Coffee may be for closers, and now acclaimed actors Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk, and Bill Burr are getting their own highly caffeinated taste of Broadway legend.
The trio will lead the revival of David Mamet’s iconic play “Glengarry Glen Ross” in Spring 2025. The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama was famously adapted into the 1992 film starring Alec Baldwin, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, and Al Pacino.
“Glengarry Glen Ross” is set in a cutthroat Chicago real estate office where four salespeople compete to sell mostly worthless properties to unwitting customers. Whoever sells the most wins a car; whoever sells the least is out of a job – a ruthless environment where each character will do anything to come out on top, per the official synopsis.
Emmy, SAG, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award winner Culkin returns to Broadway after his turn in “Succession” and the upcoming “A Real Pain.

Spoilers for "Longlegs" follow.
Will I ever rewatch "Longlegs"? It's a question I've been asking myself since I saw it. It's a great movie (with one hell of a Nicolas Cage performance as a Devil-worshiping serial killer) and I haven't stopped thinking about for plenty of other reasons. Even so, it's such an uncomfortable watch that I see it joining "The Witch" and "Hereditary" on my personal shelf of horror movies I like but can never quite get in the mood to completely rewatch.
On the other hand — second viewings of mystery movies are always more enlightening than the first. When you have all the big pieces of the puzzle assembled in your head, you can start looking for the smaller details. The "Longlegs" marketing team is leaning into that. Ahead of release, /Film praised the "Longlegs" viral marketing campaign as some of the best horror movie hyping in recent years,...

Sir Ian McKellen is now the most feared drama critic on the West End thanks to his turn in “The Critic.”
McKellen leads the adaptation of Anthony Quinn’s 2015 novel “Curtain Call,” which centers on an aging — but iconic — journalist who teams up with an actress (Gemma Arterton) to exact revenge on his newspaper’s new owner (Mark Strong). The film is set in 1934 London.
“The Critic” is written by Academy Award nominee Patrick Marber and is directed by Anand Tucker (“Hilary and Jackie,” “Shopgirl”).
The official synopsis reads: “Jimmy Erskine (McKellen) is the most feared theatre critic of the age. He lives as flamboyantly as he writes and takes pleasure in savagely taking down any actor who fails to meet his standards. When the owner of the Daily Chronicle newspaper dies, and his son David Brooke (Strong) takes over, Jimmy quickly finds himself at odds with his new boss and his position under threat.

Ten years ago this week, “Weird Al” Yankovic’s Mandatory Fun became the first comedy album to top the Billboard album chart since Allan Sherman’s My Son, the Nut in August 1963. The years following that triumph have been a busy time for Yankovic, marked by multiple world tours, a stint as the bandleader on Comedy Bang! Bang!, the recording of “The Hamilton Polka,” and the release of Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, a brilliantly twisted biopic starring Daniel Radcliffe that racked up many awards, including an Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie.

Royal Expert Reveals Princess Diana Would Approve of Daughter-in-law Kate Middleton
According to Paul Burrell, a former royal family staff member who worked in the royal household for over 21 years, Princess Kate has been one of the biggest assets to the Royal Family in recent years.
In an interview with Closer, Paul claimed that William is “steering Kate into Diana’s footsteps.”
“I see the way she dresses and the way she behaves, and if her mother-in-law could say anything, she would tell her that she’s doing an incredible job because she’s never put a foot wrong and the country adores her.”

Meghan Markle has indicated her desire to return to Hollywood, yet rumors suggest this might be increasingly difficult with Prince Harry and Meghan reportedly losing their A-list friends steadily. Paul Burrell, the late Princess Diana’s former butler, has stated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s list of celebrity acquaintances—once featuring Oprah Winfrey and George and Amal Clooney—is dwindling rapidly. Burrell commented in Closer magazine last month: Harry and Meghan’s circle is getting smaller and smaller. I think the A-list stars are dropping like flies. He added, Some already have done—Oprah no longer seems involved with them and some other...

Clive Owen has worked with many of the great filmmakers, from Robert Altman to Spike Lee and most notably Alfonso Cuarón in “Children of Men.” But Owen called his collaboration on “Closer” with filmmaker Mike Nichols “one of the highlights of his career.”
The 2004 romantic drama co-starred Julia Roberts, Jude Law, and Natalie Portman and screened recently at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival for its 20th anniversary. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Owen reflected on the process of making the film, as well as taking part in the original London production of the play.

Clive Owen has not forgotten his roots. Growing up in a working-class family in Coventry in the 1970s U.K., he yearned to explore different roles in life — and the youth wing of the city’s civic Belgrade Theatre gave him that opportunity.
More than four decades later, Owen — who most recently appeared in “Monsieur Spade” as an aging Sam Spade drawn back into the game to solve a post-World War II murder mystery in the south of France — credits that experience as the foundation for his career.
“That is where it all started for me — joining the youth theater was a life changer for me,” he tells Variety at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, where he receives the President’s Award Saturday night. “The city is still a very tough one, and places like the youth theater are a lifeline for kids like me to...

Clive Owen has never been interested in being comfortable.
From Spike Lee’s Inside Man and Alfonso Cuarón’s Children of Men to Robert Altman’s Gosford Park and Steven Soderbergh’s The Knick, the actor has worked with a range of filmmakers across an expanse of projects spanning film, television and the stage.

British royal family news divulges that poor Prince Harry is “confused” as to why he and his former basic cable actress wife Meghan Markle are estranged from his family.
Presumably he’s not confused as to why he and Meghan have cut off her family, with her ailing father left begging to meet his grandkids before he dies.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as they demand to be called while living in America, defected from the monarchy in 2020 and have insulted and berated his family what seems like every day since.
It doesn’t hurt that they have high-profile friends like Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, and a polo stud named Nachos Figueras to help them spin their narrative.

Airing from 2005 to 2012, The Closer starred Kyra Sedgwick as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, leader of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Priority Homicide Division (later the Major Crimes Division). Sedgwick earned five back-to-back Emmy nominations for her performance — winning the gold in 2010 — and The Closer begat the long-running spinoff Major Crimes. The 58th Karlovy Vary Film International Film Festival kicked off with a very personal milestone, commemorating 30 years since the event was taken over by the programming team of Jiří Bartoška and the late journalist Eva Zaoralová. The veteran actor, now 77, gave the festival cause for concern last year when health problems threatened to keep him away from the event. This year, however, Bartoška was the main focus of the traditionally baroque opening ceremony, taking us back to 1994 with memories of Nelson Mandela, TV’s Friends, cinema’s Pulp Fiction, and the first iterations of PlayStation and Bluetooth technology.
There followed a lengthy tribute to Bartoška at work, welcoming a veritable cavalcade of stars; names so famous that for a few minutes, it was possible to forget the festival’s unfortunate tendency to stick with Hollywood stars a tad too long into their wilderness periods (Mel Gibson and Johnny Depp spring...

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, reportedly extended an olive branch to the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, leading to reconciliation rumors.

This comes amid claims that Prince Harry is looking for a permanent home in the UK, with plans for him and Meghan Markle to split their time between there and the US.

Jennifer Garner once went through a highly publicized divorce with Ben Affleck. And although Affleck has since gotten married to Jennifer Lopez, Garner opted to enjoy the single life.
Jennifer Garner’s single life wasn’t what she envisioned it to be Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner | C Flanigan/WireImage
Garner and her ex-husband Affleck’s lives have gone in slightly different paths after their divorce. Affleck found himself in a relationship with former fling Jennifer Lopez years after their own break-up, which led to them marrying. Garner, however, chose to remain single for a bit. It was once reported by a source that Garner turned to friends to help her find potential men to start dating again.
“She’s moved on from Ben now and is ready to look ahead,” the source once told Closer (via Female First).
But Garner herself once shared this might’ve been far from the truth.

"I didn't feel like I really ever leaned into playing handsome," said Jude Law, speaking to DuJour in 2024. "[...] I was trying to play against my looks in my early 20s, and now that I'm saggy and balding, I wish I had played it up."
He's got a point. A survey of the English actor's roles after becoming a bigger name in the '90s reveals that he rarely played good-looking stand-up guys when he was younger. Not only that, but on those occasions where he did lean into his natural beauty, he would often play some kind of cad (like he did in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Alfie") or a character whose insecure, selfish behavior makes it difficult to appreciate his gorgeous features (like in "Closer" and "I Heart Huckabees"). "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" even went so far as to weaponize Law's looks by making them artificial and plastic-y...

Opening night at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival often lures a top talent to accept the Kviff President’s Award, in this case Viggo Mortensen, the writer/director/star of his sophomore film, western “The Dead Don’t Hurt,” co-starring Vicky Krieps, which will open in the Czech Republic on July 4.
Every year, Kviff presents a new black-and-white short film at the opening night ceremony, to serve as a trailer of sorts for the festival. This year’s main protagonist is Oscar-winning actor and producer Benicio del Toro (“Traffic”), recipient of the Kviff President’s Award in 2022. The short film was written and directed by long-time creator of Kviff trailers Ivan Zachariáš. Del Toro took time off while shooting Wes Anderson’s new film in Berlin to work with Zachariáš, who collaborated on the trailer with cinematographer Jan Velický and editor Filip Malásek, and composed the music.

Alexandros Avranas' 2018 film "Dark Crimes," starring Jim Carrey, was extrapolated from a true crime article published in the New Yorker in 2008. The article, post-modernly called "True Crime," was written by David Grann, and it told the story of a Polish novelist named Krystian Bala who murdered a small business owner named Dariusz Janiszewski in the year 2000. For three years, the police were unable to solve the case, and Bala seemed to have gotten away with it. Bala, perhaps feeling smug about his ability to evade detection for so long, decided to poke the bear a little bit. In 2003, he published a crime novel called "Amok," wherein he wrote a fictionalized version of the Janiszewski murder, including intimate details that only the killer could have known. Bala depicted his fictional self as a badass nihilist who loved quoting Nietzsche and didn't care about human laws, man. "Amok" was a big hit,...

Jude Law is ready to be challenged by screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes.
Law shared in an interview with Vanity Fair that he is set to work with “Challengers” scribe Kuritzkes on a Mike Nichols-inspired film.

Natalie Portman is an Oscar-winning actress who has been quite prolific throughout her three decade film career, but how many of her titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back at 16 of Portman’s greatest movies, ranked worst to best.
Portman made her acting debut when she was just 13-years-old with “Leon: The Professional” (1994), which cast her as a teenager teaming up with a hitman (Jean Reno) to avenge her family’s murder.
Her first Oscar nomination came just 10 years later: Best Supporting Actress for “Closer” (2004). The role of Alice, a stripper dating a writer (Jude Law) in love with another woman (Julia Roberts), brought her a Golden Globe victory, though the Academy went with Cate Blanchett (“The Aviator”) instead.
Portman didn’t go Oscar-less for too long. Just six years later, she reaped a Best Actress victory for playing an obsessive ballerina in the psychological thriller “Black Swan...

Vertical is getting ahead of the crowds as this year’s Cannes market starts wheeling and dealing for Hollywood’s hottest projects and properties. The studio acquired the U.S. rights from AGC Studios to The Order, with Justin Kurzel in the director’s chair. Based on Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt’s novel The Silent Brotherhood, The Order stars Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, and Tye Sheridan.
Here’s a synopsis of Flynn and Gerhardt’s novel courtesy of Library Journal:
Two courageous investigative journalists have created an insider’s account of the “silent brotherhood,” the anti-Jewish, white supremacist underground that, with the justification of some perversely interpreted Christian teachings, conducts an all-out race war. The movement has gathered a group of superpatriots, zealots, malcontents, as well as, rather disturbingly, a large majority of ordinary people. These followers see the underground’s survivalist creed as the way whites can protect...

“The Idea of You” is like Taylor Swift’s “Illicit Affairs.”
Several TV shows and films have featured forbidden romance, but this film included a May-December romance and character exploration uniquely.
Varied audiences will appreciate the stellar performances of Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine.
Adapted from Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, the film follows Solène (Anne Hathaway), a divorced single mom who is turning 40 and seeking direction in her life.
The film’s heart is about her self-reflection and unlikely romance with the 24-year-old lead singer of August Moon, Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine).
Solène had hoped for a weekend alone but got roped into taking her teenage daughter Izzy (Ella Rubin) and her friends to Coachella when her ex-husband, Daniel, bailed on taking them.
In an adorable meet-cute, Solène accidentally ended up in Hayes’ trailer, thinking it was the VIP restroom, and immediately formed a connection with the hunky Brit,...

In 2022, Nicholas Galitzine was on the main stage of “Coachella”, flanked by bandmates Jaiden Anthony, Raymond Cham Jr., Vik White, and Dakota Adan.
Surrounding them were 5,000 screaming fans, chanting at the top of their lungs, “August Moon! August Moon! August Moon!” For most of the guys, who are professional dancers, this was somewhat familiar, they’d performed for much bigger audiences, supporting stars like Beyoncé and Britney Spears, and dancing on national TV. But for Galitzine, this was all brand new.
Under the spotlight, the actor was playing the role of a world famous pop star — one fifth of a massively successful (fictional) boy band. So while the crowd was real, it helped that they weren’t actually in Indio, California for their set, but a couple thousand miles away on a chilly December morning in Atlanta, filming scenes for the Prime Video rom-com film, The Idea of You.

Boy Band Bootcamp whipped Nicholas Galitzine into shape to become Hayes Campbell, frontman of the fictional band August Moon in The Idea of You. The group serves as a launching pad for his whirlwind romance with Anne Hathaway’s Solène in Michael Showalter’s film, now streaming on Prime Video. The group’s backstory isn’t too far off from the tried and true narratives of real-life boy bands — executives hosting trainee camps and talent show auditions that tell hopeful solo artists: “We’ll make your dreams come true, but...

Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson’s “Scream” is often cited as the most expensive music video ever made. The director of the video hates this claim. He said that one Guns N’ Roses clip and another clip from the King of Pop cost way more.
Michael Jackson ‘Scream’ cost millions but it’s not the most expensive music video ever
Mark Romanek directed the music video for “Scream.” He also helmed the videos for Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer” and Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.” During a 2010 interview with Slashfilm, Romanek acknowledged that The Guinness Book of World Records claims “Scream” is the most expensive music video ever made due to its hefty $7 million price tag. Romanek said the book isn’t accurate.
Romanek said Guns N’ Roses made a video with oil tankers that cost $9 million or $10 million. The director couldn’t remember the name of Guns N’ Roses’ song,...

Actor Nathan Fillion’s star power grew thanks to starring in shows like Castle and The Rookie. But before those two hit shows, he considered his sci-fi cult hit Firefly as the show that kick-started his career.

Fillion initially didn’t know he’d be able to make a living from acting. In an interview with Closer, he confided that he saw acting as more of a side gig when he went to school. But getting an actual acting job that paid decently changed Fillion’s trajectory.
“I was going to finish off schooling and four months before graduation I got a job on a soap and moved to New York City. I did three years there, moved to Los Angeles on the advice of Bob Woods, who played my uncle on the show.

"The Love Boat" holds a fascinating place in pop culture history. While most of the shows with reruns playing in heavy rotation today were in some way groundbreaking upon their initial release, "The Love Boat" is a novelty the likes of which modern TV rarely – if ever – tries to emulate. An anthology-like rom-com set aboard a cruise ship, "The Love Boat" featured a revolving door of guest stars and little connective tissue to speak of aside from the cast playing the crew aboard the ship.

Clive Owen hopes to divide and conquer with his dual Emmy submissions this year.
With two competing limited series in the Emmys race, the star will be submitting his two acclaimed performances in AMC’s “Monsieur Spade” and Hulu’s “A Murder at the End of the World” in separate acting categories, Variety has learned exclusively.
For his work as detective Sam Spade in AMC’s neo-noir miniseries “Monsieur Spade,” he’ll remain as expected in the highly competitive lead actor in a limited series or TV movie race, where he’ll face potential contenders such as Jon Hamm (“Fargo”) and Tom Hollander (“Feud: Capote vs. the Swans”). However, regarding his turn in Hulu’s psychological thriller “A Murder at the End of the World,” he’ll seek Emmy consideration as a supporting actor, eyeing competition in actors like Jonathan Bailey (“Fellow Travelers”) and Lewis Pullman (“Lessons in Chemistry”), and...

When Bruce Willis announced his retirement from acting in 2022 due to his condition, his dream to play one role in a film franchise ended. Willis was a big fan of the James Bond films. After watching Javier Bardem portray an exceptional villain in Daniel Craig’s Skyfall, Willis openly stated in 2013 that he was up for playing a big baddie in the next Bond film.

Netflix has greenlit the limited series “Black Rabbit” starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law.
The series was originally announced as being in development at the streamer back in October 2022. With the greenlight announcement, it is also confirmed that Cleopatra Coleman (“Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire”), Amaka Okafor, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, and Dagmara Dominczyk will all star in the series alongside Bateman and Law.
The official logline for the series states, “When the owner of a New York City hotspot (Bateman) allows his turbulent brother (Law) back in his life, he opens the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he’s built.”
Zach Baylin and Kate Susman created the series and serve as executive producers. Bateman will direct the first two episodes and executive produce along with Michael Costigan under their Aggregate Films banner. Law and Ben Jackson will executive produce via Riff Raff Entertainment.

The great philosophers of One Direction once said: “I don’t care what people say when we’re together/You know I wanna be the one who’ll hold you when you sleep.” The deep cut, “Happily” from 2013’s Midnight Memories, would have fit perfectly into the first official trailer for The Idea of You. Adapted from Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, the film stars Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine as a 40-year-old single mother and 24-year-old boy band star, respectively, caught up in a whirlwind forbidden romance.

Film and TV studio Fifth Season has secured international distribution rights to “Monsieur Spade,” the crime drama series starring and executive produced by Clive Owen.
Fifth Season will represent the title at the upcoming Berlin European Film Market.
The six-episode series is based on Dashiell Hammett’s hard-boiled private detective Sam Spade, the protagonist of 1930 novel “The Maltese Falcon,” adapted several times for the screen, most notably in 1941 by John Huston with Humphrey Bogart as the sleuth.
In the series, the year is 1963, and legendary detective Spade (Owen) is enjoying retirement in the South of France. Spade’s life in Bozouls is peaceful and quiet, but the rumoured return of his old adversary will change everything. Six beloved nuns have been brutally murdered, and as the town grieves, secrets emerge and new leads are established. Spade learns the murders are connected to a mysterious child, who is believed to possess great powers.
