Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio were among the bunch of actors who got their breakthrough in the 90s with many acclaimed performances. DiCaprio starred in some of his most seminal work in the decade with films like What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, This Boy’s Life, and Romeo + Juliet. He also delivered the biggest commercial hit of his career with 1997’s Titanic.

The family of Isaac Hayes is threatening to sue Donald Trump’s campaign over what they say is the unauthorized use of the song “Hold On, I’m Coming” at rallies.
The family posted a legal letter from an attorney to the campaign, demanding that it stop using the work, which Hayes co-wrote with David Porter and was originally recorded by Sam & Dave in 1966.
The family’s attorney, James Walker, claims that the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee “have willfully and brazenly engaged in copyright infringement” by using the song at rallies “over one hundred times.” They are demanding payment of at least $3 million, plus a removal of all videos featuring the song and a statement that Hayes’ family and estate never authorized its use. Walker wrote that the Trump campaign also “have not obtained a license or other authorization” to use the song.

If money is the root of all evil, the following movies are the baddest of the bad. These money-making behemoths are the only ones in U.S. history to have crossed the $500 million mark at the domestic box office. Among them are all three of the most recent “Star Wars” episodes plus a whole collection of Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks.
There is exactly one original film in the line-up (“Avatar”) and only a single true story (“Titanic”), and both just happen to be directed by James Cameron. The rest of the films, as you’d expect, are reboots, remakes and sequels. One of most recent additions is Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” (2023), which is the most successful film to ever be directed by a woman.
Scroll through our gallery below for a closer look at the box office all time domestic top-grossing movies, not adjusted for inflation. Gallery updated August 2024.

Celine Dion has denounced the use of her song “My Heart Will Go On” by Donald Trump during a president campaign rally in Montana on Friday night.
“In no way is this use authorized and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use,” noted a statement released on Saturday.
Dion concluded her statement by questioning the wisdom of the song choice, given that it famously soundtracks James Cameron’s Titanic, a movie about a sinking ship. “…And really, That song?” she remarked. Perhaps Trump is resigned to his fate in a head-to-head matchup against Kamala Harris.
Last month, Dion her live comeback, performing Edith Piaf’s “L’Hymne à l’amour” at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The singer has faced a series of health challenges in recent years due to her ongoing battle with stiff-person syndrome.

With three Academy Awards and some of the biggest box office champs of all time under his belt, James Cameron has certainly found a way to blend art and commerce to great effect. Let’s take a look back at all nine of his films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1954 in Ontario, Canada, Cameron cut his teeth with a variety of on-set jobs, most notably as a special effects artist. Although he technically made his directorial debut with the creature feature “Piranha II: The Spawning” (1982), he truly burst onto the scene with the sci-fi hit “The Terminator” (1982), which cast Arnold Schwarzenegger as a futuristic cyborg sent on a mission to kill a young woman (Linda Hamilton) before she can give birth to the messiah.
Cameron further cemented his reputation as a master of action with such adrenaline-pumping titles as “Aliens” (1986), “The Abyss” (1989), “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” (1991) and “True Lies...

Donald Trump’s rally in Montana Friday sparked a strong social media reaction after Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ – her Oscar-winning song from Titanic – was blared out from the speakers shortly before the presidential hopeful took to the stage.
The Daily Mail reports that the irony of an ode to a sinking ship being played at the event was not lost on observers, many of whom took to social media, one even asking if Trump’s team had a mole from Kamala Harris’s side, intent on trolling Trump with the choice of song.
This raises the question of whether the campaign has the rights, owned by 20th Century Fox, to use the song publicly. Update: The Grammy-winning singer’s management team and record label Sony Music Entertainment Canada issued a statement Saturday, making it clear that “in no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion...

Kate Winslet wanted her Lee Miller biopic to be as real as possible.
The actress, who also produces the WWII-set indie, portrays former model turned war correspondent and photographer Miller in “Lee.” Winslet told Harper’s Bazaar U.K. that she deliberately wanted to showcase her real body and not hide her “belly rolls” while in character.
“There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini,” Winslet said. “And one of the crew came up between takes and said, ‘You might want to sit up straighter.’ So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life! It was deliberate, you know?”
Winslet added that she takes “pride” in her aging process.
“It is my life on my face, and that matters,” the Oscar winner said. “It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up. I think people know better than to say,...

Some people think Leonardo DiCaprio became a star when he acted in James Cameron’s Titanic. Others believe his stardom predated that movie when he starred opposite Claire Danes in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet. However, the movie that made him an up-and-comer is a film that seems to have been all but erased from his filmography: the 1995 drama The Basketball Diaries, a movie that teamed him with a young Mark Wahlberg, earned good reviews and became a VHS cult hit among teens of the nineties. Yet, it’s a tough film to find unless you’re willing to shell out big bucks for the long, out-of-print Blu-ray (never released in the U.S) or an old-school DVD. You won’t find it on streaming, and it remains an oddly obscure film considering how popular it was in the nineties. What gives?

Film historians agree that computer-generated imagery (CGI) was first used in a motion picture as far back as Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo (1958), which utilized abstract computer animation under its opening credits. Of course that’s not immediately what comes to mind when we think of CGI (or just plain CG) today: the earliest, crude instances of the kind of CG that dominates modern filmmaking were first seen in Westworld (1973), Star Wars, Looker (1981), the groundbreaking Tron (1982), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), and The Last Starfighter (1984).
But the first genuine leap in using CG to animate and incorporate photorealistic three-dimensional objects into live-action came in James Cameron’s The Abyss (1989) via the creation of the alien pseudopod made out of digital ocean water. The techniques developed by Industrial Light and Magic for that film blew open the doors to the true CG revolution in cinema, which began in the 1990s...

While promoting Borderlands, Cate Blanchett said she “basically got free sandwiches” as payment for Lord Of The Rings. More on the story below.
Back in the early-2000s, Peter Jackson’s The Lord Of The Rings trilogy was one of the most expensive and ambitious projects ever committed to film. The three films’ budgets combined were a whopping $281m, which is over $500m in today’s money adjusted for inflation.
It seems that not much of that budget went towards the cast’s wages. Cate Blanchett, who is currently promoting her new video game adaptation Borderlands, told host Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live (picked up by Variety) that “no one got paid anything” for the films.
When Cohen suggested Lord Of The Rings were Blanchett’s highest paying films, the actress quickly denied this.
“Are you kidding me?” the actress said. “No, no one got paid anything to do that movie.

“The Lord of the Rings” is the most successful film series in the history of the Academy Awards, winning 17 Oscars including two Best Picture awards out of 30 total nominations.
Both “The Fellowship of the Ring” and “The Return of the King” won Best Picture while Peter Jackson won Best Director for the latter movie, which holds the joint record for most Oscar wins of all time with 11 victories (the same number as “Ben-Hur” and “Titanic”). However, the lauded trilogy only received one acting citation — that was for Ian McKellen for Best Supporting Actor for “The Fellowship of the Ring.”
But while the Oscars didn’t nominate nearly enough actors in this trilogy (shout out to Andy Serkis), “The Lord of the Rings” cast is full of incredible actors who have received multiple awards nominations for other projects. Considering it is Emmys season, we’re going to focus on Emmys.

“Kate Winslet is a true icon of cinema and shines through her versatility in big studio blockbusters as well as small indie productions. Her multifaceted choice of roles and her long Hollywood career make her a favourite with audiences of multiple generations,” said Zff Artistic Director Christian Jungen.

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most recognized stars in the world after he starred in multiple blockbusters such as Titanic, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Inception. The actor is the recipient of the Oscar for Best Actor, which he received in 2016 after multiple snubs, and is often regarded as one of the best actors of the generation.
Recently, a lookalike of the actor went viral on social media due to his uncanny resemblance to the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor. The video can be seen in the Russian model Anastasyia Queen’s Instagram which sees the actor in a look that he sported in films like Inception and Shutter Island.

There is no doubt that Lily Gladstone has had quite a year. From her Oscar nomination earlier this year to her stint with the Emmys, the actress has managed to build up a rare and interesting resume, one that even Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence have not been able to secure with their long and storied career.
Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon / Paramount Pictures
While there are multiple actors who have secured an Emmy and Oscar nomination, it is rare that actors receive these two honors in the same year, which is the case for Lily Gladstone. She was the first Native American actress to be nominated for an Academy Award in the history of the Academy. Along with fellow Emmy nominee Kali Reiss, the actress was also one of the first Indigenous women to receive the honor.

Classic rock bands often had their biggest hits when they branched out into other genres. For example, Aerosmith’s only No. 1 song was a shift in sound and subject matter from their earlier music. During an interview, Steven Tyler revealed that he was shocked that his band had only one No. 1 song.
Aerosmith’s only No. 1 song was part of a dead 1990s trend
During a 2015 interview with PopMatters, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton was asked if sex was the primary theme of Aerosmith’s music. “It is actually,” he said. “When we were young, we had these guitars that were like … lust weapons. You went out there as a way to impress women and get them to notice you. That’s still there now: you always want to be admired by the opposite sex. There’s a lot of symbolism in Aerosmith. The whole thing’s a big metaphor.”

There is no one in the country right now who does not know of SS Rajamouli and the films he has made. For those who don’t know, SS Rajamouli is the director of the fantastic Bahubali movies, the genre-bending Eega, and the very popular fantasy fiction flicks Rrr and Magadheera. Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli is the first episode that was released on 2nd August 2024 on Netflix. Produced by Film Companion Studios headed by Anupama Chopra, their maiden venture is great tool for understanding the visionary Indian directors and other technicians who make movie watching a magical experience.
The documentary is a small but significant one, and in the span of one hour and fourteen minutes, it ends up describing a lot of SS Rajamouli as a person on and off the set. There is a lot to uncover and discover about the man who has delivered back-to-back hits with...

So many people in Hollywood knew about industry warthog Harvey Weinstein’s disgusting, illegal behavior behind the scenes but so few actually confronted him about it. There is the famous story of Brad Pitt defending Gwyneth Paltrow when she was coming up but those are few and far between. But only one man has ever come close to bashing Harvey Weinstein over the head with an Oscar statue he so desperately wanted: the King of the World himself that year, James Cameron.
On Oscar night 1998, James Cameron and Harvey Weinstein found themselves competing at the Shrine Auditorium, with the director there with odds-on favorite Titanic and Weinstein supporting the Miramax-supported Good Will Hunting. Titanic got off to the strong start it would carry for the rest of the night, while Good Will Hunting would nab only two statues. With Titanic having just won Best Editing, Cameron was about to...

Some singers get sick of their own music very quickly. On the other hand, Celine Dion wanted to sing one of her songs a thousand times because she loved it so much. Critics fell in love with the track.
1 Celine Dion song is like listening to a whole musical in 7 minutes
During a 1996 interview posted on her YouTube channel, Dion discussed her tune “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” “I don’t know how many times I’ll have to sing this song before it’s over,” she said. “I hope it will never be over.
“[Music video director] Nigel [Dick] asked me to sing it a thousand times,” she added. “I will do it, because this song is part of me. It has a special place in my heart, and I will sing it for the rest of my life. And I hope I’ll get to sing it more than a thousand times.

A lot of 1990s top 40 music doesn’t get enough respect. Celine Dion’s hits were more varied and exciting than her critics acknowledge. One of her No. 1 hits was a collaboration with one of the most infamous musicians ever. Another inspired its writer to eat a lot of French fries.
4. ‘I’m Your Angel’
It’s hard for anyone to sympathize with R. Kelly these days. Of course, there will always be people who want to separate the art from the artist. Those people will tell me that I should judge “I’m Your Angel” on its merits as a song.
And I will! “I’m Your Angel” is a bad easy-listening song. It doesn’t have the glorious melodrama of Dion’s best songs or the sleek R&b of Kelly’s classics. Kelly’s music is probably going to be placed in the dustbin of history. Who cares?...

No one would accuse Hollywood of being rife with level-headed, even-tempered, morally upstanding types. As a result, it’s a rare film set that’s above a little sabotage. These are mostly sad BoJack Horseman-y outmaneuverings, but occasionally, they’re just hilarious.
5 The Studio Did Everything They Could to Not Cast Jeff Daniels in ‘Dumb and Dumber’
In the early ‘90s, Jeff Daniels was known exclusively as a dramatic actor, so when Jim Carrey and the Farrelly Brothers declared him their choice to play Dumb to Carrey’s Dumber, the studio freaked. They decided to offer him the insultingly low salary of $50,000 — in comparison, Carrey got $7 million — sure that he would turn it down. When he didn’t, they spent the first week filming only his scenes without Carrey, expecting to have to replace him. Of course, they didn’t have to, because Daniels somehow didn’t let all that...

Some of the best music was inspired by literature. For example, Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” is as over-the-top as a Victorian melodrama. That makes sense, considering it’s based on a classic novel from the Victorian era. Dion’s song makes a few changes to the book in question.

Jim Steinman was behind many Meat Loaf songs. During an interview on his website, Steinman discussed the origins of “It’s All Coming Back to Me.” “‘It’s All Coming Back to Me Now’ is my attempt to write the most passionate, romantic song I could ever write,” he said. “I was writing it while under the influence of Wuthering Heights, which is one of my favorite books.” Wuthering Heights is a Gothic novel by Emily Brontë...

“Inside Out 2” has just made the top ten movie list. After hitting a $1.524 billion global box office total, the film is not in the tenth spot for the biggest films of all time.
The film’s box office is about $618.8 million domestically and $905.1 million globally. It just started in Japan today, so those numbers are going to go up.
The biggest international market so far has been Mexico, where the film is at $100 million.
We don’t know how much further up the top movie chart “Inside Out 2” will go. It could overtake “The Lion King” or “Jurassic World.” Time will tell.
Here are the top nine films according to Box Office Mojo. 1 Avatar $2,923,706,026 2009 2 Avengers: Endgame $2,799,439,100 2019 3 Avatar: The Way of Water $2,320,250,281 2022 4 Titanic $2,264,750,694 1997 5 Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens $2,071,310,218 2015 6 Avengers: Infinity War $2,052,415,039 2018 7 Spider-Man: No Way Home $1,922,598,800 2021 8 Jurassic World $1,671,537,444 2015 9 The Lion King $1,663,079,059 2019
Of course, this has not been adjusted for inflation.

It’s actually next to impossible to forget the heart-stirring saga of Jack and Rose in James Cameron’s epic masterpiece, Titanic. Has there ever been a love story quite like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s characters in the 1997 film that has been hailed as a treasure while also being panned by many critics?

In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the heroes are exiled to The Void, a wasteland where forgotten characters of 20th Century Fox’s Marvel films wander. The studio’s iconic logo lies decrepit and half-buried, a tombstone for a history of superhero films that came to an end with “The New Mutants,” released to poor reviews in 2020, a year after Disney’s 2019 acquisition of Fox.
The resurrection of that spandex-wearing menagerie of IP has led “Deadpool & Wolverine” to a $438 million global opening weekend, the largest the box office has seen since “Avatar: The Way of Water” at the end of 2022. Its $211 million domestic haul stands as the highest ever for an R-rated film, and after passing $500 million in less than a week, it’s in line to join “Joker” as only the second film with that rating to gross $1 billion globally.

"Scary, absurd, inessential." That's how critic David Denby described director Renny Harlin's 1999 shark movie "Deep Blue Sea" in his review for The New Yorker. I think it's fair to say that history agrees with his first two points. That third point, however? That one has been challenged greatly as the film was a success in its day and has gained a much larger following in the years since its theatrical run. It's now a franchise with two direct-to-video sequels. More than that, one could easily make the argument that it's the second-best shark movie ever made, only behind Steven Spielgerg's all-time blockbuster classic "Jaws."

It's astonishing to think that James Cameron, the mastermind behind FX-laden mega-blockbusters like "Titanic" and "Avatar," once made movies on the cheap. When Cameron made "The Terminator" back in 1984, he was able to assemble relatively low-rent effects to produce some pretty incredible visuals. In one scene, for instance, after actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was briefly on fire, Cameron needed his jacket to realistically smolder. Cameron didn't want to burn Schwarzenegger with anything pyrotechnic, so he threw some (inexpensive) acid onto Arnold's jacket. The dissolving material looked like smoke.
"Terminator" fans might also know the story of how Cameron needed a shot of the killer robot's glowing mechanical eyeball flickering out at the film's conclusion. The achieve the shot, Cameron bought a small red lightbulb at an electronics store, crushed it in between two pieces of styrofoam that he painted silver, and blew cigarette smoke into the frame. Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” (Disney) grossed $38.5 million in Thursday previews. Though not a record (“Avengers: Endgame” took in $60 million), it suggests an opening above the projected $150 million-$200 million. However, it guarantees the easiest of predictions: This will make it the best opening for an R-rated film ever.
“Deadpool and Wolverine” will be the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated film as not only an unadjusted gross, but also adjusted to relative ticket prices. It should also easily score the biggest domestic total for an R-rated release, but it will remain far down the list of R-rated hits based on attendance.
At $371 million, it will become the highest grossing R-rated film. But it will need to gross $464 million — $100 million more than either of the two earlier “Deadpool” films — to even make the top 15 when comparing adjusted ticket prices.
