In 1977, Dolly Parton’s career was on enough of an upward trajectory that she was performing for audiences of celebrities. At a show in New York, a number of big names turned up to watch Parton sing. While Parton is confident in her abilities, she admitted that getting in front of this crowd was a daunting task.
Dolly Parton performed to an audience of celebrities at one concert
In 1977, Parton geared up to play three shows at New York’s Bottom Line. This was a big opportunity for her, as it gave her a chance to perform songs from her more pop-centric album New Harvest … First Gathering. Parton had been performing in front of audiences for years at this point, but the show in New York felt like a new frontier. It didn’t help that there were many highly recognizable faces in the audience.

Sammy Hagar took time out of his concert on Friday night (August 2nd) to honor Aerosmith, who had just announced their retirement from touring only hours earlier. The Red Rocker praised singer Steven Tyler for knowing when to call it a day, while also declaring that “a lot of other motherf**kers should have did a long time ago,” perhaps a not-so-subtle dig at longtime nemesis David Lee Roth.
As reported, Aerosmith abruptly retired from touring on Friday, citing Tyler’s vocal injury. The band had hoped to embark on their farewell tour this September after postponing it last year, but determined “that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible.”

After over a decade of development, Gearbox CEO and Borderlands creator Randy Pitchford is celebrating a major milestone as the highly anticipated Borderlands movie prepares to blast onto the big screen this summer. Directed by Eli Roth and starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart, Cate Blanchett, and Jack Black, the August 9th release will bring the action-packed and humor-filled world of the popular shooter-looter franchise to a wider audience.
When Pitchford first began pursuing a Borderlands film adaptation in the early 2010s, Hollywood remained skeptical that a movie based on a video game could find mainstream success. “The expectation back then was you couldn’t do a video game movie and have it mean anything,” Pitchford told GamesRadar+. However, box office hits like Detective Pikachu, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and the Assassin’s Creed film have helped transform perceptions.

After literally years of waiting, the "Borderlands" movie is finally upon us. Directed by Eli Roth (with an assist from "Deadpool" director Tim Miller), the feature film based on the wildly popular series of video games arrives on the big screen next weekend. Not only have fans of the games long been waiting to see these characters brought to life, but Lionsgate has been actively working on this adaptation for several years. It's been plagued with delays, but it's now, at long last, going to get its day in court. Unfortunately, based on the early indicators, from a business perspective, it's not going to be a bumpy ride.
"Borderlands" is currently eyeing an opening weekend domestically in the $13 to $18 million range, per Box Office Theory. The big question mark right now is the film's budget, which has yet to be reported. It is estimated to be in the $100 million range.

The real-life inspiration behind Baby Reindeer‘s Martha was never convicted of stalking Richard Gadd as depicted in the show, but subject to a court order, a letter from Netflix to the U.K. government has confirmed.
Scotswoman Fiona Harvey was soon uncovered by fans of the smash hit show – which chronicles Gadd‘s years being harassed and stalked by a woman he once pitied while serving her at a pub – on social media, where she had been found to have sent Gadd thousands of tweets, dating back years. “I have no doubt that the character of ‘Martha’ in Baby Reindeer was intended to be a portrayal of me,” Harvey later said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter via her lawyer.
“The problem for Richard Gadd and now for Netflix is that Baby Reindeer is not a true story at all. I am not a ‘convicted stalker.’ I have...

Richard Gadd, the creator and star of Netflix’s Emmy-nominated series ‘Baby Reindeer’, is preparing to testify in support of Netflix in its $170 million lawsuit brought by Fiona Harvey, a Scottish woman who claims the show misrepresented her as a convicted stalker. Although Gadd is not a defendant in the suit, he has filed a declaration supporting Netflix’s effort to have the lawsuit dismissed.
In the lawsuit, Harvey contends that *Baby Reindeer* inaccurately portrays her as the character Martha, who is depicted in the series as a convicted stalker who harasses and threatens Gadd’s character. The show, based on Gadd’s stage play of the same name, follows Donny, an amateur comedian portrayed by Gadd, who endures years of harassment, including over 41,000 emails, 744 tweets, 100 pages of letters, and 350 hours of voicemails from Martha.

Richard Gadd, creator and star of Netflix’s Emmy-nominated series Baby Reindeer, is prepared to testify for Netflix in the streamer’s $170 million lawsuit against the “real-life” Martha Scott.
The actor is not named as a defendant in the suit brought against Netflix by Scotswoman Fiona Harvey, but has backed getting the legal action dismissed in a declaration filed on Monday.
Audiences were gripped by the story of Donny, an amateur comedian played by Gadd in the Netflix series, who, over the course of several years, is harassed, stalked and sent over 41,000 emails, 744 tweets, 100 pages of letters and 350 hours of voicemails by a woman he serves at a London pub. Martha, who had already served a four-and-a-half-year jail term for a previous stalking conviction in Baby Reindeer, is eventually jailed for nine months after threatening and sexually harassing Gadd. Eli Roth is hopeful that 'Borderlands' could be the start of a film franchise. The 52-year-old director has helmed the new movie based on the hit video game of the same name and is convinced that there is scope for more stories to be told should the project be successful when it hits cinemas next month.Speaking to SFX magazine, Eli said: "With multiple 'Borderlands' games, there's so much in the world – it was very difficult to narrow it down just for this story. It took seven years to come up with a draft that everyone was happy with."So my feeling is, any time you start talking about the universe, you can get into trouble because you're not focusing on the movie you're making."But I do believe that there's so much there that, if the fans like it, and it sells, we would love to continue.

When Hostel director Eli Roth was cast as the Bear Jew in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (2009), fans were skeptical that he would be up to the task, considering his relative inexperience in front of the camera.
“At the time, people were saying, ‘Why is Tarantino casting Eli? He’s not an actor,’” Roth tells Den of Geek magazine. “And Tarantino is going, ‘Yes, he is. Wait until the movie comes out.’ Fifteen years later, the Bear Jew is a classic character. The way to prove people wrong is with your work.”

Who would have thought that David Lynch would inspire a video game adaptation portrayal?
Jack Black cited the auteur as a reference for his take on bringing his “Borderlands” character, android Claptrap, to life. Black voices the droid, and channeled his best Lynch impression while in the recording booth.
“It’s kind of a weird reference, but David Lynch. It’s a little old Americana, but he’s also got a twisted, surreal look on the world,” Black told Entertainment Weekly about his take on the tone for Claptrap.
Black added that the “Borderlands” GearBox video game fully embodies his “favorite genre” to play.
“It captured the energy of my favorite genre, which is post-apocalyptic action-adventure,” Black said. “‘Road Warrior’ comes to mind.”

Borderlands Trailer: Cate Blanchett And Kevin Hart Head To Pandora In Eli Roth Video Game Adaptation
![Image](https://cdn.statically.io/img/m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BNDhiZDhkM2YtNWMyMi00YTg2LWE0ZTktMzI4MzQ5OTdkODE0XkEyXkFqcGc@._V1_QL75_UX500_CR0,0,500,281_.jpg)
In recent years, the infamous video game adaptation curse has been broken on the small screen with a slew of surprisingly stellar series like The Last Of Us, Fallout, and The Witcher. On the big screen however, despite the box office success of feature fare such as The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Five Nights At Freddy's, we're still awaiting a real gamer and critic uniting humdinger. Hostel helmsman Eli Roth is looking to provide just that however with his take on Gearbox Studios' space western first-person shooter Borderlands. And armed with an all-star cast (Cate Blanchett! Kevin Hart! Jack Black!), some serious Guardians Of The Galaxy vibes, and the promise of Blanchett getting to go full Escape From New York Kurt Russell with her take on the franchise's gunslinging icon Lilith, he may yet do it. The eye-popping final trailer for the summer blockbuster certainly looks the part at least.

Eli Roth wanted to lean into the “anarchy” of adapting video game “Borderlands” for the big screen.
The director told Entertainment Weekly that he channeled the “insanity” of films like John Carpenter’s infamous “Escape from New York” from 1981 and Luc Besson’s 1997 film “The Fifth Element.” Both sci-fi adventure features later became cult classics.
“I wanted to make something totally bonkers and bat-shit crazy, that has the insanity of ‘The Fifth Element’ or ‘Escape From New York,'” Roth said. “I think there’s a spirit of anarchy and absurdity in the game. I wanted the movie to have that same spirit as well: a movie completely made by lunatics.”
“Borderlands” stars Cate Blanchett as Lillith, the leader of a ragtag group of space mercenaries, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, Arianna Greenblatt, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black. The film is adapted from the GearBox video game.

Lionsgate has brought online the new Borderlands trailer, which features more footage from the sci-fi adventure based on the video game series. The film will open in theaters on August 9, 2024.
Directed by Eli Roth from a script by Roth and Joe Crombie, Borderlands is based on the video game created by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. The film has been rated PG-13 by the MPA for intense sequences of violence and action, language, and some suggestive material.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but "Borderlands" is actually, finally coming to theaters after wrapping principal photography all the way back in 2021. Directed by horror maestro Eli Roth, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Crombie, the film is based on the Gearbox Software video game of the same name. Between "Fallout" on Prime Video and "The Last of Us" on HBO, we're currently in a golden era of video game adaptations. Can "Borderlands" continue the trend?

As the Hollywood news cycle continues to churn with anticipation for the launch of Deadpool & Wolverine, presidential candidate endorsements, and enthusiasm for the increasing numbers of the summer box office, Focus Features is ready to make headlines by assigning a date for Steven Soderbergh‘s upcoming spy drama Black Bag. The studio says Black Bag opens in theaters on March 14, 2024. Focus will release the film in the US, and Universal Pictures International will handle international distribution.
Black Bag is a high-stakes mystery starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender, as well as Regé-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Naomie Harris, Tom Burke, and Pierce Brosnan. Steven Soderbergh directs Black Bag from a script by David Koepp. Soderbergh and Blanchett previously worked together on his 2006 noir thriller The Good German. Additionally, Blanchett played a part in the film Ocean’s 8, part of Soderbergh’s Ocean’s 11 franchise. Soderbergh produced Ocean’s 8 but didn’t direct that one.

In the 1970s, Dolly Parton and her band toured constantly. They lived on the bus and in hotel rooms as Parton attempted to reach broader and broader audiences. The members of her band agreed that touring with Parton was a good job, so long as they could hold their position. Parton herself admitted that it wasn’t always easy to keep a job in her band.
Dolly Parton admitted that she was a tough boss to her band
As Parton worked to hone her sound as a solo artist, she hired and fired a series of musicians to accompany her on the road. According to her guitarist, Don Roth, Parton was a tough boss.
“First of all, everybody’s afraid they’re gonna get fired; there’s no stability,” Roth said in the book Dolly by Alanna Nash. “Because if she doesn’t like you, and chances are she won’t,...

In the 1970s, Dolly Parton took the stage at a New York concert in front of an array of celebrities. Major musicians, actors, and artists eagerly waited to hear Parton perform. While Parton was her typical self onstage, cracking jokes and singing songs about her upbringing, at least one critic believed the act was overly calculated. Parton’s guitarist shared why it may have come across this way.
Dolly Parton’s guitarist said she was very nervous at a concert in New York
In 1977, Parton played three shows at New York’s Bottom Line to audiences that included people like Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen, and John Belushi. The crowd adored her, but one critic for the New Times believed Parton was overly concerned with “capturing attention than on rewarding it.” Parton’s guitarist, Don Roth, thought this resulted from nerves.
“I can tell you one thing,” Roth said in the book Dolly by Alanna Nash.

For Fiona Harvey, the woman who claims to be the inspiration for Baby Reindeer’s stalker character, the Netflix series’ impressive Emmy recognition is a “slap in the face.” Baby Reindeer earned 11 nominations for the 2024 Emmy Awards — including an Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series nomination and nods for creator-star Richard Gadd and costars Jessica Gunning, Nava Mau, and Tom Goodman-Hill. But Richard Roth, Harvey’s lawyer, told the Daily Mail that the nominations were the latest “slap in the face” for Harvey — who “suffered a life-changing tragedy” due to Baby Reindeer’s “brutal lies,” he added. “There was some suggestion that the series shouldn’t have been nominated for Emmys because of this ongoing issue,” Roth said. “The Netflix claim that Baby Reindeer is a true story is clearly false.” Now Harvey is living in fear, Roth said. “She’s afraid to go out in case people shout at her in the street,...

Richard Gadd‘s smash Netflix hit Baby Reindeer has landed 11 Emmy nominations.
Among the nearly dozen nods is a best lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie for Gadd, as well as best supporting actress nominations in the equivalent category for Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau. Tom Goodman-Hill earns a best supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie.
The series has also nabbed nominations for best limited or anthology series, directing, writing, casting, contemporary costumes, music supervision and picture editing.
Award recognition won’t surprise viewers who closely followed the show and the subsequent fallout. The global phenomenon has become one of the streamer’s most popular shows of all time, accruing 56.6 million views within 26 days of its April 11 release. Exactly 30 years ago, Tom Hanks joined forces with Robert Zemeckis to create a film that would be etched in cinematic history forever — Forrest Gump. Sherry Lansing was at the top of Paramount at the time and the film was the biggest gamble during her time at the studio. Interestingly, the rights for the script based on Winston Groom’s book were owned by Warner Bros.

Horror director Eli Roth might be known as a purveyor of torture porn movies like "Hostel" and "Cabin Fever," but he has a soft side when it comes to animals. Speaking to Total Film about his holiday slasher "Thanksgiving," he confessed to having a problem with movies where a murder victim has a pet. "I can't enjoy the movie until I know someone's gonna feed that pet. Even though I know it's a story, I know it's not real. I'm like, but what about the cat?"
Roth has a pet of his own -- a French bulldog -- who gave him the inspiration he needed when pitching a "Borderlands" movie to Lionsgate. "Whenever I take her for a walk and she has to go to the bathroom, she won't let me look at her," Roth explains in the latest issue of SFX magazine. "I have to look away because she gets really shy.

In the 1970s, Dolly Parton toured with a number of other musicians as a way to build her fanbase and gain experience with her band. Some of these experiences were better than others. Parton’s band, for example, thought her tour with Willie Nelson was less than satisfactory. Her guitarist liked Parton’s tour with Mac Davis even less. He explained why he thought Davis and his band looked down on them.
Dolly Parton’s guitarist disliked the way one musician treated the band
When Parton fired her Travelin’ Family Band and hired a new group of musicians, people across Nashville bristled at the decision. To them, it represented Parton’s shift away from country music and onto the pop charts.

Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson have been friends since her early days in Nashville. The pair have collaborated over the years on music and television. They even toured Texas together in the 1970s. While Parton never had a problem with Nelson himself, the tour was not her best. Members of her band recalled the difficulty of the tour, and her guitarist said it was “dumb” to have even gone on it.
Dolly Parton’s band said her tour with Willie Nelson was a mistake
In the 1970s, Parton, who was trying to expand her reach as a solo artist, joined Nelson on a tour of his native Texas. The crowds they performed to were largely there to see Nelson. They talked, drank, and shouted for Nelson as Parton tried to perform. It was a challenge both for her and her band.

Cate Blanchett is well-aware that her starring in video-game adaptation “Borderlands” is more than a little unexpected.
The Oscar winner told Empire that leading Eli Roth’s action film was a way to escape her “Covid madness” of quarantine at the time.
“The crazy asks are usually the things I gravitate towards; the things I could never conceive of,” Blanchett said. “I think there also may have been a little Covid madness — I was spending a lot of time in the garden, using the chainsaw a little too freely. My husband said, ‘This film could save your life.'”
Blanchett prepared just as seriously for her role as Lillith, the leader of a ragtag group of space mercenaries, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, Arianna Greenblatt, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black, as she has for any role. Blanchett turned into a gamer just for the fully-meta experience of “Borderlands.”

Kevin Bacon is no stranger to the horror genre, having starred in hits like the original Friday the 13th, Tremors, Flatliners, and most recently, MaXXXine, the upcoming third film in Ti West's X trilogy. He counts himself as a fan of the genre and recently revealed to Film Updates that one of his favorite horror movies is the cult Japanese film Audition from director Takashi Miike, based on Ryu Murakami's 1997 novel of the same name.
Chatting with the outlet about the iconic film, Bacon revealed that he's always wanted to do an English-language version of the movie.
I really tried for a lot of years to to do an American version of it. We never really got it together. It was difficult for a lot of reasons. I was close [to making it] but we didn’t get it all the way. But that is a great movie. It would scare the shit out of [Debicki], who,...

For all that Cate Blanchett has done through her career – playing Elves, nefarious psychologists, maniacal music conductors and more – she’s rarely had the chance to go in all-guns-blazing. But that changes with Borderlands. Blanchett leads the cast of Eli Roth’s long-awaited video game adaptation, playing gun-toting space-outlaw Lilith – the leader of a ragtag crew on a deadly mission, heading to her home planet of Pandora. And as it turned out, it was something she enjoyed immensely. “The gun-slinging stuff was so much fun,” Blanchett tells Empire.
It might not be the sort of role you expect Blanchett to play. But that, she says, was part of the appeal. “The crazy asks are usually the things I gravitate towards; the things I could never conceive of,” she explains. “I think there also may have been a little Covid madness — I was spending a lot of time in the garden,...

Directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Eric Roth, the epic-sounding drama Here is getting an earlier, wider release than initially expected this November.
A reunion between director Robert Zemeckis, screenwriter Eric Roth and star Tom Hanks, the drama Here has been in the works for at least a couple of years now. Long scheduled to premiere in the US this November, it was initially thought that Zemeckis’ film would get a limited release on the 15th of that month before getting a wider release a week or two later.
There’s been a slight change of plans, however, with Sony announcing that Here will open wider and earlier: TriStar Pictures will put the film in cinemas across the US on the original date of its premiere, the 15th November.
It’s potentially a sign of Sony’s confidence in the film, which has a sterling pedigree behind it at any rate.

A Scottish woman, Fiona Harvey, accused Netflix of defamation and claimed that the streaming giant’s Baby Reindeer series caused her immense harm. Now, her lawyer claims she can’t even go to the grocery store due to the notoriety.
The 49-year-old alleges she is the inspiration behind the Netflix stalking drama and has sued the company for at least $170 million.
Based on the real-life experiences of comedian and writer Richard Gadd, the show depicts Martha Scott, played by Jessica Gunning, as a stalker who targets Gadd’s character after he offers her a free cup of tea in a pub where he works. However, Harvey’s legal team claims that the series has falsely portrayed her as a “twice convicted stalker who was sentenced to five years in prison,” which they argue is defamatory.

National Geographic’s “Life Below Zero” follows the everyday struggles of people living in the secluded state of Alaska. After 22 seasons on the air, executive producer and showrunner Joe Litzinger jokes, “It’s all Sue, just purely Sue.” He’s referring to one of the show’s biggest stars, Sue Aikens, who joins our panel along with producer Crofton Diack and editor Tanner Roth.
“We are fortunate that we have an incredible cast that hooked viewers from the very beginning,” he continues. “I think everyone wants to spend more time with them, on top of Alaska being an incredible visual. You can watch hours of Alaska footage alone.”
When asked if her love for a secluded lifestyle has been ruined by the show, Aikens responds, “No, I wouldn’t allow that, I’d just lock the door. The palpable amount of respect that the film crew gives me is what they do.

Dolly Parton met her best friend, Judy Ogle, when they were both children. They remained friends through school and into Parton’s years of fame, at which time Ogle joined her on the road. After a while, though, this started to cause problems between them. According to some close to the singer, Parton had to make the difficult decision to let her best friend go. Here’s how this impacted their relationship.
Dolly Parton had to tell her best friend they could no longer work together
In 1977, Ogle, who had been helping Parton keep her career in order, abruptly returned home. Members of Parton’s band weren’t sure if she’d quit, or if she’d been fired.
One member of Parton’s band heard Ogle quit because she was tired of life away from home. Others wondered if Ogle’s position had become superfluous when Parton signed with new management,...

Last year, New Regency went into production on a horror thriller called Psycho Killer, based on a screenplay written by Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Gavin Polone, producer of Zombieland and the Walker-scripted 8Mm, was at the helm of the film, with Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) and Logan Miller (Escape Room) in lead roles and 6’5″+ former professional wrestler James Preston Rogers in the title role. The film has since made its way through post-production, and FilmRatings.com reports that it has officially earned an R rating for strong bloody violence, strong
sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language. So this one is sounding quite promising.
Campbell is taking on the role of Jane Thorne, a police officer who makes it her mission to take down a serial killer referred to on the news as the ‘Satanic Slasher,’ following the murder of her state trooper husband.

Michael Anthony has opened up about his relationship with former Van Halen bandmate David Lee Roth. While the bassist insists he has nothing against the singer, he describes the frontman as “kind of a crazy guy.”
In July, Anthony will head out on the “Best of All Worlds” tour alongside Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, and Jason Bonham. The all-star outfit will be performing Van Halen songs from all eras of the band on the North American outing.

A couple years ago, a different tour honoring the late Eddie Van Halen was being planned that would have seen Anthony and Satriani playing alongside Roth and Alex Van Halen, with ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted also reported to be involved. That outing never materialized, and Anthony reveals he hasn’t spoken with Roth since.

Brad Pitt’s character ‘One Punch’ Mickey in the film Snatch had to be dirty, smelly, and scruffy and the actor was willing to go the extra mile for the demands of the character. The character was part of a gypsy-like group of Irish travelers and Pitt decided not to wash himself to get into the skin of his character. Interestingly, old habits die hard for Pitt, who reportedly found a way around having to wash himself regularly.
Snatch actor Brad Pitt went overboard with one unhygienic habit for the film
When starring in the Quentin Tarantino film Inglourious Basterds, Pitt gave a tip to co-star Eli Roth on how to avoid taking a shower and still look fresh. It appears that the star has broken his personal hygiene code too many times for his roles.

David Lee Roth has released the new song “Scotch and Sofa.” The track is the latest in a series of one-off singles from the Van Halen singer, and it might be the most eccentric of the bunch.
Laced with prominent horns, Dlr dabbles in a bit of salsa/disco on the song. There’s also a bit of the lounge-y cabaret vibes Diamond Dave has always had an affinity for. An Easter Egg for Van Halen fans comes in the form of his chorus delivery of “scotch and sofa” — which shares the same cadence as “hot for teacher.”
Roth shared the song on his YouTube channel under the title “Scotch and Sofa 4” but offered little else regarding its origin. Like his other recent post-“retirement” singles, the track might have came from recording sessions nearly a decade ago at Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood, California.
The recording sessions featured John 5 on guitar and bass,...

Eli Roth turned adapting the video game “Borderlands” into a mini film school for its young star Ariana Greenblatt.
Roth had Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis at his disposal in the space-set sci-fi adventure film, but it was “Barbie” breakout Greenblatt (also of “65” and “In the Heights”) who he says stole the feature. Roth called Greenblatt’s performance in his new film reminiscent of Natalie Portman’s turn in Luc Besson’s controversial crime thriller “Leon: The Professional.”
Pretty good company there.
As it turns out, “Leon: The Professional” is one of Greenblatt’s faves. The young actress (16 now, 13 when she auditioned for “Borderlands,” actually has quite the film palate considering her age. Especially now.
Roth assigned Greenblatt “My Dinner with Andre” to prepare for her “Borderlands” role — “just to fuck with her,” he added. But she dutifully watched it — and as Roth recalled, Greenblatt really dug “the dessert scene.

Over the past few years, one Hollywood mystery has been how the video game adaptation Borderlands managed to attract such a stacked A-list cast led by Cate Blanchett, given its raunchy, violent nature. At CinemaCon on Wednesday, director Eli Roth said the key to landing Blanchett, whom he said he decided to call on a whim, was not thinking she’d take the role.
“People love seeing you with a conductor stick, and I’m going to throw a flame thrower in her hand,” he recalled telling Blanchett, referencing her acclaimed work in Tár. To his surprise, Blanchett said the apocalyptic feature Escape From New York was among her favorite movies, and she was glad to join the project. From there, the rest fell into place.
Blanchett stars as Lilith, the leader of a crew of outlaws on a mission to retrieve treasure from a vault hidden on the planet.

Even Eli Roth can’t believe that two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett was willing to learn to twirl guns and shoot baddies in “Borderlands,” the director’s gonzo adaptation of the popular video game.
Roth noted that since people loved seeing Blanchett wield a baton in “Tár,” where she portrayed a fictional world-famous conductor embroiled in controversy, the filmmaker said he might as well “put a flamethrower in her hand.”
In “Borderlands,” Blanchett sports a fiery red bob and is surrounded by the starry ensemble of Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black and “Barbie” breakout Ariana Greenblatt. The story follows Blanchett as Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past. She reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora and forms an unexpected alliance to find the missing daughter of Atlas.

"Borderlands" is one of the most popular video game franchises of the 2000s. Now, it's becoming a movie, with Lionsgate hoping to turn it into a franchise for the big screen. Directed by Eli Roth, this video game adaptation has been in the works for a long, long time, but it's finally hitting theaters this summer. That being the case, the studio brought some new footage from the film to this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and I was on hand to see what Roth cooked up.
One thing the movie has going for it is a stellar A-list cast led by Cate Blanchett ("Thor: Ragnarok") as Lilith. The ensemble also includes Jack Black ("The Super Mario Bros. Movie"), Kevin Hart ("Lift"), Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween"), Ariana Greenblatt ("Barbie"), Florian Munteanu ("Creed II"), and Edgar Ramirez ("Yes Day"). Fill the cannons with stuffed animals and watch the fluff fly as Eli Roth’s Borderlands takes the Lionsgate stage at CinemaCon! The annual entertainment event is in full swing after yesterday’s Warner Bros. panel and reveal of Todd Phillips’s Joker: Folie à Deux trailer. With film and television fans fired up about upcoming releases, Lionsgate is ready to take them to a wasteland where kooky characters try to kill each other, and a fabled vault of riches awaits.
