Christopher Nolan’s Brother Once Revealed How The Dark Knight Maker Was Adamant About Casting Heath Ledger As The Joker (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Heath Ledger as Joker will always be iconic, and it is too bad the actor did not live long enough to see what he has done and the impact he left on others. It was possible only because Christopher Nolan did not give in to the fans’ demands and stood his ground to cast him in the role despite facing backlash from the fan community. Jonathan Nolan once opened up about it in an old interview. Scroll below to get the deets.
For the unversed, Jonathan, Christopher Nolan’s brother, was also a screenwriter on the Christian Bale-led sequel that came out in 2008. Although Heath passed away before the release of Nolan’s movie, his portrayal of Joker is said to be one of the greatest...

The roster for Marvel Rivals continues to grow. The most recent release of Jeff the Land Shark has overturned the balance for the support/strategist role with a kit that still needs balancing.

The likes of Captain America and Mr. Fantastic are absent from the current roster. One character fans are eyeing after watching Deadpool & Wolverine is one you would least expect.

Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Dead Snow, Violent Night) is headed into the open waters for an untitled shark attack horror movie, and Deadline reports this afternoon that Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Part II) has signed on.
Phoebe Dynevor (Fair Play) and Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2) also star.
Adam McKay and Kevin Messick will produce the untitled movie for Sony, with Variety recently noting that production is expected to take place this coming summer in Australia.
“Plot details are being kept under wraps,” the site also reported back in May.
Wirkola’s project is one of many new shark attack movies in the works, with Lizzy Greene starring in High Tide and Sean Byrne directing Dangerous Animals, to name just a couple.
The prospect of a shark attack movie directed by Tommy Wirkola is particularly exciting, however, as Wirkola’s movies are always wildly entertaining and extremely bloody.

It also includes new comedies Happy’s Place and St. Denis Medical, which will be premiering with back-to-back episodes. Editor’s note: this list was originally published in July 2023. It has since been updated with new entries in honor of the Discovery Channel’s 2024 Shark Week.
There are few human obsessions that match our all-consuming fascination with sharks. They’re one of the rare animals with a national commemorative anniversary — or “holiday” depending on how invested you are in Shark Week — and their almost mythic-like status among the animal kingdom has provided endless fodder for film.
Sharks’ boneless cartilage frame places them in the classification of “elasmobranch” fish, grouping them with rays, sawfish, and skates. While it’s widely known that sharks are not as interested in feasting on human flesh as sci-fi, adventure, and horror movies portray them to be, most people would prefer not to take their chances getting close enough to confirm. With movies dating back as far as Jerry Hopper’s 1956 “The Sharkfighters” (and possibly...

Discovery’s Shark Week, the granddaddy of all summertime shark stunts, is back for its 36th installment, with actor-wrestler John Cena hosting. Another notable personality involved: Shark conservationist Paul de Gelder (above), who has brought his expertise to previous specials, returns in five new programs. (Credit: Discovery) One of those is Great White Serial Killer, in which de Gelder helps locals in a Mexican fishing village identify the great white shark behind three attacks in three years — two of them fatal. De Gelder himself survived a horrific attack when a bull shark grabbed him from below. “It removed my hamstring and my right hand in the same bite,” de Gelder tells us, “and I was forced to swim back to my safety boat with one hand and one functioning leg through a pool of my own blood.” If anyone would be justified in fearing sharks, it’s de Gelder. But the opposite is true.

Who else participated in the annual tradition of watching Jaws on the 4th of July? Every year, I hope that more merchandise will arrive, celebrating Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece. Surprisingly, Lego is answering that call!
The Orca, its crew, and the killer great white shark nicknamed “Bruce” are coming soon in Lego form! Are you ready to chum the waters with red bricks?
Lego item #21350 will start shipping on August 6. Insiders can get access to the Jaws set as early as August 8. The brick version of Jaws will cost $149.99.
Bruce and the Orca are made of 1,497 pieces. Of course, Quint, Brody, and Hooper are the three minifigures included. Sadly, the semi-digested remains of Chrissie Watkins and Alex Kintner are not included.
The Orca is very scaled down. It consists of just the cabin with the dining table. That’s Ok with me, but don’t expect to fit all three...

A Paris court has denied a request that Netflix’s hit shark thriller Under Paris be taken off the platform for the duration of a legal case brought by a director who says the feature was developed without his knowledge from an original idea he registered in 2011.
The movie, about a massive shark that terrorizes the waters of the River Seine and waterlogged sections of Paris’ underground catacomb network, launched on Netflix on June 5, and per the streamer is its most watched French language feature ever, with in excess of 84.6M views to date.
French writer and director Vincent Dietschy is suing lead producers Edouard Duprey and Sébastien Auscher and top talent agent Laurent Grégoire for “parasitism”.
Dietschy’s lawyers Héloïse de Castelnau and Anissa Ben Amor made a legal request for Under Paris to be removed from the Netflix offering while the case makes its way through the courts.

If Charlotte, South Carolina, is the beating heart of the South, New Orleans is its soul. There's the Deep South, and then there is New Orleans.
Although the Big Easy may lack the ambiance and raucous noise of New York City, it has its own resonance.
From the fog-shrouded mangroves and pendulous Spanish Moss to the colorful explosion of Bourbon Street, New Orleans is steeped in culture, vibrancy, and history distinct from anywhere else in America.
I wasn't entirely surprised to discover that Anthony Mackie was born and raised in New Orleans. He has that vibe that only comes from those who grew up between Pascagoula and Lafayette.

Nor was I surprised that sharks (mostly bull sharks) often make their way up the mighty Mississippi. Anglers catch sharks well North of the Gulf of Mexico all the time, including in Lake Pontchartrain.

Steven Spielberg has been truly remarkable throughout his long career. While there have been quite not-so-notable movies, the director’s entire filmography is enough to make even the best of the best jealous. From kickstarting the Jurassic Park franchise to Indiana Jones, many of the brilliant iconic movies of today’s age have been the creation of Spielberg.

Kentaro Miura was always a man to take things at a soft and leveled pace when it came to drafting and drawing Berserk. One of the very reasons why it is such a loved manga is because of the wide variety of stories and complexities it dives into. The pedestal it stands on is difficult to move and rightfully so.

While the series stands as one of the best, it is not without its flaws. Kazuhiko Torishima, former Dragon Ball editor pointed towards these exact flaws. As a manga that deals with the complexities of life, there is so much that goes into its making and the thoughts that compete with no one. Torishima, although acknowledging all that, could not help but notice one problem.

“You brought us to shark-infested waters the day before my wedding!” shouts Manchester bride-to-be-Lizzie (Lauren Lyle), having seen one of her party chomped on by an ocean apex predator.
Closer to the intimate, lo-fi thrills of Open Water and 47 Metres Down than the high seas camp of Deep Blue Sea and The Meg, director Hayley Easton Street’s debut feature is essentially Bridezilla vs Jaws, as a gang of gal pals, partying in the Caribbean for a destination wedding, are left stranded by not enough life jackets, one float and a leaky boat as Mr. Shark comes a-calling. The result lacks surprises, feels very familiar, perhaps working best as a cautionary tale for the kind of self-absorbed people who force their friends to pony up for ridiculously expensive nuptials abroad.

Tamayo Perry, a surfer, lifeguard and actor who held roles in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Blue Crush,” died on Sunday after being attacked by a shark in Hawaii, the BBC reported. He was 49.
According to the Associated Press, Honolulu Ocean Safety and the city’s emergency services responded around 1 p.m. to a call regarding a man who appeared to have suffered from several shark bites near Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore. Perry was then brought to shore by paramedics via jet ski and pronounced dead at the scene.
Perry was “a lifeguard loved by all,” Honolulu Ocean Safety acting chief Kurt Lager said during a press conference, according to the AP.
“He’s well known on the North Shore. He’s a professional surfer known worldwide,” Lager said. “Tamayo’s personality was infectious and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.

A group of friends finds themselves stranded at sea with a shark eyeing its next meal. Here’s our Something In The Water review.
Shark films are very in right now. Sting director Kiah Roache-Turner is working on one as is Renny Harlin, plus Netflix’s Under Paris is one of the streamer’s most watched films ever.
Hayley Easton Street is now adding her take on sharks eating people with Something In The Water. Posed as a survival thriller rather than a full-blown horror movie, the film follows a group of women, who have been reunited at a destination wedding in the Caribbean.
A fabulous day of sunbathing on a near-by island turns into a fight for survival after Ruth (Ellouise Shakespeare-Hart) is bitten by a sneaky shark in the shallow waters. The group finds themselves stranded in the shark-infested waters after Cam (Nicole Rieko Setsuko) wrecks the boat.

Steven Spielberg is now among the greatest filmmakers of all time. Heralded for making several critically accomplished movies that are now trendsetters and cult classics, Spielberg is a true auteur whose every film is a masterclass in filmmaking. However, his career might have looked very different now had he been fired from his first true blockbuster, Jaws.

Had one studio executive not stood up for Speilberg, Jaws might have never been made or would have been an entirely new movie and Spielberg’s career would have mapped out a lot differently.

The hot weather can only mean one thing: It’s time for summer, and that means plenty of shark programming. National Geographic, leading into World Ocean Day, has unveiled its lineup of new content for this year’s annual SharkFest. It all begins on June 30 at 9/8c with Shark Beach with Anthony Mackie: Gulf Coast, the next installment in the franchise with the Marvel superhero (who also executive produces). That leads to Shark vs. Ross Edgley, in which the ultra-athlete swimmer, world record holder, and shark advocate attempts to pit his mind and body against four of the most formidable sharks in the ocean. SharkFest takes viewers up close and personal with sharks while also highlighting the importance of conservation and taking care of the planet’s oceans and beaches, and it features scientific experts, cutting-edge technology, and first-of-its-kind research where viewers can discover even more groundbreaking insights about the ocean’s most fearsome predator.

Robert Downey Jr. has cemented a strong legacy who literally rose from rock-bottom to gain worldwide fame with his Iron Man role in the MCU. Apart from his superhero role, he continued showcasing his versatile acting skills in different projects ranging from comedy to drama. Although his acting prowess is enough to convince you that his personality is what his character shows on-screen, in reality, he’s quite a goofy one.

Plot: Sophia, a brilliant scientist comes to realize that a large shark is swimming deep in the waters near Paris.
Review: There’s something about shark movies that gets to me on a primal level. Sure, there’s still just the one good one but something about them increases my anxiety to unreal heights. The surface of the water hides all the mysteries and horror beneath it, and I have a very active imagination. So my ears perked up when it was announced that Xavier Gens would be entering the world of shark horror. Because even when he doesn’t entirely hit (like this year’s Mayhem) he still manages to provide a technically proficient film with consistent momentum.

The familiar touchstones of summer shark horror are there in spades in French filmmaker Xavier Gens’ (Frontier(s), Cold Skin) Netflix feature Under Paris. Jaws and eco-horror collide as a Mako shark goes rogue right at the peak of summer’s busy season. As its title suggests, the novelty here comes in the form of its setting: the Seine River and Paris’ labyrinthine underground system. The unique location and stunning underwater photography go far in Gens’ latest, but not far enough: an overreliance on a familiar story and clashing tones work against the summer shark carnage.
An intense opening introduces scientist Sophia (Bérénice Béjo) as she and her team, including her lover, investigate a trash island out at sea. They find the carcass of a baby sperm whale trapped and starved by the debris, which then attracts sharks. That includes Lilith, a tagged female Mako that Sophia’s team has been tracking.

After breaking into Hollywood in the 1970s, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas laid the groundwork for modern blockbuster cinema. The duo is also known for collaborating on hits like the Indiana Jones film series, which has become a cinematic icon over the years. Both have also expressed their joy in working together and their mutual admiration.

Following the success of Steven Spielberg’s 1975 cinematic masterpiece Jaws, which captivated audiences with its tense and frightening portrayal of a great white shark terrorizing a beach town, the movie became an inspiration for upcoming thrillers. But there was one film in particular that shockingly used Jaws as a humorous dig.

Well, in 1978, after Universal Studios released the sequel to Jaws, director Joe Dante came up with Piranha, which was a playful parody version of Steven Spielberg’s suspenseful thriller. Taking a humorous approach, exaggerating the dangers of a school of deadly piranhas, the movie deliberately departed from Jaws’ serious and suspenseful tone.
However, Joe Dante’s campy spoof movie seemingly annoyed Universal Studios, which almost led to a lawsuit, until Steven Spielberg intervened to save the day.

Nowadays, it seems like a quaint notion that a television series might stay on the air long enough to run out of ideas.
But almost fifty years ago, even a successful show like Happy Days wasn't immune to using outlandish stunts to bolster ratings.
And thank goodness for that, or we might all have been deprived of the cultural touchstone that is Fonzie jumping the shark.
Fonzie Jumps the Shark (And Enters History)
The phrase "jump the shark" has become shorthand for the moment when a television show loses its creative way and begins a downward spiral in quality and popularity.
However, when the actual shark jump happened in the "Hollywood: Part 3" episode of the show's fifth season, Happy Days hit number one in the Nielsen ratings.
The series aired for another six well-received seasons and even had successful spinoffs in the sitcoms Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy.

New shark movies these days often come with an overwhelming, not to mention frustrating sense of déjà vu. That’s largely because filmmakers have resigned themselves to rehashing the same ideas, over and over again. Something in the Water treads familiar waters, seeing as the characters here also find their vacation in ruins once they leave the beach. To be fair, this movie starts out differently than most others made in recent years; the main character is dealt a rather unfortunate card long before stepping into shark-infested waters. However, nothing that follows ever quite feels as scary or effective.
Something in the Water does what a lot of modern genre movies do now: they preface trauma with more trauma. A deadly shark encounter should be traumatic all on its own, but director Hayley Easton Street and writer Cat Clarke don’t think that’s enough for Meg (Hiftu Quasem) to endure in one lifetime.

Exclusive: Matt Lanter (Jupiter’s Legacy) and newcomer Sophia Esperanza have joined Prime Video’s Motorheads cast in recurring roles, Deadline has learned exclusively.
From writer-showrunner John A. Norris, Motorheads is about first love, first heartbreak, and turning the key in your very first car. Set in a once-thriving rust-belt town that’s now searching for a glimmer of hope, the series is the adrenaline-filled story of a group of outsiders who form an unlikely friendship over a mutual love of automobiles. And while some characters will be navigating the hierarchy and rules of high school, others will be racing from a dark past.
The series also includes previously announced stars Ryan Phillippe, Nathalie Kelley, Michael Cimino, Melissa Collazo, Uriah Shelton, Drake Rodger, Johnna Dias-Watson, Josh Macqueen and Mia Healey.
Lanter will portray Darren, a wealthy and powerful father of 17-year-old Harris (Macqueen), who, like his dad, is a serious street racer.
