Judith Belushi Pisano passed away on Friday night at the age of 73, survived by four children and six grandchildren, as well as three siblings, according to The Martha’s Vineyard Times. For comedy fans, Belushi Pisano is, of course, most famous for being the widow of John Belushi, her high school sweetheart, who died in 1982.
Belushi Pisano had a lot of engagement with her late husband’s legacy in the years following his death, penning multiple books on the subject, and even participating in the organization of a Blues Brothers-themed convention in the historic Old Joliet Prison. Not surprisingly, a whole lot of Crystal Head vodka was served.
Less well-known is the fact that Belushi Pisano briefly worked behind-the-scenes at Saturday Night Live. Very briefly, that is. Yeah, even the wife of one of the show’s most legendary cast members hated her experience writing for the long-running sketch show.

Even though Chevy Chase says he was still friends with John Belushi until the end, the two comics had several famous bumps in the road while performing on Saturday Night Live. Appearing on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast a few years ago, Chase explained how Belushi even stole drugs from him back before either of them was cast on the iconic show.
“Back then, the big drug was cocaine. And obviously, John turned out to be a cokehead,” Chase chuckled, a disturbing moment of levity considering 1) the cause of Belushi’s death, and 2) the fact that Chase was a bit of a cokehead himself. Case in point: “I had a little jar of cocaine, with a little spoon that hung from it.”
Sure, some people even wore the spoons around their necks like a cross, added Maher, apropos of nothing other than confirming he was hip to the scene,...

Dan Aykroyd is remembering Carrie Fisher almost a month after her death. In an essay for the upcoming farewell issue of Empire magazine, the actor opens up about his ex-fiancée and the ups and downs of their romance. "I grew up as a simple Catholic kid from a government family in Hull, Quebec, so you can imagine how much of a privilege and honor it was for me to have known this one-off, broke-the-mould woman as a great friend," he writes. He recalls meeting her on the set of Saturday Night Live and how they fell in love while filming Blues Brothers in 1980 before moving in together. Their relationship quickly became serious as they "obtained blood tests for compatibility from an East Indian female doctor" before getting engaged. "Contemplating marriage, I gave Carrie a sapphire ring and subsequently in the romance she gave me a Donald Roller Wilson oil painting...

The company that produces such cartoons as Bob’s Burgers and The Awesomes will be creating the show alongside Dan Aykroyd, Judy Belushi (John Belushi’s widow) and writer/producer Anne Beatts. In a statement, Aykroyd said, ”The show will be the Blues Brothers living in America and utilizing all new technology to make and promote their own records, seek out and record new artists and avoid law enforcement – and all while fighting for truth, justice and a better breakfast sandwich.” Producers promise that the series will feature no shortage of music, both R&B classics as well as new performances made just for the show. This is not the first attempt at a cartoon reboot for the R&B band.

Chicago – Before the days of 24/7 internet access to every form of entertainment that exists, there were eras of radical performance expression that changed the landscape of attitudes toward everything – think of The Beatles evolving music and also changing social culture. The roots of another evolution, especially in comedy, began with a modest humor magazine that brought together the right mix of anarchists and misfits. What they did would influence comedy for years afterward, and their story is told in “Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of National Lampoon,” directed by Douglas Tirola.
“National Lampoon” Magazine was a national publication founded in 1970, that was spawned from the Harvard Lampoon, and brought together a team of 1960s-influenced comic radicals that changed the way humor was conveyed. No sacred cows existed on their pages, and the magazine also broke out into signature comedy records, stage performances and radio shows. This cottage industry featured...

There's a double dose of Ellen Page news today, which we'll kick off with word that she's in talks to play Judith Jacklin opposite Emile Hirsch as John Belushi in the biopic of the former Saturday Night Live man, his excessive life and tragically early death.A film about Belushi's life has been in the works for years, passing through different writers, directors and potential stars before ending up (we assume) with The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty writer Steve Conrad re-working the script and calling the shots and Hirsch making a deal to play the Animal House/Blues Brothers star.Page is negotiating to take on Jacklin, who was Belushi's girlfriend from high school, married him and ended up devastated by his death. The actress will have a prime source for any research questions: Jacklin, now known as Judy Belushi-Pisano, is a producer on the film alongside Belushi's...

Ellen Page is reportedly in talks to join the upcoming John Belushi biopic.
The actress is being lined up to star opposite Emile Hirsch as the late Saturday Night Live star's widow Judy Belushi Pisano, according to The Wrap.
John and Judy were high school sweethearts, whose relationship grew more turbulent as the comedian found success in Hollywood and developed a drug problem.
Director Steve Conrad is directing the movie from his own script, which is based on Judy Belushi Pisano and Tanner Colby's book Belushi.
John's comedic partner Dan Aykroyd is executive producing the movie, and is expected to be played by Miles Teller.
Hirsch said late last year that he is determined for the film to do Belushi's legacy "justice".

When Juno became a breakthrough hit in late 2007, Ellen Page seemed to have all the qualities of a true Hollywood star. However, despite a few high-profile roles here and there, most recently in 2013′s The East, the actress has kept relatively quiet. Now, Page is looking to get back in the spotlight as she’s signed on to play Judy Belushi Pisano, the wife of the late John Belushi, in an upcoming untitled biopic that stars Emile Hirsch as the beloved comic actor.
The Promotion‘s Steve Conrad is on board to write and direct while Pisano will help produce as well as provide the source material for the script, which comes in the form of a biography she wrote entitled “Belushi.” The film will explore the actor’s “rise to fame in the late ’70s, from Saturday Night Live to his starring turns in Animal House and The Blues Brothers.

Playing an icon must be difficult for any actor, but how much more difficult would it be if that icon is still alive? That’s the challenge facing Miles Teller, who is now in talks to play Saturday Night Live funnyman Dan Aykroyd in the upcoming John Belushi biopic.
Emile Hirsch revealed Teller’s potential involvement in the Belushi biopic during a party for the Creative Coalition on Saturday, which Teller also attended. For those who don’t know, Hirsch has long been attached to play the role of John Belushi in the film, which is based on the biography Belushi (by the comedian’s widow Judith Belushi Pisano). Belushi and Aykroyd were longtime friends and comedic collaborators, best known for their stint on the first (and best) seasons of Saturday Night Live, as well as their performances as Jake and Elwood Blues of The Blues Brothers fame.

Chicago – She wrote a book called “Samurai Widow,” and was married to John Belushi from 1976 to his death in 1982. She is Judy Belushi, and she will be part of a cast reunion of the classic film “Animal House,” to be presented at the theaters Hollywood Palms in Naperville (Illinois) and Hollywood Blvd in Woodridge, on November 15th-17th, 2013.
Judy Belushi was with John before the beginning of his superstardom, having met him in high school at Wheaton, Illinois, where they both grew up. She followed him through his early years at The Second City in Chicago in 1971, and moved to New York City in 1973 when Belushi got a job with “The National Lampoon Radio Hour.” Many of his radio colleagues became original cast members with Belushi on a new late night TV show in 1975, “Saturday Night Live.” From there, John Belushi became a sensation with the 1978 release of “Animal House...

John Belushi was a comedy comet. There was no one else like him, and his bright flight was amazing to behold — until it tragically flamed out in 1982 when he died of a drug overdose. A dozen filmmakers could make a dozen different interesting movies about his life and times, especially since he — more than probably any other Saturday Night Live alum — helped define what that now-iconic show would be. In 1989, Michael Chiklis starred as Belushi in Wired, a poorly received effort that featured Belushi’s ghost reflecting on his life to biographer Bob Woodward. The energetic comedian deserved better.

He’s extremely selective about the jobs that he takes, and it seems Steve Conrad’s untitled biopic about John Belushi has caught the attention of Emile Hirsch.
The “Speed Racer” stud has been cast in the lead role and will report for duty when the project begins filming in New York City this spring.
Conrad is also serving as the writer of the film, as he adapted the script from John’s widow Judy Belushi Pisano’s biography “Belushi,” published in 2005.
Executive produced by Dan Akroyd, the flick will focus on John Belushi’s career highlights like “Animal House,” “The Blues Brothers,” and “Saturday Night Live.” He passed away in 1982 after overdosing on heroin and cocaine at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.

Emile Hirsch has landed the role of comedian John Belushi in an untitled biopic to be directed by Steve Conrad (screenwriter of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"). Conrad is directing from his own script, based on the 2005 biography of Belushi by Judy Belushi Pisano and Tanner Colby. The film will follow the height of Belushi's career as an outsized comedic screen presence on the first iteration of Saturday Night Live and in movies, when he starred in "The Blues Brothers," and "Animal House." It also looks at his early death at age 33 to an overdose of cocaine and heroin at La's Chateau Marmont hotel. (Hirsch will be 29 when filming gets underway.) Hirsch, who's coming up in Peter Berg's army action drama "Lone Survivor" opposite Mark Wahlberg, is best known for his turns in Sean Penn's "Into the Wild" and starring alongside Penn in Gus Van Sant's "Milk.

Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild, Girl Next Door) is set to play John Belushi in Steve Conrad’s untitled biopic about the late actor [via Variety]. That is surprising news I must say; I’m a big fan of Hirsch and never understood why he wasn’t a bigger name yet. A number of actors were in the mix as recently as last week, and it looks like Hirsch won them over.
Adapted from the Judith Belushi Pisano and Tanner Colby book, “Belushi,” Conrad will direct from his own script. It will explore the high points of Belushi’s career including The Blues Brothers, Animal House, and Saturday Night Live, up to his death at age 33 from an overdose. Conrad’s next written flick, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, will be seen in theaters this Christmas, and Hirsch will appear in the TV mini-series, Bonnie and Clyde beginning December 8th on A&E.

Emile Hirsch has landed the role of John Belushi. The 28-year-old actor will portray the late funnyman in director Steve Conrad's upcoming untitled biopic, EW reports. Conrad's flick is being adapted from a book written by Belushi's widow Judith Belushi Pisano and Tanner Colby. The biopic is scheduled to start shooting in spring of 2014. The Hirsch casting news comes 31 years after Belushi passed away. The famed SNL comedian and Blues Brothers actor died in March 1982 at age 33 from a drug overdose while staying at West Hollywood hotel Chateau Marmont. Emile Hirsch has signed on to play John Belushi in an as-yet-untitled biopic, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will reportedly take place during the height of the comedian's fame, focusing on his stint on Saturday Night Live and his roles in Animal House and The Blues Brothers, through his death of a drug overdose at age 33 in 1982. It will be the second Belushi biopic, following Wired, in 1989.

After much speculation as to who would take on the responsibility of portraying the storied comedian, Film 360 announced Monday that Emile Hirsch, 28, has signed on to play John Belushi in director Steve Conrad’s still-untitled biopic.
The long-gestating biopic only recently regained traction when Conrad, who wrote The Pursuit of Happyness, The Weather Man, and Ben Stiller’s upcoming The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, signed on to both write and direct. The Hangover’s Todd Phillips was originally slated to direct. Reports surfaced last week that he’d held meetings with Hirsch and Workaholics lead Adam DeVine about taking on the role.

Emile Hirsch signed to star in a film about the short but eventful life of John Belushi. The film’s scripted and directed by Steve Conrad, based on the Judith Belushi Pisano and Tanner Colby book Belushi. Hirsch is not an obvious choice to play the comic actor who soared to fame in Animal House, the original Saturday Night Live cast and films like Blues Brothers before dying at age 33 in 1982 at the Chateau Marmont Hotel to become a cautionary tale of excess. The film, which shoots next spring in New York, is the first feature on Belushi’s life and death since 1989′s Wired. That film starred Michael Chiklis and was based on the Bob Woodward book. It was not embraced by Belushi’s widow, who’s part of the new version. Maybe it was too soon, or just too bracing a look at a brilliant comic’s demise.

She will serve as an executive producer on the project, as Judith Belushi Pisano (she's since remarried) with the book informing the screenplay. Back in August 2010, comedy fans around the world were treated to the news that Todd Phillips would be producing a John Belushi biopic, written by Steven Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness). That such heavyweights would be collaborating on a film about a beloved comic legend was, to say the least, very exciting.
Even more exciting, was confirmation that the book would be based on Belushi – the second novel about the late star to be written (or at least co-written) by his widow, Judith Belushi Pisano. Generally acknowledged as being the most honest of books about Belushi, it benefits from being a source material supported by the people that played a part in his life, as opposed to the ill-received 1989 film adaptation of Bob Woodward’s Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi, starring Michael Chiklis.
However, this project soon fell quiet, and speculation suggested problems in the...

Dan Aykroyd is developing a Blues Brothers animated series. The actor has teamed with Judy Belushi - widow of his former co-star John Belushi - to form Blues Brothers Approved Ventures LLC, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A broadway musical, a branded radio network, books and more are planned, in the collaboration between Aykroyd, Belushi and Panacea Entertainment. The Blues Brothers began life in a 1978 episode of Saturday Night Live, before characters Jake (Belushi) and Elwood (Aykroyd) were spun off into a hit 1980 film.
