt Damon and Casey Affleck have both won Oscars for Massachusetts-set movies; Damon for writing “Good Will Hunting” with Casey’s brother Ben, and Casey for acting in the tragic drama “Manchester by the Sea.” Damon and the Afflecks’ latest Boston-set team-up, heist comedy “The Instigators,” is unlikely to win them any additional gold, but it’s a fun ride nevertheless.
Damon — reuniting with his “Bourne Identity” director Doug Liman — stars as Rory, a financially strapped middle-aged man who decides to give heisting a shot. He teams up with Cobby for some scores, and then gets his therapist Donna (Academy Award nominee Hong Chau) involved against her will. How does that make her feel? Not good! The cast also includes heavy hitters like Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, and Rob Gronkowski. Yes, this movie is so Boston that Gronk is in it. “The Instigators” is now...

"Deadpool & Wolverine" not only features a bunch of Deadpool variants making up the infamous Deadpool Corps. from Marvel Comics, it also reveals a bunch of Wolverine variants from across the multiverse. One of them is comically short, both in accuracy when compared to the comics and visually hilarious, while another has been given quite the grandiose crucifixion on a massive X in the middle of a pile of blood-red skulls. But one of them is a totally ripped, gruff, and perfectly grumpy Wolverine played by none other than "Man of Steel" star Henry Cavill.
The introduction of this version of Wolverine not only takes a stab at DC Comics letting their Big Blue Boy Scout go without much of a celebrated send-off, but it shows that Cavill was basically in the wrong comic book universe this whole time. While it's not likely that we'll see Cavill pick up the...

"Saturday Night Live" is, oddly enough, usually a pretty key part of any American election cycle. Name a president and it's easy to picture the person who played them on the long-running NBC sketch show. Say George W. Bush and it's probably just as easy to envision Will Ferrell's take on the former president as it is the man himself. As such, all eyes are now on who will be cast to play Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on "SNL" for its forthcoming 50th season, as he was recently selected to be the running mate for Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee to become our next Potus. For now, though, at least one favorite for the role has taken his hat out of the ring.
Legendary comedian Steve Martin, who has a long history with "SNL," has politely declined an offer from Lorne Michaels to portray Walz on the show. The...

“It’s gonna be different now. They’ll never lie to us again.”
It seems odd to start at the ending of “Dick,” the 1999 Watergate satire starring Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams and now celebrating its 25th anniversary. But those final lines, spoken by Dunst’s Betsy to Williams’ Arlene, the teen girl duo whom the movie posits as the real political masterminds behind the Deep Throat informant that helped bring down Richard “Dick” Nixon, hit different when rewatching “Dick” in the current political climate.
“It always got a knowing laugh,” said director Andrew Fleming, speaking to IndieWire during the same week of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life and President Joe Biden announcing he was not seeking reelection, instead endorsing his Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.
“We knew at the time that that was meant to be a joke,” said screenwriter Sheryl Longin, who co-wrote the script with Fleming.

Punkie Johnson’s departure from Saturday Night Live this week is the latest evidence that, more often than not, stand-up comics have a hard time making the transition to sketch comedy. Bill Murray called it. “Nowadays there’s probably more stand-ups that end up on the show, sort of more individual guys, than there used to be,” he says in SNL oral history Live From New York. “They’re individually good, but they maybe don’t have that particular skill or training or as much experience in that area.”
“That area” is sketch comedy. That’s why so many of the show’s all-time great cast members — John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Kristin Wiig, Kenan Thompson and Bill Hader, to name a few — came to the show from a sketch comedy background, often trained at Second City or the Groundlings. Vince Vaughn is convinced studios want to “overthink” comedies nowadays, especially ones without an IP to fall back on.
The actor — who has appeared in iconic original films such as “Wedding Crashers,” “Old School,” and “Swingers” — explained why there is a lack of modern R-rated comedies in theaters.
“[Studios] just overthink it,” Vaughn said during First We Feast’s “Hot Ones” series. “And it’s like, it’s crazy, you get these rules, like, if you did geometry, and you said 87 degrees was a right angle, then all your answers are messed up, instead of 90 degrees. So there became some idea or concept, like, they would say something like, ‘You have to have an IP.'”
He continued, “The people in charge don’t want to get fired more so than they’re looking to do something great, so they want to kind of follow a set of rules that somehow get set in stone,...

Vince Vaughn feels Hollywood executives “overthink it” when it comes to developing the types of R-rated comedies the actor is famously known for.
The Curb Your Enthusiasm actor, who rose to fame in the late ’90s and early 2000s with his hard R-rated movies such as Wedding Crashers, Old School and Swingers, recently shared on Hot Ones his thoughts on those films not being made in this day and age.

For the first few decades of Saturday Night Live, breaking out on the show was a ticket to movie stardom for comics like John Belushi, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers and Will Ferrell. In the 2000s, the path led to Emmy Award-winning comedies for Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Andy Samberg. In recent years, however, the big reward for a long run on SNL seems to be a job as a game show host.

It's happening: Maya Rudolph, erstwhile queen of late night comedy, is returning to "Saturday Night Live" to play none other than Vice President (and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee) Kamala Harris. The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, which notes that Rudolph has been temporarily freed up as production on her Apple TV+ comedy series "Loot," scheduled for August, has been delayed.
This isn't actually the first time the comedic actor, who was on the show's main cast from 2000 to 2007, has embodied the highly meme-able politician. Rudolph most recently hosted the show in March 2021, but also played Harris in seven other appearances starting in season 45. Of course, if Harris gets elected as President in November, "Saturday Night Live" will have to either hire Rudolph for more regular appearances or opt to have a current cast member take over the role. If the latter happens, it won't be the first time. Everyone...

Maya Rudolph and “Saturday Night Live” are reuniting once more. The former cast member will reprise her role as current vice president and 2024 presidential hopeful Kamala Harris, TheWrap has learned.
Rudolph will play the politician through the 2024 presidential election, and this is far from the first time she has portrayed Harris. She first played the VP in 2019 during the Season 45 premiere of the NBC comedy staple and has played Harris nine times so far. “Harold and the Purple Crayon” is a picture book — now a movie — about the importance of imagination. So let’s try to imagine something together, shall we? Let’s all imagine a film starring Zooey Deschanel as an employee of a great big store who meets a childlike fantasy character who left home and now enters the real world in search of his father, who messes up the store she works at but ultimately teaches her a valuable lesson about believing in magic.
Have you got that film in your head? Does it look exactly like the movie “Elf,” that Christmas classic that came out over 20 years ago? Well, now imagine that it’s very purple, not very funny, and it stars Zachary Levi instead of Will Ferrell. “Harold and the Purple Crayon” claims to be about the power of the creative spirit but it’s cobbled together from so many similar films —“Enchanted,...

Despicable Me 4 Box Office (Worldwide): Crosses $350 Million Mark Overseas( Photo Credit – YouTube )

The makers maintained the franchise’s tradition of releasing the movie on the Fourth of July week and the Minions and Gru are always loved by the fans. Hence, it is the highest-grossing animated film franchise ever and has crossed the $5 billion mark. In this fourth installment, Will Ferrell and Sofia Vergara have joined the cast as the main antagonist and his girlfriend, respectively. Music-centered biopics are one of the hottest commodities in Cinema today. From the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic to the retellings of the Whitney Houston and Elvis stories, it feels as if you’re a figure in music, you will get a biopic onscreen. However, there is an upcoming biopic about one of the biggest musicians out there. That is a little more unconventional. Pharrell Williams’ biopic, ‘Piece by Piece’, had a trailer before the new ‘Despicable Me’ movie. While many people were excited to see a Pharrell Williams biopic, many were confused as a biopic does not portray the Pharrell Williams story with actors. Rather, ‘Piece by Piece’ is a Lego movie, meaning that the Pharrell Williams story will be told with animated Lego characters. Fourteen years ago, ‘Despicable Me’ premiered in theatres, winning the hearts of children and adults alike. Fast forward fourteen years, and not only has there been a ‘Despicable Me’ sequel, but two spin-off films that focus on the minions, and a third and fourth film has been added to Gru’s story. With all of the minion mania feeling so far away, audiences are beginning to question the integrity of the fourth film… was ‘Despicable Me 4’ really needed? Zooey Deschanel says she remembers the late actor and comedian Bob Newhart as “kind and generous” from her time working with him on “Elf.” Newhart died July 18, and the pair worked on the 2003 Christmas movie alongside Will Ferrell and James Caan.
“I always say the best actors are very generous people,” Deschanel told Variety on the purple carpet at Sunday’s premiere of “Harold and the Purple Crayon” at The Culver Theater in Culver City. “He was really such a kind and generous man and so funny, but not wrapped up in himself or anything. He was just kind, and sweet and wonderful to work with.”
Although Ferrell recently said Caan didn’t enjoy his performance as Buddy the Elf on set until he saw the final cut of the film and called him “not funny,” Deschanel said she “probably wasn’t there for that part,” as they usually weren...

Who do you think would die first in a four-way battle royale between Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler? Who do you think has had the least inspiring film career between those four? Are both answers the same?
Look, anyone who has ever written and starred in a mid-budget comedy produced by a major studio is doing pretty okay from a career standpoint, so it would be ludicrous to suggest that any of the men mentioned above is somehow a failure, despite what their biggest haters may say. But speaking of haters, only one of those four funnymen has a large and devoted anti-stan movement on Twitter that relishes in taking every opportunity to snarkily reply to a picture of him lighting a giant fake bong at a Hollywood Bowl show and tell him, “We get it man.”

The late Bob Newhart began his comedy career, weirdly enough, while working a mind-numbing job as a copywriter in 1958. The job was so dull that Newhart and a co-worker would regularly call each other's desks and play-act comedic scenarios just to keep their minds occupied. They felt their conversations were funny enough to record, and submitted them to local radio stations. When his co-worker quit and moved away, Newhart recorded similar comedic phone conversations, made all the funnier that one could only hear his end of them. That became Newhart's shtick for many years, and he released his first comedy record, "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart," in 1960.
That led to a stint on "The Ed Sullivan Show," and, shortly thereafter, the launch of 1961's "The Bob Newhart Show". Newhart was a TV legend, a comedy icon, and a consummate performer. His death marks a sad day for the world.

The comedic legend Bob Newhart has died at 94. You might know him from famous sitcoms like The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart. Or, if you’re much younger, he’s Papa Elf.
Newhart was 73 when he starred as Will Ferrell’s adoptive father in 2003’s Elf. With those adorable mustard yellow tights and that kelly green suit and hat, it’s bizarre that younger generations first became acquainted with Newhart when he was dressed as a Keebler elf, nearly getting squished when Buddy adoringly sat on his lap. Bob Newhart was the recording industry’s first comedy superstar. Newhart, who passed away today at the age of 94, took home the Grammy for Record of the Year in 1961, beating out lightweights like Frank Sinatra and Harry Belafonte. He also took home 1961’s Comedy Album of the Year for his second album, recorded hastily after his first, The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, occupied the #1 spot on the Billboard charts for 17 of 18 weeks that summer and fall.
My parents owned both of those albums, and I wore them out as I studied their uproarious rhythms. Because Newhart’s comic persona was so mild-mannered and unassuming, it’s easy to forget what an out-of-the-box maverick he was in his heyday. Newhart didn’t spew stale one-liners like Catskills comics of a previous generation—instead, he created elaborate, one-sided conversations (often with a pantomimed phone in hand) with dead Presidents, craven advertising executives,...
