Deadpool & Wolverine, which is in its third week in the theaters, starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, was, for the majority of fans, the most anticipated movie of the year. Since its premiere, which happened three weeks ago, the movie has broken several box office records and is one of the most lucrative films of the year. This weekend, the film finally managed to surpass the $1 billion mark and is currently the second-highest-grossing film of the year.
And while Deadpool & Wolverine probably won’t surpass Inside Out 2‘s amazing $1.5 billion overall, it will definitely remain in the top as far as 2024 is concerned. At the same time, It Ends with Us, starring Blake Lively, wife of Ryan Reynolds, hit theaters this week, and while many analysts believe that this movie, which is based on a best-selling book by Colleen Hoover, could dethrone Deadpool & Wolverine...

Following a successful stint as Cara Dune in Disney’s The Mandalorian, Gina Carano is now in the news for a different reason. The actress is suing Disney, alleging that her dismissal from the franchise was unjust.
Carano’s exit followed a series of controversial social media posts in which she compared anti-vaxxers to Jews and addressed other sensitive topics, which clashed with modern sensibilities and Disney’s image. While her departure was officially attributed to a contract non-renewal, many interpret it as a termination.
Carano has filed a lawsuit against her former employer, with the case financed by Elon Musk, a prominent advocate for free speech, particularly on his recently acquired social media platform X, where much of the controversy unfolded.
The court has recently denied Disney’s attempt to dismiss the lawsuit, ruling that the company failed to demonstrate that the hiring of actors was based on maintaining a positive public image.

After a successful run as Cara Dune in Disney’s ‘The Mandalorian,’ Gina Carano is making headlines for a different reason. The well-known actress is suing Disney over what she claims was an unjust dismissal from the franchise.
Carano’s departure came after a series of controversial social media posts, where she compared anti-vaxxers to Jews and addressed other sensitive issues that clashed with modern sensibilities and Disney’s image. Although officially, her contract was not renewed, many view it as a firing.
Carano sued her former employer, and the lawsuit is financed by Elon Musk, a businessman and staunch fighter for freedom of speech, especially on his recently purchased social media platform X on which the whole incident played out.
The court recently refused Disney’s notion to dismiss the lawsuit on the grounds that the company failed to prove that they hired the actors on the basis of promoting their good public image.

For the second week in a row, the comedy Pilot topped South Korea’s box office charts. According to figures from Lotte Entertainment, Pilot earned $5.03 million from Friday to Sunday, capturing nearly half of the total box office revenue for the weekend. Since its release twelve days ago, the film has made $20.3 million and attracted over three million viewers.
Pilot’s success is notable in an otherwise slow summer season for Korean cinemas. Box office returns have been lower than usual despite warmer weather typically boosting theater attendance. However, Pilot has resonated with audiences through its lighthearted story about a fictional airline pilot’s amusing adventures and mishaps. Positive word-of-mouth reviews and fans of the lead actors have contributed to the film maintaining momentum.

Deadpool & Wolverine enjoyed another stay at the top of the box-office weekend as the film managed to hold the top spot for a third consecutive week.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Releasing saw It Ends with Us debut in second place this weekend where it brought in $50.0 million for the studio. Last weekend’s second-place film, Universal Pictures’ Twisters dropped to third place where it brought in $15.0 million this weekend, lifting its four-week total to $222.3 million. This weekend’s biggest theatrical release was the novel-based romantic drama “It Ends with Us,” starring Blake Lively, taking on the seemingly unstoppable “Deadpool and Wolverine” juggernaut. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Although Lively’s movie did very well, better than some expected, “Deadpool and Wolverine” stayed on top for a third weekend in a row with $54.2 million, down just 44% to bring its domestic total to $494.3 million. Marvel Studios’ latest is just one or two days away from hitting the $500 million milestone, a benchmark achieved by a mere 21 movies — see the complete list.
The Ryan Reynolds–Hugh Jackman blockbuster grossed another $57.8 million internationally this weekend for an overseas total of $535.2 million, and sure enough, it crossed the $1 billion mark globally, remaining the second-biggest blockbuster of 2024. Another landmark of note is the $78 million the movie has made on global IMAX screens, divided at $41.3 million domestic and $36.7 million international.

Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” (Disney) is the #1 film for its third week with $54 million and $494 million domestic so far. That’s a headline story, but the bigger news is the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s massive bestseller “It Ends with Us” (Sony). A romantic drama that deals with spousal abuse resonated with audiences worldwide, opening to an astounding $50 million in the U.S. and Canada.
Another title made the wrong kind of headlines. “Borderlands” (Lionsgate), based on a very popular 2009 game, debuted at only $8.8 million.
A $25 million romantic drama squarely targeted for women outperformed a $115 million videogame adaptation by nearly 6x. Cinemascore for “It Ends” is A-; for “Borderlands,” D+.
Expectations for “It Ends” were modest, perhaps $50 million domestic after an opening in the mid-teens, but it’s now a contender for the month’s top film; its best competition arrives next week with “Alien: Romulus” (Disney). “Borderlands” was...

Updated: As we reported earlier today, Deadpool & Wolverine this weekend crossed the $1B global box office milestone, a major feat and with swagger to spare. But, hey, there’s a lot going on at turnstiles alongside the Merc with the Mouth.
Impressively, a female-driven title that cost peanuts is making bank. To wit: Sony and Wayfarer Studios’ It Ends With Us has had a mega $80M global opening. The international box office portion of that, before a lot of other markets weigh in, is $30M. Notably still to come are France, Germany, Colombia, Thailand, Indonesia, Italy, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea and Japan.
The adaptation of the best-selling novel by Colleen Hoover is just getting started with a third of the overseas footprint left to come and word of mouth chomping along. The film ranked in the Top 2 spots in 32 markets, running alongside Deadpool & Wolverine, and was No. 1 in 12 markets.

Let's f*cikng go!
We knew Deadpool and Wolverine was well on its way to hitting $1 billion, and Marvel Studios' first R-rated movie has now officially passed that huge global box office milestone.
After taking in $495 million domestically along with $535 million from international markets, the Shawn Levy-directed superhero team-up has amassed $1.03 billion worldwide, which means it's now just days away from passing Joker’s $1.06 billion haul to become the highest-grossing R-rated film in history.
This also makes Deadpool and Wolverine the second highest-grossing movie of 2024 after Disney's Inside Out 2, and the first MCU instalment to hit $1 billion since Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Marvel Studios has not been having the easiest time of things recently, with its last few movies underperforming (The Marvels actually ended up being the studio's lowest-grossing film) amid mixed/negative reviews. If there wasn't already plans in place to have Logan (Hugh Jackman) and the...

Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” has pushed past the $1 billion mark at the global box office after only three weekends. While it still hasn’t beaten 2019’s “Joker” as the highest-grossing “R” rated film at the box office, it will soon.
Weekend estimates put “Deadpool & Wolverine” at $54 million domestically for a total of $494 million. Internationally, the total has hit $535 million, giving the film about $1.02 billion. This is still shy of “Joker” at $1.07 billion.
I think “Deadpool & Wolverine” will overtake “Joker” soon.
This is all good news for Disney, as they now have back-to-back films that have each earned over $1 billion! “Inside Out 2” is set to earn $1.6 billion soon! It is creeping up on the 9th largest box office film of all time, the live-action “Lion King” at $1.66 billion.

It was husband vs wife this weekend at the top of the box office charts, with Blake Lively’s romantic drama, It Ends With Us, battling it out for the top spot with hubby Ryan Reynolds’s box office behemoth, Deadpool & Wolverine. In the end, the superhero team-up movie managed to hold on to the top spot for a third weekend in a row, grossing an outstanding $54 million, which is only a 44% drop since last week (that’s a great hold), with the film likely to cross the $500 million mark at the domestic box office by mid-week.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” has officially crossed the billion dollar mark at the box office, adding one more shattered record to the pile the Marvel film is collecting. So, we figured it’s about time we round them up.
Resurrecting Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine (kind of), the threequel properly brings the 20th Century Fox superhero films — from back when it was still 20th Century Fox, pre-Disney merger — into the behemoth that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
When Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) finds out that his universe is dying, and soon to be helped to that death even faster by a rogue Time Variance Authority (Tva) agent, he recruits Logan (Jackman) to help him save said universe. The movie is the MCU’s first R-rated film, and as you’d expect, contains a whole bunch of swearing, along with potentially even more surprises.

Two very different films are giving the August box office a rush of new energy, as Sony/Wayfarer’s “It Ends With Us” has earned a superb $50 million opening weekend while Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” stays No. 1 with $54 million to become the second R-rated film to gross $1 billion worldwide.

In diesem Jahr war nur „Alles steht Kopf 2“ besser, der bislang 1,6 Mrd. Dollar umsetzen konnte und damit zehnterfolgreichster Film aller Zeiten ist. The Dog Days of summer—vaguely from mid-July through mid-August, depending on who does the counting—may not seem like much of an Oscar crucible. You’d think most Academy voters would be sipping Margaritas in Malibu, or Limoncello Martinis somewhere on the Mediterranean.
But as often as not in the last fifteen years, the Dog Day bracket has produced a Best Picture nominee. And last year, of course, it brought a winner in Oppenheimer, which was released alongside fellow Best Picture nominee Barbie on July 21, and was still going gangbusters in mid-August.
There’s a certain rough charm to the Dog Day nominees. They tend to be audience favorites, movies that connect with the movie-hungry middle, which powers them into the Oscar race, whatever the somewhat fussier film professionals may think.

Disney/Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” has achieved its destiny, joining “Joker” as the second R-rated film to gross $1 billion at the global box office.
The film needed three weekends to reach that milestone, grossing a strong $54 million domestically this weekend to bring its total to $494 million in North America and an estimated $535 million overseas. With $1.02 billion grossed, Disney is the first studio ever to have back-to-back releases reach $1 billion, as Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” crossed that mark last month and will pass $1.6 billion in the coming week.
At this pace, exhibitor sources estimate that “Deadpool & Wolverine” is currently on pace to clear at least $1.4 billion in global grosses. That would be enough to clear the unadjusted theatrical runs of megahits like “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Black Panther,” “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and even “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

Updated: Deadpool & Wolverine has officially crossed the $1B global box office milestone this weekend, with $1.029B+ through Sunday. The international box office portion of the Marvel/Disney marvel is $535.2M and domestic is $494.3M, adding up to a total $1,029.5M.
In reaching and surpassing the coveted milestone, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-fronted threequel becomes only the second U.S. R-rated movie ever to get there — after 2019’s Joker. Deadpool & Wolverine is due to surpass Joker’s $1.079B gross by the end of this week, becoming the biggest R-rated movie of all time globally, and adding to its list of records. D&w reached $1B faster than Joker, though the latter film did not have a China release. This is also Disney’s second billion-dollar grosser this year after Inside Out 2, as well as only the second movie of 2024 to the post.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is the newest member of the billion-dollar club.
The superhero sequel, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as their comic book alter egos, has grossed $494.3 million in North America and $535.1 million internationally for a grand total of $1.029 billion at the global box office. It’s the second release of 2024, following Disney’s Pixar smash “Inside Out 2” with $1.558 billion, to surpass the billion-dollar mark.
Notably, it’ll soon overtake 2019’s “Joker” as the highest-grossing R-rated film in history.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” has been a needed win for Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. The once-untouchable comic book giant has shown signs of wear and tear with recent misfires like “Eternals,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels.” Though post-pandemic installments such as “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” ($956 million), 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” ($859 million) and 2023’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” ($846 million) neared the $1 billion mark,...

“Stay tuned, we’re only getting started.”
Those were the prophetic words of Moana franchise star Auli’i Cravalho at D23 today in a sit-down chat about the upcoming sequel Moana 2.
While there was no specific chatter today out of two Moana panels about an animated threequel per se, it wouldn’t be a shocker if Moana 3 happens.
Original animated films are hard to break with an audience and as Iger took over the reigns from former CEO Bob Chapek, the conglom’s mission has been to re-establish Disney’s former box office glory. No more is that evident in animated sequels: Incredibles 3 was announced yesterday at D23, and this summer, Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 became the highest grossing animated movie of all-time with $1.56 billion.

Inside Out 2 recently became Pixar's highest-grossing movie ever and, riding high from that success, the studio brought plenty of surprises to D23 last night (as we first reported earlier today on Toonado.com).
Pete Docter was on hand to reveal that the studio's first original series Win or Lose will begin streaming exclusively on Disney+ on December 6.
Directed, written and executive produced by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, and produced by David Lally, the new series reveals what it feels like to be in the shoes of eight different characters - the insecure kids, their helicopter parents, even a lovesick umpire - as they prepare for a championship softball game.
Will Forte lends his voice to the coach and the first teaser and poster have been released.

Disney has confirmed that its $2 billion-plus Frozen IP will get a three-quel in 2027. Disney exec Jennifer Lee, who is also one of the directors of Frozen and Frozen II, released a concept art of the film at the ongoing D23 event. The film was inspired by Christian Andersen’s old fairy tale The Snow Queen. The two films grossed a total of $2.76 billion at the box office.

Lee also hinted at a potential fourth film in the franchise, which obviously draws a comparison to Pixar’s seminal four-part film franchise, Toy Story. From the numbers and the success of Inside Out 2 & Despicable Me 4, the Frozen franchise is likely to surpass the $3 billion-grossing franchise.

This summer has been something of a dream for Pixar, on the Inside Out front. After a rocky few years, the animation studio has bounced back in a huge way with its follow-up to the 2015 favourite – which has become the biggest film of 2024 by a considerable distance, and earned the title of the highest-grossing animated movie of all time. (The debate over whether Jon Favreau’s entirely-cg photoreal Lion King adaptation should count as animation or not rumbles on.) And so, it’s no surprise then that Pixar is presenting more from the Inside Out-verse – and heading into dream territory, no less.
At Disney’s D23 Expo, Pixar boss Pete Docter unveiled a brand new project: Disney+ streaming series Dream Productions, set in the world of Inside Out. The show will explore the running of the dream factory inside young Riley’s mind – a concept introduced in the first Inside Out.

Here’s some super news sure to leave Pixar fans feeling all powered up: The Incredibles are officially returning. As confirmed at Disney’s D23 Expo, Pixar’s first family is heading back to the big screen for a third round of heroism, with the announcement that Incredibles 3 is currently being developed. Brad Bird, who directed 2004’s The Incredibles and 2018’s Incredibles 2, is back on board and beavering away at Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl’s next family adventure.
The reveal came courtesy of Pixar boss Pete Docter, who gave very few details of what’s in store – it sounds like it’s very early days on the film right now, so expect it to be a good few years before it hits the big screen. But it’s real, it’s happening, development is underway, and Pixar has another three-film-plus franchise on its hands, following in the footsteps of Toy Story and Cars.

Last year, we learned that "Toy Story 5" would be coming to theaters in 2026, but that was pretty much all we knew about Pixar's sequel to its longest-running and arguably most beloved film franchise. Thankfully, though, Disney and Pixar have revealed some more information about the upcoming follow-up at tonight's D23 Expo panel presentation in Anaheim, and /Film's Jacob Hall was on hand to experience it in person.
Andrew Stanton, the Pixar veteran who directed animated movies like "A Bug's Life," "Finding Nemo," "Wall*E," and "Finding Dory," is officially returning to the studio to write and direct "Toy Story 5." This is a homecoming for him in more ways than one: He's spent the past several years directing live-action TV shows like "Better Call Saul," "3 Body Problem," and more, and Stanton was also one of the credited writers on the original "Toy Story" way back in 1995.

Pixar unveiled a big new project Friday night at D23 Expo with its promotion for “Hoppers,” a body-swap story starring Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan and Piper Curda.
The story follows a young girl, Mabel, who can transfer her mind into a robot beaver with the goal of going undercover in the animal kingdom. She winds up befriending a regal beaver, King George, and uniting the animals to fight off the plans of a real estate developer. The movie is targeted for release in spring 2026.
Hamm, an Emmy winner for “Mad Men” and nominee this year for FX’s “Fargo,” will voice a greedy mayor with development plans. Curda, who voices Mabel, is a former Disney Channel actor who appeared in multiple episodes of the 2013-214 series “A.N.T Farm.” She also was featured in multiple episodes of the 2018-2022 CW superhero series “Legacies.”
Moynihan is an animation superstar and “Saturday Night Live” alum.

Pixar's "Inside Out" took us inside the head of an 11-year-old girl named Riley as she coped with moving across the country and coming to terms with the complicated feelings that come with beginning a new chapter in life. The animated movie delivered a story that pulled at everyone's heartstrings and provided us with plenty of laughs through the anthropomorphized emotions of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling).
Nearly 10 years later, we returned to Riley's mind as she turned 13 years old and suddenly found herself feeling all sorts of new sophisticated emotions while making new friends at a summer hockey camp. "Inside Out 2," which introduced new emotions like Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adele Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), became a gigantic smash hit, crushing records left and right and cementing "Inside Out" as a...

Pixar’s superhero family is suiting up again.
“Incredibles 3” is in development at Pixar Animation Studios, with writer-director Brad Bird — who helmed 2004’s “The Incredibles” and 2018’s “Incredibles 2” — returning for the threequel.
Pixar chief Pete Docter made the announcement on Friday during Disney’s epic presentation of its upcoming projects at the D23 Expo. Docter provided no further information about the project, but the announcement of a new “Incredibles” movie comes on the heels of the wild success of “Inside Out 2,” which recently passed “Incredibles 2” as Pixar’s highest grossing film ever (and Disney Animation’s “Frozen II” as the highest grossing animated film of all time). No release date has been set for the third film in the franchise.
The original “The Incredibles” followed Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl attempting to live a normal, mundane life when superheroes and super power activities were banned by the government.

Pixar’s “Elio” has gone through some pretty big changes.

Before Pete Docter left the stage at D23 tonight, he had one final surprise: “Incredibles 3” is coming. The crowd, understandably, went wild.
Brad Bird, the original writer/director of “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2,” is “developing” the project, Pixar said. What his precise role will be when the film goes into production isn’t known at this time.
Instead, Bird is in the middle of making “Ray Gunn,” his ambitious sci-fi detective story for Skydance and Netflix. The “Ray Gunn” script pre-dates “The Iron Giant” and was meant to be produced at Warner Bros. Animation, as a traditionally animated 2D feature. The project was briefly revived at Warner Bros., before Skydance head John Lasseter wooed Bird to the studio. “Ray Gunn” is now CG and is intended for release on Netflix in 2026.
“The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2” are two of the most successful and beloved movies in Pixar’s catalogue.

A few weeks after a Doom-filled San Diego Comic-Con, it's time for another big night of Marvel Studios news as Kevin Feige is set to take the stage at the D23 Expo for the Disney Entertainment Showcase, which will spotlight a number of major upcoming releases from Walt Disney Studios, including a number of major MCU titles.
With their Sdcc panel keeping the focus on next year's theatrical releases - Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps - and only one major casting reveal with Robert Downey Jr. being announced as Doctor Doom, the Marvel portion of tonight's Disney showcase is expected to primarily focus on the studio's upcoming Disney+ lineup, namely Agatha All Along, Ironheart, and Daredevil: Born Again, although we wouldn't rule out new looks at the films as well.
However, many are also hopeful that Feige and company will choose this...

With “Inside Out 2” blowing the roof off the summer box office, Disney and Pixar are all steam ahead on the sequel train. Next up on the slate is a return to the IP that reshaped the world of animation, “Toy Story 5.” Disney CEO Bob Iger announced development on the new installment in early 2023, with a release date later being set for June 19, 2026. At the same time as Iger’s announcement came, Buzz Lightyear star Tim Allen also shared via X, formerly known as Twitter, that he would be lending his voice to the iconic character once again. Though it had been rumored Pixar brain trust member and creative mainstay Andrew Stanton would be directing the 5th entry in the long-running animated film series, his involvement was confirmed at D23 today, in addition to new details being revealed.

Disney and Pixar previewed the first trailer for the upcoming “Inside Out” television series, called “Dream Productions,” at D23.
“Thank you for making ‘Inside Out 2’ the number 1 animated film of all time,” Pixar’s Pete Docter said onstage at D23 in Anaheim. “If you love the film as much as we do, i’ve got some great news.”
Docter said the new series, coming in 2025, is set between the first and second installments of the film — it’s an in-betweenquel.
The show is set in a studio where Riley’s dreams are made every night — on time and on budget. Some memories need extra processing, so they are sent to Dream Productions, and when Riley falls asleep, we see the film crew making the dreams like a film set.
