In the days leading up to the Oct. 20 release of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, The Lyric cinema in Fort Collins, Colorado, fielded some unusual calls from customers. They all wanted to know if the Western crime epic, which runs three hours and 26 minutes, would have an intermission. And, if not, could one be added?
The art house cinema obliged and inserted an eight-minute break. It wasn’t long before a customer’s photo of an ad highlighting the intermission went viral and The Lyric received a call from Paramount, which is distributing the film, saying it had violated the booking contract and fines could be levied. “We didn’t know we had done anything wrong,” says Lyric manager Aaron Varnell, who recently added “chaos cultivator” to his title in a nod to challenging times.

Vladimir Duthiers has a new topic that he can discuss in his regular “What To Watch” segments on CBS Mornings” — himself.
Duthiers, who has worked as a correspondent and fill-in on the program since 2019, has seen his role grow over time. He typically delivers segments on some of the trending items of the morning, and, more recently, took part in reports showing how he was preparing for the arrival of his newborn child. Now, his ties to the A.M. property will be even tighter. Duthiers has been elevated to “featured host” at the show.
“With fatherhood and now this solidifying of my role on the morning show, my head is spinning,” says Duthiers.
It may rotate even further. While his “Mornings” job gets a new spotlight, Duthiers will continue with his work on CBS News’ streaming properties, where he co-anchors a mid-morning block. Straddling both linear and broadband jobs...

Exclusive: Xumo, the free streaming outlet acquired two years ago by Comcast, is launching a channel aimed at helping viewers find programming on its free, ad-supported linear offerings.
The new “what to watch” destination, which Comcast says is the first of its kind in the world of Fast (increasingly a focus for major streaming players), is shaped by editorial film and TV curators at Xfinity, Comcast’s longtime pay-tv and broadband interface.
The curation element, which Xfinity has featured for years, is seen as a potent tool for engaging viewers. According to Comcast, initial trials of curated content on Xumo in 2021 got five times the average level of streaming starts or clicks and 5.6 times the average number of viewing hours.
The Xfinity What to Watch channel will feature movies and TV shows picked by editors and organized by theme. In a blog post, Comcast said the goal is to offer...

When Nate Burleson joins Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil as co-host of CBS’s morning show next month, the program will have a new look, theme and name: CBS Mornings.
The changes, to launch on Sept. 7, will connect all of the morning shows together with some of the elements of its long running CBS Sunday Morning, which has long topped its time period on weekends, including the use of the sun logo and trumpet music, Gottfried Reiche’s Abblasen.
The first hour of the weekday broadcast will still be devoted to hard news and conversation, while the second hour will feature expanded feature reporting, a central part of the Sunday show, as well as live interviews, arts and culture pieces from Anthony Mason, who recently was co-host, and Vlad Duthiers with the What to Watch segment.
In addition to Burleson’s debut, CBS Mornings will broadcast from a new Times Square studio,...

“CBS This Morning” anchor Gayle King became emotional on air Tuesday morning while discussing two racially charged incidents involving black men that transpired on Monday.
Visibly shaken, King told viewers: “I am speechless. I am really, really speechless about what we’re seeing on television this morning. It feels to me like open season … and that sometimes it’s not a safe place to be in this country for black men.”
King was responding to “CBS This Morning’s” report on the shocking case involving a white woman in Central Park who was recorded on cell phone video by a black man as she calls in a false accusation to 911 that the man is threatening her life. The video has stirred widespread outrage as it evokes the long history of false accusations against black men that have led to death, imprisonment and other grave consequences for the wrongly accused.
