Platz vier gehört aktuell „Dune: Part Two“ mit 710 Mio. Dollar Kasse, gefolgt von „Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire“, der 570 Mio. Dollar umsetzen konnte.

Hey, did you know "Deadpool & Wolverine" has cameos? Of course you did, because this movie is so stuffed with guest appearances that it is, as /Film's Chris Evangelista put it, a disappointing cameo-fest. Whether you were actually disappointed by the sheer level of cameo-ism on display in the movie will depend on several factors, such as how much of a Marvel fan you are and how seriously you take the film. Viewed as a light-hearted piece of box office entertainment, the constant guest spots can actually make "Deadpool & Wolverine" a grand old time at the movies, especially if you're a fan of the erstwhile 20th Century Fox Marvel films.
Part-way through the movie, it essentially becomes an homage to the now defunct universe established by Fox, which was subsumed by Disney back in 2019. That means we got cameos from an impressive array of Fox Marvel stars, including Jennifer Garner's Elektra,...

Denis Villenueve approached his first "Dune" film by adapting only half of Frank Herbert's original novel, betting he could tell the story's second chunk in a sequel. This gambit paid off when "Dune" became a box office success, but it meant holding back some characters for "Part Two."
Among them was Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, nephew of Baron Vladimir and Paul Atreides' (Timothee Chalamet) counterpart. Feyd made his debut in "Dune: Part Two" played by Austin Butler, and what a debut it was. Like in the book, Feyd celebrates his birthday in the gladiatorial pits of Harkonnen homeworld Giedi Prime, killing three drugged Atreides captives. If you want a taste of what a science-fiction version of "Gladiator" would look like, there you go.
Villenueve's realization of the scene is memorable for two reasons. One, Butler, who intuitively chooses to do an impression of Stellan Skarsgård -- the actor playing his uncle...

Die verloren gegangenen NBA-Rechte an Konkurrent Amazon haben zur Folge, dass Warner Bros. Discovery eine Milliarden-Dollar-Summe auf das Network-Geschäft im zweiten Quartal abschreibt.
Wbd-ceo David Zaslav (Credit. Wbd)
Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Discovery is taking a hefty non-cash impairment charge, or write-down, of $9.1 billion at its networks division to align the book value of its linear television business with the reality of uncertain advertising and sports rights renewals as the NBA is set to move on.
The value of the linear assets when Discovery and Warner Media merged two and half year ago was significantly higher that it is now as consumers migrated and advertising dipped. That’s across the industry. A difference with David Zaslav-led Wbd versus other big media companies is that it just lost a lucrative basketball package to Amazon. Wbd had matching rights and is suing the NBA to get the games back, but no one seems to think it can prevail. Zaslav had indicated early in the renewal process that the company didn’t absolutely need the NBA, but the lawsuit calls the loss a massive blow,...

Warner Bros. Discovery has at long last crossed 100 million direct-to-consumer subscribers — but that will not be what the second quarter of 2024 is remembered for. No, the history books will mark spring 2024 as the time Wbd realized its TV networks were worth $9 billion less than it originally thought.
President and CEO David Zaslav doesn’t want to talk about it. His prepared remarks accompanying the company’s Q2 2024 financials:
“At Warner Bros. Discovery, our top priority is our global direct-to-consumer business and we are extremely pleased with the growing momentum we are seeing, as demonstrated by another strong quarter of growth with 3.6 million net adds, fueled by our ongoing international expansion and investment in high quality, diverse content. “A Complete Unknown,” a Bob Dylan biopic dramatizing the “Dylan goes electric” phase of his career (when he switched from acoustic to electric instrumentation) and starring Timothée Chalamet as the singer/songwriter, has a new date courtesy of Searchlight Pictures. The James Mangold-directed movie will bow on Christmas Day, firmly cementing its place in this year’s awards race.
Mangold directed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Jay Cocks, based on the nonfiction book “Dylan Goes Electric!” by Elijah Wald. The movie features a starry cast of famous people playing real-life figures, like Edward Norton (as Pete Seeger), Elle Fanning (as Sylvie Russo), Monica Barbaro (as Joan Baez), Boyd Holbrook (as Johnny Cash) and Scoot McNairy (as Woody Guthrie).
“A Complete Unknown” was produced by Fred Berger, Alex Heineman, Peter Jaysen, Bob Bookman, Alan Gasmer, Jeff Rosen, Chalamet and Mangold.

Independent studio A24 may have scored one of the most sought-after casts of the year. Sources confirm that Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are in early negotiations to headline director Kristoffer Borgli’s new project, titled “The Drama.”
The film would continue the success both actors have found balancing mainstream blockbusters with critically-acclaimed indies. Zendaya just dominated the box office with her role in “Dune: Part Two” and shone in the tennis drama “Challengers,” while Pattinson most recently donned the bat suit for “The Batman” and has worked with auteur directors like Robert Eggers.
Though plot details are under tight wraps, “The Drama” is said to revolve around a romance that takes an intriguing detour as a couple prepares to walk down the aisle. Borgli made waves at Cannes with “Sick of Myself” and his comedic skills were on display in “Dream Scenario,” signaling he’ll bring a singular vision.

A24 has a very starry new film on the way, with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson in early negotiations for “The Drama.” It’s the latest film from “Dream Scenario” filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli, who will both write and direct.
While plot specifics are being kept under wraps, it is suggested that the movie is a romance that takes an unexpected turn before a wedding day.
A24 is set to finance and produce “The Drama,” with Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen and Tyler Campellone producing under their Square Peg banner.
“The Drama” is the latest collaboration between A24 and Square Peg; earlier films include “Hereditary” and “Midsommar” (both directed by Aster), plus the upcoming “Death of a Unicorn,” starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega. They also have Aster’s ambitious “Eddington,” starring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone on the way.

Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are in early talks to star in “The Drama,” helmed and written by “Dream Scenario” director Kristoffer Borgli.
Project details are still being kept under wraps, but rumors suggest it’s a romance that takes an unexpected turn before the couple’s big day.

Legendary director David Lynch is giving an update on his health.
The Blue Velvet director and Twin Peaks creator says he’s been diagnosed with emphysema from many years of smoking and that he’s now housebound. He says he cannot leave his home over fears he’ll get Covid.
“I’ve gotten emphysema from smoking for so long and so I’m homebound whether I like it or not,” the 78-year-old Lynch told Sight & Sound (via The Independent). “It would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold.”
The director added he “can only walk a short distance before” running out of oxygen.
Lynch noted he’s unlikely to direct a film again, unless he could shoot a film remotely. “I would do it remotely if it comes to it,” he said. “I wouldn’t like that so much.”

"Dune" is an interesting science-fiction world because it is extremely fantastical in many places, like the Spice Guild's mutant navigators, the anti-gravity attack of "Dune: Part Two," everything about the giant worms, and of course, "God Emperor of Dune," a story so bizarre only a cartoon has dared adapt it. And yet, it is also a world that is clearly meant to be based in our universe. In the books, the Atraides trace their line back to ancient Greece, and Paul reads from a book that talks about Earth, or Old Terra, the planet thought to be where humanity originated. Paul even compares himself to Genghis Khan and Hitler at one point.
The line between the fantastical and the grounded is rather thin in "Dune," and in Denis Villeneuve's adaptations we almost got some very specific and contemporary Canadian lingo make its way to Arrakis. As Josh Brolin told Collider,...

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s MCU entry, Deadpool & Wolverine, has turned out to be one hell of an entertaining ride ever since it was released worldwide on July 26. Posed to become a potential blockbuster even before its release, the movie, as was expected, has already broken countless box office and Marvel records and more.

It’s no secret that the Covid-19 pandemic upended the movie theater business in 2020, but in the years since, the industry has slowly climbed back. In 2021, 14 movies were able to cross the coveted $100 million mark at the U.S. box office. In 2022, that number jumped up to 18 films. And in 2023, there were a whopping 25 such blockbusters. So how many features released during the current 2024 calendar year will end up becoming box office behemoths? Stay tuned.
To date, the biggest money-makers of the year are a pair of highly anticipated sequels: “Inside Out 2” and “Dune: Part Two.” Scroll through our gallery above (or click here for direct access) to see all of the 2024 box office hits so far that made more than $100 million in the United States. The number will continue to grow as high-profile movies like “Wicked” and “Mufasa: The Lion King” will be released later in the year.

As we progress into 2024, the box office situation remains disappointing. While Inside Out 2 made a significant impact and helped revive the box office this summer, and Deadpool & Wolverine continued that momentum, the overall performance is still lackluster.
Earlier this year, we reported that the box office was experiencing one of its worst years in recent history. Although several potential hits were on the horizon, the improvement didn’t begin until Inside Out 2 debuted, becoming the first—and so far only—film of the year to surpass $1 billion globally.
In a recent report, Variety confirms that despite some improvements, the situation remains bleak. While revenue is increasing, it falls far short of the levels seen in recent years, indicating that overall conditions are still not improving.
If you recall from our previous reports, George Miller’s Furiosa was expected to be a major box office hit following Dune: Part 2.

We’re deep into 2024 territory as of the time of writing, but the situation at the 2024 box office is not really improving. We knew that Inside Out 2 did an amazing job and that it basically saved the box office this summer, and Deadpool & Wolverine continued on that same high note, but despite these two movies, the overall situation is still not well.
Earlier this year, we reported that the box office was the worst one in years, and despite a lot of potential hits coming in, the situation had not started to improve until Inside Out 2 came out, becoming the first and so far only film of the year to reach $1 billion worldwide.

The self-proclaimed Marvel Jesus is in for a big second coming. “Deadpool & Wolverine” is dominating the charts again after earning $28.3 million on Friday. As the Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman superhero two-hander enters its sophomore frame, it has already surpassed a $300 million domestic total and now ranks as the second-highest-grossing domestic release of the year so far, surging past “Despicable Me 4” and “Dune: Part Two.”
What’s more, “Deadpool & Wolverine” seems primed to put up a much stronger hold than the average comic book adaptation. Superhero blockbusters can often see big drops in their second weekends after the first surge of fans have rushed to see the film. Rivals are putting the Disney release at a 55% drop though, demonstrating that “Deadpool & Wolverine” has immense appeal beyond Marvel diehards. The sequel has also maintains its play in premium large-format venues, like Imax auditoriums, this weekend.

Eager to read the internet’s longest most “in-depth” reviews of the week’s biggest — and smallest — new films, but don’t want to suffer the eyesore of pop-ads or sift through the toxic slurry that is social media? Itching to go to the movies, but tragically unaware that Janus is touring a 4K restoration of the 1982 sci-fi marvel that inspired everything from “Cowboy Bebop” to “Scavengers Reign”? Looking for a direct portal to the dark and twisted mind of the film critic who decided to omit “Dune: Part 2” from IndieWire’s mid-year list of 2024’s best movies, and receive exclusive clues in the internet’s ongoing search to figure out what’s wrong with him?
Well, if you answered “yes” (or even shrugged a semi-polite “I guess?”) in response to any of those rhetorical questions, then we have some very good news for you: IndieWire’s David Ehrlich has started a newsletter.

The U.K. and Ireland box office hit £103.3 million ($132.5 million) in July, marking the strongest monthly performance since December 2023, according to numbers from Comscore.
Despite this uptick, the year-to-date total remains 14% behind 2023’s figures, largely due to the absence of a “Barbenheimer”-level phenomenon this summer.
Universal’s “Despicable Me 4” led the pack with £28.2 million after three weeks. The animated sequel has already surpassed the lifetime gross of the original “Despicable Me” (£20.2 million) and is tracking 4% ahead of “Despicable Me 3” at the same point. It currently stands as the third-biggest release of 2024, behind only “Inside Out 2” and “Dune: Part II.”
“Deadpool & Wolverine” landed at No. 2 with £25.3 million in just eight days. The Marvel entry from Disney scored the year’s highest three-day opening at £12.6 million and set a new record for 15-rated releases. Among superhero titles, only six films have opened higher in the territory.

Timothée Chalamet has slowly risen his ranks in the industry and become the quintessential director’s actor. Everybody wants to work with him as the actor has an enormous talent and is keen on doing various types of genres. With Wonka and Dune: Part Two‘s success, people are already eyeing what Chalamet does next.

This year, Florence Pugh joined the ensemble cast of Dune: Part Two as Princess Irulan. It was a reunion project for her and Chalamet as they worked before in 2019’s Little Women. It seems the duo had too much fun on sets of Dune 2 that they had to be separated by director Denis Villeneuve who called the Black Widow star mischievous.

“Final Cut” means a director gets the last word on editing a movie. But usually, contracts and studio decisions don’t let this happen. So, many directors end up just working on projects without having any real control.
Still from Dune (1984) (Universal Pictures)
As a result, even if the final version of a movie pleases the audience, it often doesn’t fully satisfy because it may lack the depth and originality that the director’s vision would have provided. The filmmaker plays a crucial role in interpreting the script and bringing the story to life. If the their vision isn’t considered, the chances of poor reviews are high. This is exactly what happened to David Lynch when he directed Dune.

While it’s far too early to speculate on what movies will be nominated at next year’s Oscars (Dune: Part Two? Madame Web? A straight-to-streaming Sharknado sequel starring the Hawk Tuah girl?), the Academy has already been actively trying to lock down a host. Reportedly, Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney have been offered the gig, but both have turned it down.
This is especially disappointing news for Mulaney fans, who have been clamoring for him to host ever since he killed at the Academy’s Governors Awards and delighted the crowd at last year’s Oscars, when he presented the award for Achievement in Sound and reminded us all of the magic of the movies how downright goofy Field of Dreams really was.

Last year, there was a massive uproar when “Barbie” filmmaker Greta Gerwig was left off of the Best Director lineup at the Oscars, despite the blockbuster movie reaping eight total nominations including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay (for Gerwig and Noah Baumbach). “Anatomy of a Fall” helmer Justine Triet, who won the prize for Best Original Screenplay, did wind up earning a directing bid, and it was only the ninth such time in Academy Awards history for a woman. So will the upcoming 2025 Oscars include any female Best Director nominees? Let’s consult Gold Derby’s Oscar Experts.

Before becoming a worldwide sensation, Zendaya began her acting career with the Disney sitcoms, Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover. Later, she made her feature film debut with Spider-Man: Homecoming and went on to star in some highly successful theatrical projects. Yet, early in her career, the actress had a major setback after failing to land a role in the Disney channel franchise, Descendants.

According to the latest interview with a former Disney channel executive, Zendaya desperately wanted to be a part of the Disney channel’s Descendants franchise. Sadly, even after auditioning repeatedly, the Euphoria fame could not land the role. However, it is notable that her failure may have been a blessing for her career as it could have affected her casting in MCU’s Spider-Man.

M. Night Shyamalan’s “Trap” lands in theaters on Friday, but the twisted thriller won’t stand a chance on box office charts against the reigning champion, Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
“Trap” is targeting $15 million to $20 million in its opening weekend and will compete for second place with Universal’s disaster epic “Twisters.” The Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones-led film is estimated to add $17 million to 19 million in its third frame. So far, “Twisters” has grossed $154 million domestically and $220 million globally. This weekend’s other new release, Sony’s kid-friendly “Harold and the Purple Crayon,” is aiming for a bleak $6 million to $7 million to start.
Despite two newcomers, “Deadpool & Wolverine” will continue to rule the box office in its second weekend of release. Ticket sales could decline anywhere from 55% to 65% from its stellar $211 million debut, which would result in roughly $75 million to $95 million in its sophomore outing.

Before Zendaya had leading roles in such blockbusters as “Dune: Part Two” and Marvel’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, she was known as a teen star on the Disney Channel series “Shake It Up” and “K.C. Undercover.” And, according to a former Disney Channel casting executive, the actor could’ve been associated with another major project from the network: the “Descendants” franchise.
Cornelia Frame, former vice president of casting and talent relations at Disney Channel, revealed in a recent interview on the “Magical Rewind” podcast that Zendaya auditioned for an undisclosed role in “Descendants.”

“All Quiet on the Western Front” took the 2023 Oscars by storm, racking up nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. The German film won Best International Feature, Best Score, Best Cinematography and Best Production Design, but its BAFTA-nominated director, Edward Berger, was snubbed despite the Best Adapted Screenplay bid he shared with Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell. Now Berger seeks redemption with his 2024 thriller “Conclave,” which looks like an early Oscar favorite according to our current Gold Derby odds.
“Conclave” is a psychological thriller based on Robert Harris‘ 2016 novel of the same name. In the film, Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with leading one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events, selecting a new Pope, where he finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could shake the very foundation of The Church. It was scripted by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Straughan (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”).

With all the excitement coming out of Comic-Con for Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus panel, fans can tell the filmmaker gets it. For those of us who saw Alien and Aliens in the cinema opening night in 1979 and 1986, along with the screams and cheers from the audience, he knows what a Alien movie should be! He’s sticking with canon and it’s going to be vicious fun.
With an energetic enthusiasm for the franchise, Alvarez decided to go back to the basics when shooting the film. “I knew that I wanted to take this chapter back to the beginning, not only story-wise but in terms of visual style,” explains Alvarez. “I wanted to keep it simple and focus on a few characters you could get to know and love.”
A new sneak peek from Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus has been released. Check it out, as well as these scary new posters.

Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney have both passed on the job of hosting the next Oscars on March 2, Variety has confirmed.
Kimmel, a four-time Oscar host, reportedly turned down the gig earlier this summer. Mulaney, whose presenting routine was one of the highlights of this year’s show and who also hosted the Governors Awards, has a busy schedule with several projects coming up. His talk show “Everybody’s in L.A.” could also get renewed by Netflix, according to Puck, which first reported the hosting news.
The Academy declined to comment.
A four-time emcee for the annual ceremony, Kimmel is currently tied for the fourth most hosting duties with Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon. He sits behind Johnny Carson (5), Billy Crystal (9) and Bob Hope (19).
Mulaney, who hosted the Governors Awards in January and presented at the 96th Academy Awards, had become a favorite among awards enthusiasts to take up the mantle.

“A Complete Unknown” debuted its trailer on July 24, and it’s already paying dividends for star Timothee Chalamet in our Oscar odds for Best Actor. As of this writing he’s within striking distance of a nomination. Make or update your forecasts now here in our predictions center.
“A Complete Unknown” is that classic Oscars genre: the music biopic. It focuses on Bob Dylan (played by Chalamet) in the early years of his career.
