Jiren’s power has always been a subject of fascination and speculation among Dragon Ball fans. Being considered one of the strongest mortals in the Dragon Ball universe, the source of his enormous power has always been shrouded in mystery. But a compelling theory by a fan offered a new insight into the origin of Jiren. This theory highlights Akira Toriyama’s subtle reference to a toxic DC couple in Dragon Ball, who are none other than Joker and Harley Quinn.

Joker: Folie à Deux is set to do something that Christopher Nolan would never have done with his iteration of the Joker in The Dark Knight. Director Todd Phillips talked to Empire Magazine about how he has chosen to approach his version of The Joker.

While the Joker in Nolan’s The Dark Knight leaned heavily into his criminal mastermind persona, something that Todd Phillips revealed he would be against doing with Arthur Fleck. This Joker had taken a different route and represented something else for the people of Gotham instead of a criminal psychopath.

Joaquin Phoenix has recalled Lady Gaga "spitting up coffee" when she first heard his singing voice on the set of 'Joker: Folie a Deux'.The 49-year-old actor reprises the role of Arthur Fleck/The Joker in the sequel and reflected on how he received vocal tips from the pop star turned actress - who stars as music therapist Lee/ Harley Quinn. In an interview with Empire magazine, Joaquin quipped: "I do seem to remember her spitting up coffee the first time I sang, so that felt good, that was exciting, and made me feel confident."Gaga was always very encouraging of just, 'Go with what you feel, it's fine.'"He added: "For somebody who's not a performer in that way, it can be... uncomfortable to do that, but also very exciting."Joaquin also explained that his mentally ill character's singing voice was intentionally imperfect. The Oscar-winning star said: "It...

Butch Lukic has been a fixture of the DC Animated Universe for decades and, in recent years, he's been tasked with overseeing the "Tomorrowverse" as an executive producer.
As a result, he's played a crucial role in all 10 of those direct-to-dvd features, starting with Superman: Man of Tomorrow and culminating with the recently released Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three. There's a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the future of these movies, but we were fortunate enough to once again catch up with Butch to discuss the newly released threequel.
During our conversation, we heard from the veteran producer about the late Kevin Conroy's emotional farewell to Batman, scrapped plans to faithfully adapt the Crisis on Infinite Earths comic, his favourite cameos and characters, and what might eventually follow the Tomorrowverse.
Butch also confirmed that there were early plans to take us back to the Young Justice Universe...

This article contains spoilers for The Boys season 4 episode 8.
Following in the footsteps of the baddie known as “Doppelganger, “it was only a matter of time before Prime Video‘s superhero satire The Boys introduced another shapeshifting character. That moment finally arrived in season 4’s penultimate episode “The Insider,” in which a chameleonic assassin took on the form of Annie January a.k.a. Starlight (Erin Moriarty).
In the finale,* the shapeshifter is thwarted in their mission to take down U.S. President-elect Robert Singer (Jim Beaver) by none other than the real Annie January herself. To put it mildly, embodying two characters involved in the same physical fight would is a bit of an acting challenge. The Dark Knight put a bold new spin on The Joker courtesy of a transformative take on the Clown Prince of Crime from the late Heath Ledger.
While Joaquin Phoenix came close to reaching the same heights as his predecessor (Suicide Squad star Jared Leto did not), no one has managed to top what Ledger did in the eyes of most DC fans.
Had the Oscar winner not died, he'd have reprised the role in The Dark Knight Rises. It's been said that it would have boiled down to little more than an Arkham Asylum-set cameo, though others believe he could have joined Bane in unleashing chaos on Gotham City.
Regardless, we now get a glimpse at what might have been thanks to a new Hot Toys figure which introduces "The Joker (Batman Imposter Version)."

In the history of cinema, there have been actors who have taken extreme measures to completely immerse themselves in their roles. As evidenced by Christian Bale’s 62-pound weight loss to play an emaciated insomniac in The Machinist and Shia Labeouf extracting his own tooth for Fury. However, Jeremy Strong may have elevated his method of acting to a whole new level.

Strong portrays the role of Kendall Roy in Succession, a well-acclaimed comedy-drama series. Although the actor’s performance on the show has received positive reviews, Bowen Yang on the other hand believes that Strong may have taken his method acting a bit too seriously.

Comic book casting has always been a mixed bag when it came to fan reactions. There have been great casting choices that have received a lot of backlash from fans, only to turn out to be one of the greatest casting decisions for not just a comic book adaptation, but for Hollywood in general.
Chris Evans in Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Fans of DC were miffed when Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker, which is now one of the most celebrated portrayals of the character. Similarly, when Fantastic Four alum Chris Evans was cast as Captain America, there were more naysayers than supporters, given that Evans apparently did not have the ‘look’ for Captain America.

What's the best Jack Nicholson movie? Ask a group of film fans, and you'll likely get a half-dozen different answers. The actor's most historically significant movie may be "Chinatown," the sun-baked California noir from 1974 that earned 11 Oscar nominations and a permanent spot in the American Library of Congress' National Film Registry. Or it might be "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," the beloved adaptation of Ken Kesey's novel that swept the Oscars in 1975 and turned the already-popular Nicholson into Hollywood's hottest commodity.
The actor's most popular films according to Letterboxd users are Stanley Kubrick's horror masterpiece "The Shining" and Martin Scorsese's crime saga "The Departed." His highest-grossing role at the box office came in 1989, when Tim Burton cast him as the rictus-grin supervillain The Joker in "Batman." Other popular moneymakers featuring the veteran performer include James L. Brooks' "As Good As It Gets," Nancy Meyers' "Something's Gotta Give,...

Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! Oh, never mind, it’s Kite Man. The bumbling villain with a heart of gold is coming to Max for a brand-new animated series in the Kite Man: Hell Yeah trailer. He is eager to make a new life for himself after his breakup with Pamela Isley, and what better way to wipe the slate clean than with a new attitude, a supportive partner, and a new business venture to reintroduce yourself to the criminal element?
In today’s Kite Man: Hell Yeah trailer, the dim-witted, weather-dependent villain tries to run a bar by himself, but that turns out not to be so easy. Created by Bill Finger and Dick Sprang, Kite Man, also known as Chuck Brown, has never been one of DC’s more menacing villains. Sure, he’s given Batman a headache or two,...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has addressed – with Spoilers – the ending to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.
Again, spoilers ahead!
If there’s one character in the Batman mythos who’s been a little underserved over the decades, it’s surely Robin. The Dark Knight’s trusty kid sidekick has often found himself sidelined when it comes to cinematic incarnations of the Caped Crusader.
There’s Burt Ward’s classic take which made it into the 1966 movie, although that was really just an extension of the TV show. Then there’s Chris O’ Donnell’s version of the character which appeared in Joel Schumacher’s two Batman films.
Along the way we’ve enjoyed far more appearances by other Gotham City mainstays such as Alfred, Catwoman, The Riddler and what seems like a million versions of The Joker.

The fourth season of The Boys premiered on June 13, 2024, with its initial three episodes. Initially, critics described the season as decent, though early ratings weren’t as high as previous seasons. However, over time, the season’s ratings have improved, reaching a Certified Fresh rating of 95%, which is impressive. Despite critical acclaim, fan reception seems mixed, with the season holding a lower audience score of 50%, marking the first time a season of the series has received a rotten audience score.

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
"That's their stuff, their business. They have a film in mind. I've already done it. I've done my Batman." Those were the words uttered by TV's Batman Adam West when asked about the casting of Michael Keaton in a new "Batman" film being put together by Warner Bros. in the late '80s. "Do you want the classic Coke, or do you want the new stuff? Maybe both." West suggests his hammy take on the DC Comics hero was Coke while Keaton would become New Coke. The only problem with West's metaphor is that, in this scenario, New Coke won the battle handily.

The best parody movies do a great job of mimicking other films. Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs got the look and feel of a Star Wars movie right, but Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill is nowhere to be seen. During an interview, Hamill explained why he didn’t appear in Brook’s space opera.
Mark Hamill wanted to be in Mel Brook’s ‘Spaceballs’
Hamill has played some iconic roles, such as The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series and Chucky in the remake of Child’s Play. However, he will always be associated with Star Wars first and foremost. He also appeared in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, a film that alludes to Star Wars in its title. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was directed by Kevin Smith, who has referenced Hamill’s signature franchise in his work on several occasions.

A ten-episode original series “Suicide Squad Isekai,” produced by Warner Bros. Japan’s Anime Production and Wit Studio, will premiere on HBO Go later this month.
The show is an anime (Japanese-style animation) adaptation spawned by the DC Comics universe. It places DC characters including Harley Quinn, The Joker, and the Suicide Squad in new stories. The Japanese word ‘Isekai’ translates into English as ‘another world.’
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. confirmed that it will be increasing the number of such anime adaptations in Asia.
“We have a Japanese anime studio, which has been producing five or ten anime series per year, over the last few years,” said James Gibbons, Wbd president of Asia-Pacific in March. “We’ve approved expansion to take that to more than ten series per year.”
The studio has been operational since 2011 and delivered over 80 titles in that span, a mix of high-quality anime, live action series and movies.

Update: James Gunn has responded and it seems we can write this particular rumour off as being incorrect.

A few months ago, The Batman 2 was pushed back by a whole year, raising more questions about how the "Elseworlds" movie will fit into DC Studios' wider plans for the Dcu.
While James Gunn has said out-of-continuity projects will continue to be made, it's still strange to think that The Batman sequel will have to compete with The Brave and the Bold, a Batman and Robin-led project featuring a different Dark Knight.
Still, The Batman was a hit for Warner Bros. in 2022 (it earned over $770 million) and they're the ones who have the final say, not DC Studios.

Mark Hamill is reuniting with Mike Flanagan for a future project, and according to the filmmaker, it could be the performance of a lifetime from the "Star Wars" star. Flanagan spoke briefly about working with Hamill during a panel at Austin's Atx festival recently, and /Film's Ryan Scott was there to report back.
The panel in question was titled "The Monologue Case Study," and it featured a closer look at some of writer-director Flanagan's most memorable, loquacious cinematic moments. At one point in the question and answer session, an attendee asked the "Midnight Mass" filmmaker if he's ever written monologues that he's later had to cut, and he admitted he has. "Mostly, with the writing, it's my fault," Flanagan said, noting that sometimes he realizes during the edit that a sequence is better with less explanation or commentary.
Luckily, that's apparently not the case with his unnamed upcoming collaboration with Hamill,...

Glen Murakami, who was heavily involved in the creation of Batman Beyond and Teen Titans, was also responsible for the animated series Beware the Batman, which famously brought some of Batman’s more obscure villains into the limelight.

While there have been a slew of Batman animated series, Beware the Batman came at the heels of greats such as Batman: The Animated Series and The New Adventures of Batman, and had the distinct responsibility of being different from these two, as Murakami did not want to retread what previous Batman shows had done.

The Dark Knight trilogy saw Gary Oldman step into the role of a good guy. This was a change of pace for the actor, who was used to playing villains throughout his career.
But when he looked at Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker, Oldman felt it wasn’t too unlike the characters he used to play himself in his younger years.

Out of all the roles he played, Oldman once admitted that he found portraying Commissioner Jim Gordon among his most difficult. Commissioner Gordon was as moral as they came in Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. But Oldman confided that playing someone so good was harder than it looked.
“The good guy, the incorruptible, straight as an arrow Jim Gordon,” Oldman once reflected on BBC Radio 1.

Fans of the DC superhero Batman have recently been looking for a hidden villain in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Starring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, the beloved film series introduced multiple adversaries of the superhero, from Scarecrow, The Joker, and Bane to the likes of Harvey Dent and Talia Al Ghul.

Earlier this week, we learned that iconic slasher Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise will be a playable character in Warner Bros. and Player First Games’ upcoming video game MultiVersus, a free-to-play platform fighter game that will be making its way out into the world on May 28th as “a free download for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), with full cross-play and cross-progression support.” Now Jason has gotten his own gameplay trailer, which can be seen in the embed above.
As a press release notes, this trailer show us that “Jason towers over the competition as a Tank class character with a scary moveset that incorporates his axe and machete weapons, teleporting ability to show up right behind opponents and stuff them into a sleeping bag, fatally folding a bed in half to launch enemies off the map,...

Batman: Caped Crusader will be the latest take on the Dark Knight of Gotham by DC Animation extraordinaire, Bruce Timm. Timm has been responsible for co-creating works like Batman: The Animated Series, The New Adventures of Batman, and Batman Beyond. But perhaps the most significant contribution the creator has made to the Batman mythos is the original character that he made for his adaptation of Batman, the ever whimsical villain-turned-ally for Batman, Harley Quinn.
Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series
Harleen Quinzel was a simple psychologist at Arkham Asylum when she was assigned to and fell in love with The Joker, who turned her into his loyal and adoring girlfriend, despite all the abuses he hurled at her over the course of their relationship.
Ever since then, the character has become somewhat of an icon in her own right, headlining her own animated show as well, while making multiple...

Although there were many Marvel allusions and homages in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it appears that one DC character escaped our notice. In the 2017 flick starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, an Easter egg as elusive as a superhero’s secret identity was cleverly tucked away by none other than Michael Keaton.
While embracing his role as the high-flying Vulture, Keaton delivered a subtle nod to his iconic portrayal of the caped crusader from Tim Burton’s Batman (1989). This hidden gem was discovered by an avid comic book enthusiast, who noticed that during a moonlit skirmish, Vulture’s winged silhouette briefly resembles Batman’s icon.

This fleeting moment might’ve been a conscious tribute or a happy coincidence, yet its existence is a delightful treat for those of us versed in the lore of both DC and Marvel.

Originally conceived as a standalone film without sequels, ‘Joker’ (2019) was intended to inaugurate DC Black, a series of darker and more experimental films distinct from the DC Extended Universe. Despite this, director Todd Phillips expressed interest in a sequel.
By November 2019, the sequel was officially confirmed to be in development. In 2023, Gunn confirmed that ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ would not be part of the mainline Dcu; instead, it would be released under the ‘Elseworlds’ label, aligning with Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ franchise.
The cast of the upcoming ‘Joker’ is set, with Joaquin Phoenix portraying Arthur Fleck, also known as The Joker, a mentally troubled criminal with a clown-inspired persona. Lady Gaga takes on the role of Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, an asylum inmate who becomes fixated on Arthur. Zazie Beetz plays Sophie Dumond, Arthur’s former neighbor, and a single mother. Back in November, Mark Hamill told fans at Fan Expo San Francisco that he would no longer be portraying the Clown Prince of Gotham.
Despite being considered by many to be the best Joker of all time, Hamill believed he just couldn't play the role unless it was opposite Kevin Conroy's Batman. Conroy, who voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman across several projects, passed away in November 2022.
But it seems there was a little caveat that allowed for Hamill to reprise the iconic villain role one final time in an upcoming game called MultiVersus. As it turns out, prior to his passing, Kevin Conroy also voiced Batman in the fighting game. It's perhaps for this reason that Hamill made an exception to his previous statement and returned to the role of Joker in the game.
For those unfamiliar, MultiVersus is a free-to-play platform fighter, in the same vein as Nintendo's Super Smash Bros.

The first full-length trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three has just hit (via Toonado.com), and it teases what looks to be a high-stakes finale to this animated trilogy (and the Tomorrowverse as we know it).
With the Anti-Monitor on the loose, a whole host of heroes assemble to save the Multiverse, but it looks like that will be easier said than done when they also have Lex Luthor to contend with. Several other villains are also spotted, including The Joker, Scarecrow, and Two-Face.
In terms of cameos, the trailer ends with another Batman: The Animated Series tease. Batman Beyond also appears, but perhaps the biggest surprise comes when we return to the world of the Super Friends!
The Saturday morning cartoon aired between 1973 and 1985 on ABC and was produced by Hanna-Barbera. That classic animation style returns here and we're hoping the movie has even...

The director of the first Doctor Strange movie is opening up about almost casting Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role.
The actor had been in early talks to bring the Marvel character to life, but months later it was revealed those talks were “dead.”
Of course, the role ended up going to Benedict Cumberbatch, who director Scott Derrickson was his first choice and he met with other actors after not thinking he would be able to get him.
Now, after Doctor Strange’s two solo movies and several appearances in the MCU, Scott is revealing why Joaquin never landed the role.

In 2022, teenagers flocked to cinemas dressed in suits and tuxedos, there to see and celebrate the Illumination film Minions: The Rise of Gru. It was part of a trend, apparently developed organically, called #GentleMinions, of young fans celebrating (some, perhaps ironically) the film franchise with which they grew up.
Universal, which distributed the film, was, suffice it to say, thrilled, and the film ultimately delivered more than $939 million at the box office.
This year, Illumination has another film in the franchise hitting theaters, Despicable Me 4, and the studio is once again betting on a dose of social media virality to kick-start its campaign, turning to an athlete known as “The Joker.”
On Saturday, Nikola Jokić, the star NBA center for the Denver Nuggets, arrived for the team’s playoff game against the Los Angeles Lakers dressed suspiciously like Gru, the franchise’s protagonist. It quickly went viral, with memes and jokes all over TikTok,...

The late actor Kevin Conroy gained worldwide recognition after he voiced the character of Batman in various animated media, starting with 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series. The actor-based his dual-voice performance for Batman on Leslie Howard in the movie The Scarlet Pimpernel. Kevin Conroy has portrayed the character longer than any other actor in live-action or animation.
Fans have always expressed how much they have admired Kevin Conroy’s work as Bruce Wayne and Batman on screen. It is not a rare sight to see video games often collaborating with cinematic and other similar franchises that focus on a similar genre in order to entertain a larger audience. The same was the case when an unexpected collaboration between Mortal Kombat and DC came back in 2008, leaving fans shocked but glad as they enjoyed fighting against some of the most known superheroes.
What would have made such collaboration even better would be an animated movie, which is something that was actually pitched to Warner Bros, or WB as they own the copyright and trademarks to the superheroes. This was unfortunately shot down, depriving fans of what could have been a great experience watching the movie.

Fans of Batman: The Animated Series (Btas) can expertly recall the show’s gritty, dark tone that distinguished it from other superhero animated series. Bruce Timm, the lead artist and co-creator of the show, is largely responsible for that due to his genius.
But did you know that Timm’s vision for the show was initially met with skepticism and resistance from censors? In fact, Fox’s strict guidelines fueled the producer’s creativity and increased the show’s scare factor. One of the key elements that set the acclaimed animated series apart was its depiction of violence.
As a kids’ program, the Batman Animated Series was not allowed to depict any particular kind of violence or action that younger viewers might attempt when it debuted on Fox in the early 1990s.

He continued to voice the character in animated series including The New Batman Adventures, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited.

WB Games makes two very criticized DC Comics games after selling millions of copies of Hogwarts Legacy. Fans have been infuriated by the representation of these characters in games like Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
This Rocksteady title did not even make it to the reviewers because the studio was aware that the score would add even more bad press to the already hated title. Aside from the lack of sales and the bad reputation, the studio is betting on more content for the game in the upcoming months, with new story missions that could change it all.
Several changes in the story are coming to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League The Flash will be very important in upcoming seasons of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
WB Games really needs a win with DC Comics games; the two latest superhero universe titles disappointed fans.

After a very poor launch the new Rocksteady title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, confirmed that it will keep releasing content. The first season is already live, with The Joker as a new playable character. The new season introduces additional elements to the game, such as the ability to explore Elseworlds, which are parallel universes within DC Comics.
According to some rumors and insiders, in season four of the game, Batman will be a playable character who comes from a medieval Elseworld. And Kevin Conroy apparently recorded dialog for the storyline before passing away in 2022.

Actor Heath Ledger died tragically young in 2008 at the age of 28. The loss of the actor at such a young age not only was a huge blow to his family, friends and fans, but also left a huge hole in film history since we will never know what the actor would have accomplished in his later years.
It makes his death even more tragic in a strange way in that Ledger just seemed to be hitting his stride as an actor. His performance as The Joker in “The Dark Knight,” released shortly after his death, brought him critical raves and a posthumous Oscar as Best Supporting Actor.
Ledger began acting as a teenager on television in his native Australia. A series of successful roles there and in a few Australian films led to him being cast in the American teenage comedy “10 Things I Hate About You.” With his teen idol good looks,...
