It would be unreasonable to expect Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, as the first of a planned four-film series about the expansion of the American West, to tie all of its narrative threads together. But Kevin Costner’s grand opus gets off to an inauspicious start, with its various storylines often muddled by the consistently haphazard editing, to the point that it becomes difficult to tell how many of the countless characters are related to one another.
If the audience is meant to be privy to where things are heading, there should at least be some clearly defined motivations or character development, perhaps even something resembling narrative momentum. But Horizon Chapter 1 is all table-setting, with the stories lacking in polish and dramatic momentum and the characters never developed beyond archetypes. There’s even little sense of either geographic or temporal scope to make this entry feel like part...

When you hear that Oscar winners Nicolas Cage and J.K. Simmons are teaming up with popular actors Giancarlo Esposito, Andy Garcia, and Scott Haze for a movie, it sounds more than promising. When you also know that it is going to be an addiction flick that explores the good and the bad sides of this issue, it becomes even more promising. To that, you can also add the fact that the movie will be partially inspired by the real-life story of the recently convicted Hunter Biden, son of current US President Joe Biden, and you have – The Prince!
The Prince has officially entered pre-production, as the premise and confirmed cast members imply that we’re in for a very interesting movie. The Hunter Biden connection will definitely attract a lot of fans, and while this won’t be a biographical film about the convicted businessman, many will definitely notice some...

Exclusive: Director Cameron Van Hoy has entered production on The Prince, a new feature drama penned by Pulitzer Prize winner and Oscar nominee David Mamet. Scott Haze (Old Henry) leads a starry ensemble that also includes Nicolas Cage (Pig), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Giancarlo Esposito (Parish) and Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven).
The Prince chronicles an addict’s tumultuous odyssey through the high-stakes world of power, pleasure, and pain on a transformative journey toward recovery.
While unconfirmed, we’re told by multiple sources close to the project that the lead character Parker, played by Haze, is inspired at least in part by Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, whose abuse of drugs and alcohol is well documented — including in his 2021 memoir Beautiful Things — and who was found guilty Tuesday in Delaware of three felony counts related to the purchase of a gun in 2018.

Kevin Costner spent $38 million of his own money to finance his new Western film Horizon: An American Saga. Well, the early tracking numbers are in, and the news is not good: the first part of Horizon is currently projected to make $12 million in its opening weekend of release on June 28th (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Horizon has been Costner’s passion project for decades, having first begun working on it in 1988. Now, decades later, he’s finally set to unveil the first part of what he ultimately hopes to be a four-installment film franchise that he will write, direct, and star in himself. The total budget for the first two films sits around $100 million, with Costner himself having personally contributed $38 million to the overall budget (apparently by mortgaging his house). The remaining chunk was reportedly financed through foreign sales.

Academy Award-winning visionary filmmaker Kevin Costner directs New Line Cinema’s vast Horizon: An American Saga Chapters One and Two, a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. A story of America too big for one film, this true cinematic event also stars Costner, who co-writes with Jon Baird (The Explorers Guild) and produces through his Territory Pictures.
In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

If you thought the first trailer was intense, it’s not intense compared to the second one, which suavely showed off Costner’s gun-slinging and tough-talking character. And that stand-off with Jamie Campbell Bower is sure to give your goosebumps goosebumps.
Kevin Costner – Shares New Look At His Upcoming Two-part Western Movie
The first trailer showed us the chaos that envelopes a town when settlers move in, and the second one is taking us deep into the heart of the whole process that led to the massive unrest.
While you may claim to have seen Kevin Costner in a western movie for many years – re ‘Yellowstone’ – you haven’t seen him in this one.
Let’s just say he’s a tad more brutal within this new environment.
Apart from showing us the breathtaking landscapes, we’re also introduced to more characters and we get to see and understand more of Costner’s character.

Kevin Costner is one of the most recognizable names in the movie industry, without a doubt. He has starred in numerous movies, including The Untouchables, Jkf, The Bodyguard, and others, but it seems that was Kevin Costner really likes is the western genre. He starred in Wyatt Earp, directed and starred in Dances with Wolves, which earned him two Oscars, and starred in the western series Hatfields & McCoys and Yellowstone, and he is currently working on a four-part movie series, Horizon: An American Saga, which is going to be set in the Civil War era, and we have just received confirmation of the first film’s epic runtime. The movie is set to premiere on May 19, 2024 at the Cannes Film Festival, and ahead of the premiere, a new official trailer has been revealed!
In short, Kevin Costner is directing, starring, and co-writing the saga, with Jon Baird joining him as co-writer.

Kevin Costner‘s two-part western epic passion project is just over the horizon. The first part of Horizon: An American Saga premieres next month and Warner Bros. has just released the new official second trailer for the film. The Yellowstone actor has returned to the director’s seat for the first time in over twenty years for these films. Costner began work on this story in 1988 and he has more movies planned. The main character that he invented for this film in 1988 was so important to him that he even named his son, Hayes, after him. He hopes the movies can be a big franchise and that years from now, people can binge-watch hours of Horizon in theaters.

We’re big champions of physical media here at JoBlo, and despite ongoing claims that it will soon be going the way of the Dodo, we’ve yet to see its demise. Kevin Costner is also a big fan of physical media, and when asked by Deadline about the supposed “death of the DVD,” he was quick to jump to its defence.
“Death of the what? DVD is not dead, at all,” Kevin Costner said. “That’s what they’d have you believe. Maybe it’s not making the same amount of money, but just try to go ask for that from the studio. They won’t give that up. A lot of people that like my movies, they can’t get to a theater, and they’re waiting for that moment. You can’t make your film for the opening weekend. You have to make it for its life.

A lot of people that like my movies, they can’t get to a theater, and they’re waiting for that moment. You can’t make your film for the opening weekend. You have to make it for its life.

Kevin Costner is one of the most recognizable names in the movie industry, without a doubt. He has starred in numerous movies, including The Untouchables, Jkf, The Bodyguard, and others, but it seems that was Kevin Costner really likes is the western genre. He starred in Wyatt Earp, directed and starred in Dances with Wolves, which earned him two Oscars and starred in the western series Hatfields & McCoys and Yellowstone. It is obvious that he likes the Wild West in all shapes and sizes, and his next movie projects confirm that. Costner is currently working on a four-part movie series, Horizon: An American Saga, which is going to be set in the Civil War era, and we have just received confirmation of the first film’s epic runtime.

To coincide with The Seeding hitting OnDemand today, courtesy of Magnet Releasing, we have an exclusive clip just for Daily Dead readers!
"In The Seeding, a hiker lost in the desert takes refuge with a woman living alone, and soon discovers that she might not be there willingly. Directed by Barnaby Clay (Shot! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra Of Rock), the film stars Scott Haze and Kate Lyn Sheil."
Director/Writer Barnaby Clay:"The Seeding deals with big themes, but in a small, contained way, almost like a brutal adult version of a children's story or fable - something to bore under your skin and stick around for a while. I hope, like all great horror, it speaks some truth about human nature, even if its a side we’d rather not see."

Hold onto your horses, folks! Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga is riding into CinemaCon 2024 to share the latest about the Yellowstone and Dances With Wolves star’s Western epic. On Monday, we learned the first part of Horizon: An American Saga, which will debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19. Still, attendees moseying into CinemaCon got a new look at the sprawling drama of how settlers won the West.
During the Warner Bros. panel, Costner addressed the CinemaCon crowd, saying the movie is a bit about the promise of America. The idea was that if you were mean enough, tough enough, you could take what you wanted, but in the process, you stepped on people who had been here for 1000 years. But the film does not pass judgment, and that story, to him, was drama.

Kevin Costner is hoping a few years from now, moviegoers will have the opportunity to binge four Horizon movies in theaters.
“Maybe a year and a half, two years from now, they will come (to theaters) for 12 hours,” he told the assembled crowd of theater owners Tuesday at CinemaCon, where he teased his two-part Horizon films.
So far, only two of his planned four films have been made, he acknowledged, but he has two more scripts ready to go, should the risky film project he helped finance be successful.
“When I think about the promise of America, there was a promise out here, if you could go. If you were tough enough, if you were mean enough, if you were resourceful enough, if you were lucky enough, you could take what you wanted in America,” Costner said of the appeal of the American West. “That promise meant that we step...

Kevin Costner has stepped behind the camera for the first time in over twenty years for Horizon: An American Saga, a Western epic that looks… well, epic. It was announced today that Horizon will debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19th, with Costner and the cast in attendance.
“I’d like to thank the Festival de Cannes for including my film Horizon, An American Saga in this year’s selection,” Costner said in a statement. “It’s been 20 years since I’ve had the pleasure of being on the Croisette. I’ve been waiting for the right time to return and I’m proud to say that this time has come. Horizon, An American Saga is a story that began 35 years ago, and I can’t think of a better place than Cannes to reveal to the world the result of such a wonderful adventure. The French have...

Kevin Costner’s hugely ambitious western saga arrives this summer: here’s the new trailer, but no UK release yet.
Regular readers of this site may be already aware just how much I’m looking forward to the most ambitious Kevin Costner project in years. It’s Horizon: An American Saga, a series of four films that Costner is part-funding. Just as with his last directorial effort, the brilliant 2003 western Open Range, he’s independently funded the movie, and brought in distributors afterwards.
In the US, it’s New Line Cinema – and thus Warner Bros – that’s going to be releasing the first two films, both of which are coming out this summer. The first lands in June, the second lands in August, and both are getting US cinema releases.
As far as I’ve been able to ascertain, and heck I’ve been looking, there’s been no deal...

Take a look at more footage from Oscar winning director Kevin Costner’s new 4-part movie series "Horizon: An American Saga", rated 'R' for "violence, nudity and sexuality," chronicling a 15-year span of pre-and post-'Civil War' settlement of the ‘American Old West’, releasing June 28, 2024 (Chapter 1) and August 16, 2024 (Chapter 2) in theaters:
"A lot of times we measure ourselves against other generations," said Costner about his new film series.
"I think about what was at stake. How did people survive? There's a rawness and an unpredictability about it. I'm haunted by that."
Costner, in addition to directing, stars in "Horizon", alongside his son Hayes Costner, who plays the young Costner.
Cast also includes Sienna Miller…
…Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Michael Rooker, Jena Malone, Isabelle Fuhrman, Alejandro Edda...
...Tatanka Means, Tom Payne, Abbey Lee, Wasé Chief, Tim Guinee, Michael Angarano…

Kevin Costner on Monday shared on socials a first trailer for Horizon, the two-part Western epic that played a role in his growing frustrations with his Yellowstone experience.
Before the WGA strike began last May, Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan had completed scripts for the back half of the show’s fifth season that did not include Costner, whose alleged demands had been widely reported. Per the industry-insider newsletter Puck, Costner’s reps later expressed his desire to return for Season 5B and possibly more.

Part one of “Horizon: An American Saga,” the multi-film Western epic that Kevin Costner left “Yellowstone” to make, will hit theaters on June 28, with part two to follow on August 16. Warner Bros. released a trailer for the two-part film on Monday.
The trailer promises a sprawling, colorful, violent Western film about Manifest Destiny. It’s about the settling of the titular town during the years of the Civil War, as the American frontier pushes westward and settlers come into conflict with the people indigenous to the land. “There’s no army on this Earth that are going to stop those wagons coming,” a Union Army officer played by Costner’s “Yellowstone” co-star Danny Huston warns in something like the trailer’s thesis statement.
Costner wrote the script for “Horizon” with Jon Baird, produces with Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard, directs, and stars. It’s his first time directing a film since 2003’s “Open Range,...

Kevin Costner has revealed the trailer for the first installment of Horizon: An American Saga, his upcoming multi-part, self-funded western. Horizon Part One is set to hit theaters on June 28th, 2024, with part two following just weeks later on August 16th.
Horizon has been Costner’s passion project for decades, having first begun working on it in 1988. He wrote directed, and stars in the film — and also largely financed it himself (apparently by mortgaging his house). It’s also the reason why Costner decided to depart Yellowstone.
After securing a distribution deal with Warner Bros. and New Line in 2022, Costner left the set of Yellowstone and headed to Utah, where he shot the first two installments of Horizon in succession. Depending on the success of those films, Costner hopes to make two more installments.

Academy Award-winning visionary filmmaker Kevin Costner directs New Line Cinema’s vast “Horizon: An American Saga” Chapters One and Two, a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. A story of America too big for one film, this true cinematic event also stars Costner, who co-writes with Jon Baird (“The Explorers Guild”) and produces through his Territory Pictures.

Sorting through America’s history is a Herculean task. Humans built the nation with blood, sweat, and tears, watering the soil with memory, pain, and perseverance. Today, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga trailer explores the settlement of America’s Western frontier from the Indigenous groups who blessed the land to those who occupied it by force. Horizon will be Kevin Costner‘s first time directing a movie since Open Range in 2003. He also busted out his directing chops for The Postman and Dances with Wolves, the latter of which earned him an Academy Award for Best Director.
Kevin Costner’s Horizon will “span 15 years in the settlement of America’s Western frontier, and focus on both the settlers as well as the Indigenous groups that first occupied the land.”
Here’s the official synopsis for Horizon: An American Saga courtesy of Warner Bros.:

Lightbulb Film Distribution is pleased to share the poster & trailer for new claustrophobic horror-thriller, The Seeding – which is out now on UK Digital Download. The debut feature from Barnaby Clay (multi-award-winning music video director), the film stars Scott Haze and Kate Lyn Sheil.
The World Premiere took place at Tribeca in June 2023 with the UK premiere taking place at FrightFest in August 2023.
A man trapped in a desert canyon with a mysterious woman is held captive by feral children…
Filmmaker Barnaby Clay says, “The Seeding deals with big themes, but in a small, contained way, almost like a brutal adult version of a children’s story or fable – something to bore under your skin and stick around for a while. I hope, like all great horror, it speaks some truth about human nature, even if it’s a side we’d rather not see.” The Seeding is available to own...

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe At Worldwide Box Office: From Venom To Madame Web! ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
With Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web out in the theatres, another movie has been added to Sony’s Spider-Man universe. We have seen other films in that universe, including Tom Hardy-led Venom. However, the films comparatively earn less at the box office than the MCU movies, but remind you, we are not talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films.
The Spider-Man movies have been under Sony for a long time until Tom Holland played the role; it merged with the MCU, and thanks to that, the fans witnessed Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom’s versions of Peter Parker in 2021’s No Way Home. In the end credits, we saw Tom Hardy’s characters, Eddie Brock and Venom.

Scott Haze shines as a man who takes shelter with a mysterious woman in a tin shack at the bottom of a canyon
‘Never trust the surly feral kid” should be up there with “don’t have sex” and “ignore the late-night phone call” as crucial horror-movie life advice. That’s where hiker Wyndham (Scott Haze), out in the wilds photographing an eclipse, goes wrong in this horror-fringed thriller. Lured away from his car by Orion (Charlie Avink), who claims his parents have gone awol, Wyndham becomes lost and takes refuge in a tin shack at the bottom of a canyon. It’s inhabited by Alina (Kate Lyn Sheil), a blank young woman who offers him soup of dubious provenance.
The next morning, Alina is oddly nonplussed when the ladder leading back to the top has disappeared. They are both prisoners of a gang of demented youths who live in “the palace” up yonder,...

Independent filmmaking is not for the faint of heart, and writer-director Barnaby Clay just spent eight years learning that lesson en route to his first narrative feature, The Seeding.
Clay began his directorial career in music videos for artists such as Rihanna, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Gnarls Barkley, as well as short films and documentaries, like the Mick Rock doc, Shot! Stories of directors making the jump from music videos to feature films used to be more common when music videos were not only as visible as any movie or album release, but were also treated with nearly the same cultural cachet. The transition still happens, but not to the degree that it once did when the likes of David Fincher, Sofia Coppola and Jonathan Glazer launched their filmmaking careers off of their award-winning and artistic exploits in music videos.
Fortunately for Clay, he has two friends who successfully...

‘The Seeding’ Director Barnaby Clay on How to Jump From Short Films to Features — Horror Film School

Barnaby Clay is a true Renaissance man.
Having directed short films, music videos for artists ranging from David Bowie to Rihanna, a feature-length documentary on photographer Mick Rock, and even launched a visual art installation with Danger Mouse and his wife, Yeah Yeah Yeahs rocker Karen O, he is no stranger to expanding his creativity into different mediums.
Yet his newest frontier is feature-length narrative filmmaking, and his debut, the horror film “The Seeding,” expands on the striking imagery of his past work. The plot follows a man (Scott Haze) trapped in the desert, being taken care of by a mysterious woman (Kate Lyn Sheil), who may have an insidious agenda for keeping him safe from the roving gang of teens that are trapping him there.

A handful of indies bow or expand this weekend as Oscar hopefuls from Poor Things to The Holdovers and American Fiction crowd theaters after nominations earlier this week. Anatomy Of A Fall is getting a big bump. Oppenheimer is back on Imax.
New specialty releases include Daisy Ridley-starring Sometimes I Think About Dying by Rachel Lambert, and Tótem by Lila Avilés. Separately, Sundance has just wrapped up announcing winners from a new crop of independent films.
What we have post Oscar-nomination Tuesday, is this: Searchlight Pictures’ Poor Things by Yorgos Lanthimos going wide on 2,226 screens, up from 1,400. The film starring Emma Stone had 11 nominations, second only to Oppenheimer. That Christopher Nolan blockbuster summer release from Universal is returning to 750 Imax screens worldwide, including iconic 70mm film theaters. Oppenheimer led all nominees for the 96th Oscars on Tuesday, with 13.
Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction from Amazon MGM Studios moves to 1,500 theaters from 850. Released Dec.

A half hour into Barnaby Clay’s debut narrative feature, “The Seeding,” Scott Haze drops to his knees and begs, “Will someone just tell me What is going on?” It’s an uncharacteristically funny beat coming from a character deadass named Wyndham Stone, a photographer who explicitly shops at Brooks Brothers and boasts all the personality of half-off wrinkle guard. But the unintentionally self-aware line is an early pop of entertainment in this otherwise maddening experiment in atmospheric dread. “What Is going on?” you’ll wonder ad nauseam — only to be forced-fed an answer less satisfying than a hunk of moldy bread. At least the table setting works.

The feature debut of director Barnaby Clay, Magnet Releasing’s The Seeding centers on a hiker who gets lost in the desert and seeks refuge with a woman who is living alone.
He soon discovers that she might not be there willingly…
Today, as the film releases in theaters and on PVOD, Magnet has exclusively provided Bloody Disgusting with a sneak preview clip that you can watch below.
Clay tells us, “The film has been gestating for a long time, so it’s thrilling for people to finally get to experience it. I say ‘experience’ because I set out to make The Seeding as immersive as possible. It’s not a film to feel removed from, it’s an experience that drags you though the sand, the heat, the decay, and also natural beauty of the world it takes place in.

Director/Writer Barnaby Clay:"The Seeding deals with big themes, but in a small, contained way, almost like a brutal adult version of a children's story or fable - something to bore under your skin and stick around for a while. The opening moments of writer/director Barnaby Clay’s feature debut, The Seeding, call to mind extreme desert-set horror films like The Hills Have Eyes. A small child toddles through harsh, sandy terrain as he contently gnaws on a severed finger. The camera then watches overhead as a man parks his car and heads out to photograph a solar eclipse overhead, far from the bustling city and oblivious to any danger. It’s here where The Seeding quickly leaves familiar territory behind in favor of psychological arthouse fare.
The man, Wyndham Stone (Scott Haze), nearly makes it back to his car safe and sound until he comes upon a crying boy claiming to be lost. Wyndham knows something is amiss, but his guilt at the possibility of abandoning a child in peril overrides all warning signals. Before he knows it, he’s drawn into the wild and becomes lost himself.

The Seeding certainly has one of the most memorable opening shots in recent history, a filthy toddler wanders across the desert gnawing on what looks like a teething biscuit. Until the camera pulls in, and we see that it’s a human finger.
Photographer Wyndham Stone has hiked into the desert to get shots of an eclipse. Hiking back out, he sees a somewhat older boy who is apparently lost, however after trying to help him, Stone finds himself lost and alone. He doesn’t find the way back to his car, but he does find a crater with a house in it, and a ladder leading down to it. Not recognizing an obvious trap when he sees it, he climbs down and finds the house has an occupant, a woman named Alina who offers him so dubious...
