The Dog Days of summer—vaguely from mid-July through mid-August, depending on who does the counting—may not seem like much of an Oscar crucible. You’d think most Academy voters would be sipping Margaritas in Malibu, or Limoncello Martinis somewhere on the Mediterranean.
But as often as not in the last fifteen years, the Dog Day bracket has produced a Best Picture nominee. And last year, of course, it brought a winner in Oppenheimer, which was released alongside fellow Best Picture nominee Barbie on July 21, and was still going gangbusters in mid-August.
There’s a certain rough charm to the Dog Day nominees. They tend to be audience favorites, movies that connect with the movie-hungry middle, which powers them into the Oscar race, whatever the somewhat fussier film professionals may think.

It’s a bad time to be Eli Roth.
A miscalculation of near-mythic proportions, “Borderlands” has a whopping six percent on Rotten Tomatoes heading into its opening weekend. Those bad reviews (IndieWire gave it a “C-“) are the least of the “Hostel” filmmaker’s problems, as Lionsgate’s misguided video game adaptation has inspired assessments of not only the director’s filmography but also whether his impact on pop culture has been at all valuable.
This ranking can’t account for all of that. If you’re a fan of the types of genre films that Roth makes, read on. If you’re not, do not pass go, do not collect $200, and enjoy the “Borderlands” dogpile — a massive multiplayer online affair now available free of charge.
Last year, Roth’s meaty and murderous “Thanksgiving” did well for the provocateur. The seasonal holiday slasher, starring Nell Verlaque, Patrick Dempsey, and Addison Rae among others,...

Mélanie Laurent is Marie Antoinette and Guillaume Canet her husband Louis XVI in Italian director Gianluca Jodice’s Le Déluge (The Flood), which opened the 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival on Wednesday night in the Swiss town’s Piazza Grande, which seats 8,000 people during the fest.
On Thursday afternoon, the two stars, along with their director, met members of the press to discuss the movie, which is set in 1792 when the two main characters and their children were arrested and imprisoned in a chateau in Paris, awaiting their trial.
THR‘s Locarno review called the movie “an intriguing palace drama chronicling the last days of France’s ultimate royal couple,” also highlighting that “nuanced performances from both Canet and Laurent help to make the famous couple more than mere caricatures.”
The stars on Thursday shared how they got into their characters and their mindset. Actress-writer-director Laurent (Inglourious Basterds,...

Deadpool & Wolverine Star Emma Corrin’s Performance Didn’t Require Much Physicality - Main Image
Deadpool & Wolverine's Emma Corrin expected that their massive role in the MCU as Cassandra Nova would involve actual 'physical transformation' and training. However, Marvel executives had other plans in mind.
Deadpool & Wolverine's Cassandra Nova Actor Was Preparing For A Much More Ruthless Battle
Charles Xavier's evil twin, Cassandra Nova (played by Emma Corrin), rules The Void from the Tva and she's not letting two unlikely mutants destroy her chance at conquering the Multiverse. Who knew she didn't have to literally lift a finger to gain the upper hand against the ketchup and mustard duo?
Usually, comic book heroes would require more strength in executing stunts for the big screens, but as it turns out, Corrin's case is different.

When Hostel director Eli Roth was cast as the Bear Jew in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (2009), fans were skeptical that he would be up to the task, considering his relative inexperience in front of the camera.
“At the time, people were saying, ‘Why is Tarantino casting Eli? He’s not an actor,’” Roth tells Den of Geek magazine. “And Tarantino is going, ‘Yes, he is. Wait until the movie comes out.’ Fifteen years later, the Bear Jew is a classic character. The way to prove people wrong is with your work.”
For Borderlands, Roth’s forthcoming film adaptation of the long-running Gearbox Software video game series, he assembled an ensemble cast that includes Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart, cast boldly against type. Blanchett, mostly known for dramatic roles in classy Best Picture nominees,...

“Remember, gentlemen,” says Henry Cavill’s Gus March-Phillipps in The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare, “try to have fun.” It is an instructive line. This is a very silly kind of war film, an action comedy with only a tangential, Wikipedia-skim-read level of historical reality. It is extremely loosely based on the real Operation Postmaster, the daring off-books operation which saw a crack team of commandos steal enemy warships from the Germans.
In the midst of a prolific streak, we find director Guy Ritchie here in less geezer-gangster mood, more The Man From U.N.C.L.E. mode. Not to say that there aren’t Ritchie-isms to be found. The colourful ensemble is introduced with a montage you could describe as Snatch-ian, introducing characters such as Henry Golding’s Freddy ‘Frogman’ Alvarez, or Alan Ritchson’s hard bastard Anders Lassen.

Emma Corrin is teasing their new role in the Deadpool & Wolverine film, where they star opposite Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
Corrin plays Cassandra Nova, Dr. Charles Xavier’s villainous twin sister, in the new Marvel Studios film. For the role, they drew inspiration from characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Inglourious Basterds.
“I drew inspiration from Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds, which was Ryan’s reference when we started,” Corrin told People in an interview referring to Christopher Waltz’s character in the Quentin Tarantino film.
Corrin added, “And then not a villain, but I was really inspired by Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka. Sort of a nonchalant, detached power.”
In a previous interview, Corrin said they wanted to pay homage to the actors who have previously played Charles Xavier, such as Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy.
“I did look back at those two performances,” they told Screen Rant.

To say that few filmmakers love movies as much as Quentin Tarantino is a staggering understatement. Few people love movies as much as Quentin Tarantino, and the cinephile’s tastes continue to shape Hollywood. Today he turns 61, and so of course we had to share an updated list of Tarantino’s favorite movies that brings the total to 61.
The video store clerk-turned-director has spent decades dazzling interviewers and fans with his unparalleled knowledge of cinema history, with tastes that range from universally acclaimed classics to more obscure and even lowbrow fare. While his love of spaghetti Westerns and exploitation flicks has always been well-documented, Tarantino isn’t afraid to publicly embrace the modern or mainstream. He proudly championed “Top Gun: Maverick” in the summer of 2022, as did so many others. Not to mention, he’s a fan of rom-coms, particularly on long flights. (He once dubbed Kate Hudson “the queen...

As with leading men, the winner of Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars is usually one of the more seasoned competitors. Of the 88 winners to date, only four Best Supporting Actor champs were in their 20s and just 15 were thirtysomething, including 2021 champ Daniel Kaluuya (“Judas and the Messiah”). The 2024 winner, Robert Downey, Jr., was 58 when he picked up his prize for “Oppenheimer.” He joined 16 previous winners who were in their 50s when they took home the trophy. (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Supporting Actor.)
Eleven more men were in their 60s when they won Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards. For eight fellows, it took till they were in their 70s to win while two (George Burns for “The Sunshine Boys” and Christopher Plummer for “Beginners”) were north of 80 when they took home their only Oscars.
At the 2019 Academy Awards, Mahershala Ali won “Green Book.

Fremantle, part of media giant Bertelsmann’s Rtl Group, has struck a first-look drama development deal with Roughcut Television, the production firm co-founded by CEO Ash Atalla, the producer of the original British version of The Office and The It Crowd.
The agreement follows the companies’ recent team-up on Paramount+ U.K. & Ireland psychological thriller series Little Disasters, starring Diane Kruger (Troy, Inglourious Basterds) and Jo Joyner (The Wives, For Her Sins).
Roughcut, founded by Atalla and chief operating officer Tim Sealey, is mostly known for comedy shows, such as Big Boys, Stath Lets Flats, and Cuckoo but it has also had success with recent Channel 5 drama Coma, starring Jason Watkins.
“The first-look and drama development deal will see Fremantle become the primary home for Roughcut TV’s scripted drama projects, with the producer working closely with Fremantle’s acclaimed global drama and international distribution divisions,” the companies said.

Amazon Prime Video has set the launch date and unveiled art for Mélanie Laurent’s upcoming heist romance “Freedom” (“Libre”) starring Lucas Bravo (“Emily in Paris”).
The movie, which will launch exclusively on Prime Video on Nov. 1 across more than 240 countries, reteams the streamer and the acclaimed actor-turned-filmmaker following “The Mad Women’s Ball” which world premiered at Toronto Film Festival in 2019.
Based on a true story of a renowned French gangster of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, “Freedom” stars Bravo as Bruno Sulak, a highly charming criminal à la Arsène Lupin who orchestrated daring heists without firing a single shot. The film also charts Sulak’s cat-and-mouse game with George Moréas (Yvan Attal), a tenacious police commissioner, as well as his numerous escapes from prison and relationship with lover Annie, who is played by newcomer Léa Luce Busato.

Pulp Fiction turned 30 this year and fans love the film even more when they hear the rare behind-the-scenes stories from the Quentin Tarantino classic. Well, here’s one that most fans might have missed — John Travolta was never the first choice for the role of Vincent Vega. Tarantino had another actor in mind who worked with him in his 1992 film, Reservoir Dogs.

Michael Madsen is a frequent collaborator on Tarantino films. However, when he was offered Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction, he had to turn it down due to his commitment to the 1994 Western flick Wyatt Earp. However, Madsen felt that Travolta’s addition to the film was one of the major reasons behind the success of Tarantino’s Oscar-nominated film.

More than 15 years into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we've seen a sizable number of villains that have run the gamut from street-level bad guys like Kingpin to universe-threatening, god-like beings such as Thanos. Next up, we'll see "The Crown" star Emma Corrin put their stamp on the McU's roster of baddies as Cassandra Nova, a character who has quite a wild origin story in Marvel Comics history. So, where did Corrin turn for inspiration to craft their villain? "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," of all places.
Corrin was recently the subject of a cover story for GQ. During the conversation, it was revealed that the actor took inspiration from a couple of cinematic classics. They referred to Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka as "one of the best villains of all time," right alongside Christoph Waltz in "Inglourious Basterds." Both influenced their take on Cassandra Nova. There was no rain after a morning drizzle. Instead, German-Spanish star Daniel Brühl (Becoming Karl Lagerfeld, All Quiet on the Western Front) was showered with love, appreciation and much applause as he arrived on the red carpet at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Kviff) on Thursday afternoon. The love fest continued inside when he received the Kviff President’s Award in the jam-packed Grand Hall of the Hotel Thermal, which serves as the fest’s headquarters, and presented his 2021 directorial debut Next Door.
After charming the audience with a Czech thank you, followed by a German thank you, and an English thank you “from the bottom of my heart,” Brühl told the people in attendance: “This is the most beautiful statuette. It’s more beautiful than the Oscar.” The crowd erupted into loud applause and wild cheers.

It’s more beautiful than the Oscar.” The crowd erupted into loud applause and wild cheers.

Emma Corrin took inspiration from a few different villains while preparing for their take on Cassandra Nova in Deadpool & Wolverine.
While speaking with British GQ before the Deadpool sequel’s release, the actor opened up about their research for the role and what originally drew them to the X-Men supervillain, who is also Charles Xavier’s sister.
For the role, they dove into the world of cinema’s classic antagonists, including Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka, who they consider “one of the best villains of all time,” and Christoph Waltz’s Nazi officer in Inglourious Basterds.
“There’s something extravagant in Gene Wilder’s performance,” Corrin told the publication. “And it’s a similar energy that Christoph Waltz has in Inglourious Basterds because he’s wearing a uniform so he can sit there and drink a glass of milk and pretend he’s a fucking fairy godmother.”

A Chinese trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine was released yesterday and, seeing as it appeared to be identical to the English language version, we included it at the bottom of this spoiler-filled article.
However, it took fans on social media little to no time to notice some big changes in the sneak peek. For starters, with the movie now completed, colour grading has been added which alters how the threequel looks fairly significantly.
Early sneak peeks were criticised for being bland, with many quick to share side-by-side comparisons of the difference between Deadpool & Wolverine's Void and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga's Wasteland.
Now, it's fair to say this location at the end of time is exactly where it needs to be...

Emma Corrin revealed in a video interview with British GQ that they requested a personal trainer in order to transform into the villainous Cassandra Nova for Marvel’s “Deadpool and Wolverine,” but the studio rejected their proposal. It turns out undergoing a physical transformation was not what the Marvel team was envisioning for Corrin’s MCU debut.
“This is funny because I did ask if I could have a personal trainer and they said no,” Corrin said. “They said I don’t have to undergo any physical training. I was so ready to undergo a huge transformation but they were like, ‘That’s absolutely not required of you. Please stand down.’ I tried.”
Comic book readers know Cassandra as the evil twin sister of Charles Xavier. Just how the character factors into the “Deadpool and Wolverine” storyline has yet to be revealed. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Corrin said that Ryan Reynolds...

Daniel Craig left some rather large shoes to fill after he exited as James Bond with his final Bond film “No Time to Die” in 2021. Three years on and we are seemingly no closer to finding out who the new 007 is than we were right after that movie. But… the debate around who we think should be the next Bond rages on, with every film fan having their own thoughts on who would be best suited for the role.
Craig himself was a stark departure from the ultra-suave Pierce Brosnan before him, with Craig bringing more grit, brutality, and gruff vulnerability to the role. Will producer Barbara Broccoli go for the same type as Craig, will they revert back to the smoothness of a Brosnan-type, or will they go for something different entirely? Well, here’s an extensive list of 30 actors who could theoretically take up the mantle of 007 next.

“Inside Out 2” roared into cinema in June, becoming Pixar’s highest-grossing film in a debut weekend of all time, while its current worldwide haul at this time of writing stands at just over one billion.
The first movie — one of the most ingenious films of this century — took audiences inside the head of young Riley as she navigated a move to a new city while her emotions tried to guide her through the move in her head. This second film brings back those emotions as Riley goes through her teenage years. But Joy and Sadness and the gang have to deal with several new emotions in headquarters, including Anxiety, Embarrassment, and Ennui.
But while the film marches towards $1 billion at the box office, could it also be marching towards awards glory? Well, animated flicks don’t get the justice they deserve when it comes to the Academy Awards. So often,...

Inglourious Basterds is getting a deluxe 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release, with some extra bits in the box: more here.
It’s a Quentin Tarantino film that’s already available on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc format (not all of his films currently are), but we’re now getting a fresh repackaging of it in a new Steelbook Collector’s Edition.
As well as coming with the existing 4K disc then, you also now get a new rigid slipcase, an engraved Steelbook, a 36-page behind the scenes book, a quarter of art cards, and some playing cards. Which will come in useful if you need a quick game of pontoon while you’re waiting for the menus to load up. Only eight playing cards, though, so it ain’t going to be much of a game.
It’s not been confirmed as of yet what extra features are being included in the release.

As anyone who still thinks twice before they hold up their fingers to signify the number three can tell you, Michael Fassbender is no stranger to spy games.

So today's news that the beloved Brit will be starring in the upcoming espionage series The Agency was greeted with tremendous excitement.
Fassbender will also be an executive producer on the series, alongside George Clooney and Grant Heslov.

Opening night at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival often lures a top talent to accept the Kviff President’s Award, in this case Viggo Mortensen, the writer/director/star of his sophomore film, western “The Dead Don’t Hurt,” co-starring Vicky Krieps, which will open in the Czech Republic on July 4.
Every year, Kviff presents a new black-and-white short film at the opening night ceremony, to serve as a trailer of sorts for the festival. This year’s main protagonist is Oscar-winning actor and producer Benicio del Toro (“Traffic”), recipient of the Kviff President’s Award in 2022. The short film was written and directed by long-time creator of Kviff trailers Ivan Zachariáš. Del Toro took time off while shooting Wes Anderson’s new film in Berlin to work with Zachariáš, who collaborated on the trailer with cinematographer Jan Velický and editor Filip Malásek, and composed the music.

Today, Quentin Tarantino remains one of the most acclaimed directors in Hollywood, known not only to cinephiles, but also to people who occasionally enjoy a fun action or gory slasher. The mass appeal is what made the director so popular, but it doesn't take away from his creative genius.
The director once admitted that he will only make 10 movies in his career, and he hasn't released the last one yet. The other 9, however, will make a great addition to anyone's movie night. So check out the ratings below and find out which Tarantino films are the best to start with and which ones you might want to skip.
Grindhouse Presents: Death Proof (2007) – 64%
As dynamic and violent as one expects from Quentin Tarantino's movie, Grindhouse Presents: Death Proof failed to impress viewers for some reason. While the rating is still fresh, the 64% mark is a far cry from any of the director's other movies.

Javier Bardem in ‘No Country for Old Men.’ Christoph Waltz in ‘Inglorious Basterds.’ Malcolm McDowell in ‘A Clockwork Orange.’ Allison Williams in ‘Get Out.’ It seems that when it comes to portraying sinister characters on screen, a love of milk is a common trait. Why do so many movie and TV villains love to drink milk?
Perhaps it’s the contrast with the wholesome associations people have with milk, symbolic of youth and innocence. According to Antony Starr, who plays the deliciously depraved Homelander on "The Boys," the character's milk obsession started in Season 1 as a "rivalry” with the baby of Madelyn Stillwell, his handler/lover/mother played by Elisabeth Shue. In an interview with IMDb, Starr explained it was “jealous, Oedipal thing."
The actor revealed that the milk gags became a running bit, with the writers incorporating more dairy-themed moments as the show progressed. After the first memorable milk-drinking scene, the actor emailed showrunner Eric Kripke to say “we’ve got to do more milk.” “He was like, 'Way ahead of you. I'm writing milk into everything from here on,'" Starr said.
The cast—including Chace Crawford, Erin Moriarty, Claudia Doumit, Karen Fukuhara, Susan Heyward, Colby Minifie, and Valorie Curry—also weighed in on which scene they think the show should be known for. Crawford—who plays troubled supe The Deep—cited the truly diabolical airplane sequence from Season 1, in which Homelander decides he’s unable to save an airplane full of passengers. “That was one of my favorites for sure,” he said. “That sort of encompasses the world of the show.”
Watch the IMDb interview here.
The first three episodes of Season 4 dropped Thursday, June 12, with new episodes arriving weekly on Prime Video. Expect more milk jokes for Homelander, as "The Boys" tap into the delightfully demented trope of onscreen villains’ dairy habits.

Quentin Tarantino’s films Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Inglourious Basterds will be the subject of two upcoming books written by Jay Glennie and published by Little, Brown imprint Voracious next year.
Each book will explore the making of those films individually, with Tarantino providing the foreword for each as well as access to assorted behind-the-scenes stuff including photos, earlier drafts of scripts and so forth.
Glennie has form when it comes to writing in-depth making-of books; his earlier work has covered such classics as Trainspotting, Raging Bull, The Deer Hunter and Nicolas Roeg’s Performance.

Deadline reports that Quentin Tarantino has teamed with Jay Glennie for two books, which will explore the making of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Inglourious Basterds.
Jay Glennie, who has written books about the making of movies such as The Deer Hunter, Trainspotting, Raging Bull, and more, conducted many hours of interviews with Tarantino about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Inglourious Basterds. The books will include “unseen personal photographs, behind-the-scenes stories, script drafts, notes, and changes, production and location materials, shooting schedules, and more.” Tarantino will pen the forward for each book.

Exclusive: The Little, Brown imprint Voracious has set a fall 2025 publication date for two books exploring the creative genius of Quentin Tarantino in the making of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Inglourious Basterds.
The books are written by Jay Glennie, and each will have a foreword written by Tarantino. Voracious VP/Publisher Michael Szczerban acquired world rights from Shane Salerno at The Story Factory.
The books will explore the making of these films in depth and detail, the result of hours of interviews that Glennie did with Tarantino about the creation, writing, casting, themes, visuals, production, soundtrack, post-production and global theatrical releases of both films. Aside from the interviews, Tarantino opened his personal archives to Glennie. Over 50 cast and crew also supplied anecdotes and photographs.

Having launched his career in the early 1990s, Quentin Tarantino has always been a master of action-packed and often pretty violent drama, no matter what is actually happening in a movie. The director’s obsession with gut-wrenching sequences reached a whole new level when his sixth thrilling masterpiece titled Inglourious Basterds was released back in 2009.
The movie that was quick to get a cult status came as yet another example of Tarantino’s unhinged directing style with an even harsher storyline that follows Jewish US soldiers’ ambitious plan to annihilate Nazi leaders. However, in this case the proclaimed director’s hunt for a realistic-looking picture almost led to a real-life tragedy on set.
In one of his interviews from several years ago, one of Inglourious Basterds’ leading actors, Eli Roth, revealed that filming that epic scene which wrapped the whole movie up was actually likely to become the last moment...

Quentin Tarantino is among the most unique and celebrated movie directors of our time, and rightfully so. Every single one of Tarantino’s “nine films” is considered a golden classic despite their varying genres. However, despite his popularity and acclaim, there’s one thing that prevents Tarantino from achieving bigger greatness — and that’s actors. Again, according to him.
Tarantino and Pitt Worked Together Twice
It’s no one’s secret that Quentin Tarantino largely prefers working with the actors he already knows or at least, those who have previously impressed him. Brad Pitt, the proud member of Hollywood’s royalty, has starred in Tarantino movies twice, but it’s the first time that we’re interested in now: the director’s 2009’s Inglourious Basterds.
Seeing how Inglourious Basterds was largely alluding to 1967’s The Dirty Dozen, it’s interesting that according to Tarantino himself, that movie could never be done in the modern days.

Quentin Tarantino is one of the most prolific filmmakers in Hollywood. The maverick director is known for films such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and the Kill Bill franchise. He is known for his particular brand of violent entertainers with a tribute to the films and TV shows he grew up with in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
In 2008, the filmmaker made one of his best-reviewed works Inglorious Basterds. The film saw a group of US soldiers infiltrating Nazi Germany during the Second World War. While Tarantino approached the subject with a revisionist history lens, he reportedly also wrote a segment in the original script that he wanted to turn into a spinoff film called Killer Crow.

Back when the love between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was still in its heydays while shooting Mr. & Mrs. Smith, no one could have believed that things would turn sour the way they did. The now-divorced couple has been involved in an endless round of litigation on multiple fronts. In one such battle unfolding over who will take control of one of their most lucrative properties, things have taken a turn for the worse, as both are levelling heinous charges against the other.
The battle for Miraval
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been involved in a dispute over their French estate Chateau Miraval
At the center of the dispute between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is the French estate of Chateau Miraval, a property which was bought by the former couple all the way back when they were married, hoping that the Chateau would one day belong to their children.

It remains the most joltingly violent, psychosexual grindhouse shocker of the ’80s, directed by a veteran of I Love Lucy and starring a frequently shirtless former teen idol with an epically demented performance by an Oscar nominee. And now, Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker can be experienced for the first time ever in Uhd. Jimmy McNichol stars as an orphaned high-school student raised by his strangely overprotective aunt (Susan Tyrrell of Fat City fame) who becomes implicated in a grisly murder investigated by a psychotic police detective (an equally unhinged Bo Svenson of Inglorious Bastards). Seven-time Emmy nominee Julia Duffy (Newhart) and Bill Paxton (in one of his first film roles) co-star in this “jaw-dropping hunk of genre insanity” (Pop Culture Beast) and former Dpp 39 Video Nasty—also known as Night Warning—now scanned in 4K from the original camera negative with six hours of new and archival special features.

American films and television invariably brush up against the issue of language. Since these stories are made for mass appeal — and said mass is English-speaking audiences — the films will depict characters speaking English even if that shouldn't be the case. Take films set during Roman times like "Spartacus" or "Gladiator," which have dialogue spoken only in English, not Latin or even a closer modern stand-in like Italian.
Then there are films with characters from different countries, yet the audience hears them all speaking the same tongue. Some handle this more cleverly than others; in "The Hunt for Red October," the Soviet characters are first heard speaking Russian before a quick switch to English -- letting the audience know while they're hearing English, the characters are hearing Russian.
"Shōgun," which recently went from mini-series to a two-season renewal, makes no attempt to hold its audience's hand. Set in 1600 Japan, Lord Yoshii...

Vanessa Kirby, who earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in Pieces of a Woman and is best known for the White Widow character she played in Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (as well as landing the role of Sue Storm in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe version of The Fantastic Four), launched a production company called Aluna Entertainment with former Film4 executive Lauren Dark back in 2021, and Variety reports that Aluna Entertainment is now in production on its first feature film. Deadpool & Wolverine Stars Tease Cassandra Nova's "Unpredictability" And Reveal Surprise Inspiration

While we've seen a lot from Deadpool & Wolverine in recent weeks, much of the threequel is shrouded in secrecy. The latest trailer offered a glimpse at the movie's villain, Cassandra Nova, though we still don't know what she's up to in The Void.
The prevailing theory is that the twisted twin sister of Professor X hails from the same reality as Deadpool & Wolverine's Logan. If she killed the X-Men before being pruned, it would go a long way in establishing Nova as a threat to the heroes and perhaps even the wider Multiverse.
In a profile of Emma Corrin on Harper's Bazaar, the actor (who uses they/them pronouns), refuses to say too much about playing the villain but confirmed Christoph Waltz's Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds was a key source of inspiration.

As expansive and iconic as its title suggests, Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West certainly seemed to be written in John Ford’s blood, from the vast wide-angle visions of Monument Valley that Leone and cinematographer Tonino Delli Colli luxuriated in, to the railroad-based, future-of-America economic landscape that serves as a backdrop to a number of bandit-versus-bandit power plays. Henry Fonda, with that methodical, stately stroll of his and those killer blue eyes barely visible from under the rim of his hat, can be seen and heard throughout, sending a shiver of great nostalgia up one’s spine. Ripened and tanned by years of desert sunlight, Ford’s Wyatt Earp is back in the saddle again.
But that particular pace and posture that Fonda had become known for in such films as My Darling Clementine, matched with the devious glint in those baby blues, now took...

Legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future released in 2022, eight years after Maps to The Stars. Thankfully, we're not going to have to wait nearly as long for the body horror maestro's next film, which is set to premiere during this year's Cannes Film Festival next week.
Titled The Shrouds, the movie stars Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), Guy Pearce (Memento) and Sandrine Holt (Fear the Walking Dead).
The first teaser trailer is now online.
The footage doesn't give us very much to go on, basically just serving as an introduction to Vincent Cassel's Karsh, "an innovative businessman and grieving widower, builds a novel device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud. This burial tool installed at his own state-of-the-art – though controversial cemetery allows him and his clients to watch their specific departed loved one decompose in real time."

German star August Diehl (Inglourious Basterds, A Hidden Life) and Oscar-nominated actress Andrea Riseborough (Birdman, To Leslie) have signed on to star in The Noise of Time, a new drama about the life of Russian composer Dimitri Shostakovich and his wife Nina, adapted from Julian Barnes’ book of the same name.
Two-time Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher Hampton (The Father, Dangerous Liaisons) is adapting Barnes’ novel for the screen, with Polish director Jan Komasa (the Oscar-nominated Corpus Christi) attached to direct.
The film will trace the trajectory of Shostakovich’s life and career, beginning in 1936 when the 30-year-old composer first faced Stalin’s wrath after one of his operas is condemned as counter-revolutionary. He escapes execution but for decades Shostakovich is forced to be a cultural representative of the Soviet state, and struggles to maintain the integrity of his music.
