If you're a big fan of trashy, popular airport mystery paperbacks, you probably know who James Patterson and Alex Cross are. Patterson is a highly successful author (he's the first person to ever sell one million e-books), and while these days he seems to let other people write for him and then just slaps his name on the cover and cashes a check, his early books were authored solo. And when he wrote those early books, he created Alex Cross, a character who has appeared in several books now. Cross is a brilliant Metropolitan Police Department detective who often hunts down twisted serial killers. He's the type of ready-for-the-screen character that people love to watch, so it makes sense that there have been multiple Alex Cross movies — and there's a new Alex Cross TV series on the way, too, headed to Prime Video.
For now, we're just going to focus on the movies.

James Patterson‘s most popular fictional figure is getting another screen adaptation in Cross, and from the looks of the first trailer, this Amazon Prime Video original is going to be a doozy. The streamer also renewed the series for a second season. Johnny Ray Gill, Juanita Jennings, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, Jennifer Wigmore, and Eloise Mumford also feature. Ben Watkins is showrunner and executive producer. Season 2 will see the addition of actors Matthew Lillard,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 4 “Along Came a Spider.”] Lucas (Chris McNally) gets a very unwanted blast from his past, one he’d not exactly been truthful about, when his old “friend,” Jeanette (Cecilia Deacon), comes to Hope Valley on When Calls the Heart. Sure, they’ve gotten into trouble in the past, but she insists she’s just there representing a group of investors interested in the hotel. Lucas doesn’t buy it and spends the episode trying to get Jeanette to leave and keep her from interacting with anyone, especially his ex-fiancée Elizabeth (Erin Krakow). But Jeanette does make sure to introduce herself to Elizabeth just before she leaves. So how much was Lucas not wanting her around about him knowing her tactics and how much was it him not wanting the reminder of who he was? “I think it’s definitely both. Lucas knows Jeanette well...

Lucas is about to confront a mysterious figure from his past on When Calls the Heart. In the April 28 episode of the Hallmark Channel drama, a woman named Jeanette Aucoin arrives in Hope Valley. Jeanette ‘causes a stir’ in Hope Valley in the next episode of ‘When Call the Heart’
“We have a newcomer in Hope Valley in season 11 from Lucas’s past. Her name is Jeanette,” Lucas actor Chris McNally says in a behind-the-scenes video for Hallmark (via YouTube).
While this is the first time When Calls the Heart viewers have seen Jeanette, she’s not exactly new to the show.
“She’s been threaded through the story, through various seasons, ever since Lucas’s inception,” McNally explains.
Jeanette’s character has been mentioned several times in past seasons.

Following the success of Jonathan Demme's "The Silence of the Lambs" in 1991, Hollywood released an eight-year-long tidal wave of serial killer thrillers, each one pulpier than the last. This was the era of "Seven," "Copycat," "Along Came a Spider," "Jennifer 8," "See No Evil," "Eye of the Beholder," "Sliver," "Knight Moves," and any number of others. Right at the end of the decade came Phillip Noyce's 1999 thriller "The Bone Collector," based on the airport novel by Jeffery Deaver. Deaver's original novel was the first of the long-running Lincoln Rhyme series, a series that saw its 16th installment published in 2023. Lincoln Rhyme, thanks to a spinal accident, could not move his body below his neck, and fought crime from his bed, deducting details, looking at pictures, and relying on his team.
In the film adaptation, Denzel Washington played Lincoln Rhyme and Angelina Jolie played his plucky crime fighting partner Amelia Donaghy.

Many people often blasphemously (and hilariously) joke around that Morgan Freeman is God. Not only because of his pitch perfect casting as God but also due to his smooth, defining and, yes, god-like is Morgan Freeman’s voice that one can’t picture penguins or parts of nature or, yes, God, without hearing the man. One reason could be that we’ve only ever really known Morgan Freeman as an older actor, not striking a chord with mainstream audiences until he was in his 50s.
Soon enough his skills, screen presences and voice had Hollywood calling every time they needed a kind wise grandfather types or a grizzled vet from either side of the the law or any type of narration in any type of film. Zorro and Expats are the big shows coming to Prime Video in January. The former is what Amazon are calling a “bold reinterpretation” of the classic hero El Zorro for 2024. Starring Miguel Bernardeau as Diego de la Vega and Renata Notni as Lolita Marquez, it’s definitely an intriguing-sounding action-adventure series, with a ten-episode first season based on the iconic character originally created by Johnston McCulley all the way back in 1919.
Meanwhile, upcoming drama series Expats is based on the bestselling 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee, and follows “the vibrant lives of a close-knit expatriate community” in Hong Kong. Nicole Kidman has been known for picking the right kind of shows to lead in the past, so let’s hope this is another banger for the actress, who is also on board as an executive producer here.

It's a good day when good things happen to good people. Variety announced today that "Straight Outta Compton," "Hidden Figures," and "Black Adam" star Aldis Hodge has been cast in the titular role in a new Prime Video series based on James Patterson's Alex Cross novels. The series is titled "Cross," with the character described by Amazon as "brilliant, flawed, and full of contradictions." The character is a dedicated father and family man, but is said to be on a one-track mind bordering on obsession when it comes to hunting down killers. After the murder of his wife, Cross appears to be broken beyond repair, "desperate for love [...] but too damaged to receive it."

Things are going pretty, pretty well for HBO and HBO Max at the moment thanks to the smashing success of Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. With its list of new releases for October 2022 though, HBO Max appears ready to up the ante even more.
The headlining title on HBO Max this month is undoubtedly The White Lotus season 2 on Oct. 30. Mike White’s freshly-Emmy-winning comedy looked to be a one-off after season 1. But cooler heads prevailed and the series is now returning in an anthology format. What will season 2 look like? Guess we’ll find out when the show checks in to Sicily later this month.
Aside from The White Lotus, HBO also has a few other TV shows of note this month. The torturously titled Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler debuts its third season on Oct. 6. That will be followed by Avenue 5 season 2 on Oct.

We are more than 20 years removed from 2000's "X-Men" opening up the door for Hollywood's ongoing obsession with superhero movies. Yes, "Blade" cracked the door open in 1998, but true mainstream success followed with Marvel's mutants two years later -- and Sam Raimi would truly break the whole thing wide open in 2002 with "Spider-Man." By 2015, we were a decade and a half into the superhero boom and the time for attempted reinvention was upon us, and that attempted reinvention came from director Josh Trank taking a stab at bringing Marvel's first family to life in "Fantastic Four."

“Sam stepped right into this universe with Dr Strange and took it so to the next level,” Elfman continued. “Yet, he brought his own sensibility. It’s like a perfect fusion of Sam Raimi world and Marvel world.”
Elfman, the well-revered composer of numerous iconic scores including “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Men in Black,” returns to work...
