Couldn't even finish it
toncincin7 July 2024
So ... I stupidly tried, once again, watch a Lifetime movie. Couldn't even finish it. It just was not good at all. Sad that Ryan McPartlin was in it - because I generally like him. His character was pure slime with ridiculous lines. The writing/dialog was really bad. The story stupid. Why do I even try with these movies!!!! The only reason I knew about it was that TVLine hyped it (how much were they paid???). I figured if they "endorsed" it - maybe worth watching. MY BAD. I DVRd it - watched 35 minutes of it and deleted it. I can't see that it was going to get any better ... who watches this drivel and likes it...

The value of the film is an examination of communities living in isolation

3 stars because dramatically, it's mediocre. The value of the film is its examination of communities living in isolation. Whether they're religious in nature, cults or formed out of a common purpose, most outsiders don't know what happens in these closed communities. The film shows many problems with these types of communities and helps educate the public on some of the abuses, crimes, lack of adequate medical care that occur there - in spite of the identity of these being marketed as pure, lawful and having an idyllic lifestyle. Although the film's identity is more of a romantic/mystery, it examines the lack of power, equality & agency for women living in this type of religious community. This film made me sad & reminded me that society needs to work hard to educate people on how to protect themselves from mental and sexual abuse.
