Some people think Leonardo DiCaprio became a star when he acted in James Cameron’s Titanic. Others believe his stardom predated that movie when he starred opposite Claire Danes in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet. However, the movie that made him an up-and-comer is a film that seems to have been all but erased from his filmography: the 1995 drama The Basketball Diaries, a movie that teamed him with a young Mark Wahlberg, earned good reviews and became a VHS cult hit among teens of the nineties. Yet, it’s a tough film to find unless you’re willing to shell out big bucks for the long, out-of-print Blu-ray (never released in the U.S) or an old-school DVD. You won’t find it on streaming, and it remains an oddly obscure film considering how popular it was in the nineties. What gives?

A Journey member revealed how ‘Don’t Stop Believin” got bigger and bigger
During a 2024 interview with The Guardian, Journey’s Neal Schon discussed his feelings about “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

Dance! Dance! In Goodfellas, Spider made the fateful mistake of telling Tommy to do something almost as insulting as going home to get his shinebox. But for Michael Imperioli, that scene made him dance all the way to the emergency room.
Reflecting on working on Goodfellas as he was just trying to get his career going, Michael Imperioli remembered turning down a stunt double for the scene in which Joe Pesci’s character shoots and kills him – not long after giving him the only trigger warning the film needs. Because the prop guy handed him a real glass instead of the usual “sugar glass” used on sets, Imperioli actually cut himself so badly that Martin Scorsese had to pause the entire set. That’s bad enough but imagine the horror the hospital team faced when they saw this kid riddled with bullet holes. “They took me to the emergency room.

Even with as many spinoffs as Yellowstone has, viewers will never forget about the original series that started it all. Recently, one of the stars of the show shared a touching message online, saying goodbye in a heartfelt way. So, what did they say?
Yellowstone Is One Of The Most Popular Series Ever
There are a lot of television series that are captivating nowadays. Over the last two decades or so, scripted dramas have really upped their game. Certain series come to mind that completely changed the landscape of what we know scripted dramas to be.
At the top of the list, the vast majority of viewers agree that there are shows like The Sopranos and The Wire. Many people even throw in classics like Breaking Bad or even Game of Thrones. Over the last half decade and change, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has very much made itself part of that conversation.

Note: This story contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season two finale.
HBO cutting to black hasn’t annoyed this many TV fans since The Sopranos ended.
Season two of House of the Dragon led up to a great battle for control of Westeros — a war potentially fought on several fronts, with massive armies, impossibly high stakes and fire-breathing dragons galore! And to see it, you’ll just have to wait a couple years for season three, since Sunday’s finale concluded moments before the action was seemingly about to get underway (“When the most action in the season finale is mud wresting,” groused one viewer).
For fans (some of the heated and varied reactions are below), the finale felt a bit like deja vu. The first- season finale ended with a sense of “Ok, now it’s war!” The second-season finale has now also ended with “Ok, now it’s war!

“Overnight!” That’s what Holland Taylor infamously shouted 25 years ago when she won her first career Emmy Award in Best Drama Supporting Actress for her guest-starring role as judge Roberta Kittleson on “The Practice.” (Watch the Emmy flashback video below.)
Can the esteemed actress now claim an Emmy bookend for playing Uba board chair Cybil Reynolds on Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show”? She’s competing yet again in the Best Drama Supporting Actress race and, just like in 1999, she’s billed as a guest star as opposed to a series regular, so Emmy history could repeat itself.
Taylor has submitted the episode “White Noise” to Emmy judges for this 2024 contest, in which Cybil’s career hangs in the balance when one of her old racist emails resurfaces. Cybil agrees to a damage control interview on the A.M. news program with Black journalist Chris Hunter (Nicole Beharie), but it...

At 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, Dexter diehards were elated to hear the announcement that Michael C. Hall would be returning for yet another go around as Miami Metro’s most lovable serial killer in the sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection. Taking place after the events of both Dexter and Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Resurrection should grapple with the character’s family issues and conflicted sense of morality just like the previous two series.
Let’s put aside the funny little problem that Dexter died at the end of New Blood, or at least that’s what the audience was led to believe. The writers will find a loophole to easily bring him back into the picture. Character deaths on TV are always disputed even when the writers want to make it concrete and obvious that someone is six feet under. There's a scene midway through Chuck Russell's 1994 comedy The Mask that stands out as an absolute comic masterstroke—zero CGI cartoon antics required. Drea de Matteo, best known for playing Adriana on The Sopranos, is not happy with certain celebrities making fun of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. “Everybody has their right to their opinion, and they have freedom of speech, so here we are,” Matteo told Fox News Digital. “But, again, I’m a liberal. I am a liberal who does not understand how the left has become so rebellious, with not one undertone of peace, love, harmony, and compassion.” She added, “You’re supposed to be the party of inclusivity, of love, of peace. And all of a sudden, these are the rioters. These are the mean-spirited folks out there. And I don’t understand that.” Trump was giving a speech at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, July 13, when a shooter attempted to assassinate the Republican presidential nominee. From the vast world of television shows, we, as in those of us who get way too invested in stories about the people we see on our screens, have watched and re-watched and binged on numerous shows over the years. In trying to escape our realities and to get ourselves involved in the fantasy of these shows and the characters, television has always been a medium people are drawn to.

The Brits though, don’t necessarily like most American shows that come up. Or maybe it’s just a notion we haven’t been able to escape just yet. Whether it’s coz the US went and remade The Office or something else entirely, they have been the most difficult bunch to impress. Disney Needs to Hit Pause On Star Wars - Main Image
Star Wars is one of the most recognizable cinematic properties in the world. That’s why Disney paid $4 billion for it in 2012. Since then though, it has become the most memed IP on the internet, being pilloried by long-time fans and roundly ignored by the current generation.
Disney couldn’t have foreseen the rise of YouTube, TikTok, and alternative entertainment 12 years ago, but they also haven’t done themselves any favors with Star Wars. The sequel trilogy, whether you loved it or hated it, was clearly produced with no clear story to tell or even a sensible plan for its creation.
Following the less-than-stellar run of The Acolyte, Star Wars is at its least relevant point in entertainment culture for a long, long time. Which is exactly why it needs to go away for a while to regroup.

The peak television renaissance didn't happen overnight. A decade prior to the epochal debut of "The Sopranos" on HBO, series as disparate in their aims as "The Simpsons," "Twin Peaks" and "The Larry Sanders Show" were challenging the industry's notions of what the broadcast medium could accomplish. Dramatic story arcs began to stretch out over a season or longer, while sitcoms got edgier and less hidebound to the multi-camera format. These successes emboldened major filmmakers to try their hand at episodic TV, which didn't always pan out. But it was always thrilling to see great artists romp about in a medium Hollywood once considered beneath them.
Of these efforts, it's possible none had a greater influence on the peak era than NBC's "Homicide: Life on the Street." When Baltimore Sun reporter David Simon began shopping his book "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets," an account of his time...

By the time 1999 rolled around, David E. Kelley had already more than proven his bonafides as a megaproducer and an Emmy dynamo nearly without peer. He had already won five statuettes as a producer for Best Drama Series – three for “L.A. Law” and two more for “Picket Fences” (1993 and ’94) – as well as another pair for writing Emmys for “L.A. Law” (’90 and ’91). Oh, and there was also a 1998 Best Drama win for “The Practice,” giving him six trophies for top series and eight Emmys overall. Not too shabby. In fact, his run of winning Best Drama five times in six years had never happened. The closest anyone came was Kelley’s mentor Steven Bochco’s run of four straight for “Hill Street Blues” in the early 1980s.
And still, even with all of that, the best was yet to come for Kelley.
In ’99, the producer was coming off his “Practice” win...

Sopranos‘ fan fave Drea de Matteo lived a relatively low-key life after her HBO fame. Matteo has taken on roles off and on since her Sopranos days, but she has spent the majority of the time raising her kids Blackjack and Alabama.
Last year Drea began making headlines again after she launched her successful OnlyFans page. Now, the HBO actress is raising eyebrows after dropping a bomb about her 13 year old son and her Only Fans pictures.

Drea de Matteo was very candid about posting her scandalous photos on Only Fans, and it all came down to cold hard cash.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Season 1 of “The Acolyte.”]
“The Acolyte” creator and director Leslye Headland loves a binge watch. The accessibility and volume of television out there in the streaming galaxy is such that not only is it possible to wait for a handful of episodes, but honestly seems preferable to her. You’ve got to sort out if a show will appeal to you, if you’re watching it with friends or a partner, and if so, are you doing that together or asynchronously? It’s a much easier call to make with three or four episodes at a time than just a pilot, invariably an exercise in worldbuilding.
“The last thing I think I really enjoyed watching weekly was ‘Breaking Bad,’ which I know is like a decade ago now,” Headland told IndieWire on the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “Or ‘Lost’ or like ‘The Sopranos.’ But those were constructed by these guys who knew that old model backwards and forwards,...

Once upon a time, in a TV world long ago, there was no such thing as a series finale. How can that be? In the beginning, most series were episodic, and although viewers came to love many characters, there weren’t story arcs to be resolved, or even futures to be determined. Somewhere out there, it seems, Lucy and Ricky and Fred and Ethel will always be up to their shenanigans, because it quite simply never really ended.
That all changed in 1963 when Americans got hooked on “The Fugitive.” Week to week, viewers tuned in to watch wrongly-convicted Dr. Kimble relentlessly search for his wife’s true killer while running from the law. TV history was made in 1967 when this series provided an actual conclusion to its story, which went on to become the most-watched television episode up to that time, proving that audiences yearned for closure with their favorite characters.

The sixth and final season of Cobra Kai is officially underway as its first part releases on Netflix today. The William Zabka and Ralph Macchio starrer has had a profound journey from being a pop cultural milestone of the ‘80s to being a show on YouTube Red to finally being acquired by Netflix.
While the final season sees the two Karate Kids ready for battle in the Seikai Taikai, fans were disappointed to learn that like other Netflix finales, this too would be split into different parts. Despite fans’ disappointment, there seems to be some good news as the makers announced the second part will be arriving almost two weeks before schedule.

Prior to the 2020s, three-time Emmy winner Meryl Streep had never played a regular role on a continuing TV series. However, by said decade’s halfway point, she had earned TV academy recognition for her featured turns on “Big Little Lies” and “Only Murders in the Building” and thus joined 23 other actresses with lead or supporting bids for both comedy and drama programs. Scroll through our photo gallery to find out who else belongs to this exclusive club.
At this point, the only actresses who have ever won Emmys as both drama and comedy series regulars are Edie Falco (“The Sopranos”; “Nurse Jackie”) and Allison Janney (“The West Wing”; “Mom”). This article contains spoilers through House of the Dragon season 2 episode 4.
House of the Dragon has more in common with The Sopranos than you might think. There’s the obvious similarities in plot such as mutilating the loved one of an enemy to send a message, clandestine meetings between heads of households, and illicit affairs, but there are also more subtle ones. According to actor Ewan Mitchell, who plays Aemond Targaryen in House of the Dragon, his character is a lot like James Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano.
While chatting with Den of Geek at a press roundtable, Mitchell said that Gandolfini’s performance in The Sopranos influenced and inspired how he approached Aemond in House of the Dragon season 2.
“If [Gandolfini] wanted to feel intense in a scene or to have some things simmering underneath the surface, he would put a stone in his shoe, if I recall correctly.” Mitchell said,...

Comedies may not get the prestige and glory of dramas when it comes to awards, but the filmmakers behind them would probably agree that they're infinitely harder to make. The hope is that what's being captured on set will make audiences laugh months, sometimes even years, after production is wrapped. In order to determine whether something is funny, you're relying on a much smaller crew of people, from those who wrote the script to the crew behind the camera. If they're laughing, you're probably doing something right. But comedy is extremely subjective, and you never really know if you've got a true crowd-pleaser until those first test screening reactions start rolling in.
But in the case of Will Ferrell and Jon Favreau's modern classic holiday comedy "Elf," which follows an orphan human raised by elves at the North Pole as he tries to reconnect with his estranged biological father...

Nicolas Cage is back with a new horror thriller film Longlegs which follows his satanic serial killer role that forces fathers to kill their families. The movie was deemed too horrifying that even Alicia Witt, the actress who portrayed Ruth Harker, stayed away from seeing it.

The Dexter prequel, Original Sin, is generating buzz and really picking up steam. In addition to the confirmation of some major star power in leading roles, there have been some significant famous faces signing on for recurring roles as well, including industry favorite actor, Joe Pantoliano. Here’s what else we know about who is joining the cast.
Dexter: Original Sin Taking Viewers Back To The Beginning
For any viewers who were along for the ride when the original Dexter series aired, there was a rich backstory. At the time, the series took place with Dexter Morgan in the current era, with flashbacks alluding to how he grew up and became the vigilante serial killer that he did.
However, with this new prequel series, Original Sin, Dexter’s origin story is getting the space to breathe in order to fully flesh out the character in his early years. Following...

Exclusive: Showtime’s Dexter: Original Sin cast is adding 9 recurring characters to Season 1 to be played by Emmy winner Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos), Brittany Allen (The Boys), Randy Gonzalez (Bloodline), Aaron Jennings (Pure Genius), Raquel Justice (One Day at a Time), Jasper Lewis (V/H/S), Carlo Mendez (The Bay), Isaac Gonzalez Rossi (That’s Amor) and Roberto Sanchez (Palm Royale).
The 10-episode original drama series is set in 1991 Miami and follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson), a student refining his killer skills with the help and support of his adoptive father Harry (Christian Slater). Exclusive: The Martin cast reunion was a highlight of this year’s Emmy Awards, tapping into nostalgia to bring the 90s sitcom back into the pop culture conversation. The beloved comedy is now looking for a more permanent return with Young Martin, a new hourlong drama series from Martin Lawrence and his production company, RunTelDat, in collaboration with Marvin Peart’s WonderHill Studios.
The hourlong Young Martin is contemporary origin story centering on Martin Payne, a charismatic teenager navigating the complexities of transitioning from youth to adulthood. It reimagines the character played by Lawrence on Martin, paying homage to the original show, which aired on Fox from 1992-97.
Young Martin‘s dramatic bent resembles the route another signature 1990s sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, starring Lawrence’s Bad Boys co-lead Will Smith, took with Bel-Air, executive produced by Smith.

On the surface, there doesn’t appear to be much profit for Disney in a new bundle with Max and Hulu.
As anyone who has been following the streaming world in 2024 knows, bundling is the wave of the present, and likely the future. Providers are searching for ways to keep customers engaged with their platforms as prices rise, and bundles can offer meaningful discounts on services that viewers were likely to stack anyway. Disney+ and Hulu are already available together for $9.99 in the Disney Duo Basic bundle, but the two services will join a new streaming product this summer when they combine with Max in a new offering. But is that a wise move on Disney’s part? New data from Ampere Analysis suggests perhaps not, as Warner Bros. Discovery seemingly has a lot more to gain from the arrangement than Disney does.

Order your hits now, because The Sopranos is a comedy.
Sure, it may have won 21 Emmys for drama, but there’s no way that a show with that many funny characters spouting that many classic one-liners isn’t a comedy. From Christopher’s malaprops, to Tony’s ridiculous fits of rage, to just about anything involving Paulie Walnuts, The Sopranos has supplied some of the biggest laughs in the history of television.
You can fight me about it, but just know that I’ve assembled an almost-literal murderers’ row to back me up, including cast members Vincent “Big Pussy” Pastore, Robert “A.J. Soprano” Iler, John “Artie Bucco” Ventimiglia, Joe “Vito Spatafore” Gannascoli, Dan “Philly and Patsy Parisi” Grimaldi and Ray “Little Carmine” Abruzzo as well as Terence Winter, the writer and producer behind many of the show’s funniest moments.
Cross them at your own risk.

The Newsroom provided one of the most iconic moments in TV shows with its “America is not the greatest country in the world” speech. It has been 12 years since the HBO show kicked off with the legendary monologue by Jeff Daniels. While the speech has been etched in the memories of countless fans, it also brought a Primetime Emmy win for Daniels.

Some shows are just meant to be talked about for many years after they are finished. And one of the brightest examples of such cases is definitely The Sopranos. The mob drama premiered in 1999 and had a great run until 2007, becoming one of the most iconic series ever created.
What’s great about The Sopranos is that the show’s premise is so complicated that it gives a lot of food for thought. There are no one-dimensional characters, they all have complex personalities even though it may not seem so on the first look.
Most of the stories are somehow related to the show's main character, Tony Soprano, and his attempts to live a decent life while being a mentally troubled mob boss. Still, I feel that many of these stories were rushed and deserved a better closure.

The latest season of Netflix’s hit period drama “Bridgerton” has ignited a heated debate about body representation in media, with fans and critics alike weighing in on the show’s depiction of a romance between characters of different body types.
Season 3, which began streaming in May 2024, focuses on the relationship between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). While the pairing, affectionately dubbed “Polin” by fans, has garnered praise for its chemistry and storytelling, it has also become the center of a contentious discussion about weight and beauty standards in Hollywood.
The controversy was fueled by a series of articles in major publications, including The Spectator and Forbes, which used terms like “mixed-weight romance” to describe the on-screen couple. The Spectator’s piece, in particular, drew sharp criticism for its blunt assessment of Coughlan’s appearance, describing her as “not hot” and questioning the plausibility of her...

The growing chasm between HBO and Max has widened to the point where you could fit a Mountain of Entertainment(™) through the two. But why would you want to?
Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global are engaged in talks to combine streamers Max and Paramount+, according to CNBC. Such a merger could be the lifeline Paramount+ so desperately needs and would bring HBO/Max closer to the magic 200-million-subscribers mark; Paramount+ has more than 71 million global streaming subscribers, Wbd’s direct-to-consumer platforms combine for about 100 million subs (most are Max). Or it could be a giant mistake that further dilutes the perceived quality of the former HBO Max.
When reached by IndieWire, spokespeople for both Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery declined to comment on the CNBC report. The Max/Paramount+ conversations are not totally out of the blue. For a minute in December 2023, it looked like Wbd and Paramount Global might merge entirely.

The entirety of the hit ABC drama series "Lost" just dropped on Netflix, meaning a whole new generation and a whole new audience will get to experience one of the best and most influential shows of the past 20 years through the most popular streaming service on the planet.
These new audiences will be introduced to the highs (like the best music score in TV history) and lows of this drama about castaways having to survive on a mysterious island, and they'll do so years removed from the heated conversations that made this a controversial and incredibly popular show. TV is very different today than it was when this show premiered 20 years ago, in no small part thanks to "Lost" itself. Serialization and expansive mythologies may be commonplace now, but mystery boxes with dozens of ongoing plots providing fuel for dozens of Reddit threads full of speculation weren't the norm back then.

There’s hardly a person who hasn't heard of one of the most iconic TV series ever created – The Sopranos. The show follows all the daily dangerous shenanigans of a powerful mobster clan with its boss Tony Soprano being ultimately the reason why you fall in love with it.
Tony Soprano is a character with a rather complex personality, and late James Gandolfini was a perfect casting choice for it. You can’t say Tony was your classic protagonist, but you also can’t call him the villain of the story as well, despite there being times you even wondered whether he actually has some sort of a soul.
But even the role of a mob boss wasn’t the most brutal and villainous in Gandolfini’s career. In 2001, two years after The Sopranos premiered, he played the part of Colonel Winter, a rather corrupt and dark-hearted commandant in the movie called The Last Castle.

What do you think of when you think of "Lost"? That bizarre hatch in the middle of the jungle -- and everyone's reaction to it -- was precisely the kind of plot twists that cable, network, and now streaming television have been trying to recreate ever since the season 1 finale. Or maybe it's the smoke monster that plagued the survivors through countless episodes, a mystery that was finally resolved as an underwhelming afterthought, representing both the highs and lows of stringing viewers along perhaps a bit too long. For many, that controversial and confusing ending is what sticks out the most all these years later, forever existing as a cautionary tale warning against investing in stories that begin with no real ending in mind.
