From Mighty Mint, Duplass Brothers Productions, and executive producers Everett, Hannah Bos & Paul Thureen, the series follows Sam, a true Kansan on the surface, but, beneath it all, struggling to fit the hometown mold. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam’s saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don’t fit in but don’t give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible. Anywhere. Somewhere. In season three, we see growth against all odds.

While you weren’t watching, Amazon’s Prime Video quietly blossomed into a haven for adult animation. The streaming service’s latest addition to its lineup, the sci-fi comedy “The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy,” is the brainchild of Cirocco Dunlap, whose résumé includes Netflix’s “Russian Doll” and “Big Mouth.” The show, which is now streaming, follows the adventures of two alien doctors, Klak and Sleech, as they treat a myriad of strange illnesses and maladies afflicting the brilliant and unique beings that populate the titular galaxy.
While the show’s writers are clearly having fun trying to stretch the limits of the imagination, the series also dedicates a significant amount of its runtime to telling relatable stories about universally understood medical conditions, too, like anxiety. The result is a well-rounded, enjoyable comedy that deserves your attention. When you toss in an impressive voice cast that also includes Kieran Culkin,...

Minx didn’t have much luck. After being canceled by HBO Max after one season, the erotic comedy was saved by Starz, but Minx has been canceled yet again following its second season.
The news isn’t all that surprising, but still a blow for fans of the series. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Minx stars Ophelia Lovibond as Joyce, an “earnest young feminist who joins forces with low-rent publisher (Jake Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women.” In addition to Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, Minx also stars Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya. The first season stands at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, although its audience score is much lower.

Starz will not be proceeding with a third season of 1970s-set series Minx.
The news is not surprising. Minx star Jake Johnson told Deadline last month that he did not expect a Season 3 renewal for the period erotic comedy, whose Season 2 finale aired Sept. 8.
Starz last January stepped in to rescue Minx, starring Ophelia Lovibond and Johnson, following the series’ cancellation by Max (then HBO Max) as part of cost-cutting tax write-offs while production was wrapping on Season 2. The premium network, which is in the process of cutting ties with owner Lionsgate, picked up both Season 1 and the unaired Season 2 of Minx, which is produced by Lionsgate Television. Both seasons will remain on the Starz app and all major platforms.
Speaking with Deadline, Johnson, who had cut his hair short in anticipation of the cancellation, referenced of Minx‘s first axing and the challenges the show faced by its second...

Bottom Dollar is closing shop.
Starz has opted to cancel Minx, the comedy about the first porn magazine for women, after a two-season run. The news comes after the series from creator Ellen Rapoport was originally developed for Warner Bros. Discovery streamer Max, which aired the first season and paid for a second before ultimately scrapping the show as a tax write-off with mere days remaining before production on the sophomore run was completed.
Minx was shopped by producers Lionsgate Television with the studio ultimately setting up the comedy starring Jake Johnson and Ophelia Lovibond at Starz, which is currently controlled by its parent company, Lionsgate. Max effectively paid to produce season two, with Lionsgate footing the bill to complete production and market season two. The second season premiered in July, in the thick of the writers and performers’ strikes making it challenging for cast members and producers to promote the show’s return.

“Minx” has been canceled at Starz, Variety has learned.
This now marks the second time the series has been canceled. The first season of the comedy originally aired on Max, where it was renewed for a second season before it was canceled in a cost-cutting move.
Starz then announced that they had acquired the second season of the show and would air it along with the first. Season 2 debuted on Starz on July 21. Both seasons remain available to stream on the Starz app and platforms.
The show received positive reviews from critics, holding an average critical approval rating of 93% over both seasons on Rotten Tomatoes. It failed to find a large audience, however, with the linear airings on Starz of Season 2 averaging less than 100,000 viewers per episode. There is no streaming viewership data publicly available for the series.

It looks like Minx won't be back for a third season. Star and executive producer Jake Johnson isn't expecting Starz to renew the low-rated series. Season two finished airing on the cable channel in early September.
A comedy series, the Minx TV show stars Ophelia Lovibond, Johnson, Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Oscar Montoya, and Elizabeth Perkins. A third season of Starz’s period erotic comedy Minx isn’t likely in the cards, according to co-ep and star Jake Johnson.
In a recent Zoom chat with Deadline, the actor shared that he hasn’t heard anything about a final decision. “But by evidence of me cutting my hair short,” he said, “I don’t [expect a renewal].”
“I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing, or HBO Max, whatever it’s called now, I think that was brutal for [the show],” Johnson reflected. “Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it…My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going.”
Johnson called the hampering of the show’s success, simply as a result of the turbulent Hollywood moment in which it debuted, “unfortunate,” given his feeling that “there was a lot to that show.

[Lennon Parham’s answers were collected prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] Minx is quickly approaching its Season 2 finale, and the characters have been through quite a lot already, particularly Shelly (Lennon Parham), Joyce’s (Ophelia Lovibond) sister and a contributor to the show’s titular publication. After first finding a spark with Bambi (Jessica Lowe) in Season 1, Shelly has come even further out of her shell, having explored swinging alongside her husband and most recently engaging in an affair with Joyce’s former professor on a visit to Vassar. As she struggled to find herself and come to terms with her identity, Shelly finally came to the realization in Episode 7, “God Closes a Door, Opens a Glory Hole,” that she is a lesbian. Starz “The process of coming out, I think, or discovering your sexual identity isn’t necessarily a straight line for most people,” series creator Ellen Rapoport told TV Insider.

In our Q&a series Popsugar Crush, we get to know some of our favorite celebs' more intimate details - from their signature scent to their perfect date night. This month, we're crushing on "Minx" star Jessica Lowe.
Jessica Lowe's Bambi is the beating heart of "Minx." The series, which moved to Starz for its second season, follows the titular women's magazine, which combines feminist essays with very sexy pornography, featuring men exclusively. And while her coworkers may overlook her from time to time, Bambi embodies what it means to be a Minx woman more than anyone else.
"She's an icon," Lowe tells Popsugar of her character. "A sexually open, stunningly stylish icon." Lowe describes her character as "not academic" with "a lot of grit." But when her coworkers overlook her - as they often do in season two - it deeply hurts Bambi. Combine that with her angst over her...

[Portions of this interview were conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Minx Season 2 Episode 6 “This Is Our Zig.”] Minx‘s second season is quickly approaching its end, and Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) is learning a big lesson in the latest episode, “This Is Our Zig”: Not everything is about her. The head of the show’s titular erotic magazine headed to Vassar with sister Shelly (Lennon Parham) with the intention of getting her old professor to write a prologue for her forthcoming book. She didn’t exactly achieve that goal, and in the process, Joyce is rightly put in her place for thinking too narrowly about the unfolding events. As she introduces Shelly to her school, Joyce discovers that her sister once attended college, albeit briefly, which put a crack in the view Joyce had of her sister. It turns out that when their mother left the family, Shelly left school to help ...

Make no mistake: It's women who come out on top in Minx's Battle of the Sexes, which plays out in various ways across Season 2, Episode 5, "A Stately Pleasure Dome Decree."
With Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug (Jake Johnson) heading to Las Vegas to woo international buyers, Bottom Dollar's employees turn their attention to one of the biggest cultural moments of the 1970s: the tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, dubbed the "Battle of the Sexes" by promoters. When the male models call King's talent into question — "I could return that serve with my hands tied behind my back," one says — Shelly (Lennon Parham) challenges them to prove it. In that moment, Minx makes (likely) history with the first televised penis-tennis match, in which Dustin (Chris Riggi) shoves his junk into the bottom of a tennis racket and stands opposite Shelly on the chalk-lined court.

Success isn't all it's cracked up to be in the second season of the Minx TV show on Starz. Playing a creep in Lifetime’s Vc Andrews’ Dawn limited series has its upsides.

During a star-studded promotional screening of “Deep Throat,” Joan Didion shares a prescient observation. She doesn’t want to — at least, not in that moment. All she wants is to enjoy the lavish party put on to promote Minx magazine. Check that: All she really wants is to be left in peace to use the restroom, but Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond), the editor-in-chief of Minx, can’t contain her giddy inquiries long enough for the acclaimed journalist to relieve her bladder. Joyce wants Joan to write for the magazine; something about “Deep Throat” and what it reflects about the shifting ‘70s culture, if not society at large. Joan isn’t all that interested, and instead encourages Joyce to pen the piece herself — but not before offering her reluctant, rushed assessment of the landmark porno being screened in the adjacent auditorium. “I don’t think it was their intent,” Joan says,...

Minx‘s tortuous path to Season 2 might’ve been a nail-biter for the fans — HBO Max renewed the comedy in May 2022, then cancelled it that December — but Starz’s quick decision to keep the show going meant that the cast knew fairly soon that Bottom Dollar Production’s doors would stay open.
And as a bonus, Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson point out in the video above, the outcry meant everyone involved in making the show had a really good sense that people were watching.

Last December, with just a week left of filming on Minx season two, the cast of the prestige period comedy about low-rent porn publisher Bottom Dollar and its launch of a fictional (and feminist) Playgirl-esque magazine, got news no one was expecting. They were canceled.
“Our show creator [Ellen Rapoport] kindly called us and said, ‘This is a bad phone call,’ and she relayed the news,” says Minx actress Jessica Lowe, who plays Bambi on the series. It was a moment that Minx star and co-executive producer Jake Johnson adds left the cast “all very shocked.”
“It was bananas because it happened at a time when we were on all of these year-end best lists,” recalls star Lennon Parham, who plays Shelly, the sister of Minx co-founder Joyce Prigger. “So everybody was just confused. I thought we were in the business of making great television, and we are universally in...

The Minx crew is back and “better than ever” in the trailer for the show’s anticipated second season.
In the two-minute look at the series’ sophomore run, Ophelia Lovibond’s Joyce and Jake Johnson’s Doug have reunited despite a rocky falling out at the end of season one. Back together and with a new power dynamic, the success of their “51/49” ownership in the growing Minx brand is arguably more than they and the Bottom Dollar team can handle.
Rolling Stone coverage, suitcases of cash and the promise of “something so much more than a magazine,” abound amid the flashing bulbs of red carpets, cigar smoke and male exotic dance numbers. But with “global” success comes temptations, and Doug, Joyce and the Bottom Dollar crew will have to face them head on.

Minx is thriving under Joyce's (Ophelia Lovibond) leadership, and we can't wait to see what's on tap for everyone.
Starz went public with the trailer for Minx Season 2 on Wednesday, and it shows the magazine reaching dizzying heights.
There's even a perfectly timed bit of dialogue from Jake Johnson's Doug at the beginning:
"A lot of people counted us out. But we are back and better than ever!"
Many did count the show out after HBO Max canceled Minx after one season.
We have Starz to thank for picking up Minx Season 2 because this show is a true gem, and the story deserves to be told.
It's a rarity to have such a refreshing show on the air, and thankfully, we'll have fresh episodes when Minx Season 2 debuts Friday, July 21.
The trailer promises to up the ante both on the show and for the magazine.

HBO has renewed the critically acclaimed comedy series Somebody Somewhere for a third season.
Created by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen, Somebody Somewhere is inspired by the life of comedian and singer Bridget Everett and is set in her native Kansas. The series follows Sam (played by Everett), a true Kansan on the surface, but, beneath it all, struggling to fit the hometown mold. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam’s saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don’t fit in but don’t give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible. Anywhere. Somewhere. Season two reminds us that families are hard, even the fun ones. Sam and Joel (Jeff Hiller) have settled into a comfy routine. But nothing stays the same forever.

HBO is heading back to the Little Apple.
The premium cable outlet has renewed Somebody Somewhere for a third season. The pickup comes a few days after the dramedy starring Bridget Everett and set in Manhattan, Kansas, concluded its seven-episode second season.
“We’re thrilled to announce the third season of the honest and impactful Somebody Somewhere,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vp comedy programming at HBO and Max. “Nothing makes us smile quite like this show, which never fails to remind us that life is made up of the small moments, that family can be chosen, and that dreams don’t have deadlines.”
The series draws relatively modest viewership in relation to some other HBO originals, but it’s been a critical favorite. Season one received an AFI Award as one of the top 10 TV programs of 2022.

Thank your lucky Starz, "Minx" fans. A second season is back on the schedule - and coming soon. HBO Max ordered a second installment of the popular show in May 2022 but changed its mind in December 2022 amid cost-cutting measures (all this despite the fact that production for the new season was nearly complete). A month later, Starz announced it had reached a deal to acquire the show and air the second season. Now, Starz has revealed that "Minx" will return this summer.
Set in Los Angeles on the backdrop of the 1970s sexual revolution, "Minx" is a workplace comedy that follows a team working to create and distribute an erotic magazine for women. Young feminist Joyce Prigger, played by Ophelia Lovibond, is the mastermind behind an inspired-by-real-magazines publication called "Minx." She has to deal with a less-than-ideal ex-boyfriend Glenn (played by Michael Angarano) and a publisher who pushes her away...

Five months after being rescued from cancellation by Starz, the 1970s adult film industry satire “Minx” has a premiere date for its second season. And it’s coming sooner than you think.
Season 2 of the comedy series starring Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson will premiere 9 p.m. Et Friday, July 21, on Starz in the U.S. and Canada. But cord cutters will get a head start, as subscribers to Starz’s streaming site, app and on demand platforms will get access to the Season 2 premiere at midnight Friday.
Set in Los Angeles in the 1970s, “Minx” follows feminist intellectual Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond) after she joins forces with Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson), a low-rent smut publisher, to launch Minx, the first-ever erotic magazine aimed specifically at women. The second season will see Doug and Joyce grapple with their magazine’s success, and all the more money and problems that entails.
