Former president Donald Trump is trying to downplay his presidential opponents’ rally crowd sizes, falsely claiming that “nobody was there” at a Detroit event hosted by Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz.
Trump, who is obsessed with the size of his own crowds and frequently exaggerates attendance numbers, is “unhappy” with the number of people who have been attending Harris and Walz’s campaign events, as Rolling Stone reported last week.
“Has anyone noticed that Kamala Cheated at the airport?” Trump ranted Sunday on Truth Social.

J.D. Vance came to Trump’s defense when confronted with the fact that the presidential candidate had dinner in 2022 with white supremacist Nick Fuentes, who recently attacked Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, a child of Indian immigrants. Fuentes said last month he doesn’t expect Vance — “the guy who has an Indian wife” — to “support White identity.”
“What kind of a man marries somebody named Usha?” Fuentes, who has often praised Hitler, said. “Clearly, he doesn’t value his racial identity, his heritage.”

In a hazy, smoke-filled theater, dozens of red strings dangle from the ceiling. They’re connected to the backs and hands of reporters, all slumped over in their seats, notebooks in hand. There’s a man in the spotlight, with what appears to be a marionette doll over his knee and another journalist, this one conspiratorially close on his other shoulder. As a chorus begins to sing, the strings move, revealing the crowd of press to be puppets, voices orchestrated toward one common belief: “Oh yes, they both reached for the gun.

It’s Day 20 of the Kamala Era but Trump World remains in the Before Times. Sure, the Let’s Go Brandon merch is being sold at a discount, but otherwise the mood in the non-swing state of Montana is very July 2024. Or July 2016. The ex-president is on his way for a rally tonight and the sound system in the parking lot of Bozeman’s Brick Breeden Fieldhouse bleats out the same seven songs, including “Memory” from Cats. The roughly 8,000 supporters who began queuing at dawn will hear the song approximately...

In his first sit down interview since stepping aside in the 2024 presidential race, President Joe Biden said that he concluded that staying in the contest would prove to be a “real distraction,” citing the comments of Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill who feared he would drag down other candidates.
Speaking to Robert Costa for an interview for CBS Sunday Morning, Biden said that the presidential race “would have been down the wire, but what happened was a number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was going to hurt them in the races, and I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic you’d be interviewing me about. ‘Why did Nancy Pelosi say…? Why did someone?’ And I thought it’d be a real distraction.”
Biden added that when he ran in 2020, “I thought of myself as being a transition president.

The upcoming Netflix drama “Kaos” is an old tale with a distinctly modern spin. Jeff Goldblum stars as Zeus, king of the gods, but in this telling he’s an aging, sexually incontinent, increasingly paranoid figure — Logan Roy springs to mind — trying to keep his grip on his family and his empire.
“Why do we come back to myths?” says creator Charlie Covell, musing on the source material of the series, which drops on Aug. 29. “They’re timeless; the issues are eternal.” Indeed, the story has been a long time in the making for Covell, who sees the themes of “power, abuse of power, love, death, family and dysfunctional family” as continually relevant — and eternally fascinating — to audiences.

Donald Trump’s campaign has been hit with yet another artist not wanting their music being used by the candidate. This time, Celine Dion’s management and record label called out the GOP presidential nominee’s campaign for its “unauthorized usage” of “My Heart Will Go On,” one of her signature hits from 1997’s Titanic.
On Friday, Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Bozeman, Montana featured a video of Dion performing the theme song for the film.
“And really, That song?” a statement shared on Dion’s social media reads.

Celine Dion has denounced the use of her song “My Heart Will Go On” by Donald Trump during a president campaign rally in Montana on Friday night.
“In no way is this use authorized and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use,” noted a statement released on Saturday.
Dion concluded her statement by questioning the wisdom of the song choice, given that it famously soundtracks James Cameron’s Titanic, a movie about a sinking ship. “…And really, That song?” she remarked. Perhaps Trump is resigned to his fate in a head-to-head matchup against Kamala Harris.
Last month, Dion her live comeback, performing Edith Piaf’s “L’Hymne à l’amour” at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The singer has faced a series of health challenges in recent years due to her ongoing battle with stiff-person syndrome.

Footage from a video of Celine Dion performing her Oscar-winning song from Titanic at last night’s Donald Trump-J.D. Vance rally has gone viral. It also got the attention of the Grammy-winning singer’s management team and record label Sony Music Entertainment Canada, which issued a statement Saturday about “the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’” at a Donald Trump / Jd Vance campaign rally in Montana.”
They made it clear that “in no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use.”
The team also could not resist to point out the irony of using a song from a movie about one of the biggest disasters in naval history at a campaign rally.

Celine Dion is hilariously throwing shade at Donald Trump and Jd Vance for using her song “My Heart Will Go On” at their rally in Montana.
The song was played during the rally on Friday (August 9) in Bozeman, Montana and a video of Celine performing the song was shown on a screen at the event.
The song was famously written for the movie Titanic, a movie about a sinking ship. Social media users have been mocking Trump for the ironic use of the song and now Celine has joined the chorus.

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, her new VP pick, have gotten a lot of mileage out of labeling Donald Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance “weird.” It’s a brilliant construction, as it’s taken the word hurled at those considered outsiders in America — by race, gender, or affinity — and attached it firmly to white men of the right-wing persuasion.
It’s also a primo move of someone who is a member of my generation, Generation X — taking back the power of the outsider and exposing those who claim...

Donald Trump’s rally in Montana Friday sparked a strong social media reaction after Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ – her Oscar-winning song from Titanic – was blared out from the speakers shortly before the presidential hopeful took to the stage.
The Daily Mail reports that the irony of an ode to a sinking ship being played at the event was not lost on observers, many of whom took to social media, one even asking if Trump’s team had a mole from Kamala Harris’s side, intent on trolling Trump with the choice of song.
This raises the question of whether the campaign has the rights, owned by 20th Century Fox, to use the song publicly. Donald Trump kept his Montana rally crowd waiting for nearly 90 minutes Friday night and then immediately insulted the state. Scheduled to speak at 8 p.m., he didn’t emerge until around 9:30 p.m., and then he said, “I’ve gotta like Tim Sheehy a lot to be here,” mentioning the GOP candidate for Senate who spoke before him. Trump went on to complain that it takes at least “two hours” to get anywhere in Montana.

Joe Rogan tried to clarify his praiseworthy comments about Robert Kennedy Jr. this week, leading to the belief that the podcast host was endorsing the independent candidate’s presidential bid.
“For the record, this isn’t an endorsement. This is me saying that I like RFKjr as a person, and I really appreciate the way he discusses things with civility and intelligence. I think we could use more of that in this world,” Rogan posted on X today, amid a backlash from comments he made earlier. “He’s the only one that makes sense to me,” Rogan said in a clip that spread across social media. “He doesn’t attack people. He attacks actions and ideas, but he’s much more reasonable and intelligent.”

After facing backlash from supporters of Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again movement, Joe Rogan is walking back reports that he endorsed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. when he expressed his support for the third-party presidential candidate on his podcast Thursday.
The influential podcaster explained on Thursday’s Joe Rogan Experience that he finds both the Democrat and Republican parties problematic and sees them as more concerned with spin than speaking the truth: “That’s just what they do. That’s politics. They do it on the left, they do it on the right,” Rogan told his audience. “They gaslight you, they manipulate you, they promote narratives, and the only one who is not doing that is Robert F. Kennedy Jr.”
He added of Kennedy, “He’s the only one that makes sense to me. He’s the only one — he doesn’t attack people, he attacks actions and ideas,...

Three of the biggest late-night shows – The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers – have not been on air since Joe Biden stepped down as the Democratic nominee for President.
The trio went on their summer hiatus – Olympic-induced for Fallon and Meyers – the week before Kamala Harris started running against Donald Trump so expect some politics, and Olympics, next week.
It marked the second time in as many months that the trio missed the big news of the week, having previously been on after President Biden’s disastrous debate performance and Trump’s selection of Vice President.

Four days after staging a walkout, the content creators of the Crooked Media Union have reached a deal with their employers.
The union and the company announced the new contract in a joint statement on Friday, writing that the deal “reflects the values of Crooked Media and that can serve as a new benchmark for our industry.”
“The union is also withdrawing the unfair labor charge and can unequivocally say that Crooked and its founders have upheld and continue to live up to the progressive principles, including support for unions, that our audience should expect,” the statement continued. “Bargaining can be contentious, but we’re excited about this agreement and ready to channel the immense talent, passion, and creativity of this team into calling Jd Vance a creepy weirdo.”
(The last line is not the first time in recent days that a union has taken a swipe at the Republican vice presidential candidate.

Lawrence O’Donnell had The Last Word on Thursday night on MSNBC. The news anchor called out the media, including his network, for covering Donald Trump’s press conference in full and ignoring Kamala Harris.
O’Donnell took to his late-night show to blast the media for not fact-checking Trump, who held a press conference in his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, saying, “It was 2016 all over again.”
“It would be hard to find a sentence in what Donald Trump said today that did not include at least one lie,” O’Donnell said on his show. “Some of the networks tried to play catch-up with fact-checking after Donald Trump finished speaking but, that of course, is way too late and utterly useless. No network even attempted to check every lie Donald Trump told.”
O’Donnell noted that “every network has the capacity, especially with these wide screens we now have at home, to...

(Updated with ABC debate confirmation, Harris comments) “We’d like to do three debates,” Donald Trump said today of meeting Kamala Harris face-to-face before the November election.
“I think it’s very important to have debates, and we’ve agreed with Fox on a date of September 4,” the GOP nominee announced today in a press conference from his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida. “We’ve agreed with NBC, fairly full agreement subject to them on September 10, and we’ve agreed with ABC on September 25 so we have those three dates and those networks,” Trump added.
Of course, Trump being Trump, the debates with the now poll-leading Vice President are not actually a done deal on all three outlets. “The other side has to agree to the terms,” the ex-Celebrity Apprentice host admitted. “They may or may not agree. I don’t know if they’re going to agree.”

Donald Trump is making false claims in a bizarre new press conference.
The 78-year-old former President of the United States shocked viewers with a press conference on Thursday (August 8), during which he repeatedly lied and said that “nobody was killed” during the deadly January 6 insurrection led by his supporters at the Capitol in 2021.
“I think the people that if you look at Jan. 6, which a lot of people aren’t talking about very much, those people were treated very harshly when you compare them to other things that took place in this country where a lot of people were killed,” Trump said at Mar-a-Lago.
“Nobody was killed on Jan. 6. But I think the people of Jan. 6 were treated very unfairly.”

Two weeks after announcing his decision to withdraw from a presidential debate scheduled to air on ABC in September, former President Donald Trump says he has reversed his position and will participate in the debate after all.
At a press conference on Thursday, Trump said he formally agreed to participate in the debate produced and distributed by ABC News, which is scheduled for September 10.
He previously agreed to participate in the debate when President Joe Biden was the presumed Democratic nominee. Biden, the incumbent, withdrew from the 2024 presidential race late last month, at which point Trump said he could no longer commit to the debate because the Democratic Party did not have a formal nominee.
Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee for the Democratic Party.

Barbara Butch is a self-proclaimed “love activist.” This, she says, is why her feelings weren’t hurt when her appearance in the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony unleashed an avalanche of death threats, abuse and harassment.
The French DJ was the centerpiece of a tableau during the four-hour event on July 26. Drag queens and dancers struck poses along a long table with Butch on the decks in the middle. Singer Philippe Katerine, painted in sparkly blue and semi-naked, sang while resting on a dinner platter in front.
Social media users were quick to claim the image resembled Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, the portrait of Jesus Christ and his 12 apostles before he was crucified. Suddenly, Butch was caught at the center of mass backlash.
Archbishop Charles Scicluna, the highest-ranking Catholic official in Malta and Vatican official for its doctrinal office, said he contacted France’s ambassador to Valletta to complain about the “gratuitous insult.

During his iconic career at CBS News, Dan Rather was on the ground in Dallas moments after President Kennedy is assassinated; covered the Civil Rights moment and the Vietnam War; and was the only anchor in China’s Tiananmen Square before the crackdown on protesters. He also famously was roughed up during the 1968 Democratic National Convention — which inspired Variety to ask Rather, still going strong at 92 (you can read his current “Steady” columns at steady.substack.com), to reflect on that tumultuous moment in U.S. politics and how it compares to what has happened in 2024.
One of the hallmarks of a good broadcast journalist is the ability to roll with the proverbial punches during live events. You have to be a good ad-libber and be able to pivot, ready for the unexpected. Suffice it to say that on March 31, 1968, I was not ready when President Lyndon Johnson delivered a shocker.

Shortly after the first 2024 presidential debate between incumbent President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump was announced, details about the second planned debate were also revealed. The second presidential debate was originally scheduled to take place in September on ABC, but following the first debate, a whole lot changed — including one of the candidates, as Vice President Kamala Harris now leads the Democratic ticket. So will the originally planned debate still take place this September? Here’s what we know so far. When and where was the second debate originally supposed to take place? The second presidential debate between the Democratic and Republican candidates was originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The debate was expected to air live on ABC and stream on ABC News Live and Hulu, along with being simulcast on other broadcast and streaming networks throughout the United States. Kamala Harris is allegedly not following Donald Trump's example of using streamers to promote her presidential campaign.
The United States VP recently made headlines after popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat claimed the Secret Service contacted him for a collaboration. However, a source denied his claims.
Kai Cenat's viral rant about Kamala Harris came on the heels of Donald Trump's successful interview with internet personality Adin Ross.
Kamala Harris' Campaign Reportedly Has Nothing To Do With Kai Cenat Mega
After Cenat went live with his claims about Harris and the Secret Service, a source with knowledge of the situation revealed that no one from the VP's camp had contacted the streamer or his team.
The insider stressed that there have been zero conversations between Harris's campaign and Cenat about a possible interview on his channel. Does this mean the YouTuber lied for clout? That doesn't seem to be the case.

For years, Donald Trump has been obsessed with the size of campaign-rally crowds, viewing it as a prime indicator of his political dominance. He cared so much about it that he had his own White House shamelessly lie about his inauguration attendance, in order to make him feel better.
Now, in the final three months of an uncomfortably tight presidential contest, Trump is flipping out about crowd sizes — both publicly and behind closed doors — but not, primarily, his own. According to one Republican source who’s spoken to the former president in recent days,...

At their best, political documentaries make sense of complex issues. But getting them seen has become more challenging than ever given Hollywood’s preference for celebrity or true-crime nonfiction offerings over anything grappling with thorny, complicated issues or figures.
This hasn’t stopped top documentary filmmakers from tackling such topics. Errol Morris’ “Separated,” a look at Trump administration immigration policies on the U.S. border, will debut at the Venice film festival. Docs about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, gun control and antisemitism are also in the works and could end up at fall festivals. There is also chatter about a doc focusing on Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
It’s not at all clear who might distribute these films, which follow in the footsteps of political documentaries like Michael Moore’s record-breaking “Fahrenheit 9/11” and Amazon Prime Video’s 2020 offering “All In: The Fight for Democracy,” directed by Liz Garbus and Lisa Cortés,...
