Channing Tatum began his career as a model before quickly transitioning to the film industry. However, among his numerous movies, the buddy police comedy 21 Jump Street deserves a special mention. This movie was so favorably liked by the audience that a sequel, 22 Jump Street, was created after it.

Both Men in Black and 21 Jump Street are classics on their own but what if you were to combine the two to create the perfect amalgamation? Well, if you don’t already know this, Channing Tatum and Will Smith’s respective franchises almost came together for a crossover film which would’ve served as the third addition to the 21 Jump Street film series.
21 Jump Street (2012) | Columbia Pictures.
Unfortunately, the idea was too good to be true and after a lot of hassle, the makers just gave up on it, much to the fans’ dismay. It has been years since the release of 22 Jump Street and fans are still hoping that the threequel will happen and collide the two worlds, especially after Channing Tatum stated that the film had the “perfect” script.

It was the year 1997 when Will Smith was introduced to the world of aliens alongside Tommy Lee Jones with the release of Men in Black. Being one of the most iconic franchises out there, the world loved the duo of Lee Jones and Smith as Agent K and Agent J, respectively.
With both actors bringing their best in the characters of K and J, people feel that Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are irreplaceable. After trying to replace them once, the film became a failure. Well, there are rumors that the franchise is once again going to attempt a Men in Black film without Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, and the people… aren’t happy.

"Men in Black" is a bit of a strange franchise. For instance: did you know there are actually four movies in the series? I bet you completely memory-holed the 2019 movie "Men in Black: International," but it exists! Hell, you might have even checked out after the disappointing "Men in Black II" and not realized there was a "Men in Black III." And yet, the original "Men in Black," released in 1997, is a near-perfect movie. It blends humor, heart, and incredible visual effects to craft a memorable blockbuster that still holds up to this day. The basic set-up of all the film is the same: a secret government agency known as the Men in Black police outer space alien activity here on Earth. Four movies later, the franchise remains lopsided, but you really can't beat that first film.

J Balvin made his return to Coachella on Sunday night, and he brought along Will Smith for a performance of “Men in Black” towards the end of his sub-headlining set.
Complete with backup dancers donned as ETs, a massive alien head popping up in the center, and a reprise of the 1997 film’s costumes, J Balvin pulled out all the stops for his Men in Black production. Will Smith emerged to perform the blockbuster’s titular theme song — halfway through, the track’s beat switched to a reggaeton groove, and Smith and J Balvin recreated the dance from the song’s music video.
The performance concluded with J Balvin being “captured” by suited backup dancers and Smith flashing the audience with a memory-eraser ray. Watch footage of Smith’s appearance below.

Will Smith was a surprise guest at Coachella on Sunday night.
The rapper-actor hit the stage alongside J Balvin to perform his hit song “Men in Black,” from his 1997 box office blockbuster film of the same name.
Smith appeared in Ray-Ban Balorama sunglasses and a black Dolce & Gabbana suit, the standard uniform of his character in the film, which starred Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as investigators in a secret organization who monitor and police extraterrestrials.
Smith and Balvin rapped the song together, while backup dancers dressed as aliens and a giant alien head prop added to the effect. At the end of the performance, Balvin was dragged off by two people in black suits.
Then, Smith was seen holding up the device used in the movie to erase the memories of people who witness alien activities, in addition to wiping out the memories of agents ready to retire.

Visual effects veteran Tim McGovern, who received a Special Achievement Oscar for the VFX in the 1990 sci-fi classic “Total Recall,” has died, his wife Reena NeGandhi announced Saturday on social media. He was 68.

To fully grasp the dire state of theatrical distribution of independent films, consider the words of John Sloss, founder and CEO of Cinetic Media, who recently told Variety:
“It’s imperative for all of us to get behind reigniting the theatrical experience because I don’t think the streamers are ever going to be behind the new voices and independent films. The only way to really get them out in the world is to put them in a theater where they can be reviewed and where they can sit long enough for word of mouth to really support them. That’s really the dangerous moment we are in, in terms of getting people back in the theaters.”
Suppose there’s a way out of the “dangerous moment” for independent cinema that Sloss describes. In that case, it will probably come about because of talented indie filmmakers like director Potsy Ponciroli and his experienced,...

Over eight years after the commercial failure of “Blackhat,” director Michael Mann is putting the blame where he feels it belongs: Michael Mann.
While promoting the upcoming Adam Driver vehicle “Ferrari” in an interview with Variety, the filmmaker briefly fell on his sword concerning the $70 million R-rated actioner. In January of 2015, it earned mixed-to-negative reviews and just $20 million at the global box office.
“It’s my responsibility,” Mann told the publication. “The script was not ready to shoot.” Like many of Mann’s pictures, “Blackhat” has gained a cult audience since its theatrical release, as well as a restructured director’s cut. While Mann blames himself, it also ran into the newfangled notion of audiences not wanting to see a big new movie star outside of his marquee character role.
Moviegoers didn’t care about Chris Hemsworth — talent and charisma notwithstanding — when he wasn’t playing Thor in the MCU.

Following the massive success of summer blockbuster Independence Day – opening at #1 and going on to be the highest-grossing movie of 1996 – Will Smith had his pick of what movie he wanted to do next, with countless offers hitting his desk. Whatever that project would be, he just wanted to avoid aliens. Fortunately, a director who has a lengthy history with extraterrestrials used his power – and some Hollywood flash – to convince Will Smith that his next project would in fact be Men in Black.
Speaking with Kevin Hart on Hart to Heart, Will Smith said producer James Lassiter first brought Men in Black to him. “[Lassiter] picked Men in Black…I kinda understood Men in Black like a little bit, but I didn’t want to make Men in Black — that was the next year after Independence Day. So I didn’t want to make two alien movies back to back.” Enter...

Will Smith needed some convincing to take on “Men in Black” and, with it, back to back extraterrestrial movies.
The Oscar winner revealed during Kevin Hart’s “Heart to Hart” Peacock talk show (via Insider) that he was hesitant to star in the 1997 film alongside Tommy Lee Jones right after “Independence Day.” It was “Men in Black” producer Steven Spielberg who later sealed the deal for Smith.
“I kind of understood ‘Men in Black’ a little bit but I didn’t want to make ‘Men in Black,'” Smith said. “That was the next year after ‘Independence Day.’ So I didn’t want to make two alien movies back to back.”
Amblin producer Spielberg contacted Smith directly and sent a helicopter to talk with him face-to-face.

It happens a lot when up-and-coming actors are featured in a franchise prior to their newfound star status. And when those actors strike it big, studios usually find a door to capitalize on it. Jennifer Lawrence was part of an ensemble when she starred in X-Men: First Class. After she became the face of The Hunger Games and an Oscar winner, naturally she became a bigger focus in the sequels X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. In 2012, a fresh-faced Brie Larson co-starred in the comedy adaptation of 21 Jump Street as a high school student and love interest to star Jonah Hill.
According to ComingSoon.net, Sony is developing a spin-off of their 21 Jump Street franchise that is aiming to be bringing Larson back as her character, Molly Tracey. Larson has recently been seen as the gun-toting, Belgian Ale-drinking Tess in Fast X and will also be...

Chris Hemsworth has tackled plenty of blockbusters throughout his career, including Star Trek, Thor, Men in Black: International, Ghostbusters, and more, but we haven’t seen the project he’s the most proud of. Chris Hemsworth told GQ that Furiosa, the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, has been the best experience of his career.
“I came into that film exhausted. I thought, ‘How am I going to get through this?’” Chris Hemsworth said. “Week one of rehearsals with [Miller], all of a sudden it was this reigniting of my creative energy.” The actor said the production of Furiosa was “by far the best experience of my career, and something I feel the most proud of. It made me think, the work isn’t what’s exhausting it’s what kind of work it is, and how invested I am in it and if it is challenging in the right way.

“The English” is hoping for a successful Emmys season coming up, with the show on the precipice for a Best Limited Series bid as well as a Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actor nomination for Chaske Spencer, while Emily Blunt is odds-on to be cited in the lead actress category. But they may be joined by the ever-reliable supporting player Rafe Spall, who emerged from Amazon Prime Video’s sweeping western series as one of the best things about it — if not the best.
“The English,” by creator Hugo Blick, follows Blunt as Lady Cornelia Locke, who is on the hunt for revenge in a search for the man responsible for her son’s death. Along the way, she meets Spencer’s Eli Whipp/Wounded Wolf, who is on a quest of his own — to claim back the land he is owed for his service in the US Army. The...

Anything you can do, I can do better – but not always. Television and movie franchises have existed since the beginning of Hollywood and have only become more prominent as the decades have flown by. Some of those franchises have gone on to become universal successes while others were dead upon arrival. Regardless of how the franchises might ultimately end up doing on their first go-around, there’s usually a director, writer, or producer out there that thinks they could have done it better – and they’re very rarely correct.
Reboots have become a typical standard within the confines of Hollywood over the last couple of decades and, unfortunately, have given audiences some of the worst movies in history. Whether it be a lackluster script that entirely mimics the project they’re trying to recreate or an out-of-touch creative who completely ignores the source material and makes a “reboot” that has...

The villains on "Game of Thrones" have some terrifying nicknames, but "House of the Dragon" might have the weirdest creepy-villain name yet: the Crabfeeder. Not only does he have a brutal method of conquest, but he's also already set to be a major enemy for at least a few of the show's biggest players.
Who Is the Crabfeeder?
Early in "House of the Dragon," we learn that Corlys Velaryon, among others, is concerned about the rise of a leader called Craghas Drahar, aka the "Crabfeeder." He is gaining power out by the Stepstones, a distant set of islands famed for their dangerous and pirate-infested waters but are also critical to trade routes. The Crabfeeder is currently leading the Triarchy, a group of Free Cities who have banded together to impose law and order on the region and rid their seas of dangerous pirates.

Movie grosses this summer were the real deal. They made a statement: Theaters remain the platform through which feature films make their best debuts. Also this summer: Streaming platforms had to confront their own limitations and growing pains. At a time when “House of the Dragon,” “Squid Game,” and “Stranger Things” break viewing records and generate more media attention than most movies, Paramount’s “Top Gun: Maverick” showed how a movie playing theaters can become a sensation that home events can’t duplicate.
That’s the good news. The less-good: Summer revealed and reinforced the ongoing weaknesses of post-Covid exhibition and they’re ones that even a 1.5 billion global blockbuster can’t touch.
Summer’s domestic box office — traditionally defined as the first weekend of May through Labor Day — will total about 3.35 billion. That’s about 77 percent compared to the summer of pre-Covid 2019. However, we’ve seen the definition of...

Sure, it’s been almost two months to the day since our last visit, but don’t you want to be taken away in the cool confines of your local multiplex? A head’s up: unlike the last two entries, our favorite Sorceror Supreme is nowhere to be found, though longtime fans will recognize a supporting player from his comics series. Unlike the three other highly anticipated franchises to debut since May — “Doctor Strange” (Disney), “Top Gun: Maverick” (Paramount), and “Jurassic World: Dominion”(Universal) — Pixar’s “Lightyear” (Disney) will be the only one to open under 100 million. Projections are around 75 million, which might be a generous assessment.
Why the struggle for the fifth film in the “Toy Story” franchise, the most lucrative in animation? In adjusted grosses, they represent a domestic total of over 1.8 billion and the most recent in 2019 earned 441 million. However, this is not “Toy Story 5”; it’s a Buzz Lightyear origin story, which reduces its initial potential.
It also faces competition. “Toy Story 4” opened around the same date in 2018 to 121 million its first weekend, on the way to 441 million domestic. It faced a weak field, including the second week of the flat “Men in Black: International” and a “Child’s Play” reboot. This year, it faces “Jurassic World: Dominion...

With “Top Gun: Maverick,” Tom Cruise pulled off a seemingly impossible mission: Getting moviegoers to leave their house and pay money to watch a sequel to a 36-year-old film.
The follow-up to 1986’s “Top Gun” jetted past box office expectations, collecting 154 million over the long Memorial Day weekend in North America and 248 million worldwide. Covid times or not, those are impressive ticket sales, as well as a career-best start for Cruise. What’s particularly notable is that they were racked up by a film that doesn’t involve superheroes, intense CGI, lightsabers or a rogue Tyrannosaurus.
Of course, nostalgia worked as a superpower for “Top Gun: Maverick.” But sentimentality alone did not translate to stratospheric ticket sales. Rapturous reviews (it has a 97 on Rotten Tomatoes) and strong word of mouth (it landed a coveted “A+” CinemaScore) were integral in getting butts in seats. In other words, audience members — and not...

Even though the first Thor movie grossed almost 450 million in 2011, few people walking out of the theater probably thought the God of Thunder would go where Captain America and Iron Man could not and earn a fourth entry in his franchise. Sure, some of this achievement has to do with Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. completing their stories in Avengers: Endgame. But it has just as much to do with the revelation of Chris Hemsworth’s comedic abilities and the total tonal shift director Taikia Waititi brought to Thor: Ragnarok.
For this unprecedented fourth solo movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth and Waititi not only reprise their roles as Thor and Korg but they’re joined by a team of Academy Award winners and fan favorites. Actress Tessa Thompson, aka 'Valkyrie' in the 'Marvel Cinematic Universe' films including the upcoming feature "Thor: Love and Thunder", is the new 'face' of "Armani Beauty", appearing in current campaigns for 'Luminous Silk Foundation' and 'Lip Power' lipstick, photographed by Mikael Jansson:
Thompson's film breakthrough came with leading roles in Tina Mabry's independent drama film "Mississippi Damned" (2009) and Tyler Perry's drama film "For Colored Girls" (2010). She then gained favorable notices for early performances in the comedy-drama "Dear White People" (2014) and as civil rights activist 'Diane Nash' in Ava DuVernay’s historical drama "Selma" (2014).
Thompson gained mainstream attention for her roles in franchise films, playing 'Bianca Taylor' in the sport dramas "Creed" (2015) and "Creed II" (2018), and for her starring role as 'Valkyrie' in the 'Marvel Cinematic Universe' superhero films "Thor: Ragnarok" (2017), "Avengers: Endgame" (2019), and the upcoming "Thor: Love and Thunder" (2022), as well as her...

Boasting a culturally diverse background encompassing Zimbabwe and Spain, Lou Llobell had a peripatetic childhood that took in both of those countries and South Africa before she moved to the U.K. After drama school, pausing only to serve as Tessa Thompson’s stand-in in “Men in Black: International” (2019), Llobell acted in sci-fi film “Voyagers” (2021) before landing the central role of Gaal Dornick in showrunner David S. Goyer’s epic adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s cult science-fiction book series “Foundation” for Apple TV Plus.

Almost 40 years after “Ghostbusters” became a smash hit — one that launched a lucrative franchise spanning film, television and video games — Sony is proving the business of busting ghosts need not be a relic of the past.
“Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” the latest big-screen installment in the comedy sci-fi property, collected $44 million in its domestic box office debut, a solid start in unpredictable pandemic times. The drop in ticket sales between its first and second weekend in theaters will be an important indication of audience’s affinity for all things paranormal, but at least for now, positive reviews and a healthy dose of nostalgia appear to be a winning mix for Sony. It’s an important victory for the studio after it failed in 2016 to revive the decades-old series.

Sony’s supernatural comedy sequel “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” is aiming to generate $30 million from 4,300 theaters in its domestic box office debut.
The final weekend figure could vary slightly, with the studio predicting a three-day tally near $28 million and independent tracking services estimating a start closer to $35 million. In any case, the PG-13 “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” is eyeing a first-place finish on domestic box office charts. In terms of new nationwide releases, its only competition is the Warner Bros. sports drama “King Richard,” starring Will Smith as the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams. That film is projected to collect $8 million to $10 million from 3,250 cinemas while playing simultaneously on HBO Max.
Jason Reitman directed “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” taking the reins from his father Ivan Reitman, who helmed the original 1984 film “Ghostbusters.” The first movie — featuring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis as ghost-catching parapsychologists — was critically and commercially successful, later spawning sequels,...

Exclusive: Emmy winner Steve Buscemi has wrapped production on his newest feature The Listener, starring Emmy nominee Tessa Thompson, Deadline has learned.
The contained film written by Oscar nominee Alessandro Camon (The Messenger) features only one on-screen role. It tells the story of Beth (Thompson), a helpline volunteer who is part of the small army that gets on the phone every night across America, fielding calls from all kinds of people feeling lonely, broken, hopeless, worried.

Eventually, Beth’s own story comes to light, revealing why she does it. All along we remain with her: listening, comforting, connecting – patching the world back together, one stitch at a time…...
