As many know, Blade is one of Marvel Studios’ most anticipated projects, set to bring the iconic antihero into the MCU. Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali is cast in the title role, with Mia Goth playing Lilith. Beyond this, details about the project are still emerging.
While we await the debut of the MCU’s Blade, the original Blade—Wesley Snipes—made a notable return in Deadpool & Wolverine. His cameo brought him back to one of his most famous roles, and, as expected, fans are thrilled to see Snipes reprise his role.
While reassurances about Mahershala Ali’s Blade movie continue, fans are already speculating about a potential backup plan. Should the project falter, many are advocating for Wesley Snipes to return as Blade. The Internet is buzzing with calls for the MCU to bring back the original Blade actor.

As everyone is aware, Blade is a highly anticipated Marvel Studios project that will introduce the well-known antihero to the MCU. Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali will play the title role in the film, and Mia Goth will play Lilith, and that is more or less what we know about this highly anticipated project.

And while everyone is reassuring us that Mahershala Ali’s Blade movie is still on track, the fans seem to have found a replacement in case that project falls apart, and – yes, you’ve guessed it – they want Snipes back in the role, as...

Even though MaXXXine is supposedly the last movie in the X trilogy helmed by Ti West and star Mia Goth, Bloody Disgusting is now reporting that "retro-style novelizations" of the three films are in the works, with the first one scheduled for release this September!
The books will be penned by Tim Waggoner, a Bram Stoker Award-winning author who has written many of these kinds of novelizations before, including the upcoming book version of Terrifier 2. Waggoner has also written novels for the Alien and Halloween franchise, specifically the Halloween Ends novelization and the story Alien: Prototype.
Apart from media tie-ins, Waggoner has written many original horror novels and YA books, as well as his writing help books, the Writing in the Dark series.
The first of his X trilogy novels starts with, obviously, X, an adaptation of the movie that started it all. It will be released on...

“MaXXXine” is a horror movie written and directed by Ti West starring Mia Goth. With Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan and Kevin Bacon.
The adventures of this most psychopathic and unbalanced girl come to an end with a film full of tributes to cinema in a film that exudes love for the seventh art everywhere.
A film that you will enjoy more the more cinephile you are and, if you have lived the eighties, the better. A profound tribute to cinema and the deep conviction of its author, Ti West, in his own talent.
A new kind of Quentin Tarantino who pays homage to everything, who seems to have seen it all and who, like Wes Craven, allows himself to make a self-aware horror film that ultimately reflects on horror cinema itself and, beyond that, on the art of filmmaking itself.
Funny, terrifying and fast-paced, a film that knows from the...

Mia Goth and Ti West are back with their highly anticipated third film in the X trilogy, MaXXXine. This gripping continuation is now new on digital streaming. The Harrowing Story Continues Released in theaters on July 5, MaXXXine continues to follow the tumultuous journey of Maxine Minx (Goth). Set in 1985, Maxine moves from being a porn star to securing a role in a mainstream slasher movie, Puritan II. This backdrop unfolds amid the real-life terror caused by the Night Stalker, a serial killer who haunted Los Angeles in the mid-1980s. A New Twist with Familiar Faces Adding to the...

Ti West and Mia Goth return with the final installation of the X trilogy, MaXXXine. Set during the period of 1980s, the film revolves around Maxine Minx’s journey from the adult entertainment industry to good old Hollywood. The only surviving member of the Texas massacre, Maxine was a headstrong girl determined to become a superstar, but someone was not happy with her progress. Visually, Ti West brings the 80s nostalgia to life. The bold colors, the punk fashion, the right-wing extremists campaigning against heavy metal, the home-video style footage, and the hunt for the Night Stalker taking over prime-time news—the first few minutes of MaXXXine are exciting. But unlike his previous works, X and Pearl, West fails to surprise this time. It is all too predictable, mediocre, and overall disappointing.
Spoiler Alert
Why were Maxine’s friends attacked?
With the Night Stalker on the loose, people were advised...

Director Ti West's conclusion to the "X" trilogy is coming home. West and star Mia Goth rounded out their decades-spanning horror trilogy this year with "MaXXXine," picking up a little while after "X" left off ("Pearl" was a prequel). The film brings the action to the '80s with Goth's Maxine Minx trying to fulfill her dream of becoming a star, and naturally, things get bloody along the way. For those who may have missed the retro, murderous trip through Hollywood, fear not! You can now watch the film from the comfort of home.
A24 has released "MaXXXine" on VOD following its successful run at the box office. The movie is now available through a variety of digital retailers such as Apple TV, Google Play, Fandango at Home, and Prime Video, among others. It is currently available to rent...

Netflix has several television and film selections from which to choose as we enter the last full month of summer. Several animated films like Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie (2024) and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (2012) provide a way to hold onto the season, especially with their focus on the ocean, summer sun and the environment.
Other films provide an escape from the back-to-school dread that some might be feeling, whether it be the Oscar-winning VFX in Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color or the antics in Migration, there are many options. Pearl even gives an early taste of all things spooky.

Does Ti West’s B-movie trilogy have any “A ideas” hidden underneath its layers of horror elements? MaXXXine dives deep into the psyche of aspiring stardom, capturing the essence of what it means to truly see oneself as an exceptional entity. Unlike simply desiring fame, Maxine Minx, played by the talented Mia Goth, embodies the belief that she is meant to be a star—a celestial body waiting for the universe to recognize her gravitational pull. In 2022, Ti West introduced us to X, a retro slasher that sprawled across the cinematic landscape with a troupe of circa-1979 pornographers who meet their...

The horror genre has seen its fair share of trilogies, but few have weaved narratives as compelling as Ti West’s ‘X’ trilogy which concludes with MaXXXine. Like its predecessors, this final film in the series delves deep into themes of exploitation, aging, and manipulation in Hollywood. Mia Goth’s Evolution According to West, Mia has brought something different to all of the different characters, and she sort of evolved as a person and as a performer, just as we all have. Goth’s portrayal of Maxine Minx stands out for its depth and nuance. Her character has transformed, from an aspiring starlet...

It was almost exactly five years ago at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 that Marvel announced they were inviting Blade into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a brand new reboot movie, with Mahershala Ali attached to star as the title character. Five years later, well, Marvel’s planned Blade movie has still never even found its way in front of the cameras.
It’s no secret that the brand new Blade movie has been bumped all over the release calendar the last couple years, currently set for theatrical release on November 7, 2025. But the movie is without a director at the moment, with Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country”) departing the project in the wake of Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) exiting the film back in 2022.
In a new chat with BlackTree TV this week, fittingly ahead of San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige gives us a minor update on the Blade project.
The good news?...

Marvel Studios is just a few days away from releasing its first R-rated superhero movie within the MCU, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” but for even longer, we expected the first R-rated Marvel movie to hit theaters would be its reboot of “Blade” starring Mahershala Ali.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige first announced a “Blade” reboot back in 2019 with Ali attached to star, and the character was even teased in the post-credits of 2021’s “Eternals,” a would-be franchise that now seems forgotten.
“Blade” has been through many starts and stops, with several writers and directors filtering through and with delays because of the writers strike and more. Through it all, the franchise’s original stars Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff haven’t refrained from talking about it.
But Feige in an interview over the weekend ahead of “Deadpool & Wolverine” gave a short update about the status of “Blade.”

Ti West’s B-movie trilogy has explored many themes, but does it truly capture the essence of high concepts? The series began with ‘X,’ introducing viewers to Maxine Minx (Mia Goth) and her journey in the adult film industry. A parallel storyline featured the elderly and homicidal Pearl, both characters played by Mia Goth. Maxine’s iconic line in the mirror, ‘I’m a f***in sex symbol’, encapsulated her self-perception and ambition. The sequel, ‘Pearl,’ shifted the focus to a young version of Pearl set in 1918. The complex portrayal of Pearl wasn’t just about horror—Goth’s performance stepped into deeper emotional territory. Her...

Ti Wests Exploration of Stardom and Horror One of the more intriguing aspects of Ti West’s trilogy centers around the notion of stardom. The journey explores what it means to see oneself as exceptional, waiting for the world to recognize it. This theme is prominently displayed in the first film, X, where Maxine Minx (Mia Goth) declares I’m a fuckin sex symbol. This self-belief resonates deeply throughout the trilogy, depicting a cycle of ambition and recognition. From Erotic Envy to Bloody Aspirations The transition from X to its prequel, Pearl, adds depth to the narrative. Released just six months after...

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but now we’ve reached the five year anniversary of that announcement, and we still haven’t seen a new Blade movie. The closest we’ve gotten is Ali making a vocal cameo as the character at the end of Eternals back in 2021. Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige is currently doing the press rounds for the latest addition to the MCU, Deadpool & Wolverine, and while speaking with BlackTreeTV, Feige said they’re taking their time on this project to make sure they’re making the right Blade movie.

In some recent interviews, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige gave updates on the new Blade movie and addressed concerns about delays. Blade, the vampire hunter famous from the old Wesley Snipes movies, is joining the Marvel superheroes!
But the project has hit some snags, like changes in directors and the release date getting pushed back two years. Feige said the most important thing is not rushing it and making sure they do the character of Blade justice. He wants to take their time to get it right.
One big revelation is that the new Blade will likely keep the R-rating like Deadpool did. Feige pointed out Blade’s past movies were all R-rated too, so that fits with the character. This shows Marvel wants to stay true to what made Blade popular originally.
Even with setbacks, Feige said things are starting to come together. A new writer is working on...

After Wesley Snipes’ Blade trilogy, Marvel Studios regained the rights to the character and started working on a script in 2013. In 2019, Kevin Feige announced the Blade film with Mahershala Ali in the lead role at San Diego Comic-Con. The film ran into several behind-the-scenes issues, with multiple changes in writers and directors. In a recent interview, Feige gave the latest update on the film.

The Marvel Boss shared that the studio was very much committed to the project. However, fans might be a little disappointed as he may have shut down one rumor about the film. When asked if Snipes was part of the project, Feige shared that the film was all about Ali’s Blade.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has insisted the 'Blade' reboot is taking a long time because the team doesn't want it to be "rushed".The original movie starring Wesley Snipes - based on Marvel's vampire-slaying superhero - was released in 1998 and spawned two sequels and a TV series and now the studio is attempting to bring it back to life for a new generation but the production has suffered numerous setbacks and its planned release date was pushed back by two years. Now Feige has claimed the team are just treading carefully and making sure the project isn't rushed out. He told BlackTree TV: "For the last two years as we’ve been trying to crack that movie, the most important thing for us is not rushing it and making sure we are making the right ‘Blade’ movie."He went on to insist the team plans to...

MCU boss Kevin Feige has offered a few thoughts on the state of Marvel Studio’s troubled production, Blade.
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has suffered a rocky few years, there’s definitely signs of life for the future.
Deadpool & Wolverine releases this week and could well do the kind of box office numbers of old, while a movie based on The Fantastic Four, one of the studio’s best-known properties is shooting this summer.
The company has also finally cleared up its disagreement with Sony about the creative direction for Spider-Man, and given how well fans have responded to Marvel’s take on that character, hopefully that signals another successful entry is on the way. A script is due to land on Kevin Feige’s desk in the near future.

Despite the country cooling down slightly this weekend temperature-wise, moviegoers still flocked into theaters for the latest weather-related disaster film, which harked back to a previous blockbuster from the ’90s. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Universal and Warner Bros.’ “Twisters,” directed by Lee Isaac Chung (“Minari”) and starring Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos, came into the weekend with solid advance reviews at 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. Universal released the movie into 4,151 theaters on Friday, but by then, it had already amassed $10.7 million in Thursday previews with $2.7 million of that coming from Wednesday showings. The action sequel made $32.2 million on Friday (including those previews), and Universal is estimating an $80.5 million weekend for “Twisters,” which is well ahead of even the loftiest of predictions for the action sequel, putting it just ahead of “Godzilla X Kong” and just behind “Dune: Part 2” as far as the year’s big openers.

There's been very little in the way of good news, ever since Mahershala Ali walked on stage during Marvel Studios' 2019 San Diego Comic-Con panel to reveal to the world that he would be playing Blade in the MCU.
Since then, the project has undergone several script rewrites and seen several directors sign on and ultimately depart- along with a few of the film's cast.
However, in a new interview with BlackTreeTV, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige seemed confident that Blade would make its way to the big screen one day, confirming that like the Wesley Snipe films that preceded it, the McU's Blade will also be rated R.
Responding to a question about the film's rating, Feige stated, "For the last few years, we've been trying to crack that movie."

The Fangoria Chainsaw Awards are back this year and bigger than ever.
Once again airing on AMC’s Shudder, the 2024 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards has shifted the annual awards show’s shift to October; as such, the window of this year’s eligible horrors is an expanded one, encompassing all of 2023 and the first half of 2024. That means a much bigger selection of horror titles to pull from, and with the expanded categories this year, that means a massive list of 46 nominees. They even have a new category this year: Best Video Game.
Here’s where you come in; Fangoria needs your vote to decide on the winners! We have it on good authority that some of the categories are extremely competitive right now. And voting happens to be officially open for the awards show.
Participants can cast their votes via the official Fangoria website at www.fangoria.com/vote/. Voting...

James Gunn announced on Threads that “Superman” is getting closer to the end of filming after the cast and crew wrapped a six-week shoot in Cleveland. The writer-director stressed that “we are not done shooting” and there’s “still a couple weeks left,” adding: “It’s a long shoot…but we’re getting close!!” Prior to Cleveland, Gunn and his “Superman” cast kicked off production in Atlanta.

The fun thing about the box office is that it always has the potential to throw a few surprises our way, and that’s exactly what happened on this hot and humid mid-July weekend. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Universal’s animated sequel, “Despicable Me 4,” remained in the top spot at the box office this weekend with an estimated $44.7 million, down 40% from its 4th of July opening weekend, bringing its domestic total to $211.1 million. It added another $88 million internationally in 78 markets for an overseas total of $226.7 million and $437.8 million globally. The X trilogy is ever a love letter to cinema. Though the first installment is built around a cluster of young people making pornography, it still highlights its love to the craft of filmmaking by having characters directly refer to the art and also by being set in the late-70s and dressed up in that era’s horror aesthetic. While various crafts are highlighted, the series makes a lot of room for the art of painting faces for a collection of effects. With MaXXXine, the third installment in the Ti West and Mia Goth franchise, now gracing the silver screen, the love for classic eras of cinema is ever palpable. Within that is the love for all things cinema makeup, beauty and FX.
X was perhaps unassuming when it snuck up on 2022 audiences with its distinct 70s look. It didn’t at all lack period appropriate hairstyles and eyewear.

Now showing, this week’s film quiz features questions on animated heroes, real-life villains, and fictional movies within movies.
There are a couple of movies about making movies out now – MaXXXine sees Mia Goth’s aspiring movie star bag a role in a 1980s horror sequel, while Fly Me To The Moon has Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum stage moon-landing footage as a Plan B for NASA in 1969. Accordingly, this week’s film quiz has a whole round on fictional films within real films – think more The Purple Rose Of Cairo in The Purple Rose Of Cairo than “Argo”in Argo.
Once you’ve completed all three rounds, you’ll find a link to a separate post with the correct answers at the bottom of this post. As always, this is all just for fun, but please let us know how you did in the comments (scores out of 30 this week!

When we think about legendary Scream Queens from the world of horror, it’s usually iconic final girls or empowered assassins who jump to mind – women like Jamie Lee Curtis and Sarah Michelle Gellar most associated with an iconic role despite a multitude of successful genre titles in their extensive catalog. While these beloved actresses will always be part of the horror landscape, newer Scream Queens have begun to diversify. Anya Taylor-Joy and Mia Goth have both broken their horror bones in a variety of outstanding genre films and continue to surprise us with unexpected roles. But of the many young actresses vying for Modern Scream Queen status, one woman rises to the top of the list.

In an online report, James Hunter has provided new details regarding his lawsuit against “MaXXXine” star Mia Goth, director Ti West and A24 alleging that Goth kicked him in the head while he was performing as a background actor on the set of the horror film.
In his original complaint, Hunter claimed that he informed the film’s second assistant director that Goth nearly stepped on him during a scene in which he had to lay down on the ground while Goth ran past him. In the next take, Hunter alleges that Goth intentionally kicked him in the head, causing him a concussion, and then “taunted, mocked and belittled him” when Hunter went to use the bathroom.
In a new interview with horror news site Dread Central, Hunter provided more specific detail about this encounter with Goth. He alleges that Goth followed him to a porta-potty in a remote restroom area,...

Beginning in March 2022, Ti West and Mia Goth have unfolded a decades-spanning saga with what’s commonly referred to as the “X Trilogy,” which of course kicked off with 1970s-set slasher X and continued with the 1918-set prequel Pearl and now the 1980s-set MaXXXine.
It’s of course extremely uncommon to get an entire trilogy of movies in just over two years, but what’s also incredibly unique about Ti West’s trilogy is that each film is a completely different beast altogether. The movies may not be massive box office hits but they’ve damn sure made their mark on pop culture, and they’ve even caught the attention of an all-time cinema great.

Stars: Mia Goth, Halsey, Lily Collins, Elizabeth Debicki, Kevin Bacon, Halsey | Written and Directed by Ti West
Picking up six years after the events of X, Maxine Minx has hit the big time as an adult entertainment star. Looking to make her start as a bonafide actress, she hits Hollywood — but California in 1985 is also the home of the eponymous serial killer, the Night Stalker. As he makes his mark on Western America, Maxine’s old wounds come back to the surface… and all is not as it seems.
When 1970s slasher romp X landed on screens, it was largely a hit with critics and viewers alike. The surprise of prequel Pearl already being in production only exacerbated the positive vibes, offering a completely difference perspective not only on West’s vision but also Goth’s horror queen chops. In Moses Sumney’s first film acting role, he dies onscreen. That’s not so much a spoiler as it is an inevitability; the movie is MaXXXine, the final installment of Ti West’s beloved Mia Goth-starring horror trilogy from which nobody makes it out alive.
Sumney plays Leon, a Hollywood Boulevard video store employee and the closest thing to a best friend that Goth’s Maxine Minx has ever experienced. The story, which follows Minx as she attempts to catapult her porn career into Hollywood stardom, plays out as The Night Stalker — a real-life serial killer from the 1980s — terrorizes Los Angeles and seemingly starts to hunt down Maxine’s own circle. It’s a dream role for any actor building up their career, but Sumney — who self-deprecatingly describes himself as “very indecisive,” but in actuality seems to lean more contemplative and careful — admits he hesitated at first...

Martin Scorsese is a longtime fan of indie filmmaker Ti West.
Scorsese penned a letter to the New York Times to applaud West’s “X” trilogy which recently concluded with “MaXXXine.” Mia Goth starred in all three films as both characters Maxine and Pearl, with each feature taking place in a different decade. West deployed the popular aesthetics for each respective era for the trio of films, as Scorsese explains.
According to the Oscar-winning filmmaker, West’s “X” films all embody a “different type of horror, related to different eras in American moviemaking.”
The first feature “X” is “the ’70s, the slasher era,” as Scorsese wrote. Meanwhile, prequel “Pearl” showcases the “’50s melodrama in vivid saturated color,” while “MaXXXine” captured the “’80s Hollywood, rancid, desperate” onscreen.
The films are “three linked stories set within three different moments in movie culture, reflecting back on the greater culture,” as Scorsese penned.

One of the standout scenes in director Ti West’s X and Pearl sequel MaXXXine (which is in theatres now) shows the character played by Mia Goth getting a life cast / head mold – which, as it turns out, is something Goth has had plenty of real-life experience with. Not only did she spend the day getting plaster spread across her face for the filming of that MaXXXine scene, but she also had to get a life cast done for the creation of the “old Pearl” makeup she wore in X, had another life cast done for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Blade reboot, and had a digital body scan done for Guillermo del Toro’s version of Frankenstein.
In a video breakdown of the MaXXXine life cast scene, Goth reminisced about her X life cast experience: “I did it for X when we were creating the mold for old Pearl,...

MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl and X, is now in theatres – and if you’re interested in getting some behind-the-scenes information on one of the scenes, Vanity Fair has just released a promo video in which West and franchise star Mia Goth break down the scene where Goth’s character Maxine Minx has an unpleasant experience while getting a life cast / head mold done. It’s an interesting video that has West and Goth discussing the scene, MaXXXine, and the overall franchise for twelve minutes. Check it out in the embed above!
MaXXXine was written and directed by West. Mia Goth reprises the role of X survivor Maxine Minx, a burlesque performer and adult film actress with the goal of being a star. The film has the following synopsis: In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break.

It hasn't been a blockbuster year for horror at the box office in 2024, but A24 and director Ti West just delivered a solid little debut with "MaXXXine." Building off of the success of "X" and "Pearl" in 2022, West's trilogy centered on Mia Goth's Maxine Minx has come to a close on a high note: The latest entry opened higher than either of the previous films by a pretty significant margin. While that's still small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, a win is a win.
"MaXXXine" opened to $6.7 million domestically over the weekend, landing at number four on the charts, with "Inside Out 2" ($30.3 million) and "Despicable Me 4" ($75 million) owning the lion's share of the attention from moviegoers. But horror fans still turned out to see what West and Goth had cooked up, with the film pulling in another $1.1 million overseas for a $7.8 million global debut.

The end of the Maxxxine trilogy lands in theaters this weekend. The trilogy of horror films explores generational journies of starlets and women reaching for superstardom. How they find that success varies greatly, from infamy to adult films and even iconic roles in B-movies. Ti West and Mia Goth collaborated to write Pearl while waiting to shoot X, while West wrote each of the other stories. With that much control over the franchise, we’ve assembled nine movies that inspired the horror showcases.
The Movies That Influenced X The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
The most obvious influence on X comes from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The 1974 horror classic not only broke the mold of what was possible in the genre. It also helped define a specific aesthetic that would be borrowed, recycled, and reused for years. Many grindhouse movies, including Ti West, Rob Zombie, and others, openly crib off The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The only award season that matters is here! Joking (kind of), but seriously, Fangoria just released the complete list of nominees for the 2024 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards. Considering how often horror gets shut out of the mainstream award shows, it's nice to have at least one thing we can rely on year after year.
Last year's Chainsaw Awards included big wins for movies like The Black Phone, Terrifier 2, and Prey. This time, the categories are again stacked, with films like Abigail, Evil Dead Rise, The First Omen, Talk To Me, Late Night with the Devil, and many more going head to head.
Specific performances are also being highlighted, like Tobin Bell in Saw X and Kathryn Newton for both Lisa Frankenstein and Abigail. It's been a fantastic few years for horror, and it'll be exciting to see which movies pull ahead this time around.
