This gives the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures product an overall total of $494.3 million. This weekend’s biggest theatrical release was the novel-based romantic drama “It Ends with Us,” starring Blake Lively, taking on the seemingly unstoppable “Deadpool and Wolverine” juggernaut. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Although Lively’s movie did very well, better than some expected, “Deadpool and Wolverine” stayed on top for a third weekend in a row with $54.2 million, down just 44% to bring its domestic total to $494.3 million. Marvel Studios’ latest is just one or two days away from hitting the $500 million milestone, a benchmark achieved by a mere 21 movies — see the complete list.
The Ryan Reynolds–Hugh Jackman blockbuster grossed another $57.8 million internationally this weekend for an overseas total of $535.2 million, and sure enough, it crossed the $1 billion mark globally, remaining the second-biggest blockbuster of 2024. Another landmark of note is the $78 million the movie has made on global IMAX screens, divided at $41.3 million domestic and $36.7 million international.

Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” (Disney) is the #1 film for its third week with $54 million and $494 million domestic so far. That’s a headline story, but the bigger news is the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s massive bestseller “It Ends with Us” (Sony). A romantic drama that deals with spousal abuse resonated with audiences worldwide, opening to an astounding $50 million in the U.S. and Canada.
Another title made the wrong kind of headlines. “Borderlands” (Lionsgate), based on a very popular 2009 game, debuted at only $8.8 million.
A $25 million romantic drama squarely targeted for women outperformed a $115 million videogame adaptation by nearly 6x. Cinemascore for “It Ends” is A-; for “Borderlands,” D+.
Expectations for “It Ends” were modest, perhaps $50 million domestic after an opening in the mid-teens, but it’s now a contender for the month’s top film; its best competition arrives next week with “Alien: Romulus” (Disney). “Borderlands” was...

Refresh for latest….: As we reported earlier today, Deadpool & Wolverine this weekend crossed the $1B global box office milestone, a major feat and with swagger to spare. But, hey, there’s a lot going on at turnstiles alongside the Merc with the Mouth.
Impressively, a female-driven title that cost peanuts is making bank. To wit: Sony and Wayfarer Studios’ It Ends With Us has had a mega $80M global opening. The international box office portion of that, before a lot of other markets weigh in, is $30M. Notably still to come are France, Germany, Colombia, Thailand, Indonesia, Italy, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea and Japan.
The adaptation of the best-selling novel by Colleen Hoover is just getting started with a third of the overseas footprint left to come and word of mouth chomping along. The film ranked in the Top 2 spots in 32 markets, running alongside Deadpool & Wolverine, and was No.

Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine delivered $54.2m in its third weekend as the newly crowned $1bn global smash surged to $494.3m in North America, staying top ahead of a spectacular $50m debut for Sony’s romantic drama It Ends With Us.
It was a great weekend for the Ryan Reynolds-Blake Lively household that maintained an encouraging summer season and for the first time saw two films earn $50m or more in the same weekend in the traditionally slow month of August. Studios will confirm numbers on Monday.

Two very different films are giving the August box office a rush of new energy, as Sony/Wayfarer’s “It Ends With Us” has earned a superb $50 million opening weekend while Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” stays No. 1 with $54 million to become the second R-rated film to gross $1 billion worldwide.
“It Ends With Us,” which carries a $25 million budget before marketing, has become the latest of a long line of mid-budget films targeted at women that is finding box office success.
Based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel and starring Blake Lively and director Justin Baldoni, the film has won over the author’s fans with a 94% Rotten Tomatoes audience score, an A- CinemaScore and a 4 ½ star PostTrak rating.
Just as important, Sony reports that nearly half of the film’s audience are infrequent moviegoers, meaning that theaters are getting revenue from untapped areas of the public while “It Ends With Us...

Platz vier gehört aktuell „Dune: Part Two“ mit 710 Mio. Dollar Kasse, gefolgt von „Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire“, der 570 Mio. Dollar umsetzen konnte.

The August box office is looking Lively with Sony’s drama “It Ends With Us” scoring a spectacular opening day of $24 million from 3,611 locations across Friday and preview screenings. The adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2016 bestselling novel is now looking at even higher projections north of $45 million across the three-day frame — a fantastic start for a drama with a mere $25 million production budget, well below the spend of the typical studio summer tentpole.
The popularity of Hoover’s novel on TikTok and marketing’s slant toward female audiences led many analysts to believe that “It Ends With Us” could come in well above earlier tracking. The film now seems primed for a second place opening through the weekend, coming in close to the third outing Marvel’s mega-hit “Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring Blake Lively’s spouse Ryan Reynolds. “It Ends With Us” was the top grosser on its opening day,...

Disney has confirmed that its $2 billion-plus Frozen IP will get a three-quel in 2027. Disney exec Jennifer Lee, who is also one of the directors of Frozen and Frozen II, released a concept art of the film at the ongoing D23 event. The film was inspired by Christian Andersen’s old fairy tale The Snow Queen. The two films grossed a total of $2.76 billion at the box office.

Lee also hinted at a potential fourth film in the franchise, which obviously draws a comparison to Pixar’s seminal four-part film franchise, Toy Story. From the numbers and the success of Inside Out 2 & Despicable Me 4, the Frozen franchise is likely to surpass the $3 billion-grossing franchise.

Matt Damon and Casey Affleck have both won Oscars for Massachusetts-set movies; Damon for writing “Good Will Hunting” with Casey’s brother Ben, and Casey for acting in the tragic drama “Manchester by the Sea.” Damon and the Afflecks’ latest Boston-set team-up, heist comedy “The Instigators,” is unlikely to win them any additional gold, but it’s a fun ride nevertheless.
Damon — reuniting with his “Bourne Identity” director Doug Liman — stars as Rory, a financially strapped middle-aged man who decides to give heisting a shot. He teams up with Cobby for some scores, and then gets his therapist Donna (Academy Award nominee Hong Chau) involved against her will. How does that make her feel? Not good! The cast also includes heavy hitters like Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, and Rob Gronkowski. Canadian exhibition giant Cineplex underlined the impact of its Hollywood movie supply upended by the 2023 actors and writers strikes as it released its second quarter financial results on Friday.
Cineplex saw box office revenue drop 30 percent to $114.5 million, and theater attendance, especially in April and May, was off by nearly 32 percent to 8.7 million moviegoers for the quarter, due in large part to the post-strike disruption to the chain’s release schedule with a reduced supply of product.
Box office rebounded in June with the release of Inside Out 2, followed by box office success with Despicable Me 4 and Twisters. But the prolonged impact of the Los Angeles labor action last year had by then been felt.
Cineplex swung to a Q2 loss of $21.4 million, compared to a year-ago profit of $176.5 million, on overall revenue down 25 percent to $277.3 million.

Every time I watch a Despicable Me film, it just makes me wonder if life would be really simple if we were as mindless as the minions. But then you look at Gru and realize that maybe some things are worth fighting for, like your place in this world. I mean, he is weak, talentless, and sometimes even dumb, yet he wants to become the number one villain in the world. In short, Gru is an inspiration. A beacon of hope who motivates us to not give up no matter how pathetic we are. Sorry, Gru, it wasn’t personal. But these are a few of the character traits that I felt were missing in Despicable Me 4. And even though it was fun, it wasn’t very impactful. Or maybe it was just me who expected more. So, without further ado, let’s explore the events of the film...

An exhausted Ryan Reynolds was overwhelmed when the opening-day grosses started pouring in on July 26 for Deadpool & Wolverine, the third entry in his audacious superhero series. By July 27, the impossible was within reach: The Marvel Studios pic was going to cross $200 million in its domestic debut, something no one thought possible for an R-rated film. The final number came in at a stunning $211 million, the sixth-biggest opening of all time and $79 million ahead of the previous R-rated record-holder, 2016’s Deadpool.
“I’ve been in some form of writing, producing, performing, editing and marketing of Deadpool & Wolverine for three years. I’d say it’s hard work — but it’s closer to obsession,” Reynolds told The Hollywood Reporter upon returning from a whirlwind global publicity tour with his besties, co-star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy.

In a major box office disappointment, the big screen adaptation of the beloved children’s book Harold and the Purple Crayon debuted to a meager $9 million this weekend, according to studio estimates. With a reported mid-budget of $30 million and an all-star voice cast including Zachary Levi and Zooey Deschanel, the underwhelming opening serves as a cautionary tale for nostalgia-fueled literary adaptations.
Based on Crockett Johnson’s 1955 classic about a boy who can shape reality with his signature crayon, Harold and the Purple Crayon seemed poised to charm family audiences with its charming story and star power. But heavy competition from sequels like Despicable Me 4 and holdovers like Inside Out 2 proved too strong, as the fantasy adventure struggled to find its footing among blockbusters.

Playing in 4,230 theatres, the summer smash starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman dropped 53% – a solid hold for a tentpole hailing from a typically front-loaded genre – and scored the eighth highest second weekend of all time, and the fifth second highest weekend of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Deadpool & Wolverine earned $8m on Imax and has grossed $34m in total.

Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” (Disney) grossed $97 million on its second weekend, representing a 54 percent drop. That’s in line with other blockbuster openings and an impressive achievement. Disney now has all four of the top weekend totals this year, including the first two weekends of “Inside Out 2.” (The Pixar smash fell only 34 percent its second weekend).
That gets the third “Deadpool” (and the eighth Hugh Jackman “Wolverine”) movie to $395 million domestic and $824 million worldwide by its second weekend, the best of 2024. Whether it bests “Inside Out 2” (currently $627 million) for #1 for the year remains uncertain. “Inside Out 2” is closing in on “Barbie,” which ended up at $636 million last year, but that’s a trivia point; much more important is what these films brought to the struggling 2024 box office.

For more than 15 years studios have done their best to avoid releasing their new movies on the second weekend of a Marvel movie. This weekend we learned the reason why. Read on for the weekend box office report.
As expected, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman‘s “Deadpool and Wolverine” won its second weekend in a row, topping the box office with an estimated $97 million, down 54% from its record-setting opening weekend. Not only did “Deadpool and Wolverine” cross the $300 million milestone domestically this past weekend, but with $395.6 million grossed in North America, it’s only a day away from hitting the $400 million benchmark, so the race is on to see if it can catch up to Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.”
Globally, the movie has passed the $800 million mark, adding another $110.5 million overseas this weekend for an international total of $428.5 million. With $824.1 million global, it has already passed the worldwide grosses...

“Deadpool & Wolverine” remains a box office force with $824 million globally after two weekends of release.
The comic book sequel, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as their antihero alter egos, has already surpassed the entire theatrical runs of 2016’s “Deadpool” ($783 million) and 2018’s “Deadpool 2” ($786 million). “Deadpool & Wolverine” is now the second-highest grossing movie of 2024 behind “Inside Out 2” ($1.555 billion) and the third-biggest R-rated movie in history after “Joker” ($1.07 billion) and “Oppenheimer” ($975 million). It’s expected to cross the $1 billion mark in a matter of days.
After this weekend, Disney became the first studio of 2024 to surpass $3 billion in worldwide ticket sales. And the Magic Kingdom managed to hit that milestone with only four nationwide releases, including “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Inside Out 2,” “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” ($397 million) and “The First Omen” ($53 million). Disney will attempt to keep the momentum with “Alien: Romulus” (Aug. 16), “Moana 2” (Nov.

Move over Passion of the Christ – there’s a new highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time now! Indeed, Deadpool & Wolverine, after only eleven days of release, has already overtaken the lifetime gross of Mel Gibson’s classic depiction of the crucifixion of Christ, with the Marvel three-quel only five million away from a $400 million domestic total. With a $97 million weekend, which only represents a 54% week-to-week decline, the film has already bested the lifetime totals of both Deadpool and Deadpool 2. The sky seems to be the limit for what will no doubt prove to be one of Marvel’s biggest movies ever – and proof positive that an R-rating is no detriment to the box office.
So far, the film’s international total is over $800 million, and it seems likely to pass the billion-dollar mark within a matter of days. That’s absolutely outstanding for an R-rated sequel.

Sunday Update: Deadpool & Wolverine continues to govern the global box office, now with an estimated $824.1M through Sunday. The breakdown here is $395.6M domestic and $428.5M at the international box office. On a worldwide basis, D&w has already topped the cumes of Deadpool ($783M) and Deadpool 2 ($786M).
It is the No. 3 R-rated movie of all time, and the 2nd highest global studio release of 2024 to date. Falling in behind Inside Out 2, this has helped push The Walt Disney Studios to become the first studio to cross $3B globally this year (the estimated cume through Sunday is $3.109B).
D&W saw a great 41% dip in the sophomore session overseas (with strong holds in several areas) and remains the No. 1 non-local movie in all international markets.
In milestones, D&w is the highest grossing superhero film of all time in Lebanon and Turkey while the cume to date has...

There is absolutely no stopping Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine.” After a historic $211 million domestic/$438 million global opening weekend, the R-rated superhero crossover is earning one of the top 10 highest 2nd weekends in industry history with a $96.5 million domestic/$207.5 million global total.
That brings the film’s global total to $824 million, putting it in line to pass the theatrical run of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in the coming days.
As it continues its unstoppable run towards $1 billion and beyond, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is now the highest grossing R-rated domestic release in box office history, passing a 20-year record held by Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” at $370 million.
After inflation adjustment, that total would sit at $616 million, but “Deadpool & Wolverine” is on pace to pass even that figure as it will clear $400 million domestic on just its second Monday in theaters.

All hail Marvel Jesus.
“Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring Ryan Reynolds (as the Merc With a Mouth who dubs himself the messiah of his world) and Hugh Jackman, has provided another jolt to the box office, collecting a stellar $97 million in its second weekend of release.
These ticket sales, down just 53% from its mighty $211 million debut, rank as the eighth-biggest second weekend in domestic box office history. Only billion-dollar behemoths “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($149 million), “Avengers: Endgame” ($147 million) and “Infinity War” ($114 million), “Black Panther” ($111 million), “Jurassic World” ($106 million), “The Avengers” ($103 million) and this June’s “Inside Out 2” ($101 million) have enjoyed bigger sophomore outings. “Deadpool & Wolverine” bypassed last year’s sensation “Barbie,” which previously held the No. 8 slot with $93 million in its second weekend.
So far, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has grossed $395 million in North America and $824 million globally, surpassing the first two “Deadpool” installments — with $783 million and $786 million respectively — after two weekends of release.

Japan’s box office is busy with several significant movies, including the latest anime movie, My Hero Academia: You’re Next, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Inside Out 2. The Marvel biggie returns to the top five. Keep scrolling for the deets.
For the unversed, the latest My Hero Academia movie is the fourth film in the franchise and was directed by Kenji Nagasaki. The movie was released in Japan this past Friday and has still a few months before it reaches the United States. Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s movie is gaining much traction almost everywhere it is released and crossed a significant mark at the North American box office. However, the MCU movie cannot stop the infectious appeal of two of this year’s biggest animations, Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4.

Zachary Levi must have really hoped that Shazam! was his ticket to the A-list category. However, his career appears to be going nowhere after the failure of the superhero film’s sequel and a couple of other failed films. His latest theatrical release, Harold and the Purple Crayon, is projected to become another disastrous entry from the actor.

Ever since M. Night Shyamalan made his triumphant comeback with 2015's low-budget horror "The Visit" (which he financed by re-mortgaging his home), it's been hard not to root for his movies at the box office. Shyamalan's filmography has had its ups ("Split") and downs ("Old") since then, but it's exciting to have a filmmaker consistently turning out original and unpredictable genre movies with a real auteur mark on them.
His latest offering, "Trap," stars Josh Hartnett as a serial killer who discovers that the pop star concert he's taken his daughter to is actually the stage for a police plot to ensnare him. It's a wild idea, inspired by an equally wild true story. Based on the opening day numbers, "Trap" will further cement Shyamalan's image as a plucky underdog by debuting in third place at the box office, behind "Twisters" (in second place) and the Marvel titan team-up "Deadpool & Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine is showing no sign of slowing down. On the contrary, it is enjoying one of the biggest second weekends in history as it obliterates more records.
The Marvel Studios and Disney tentpole earned another $28.3 million on Friday, putting it on course to gross a better-than-expected $94 million to $96 million in its sophomore outing for a 10-day domestic total north of $390 million. It also achieved another milestone on Friday when crossing the $300 million threshold and passing up Deadpool 2‘s lifetime domestic cume of $318.5 million.
By Sunday, the movie will pass up the entire lifetime runs of the first two films both domestically and globally after just two weeks in theaters. Deadpool‘s domestic earnings were $363.1 million for a global total of $782.6 worldwide; the sequel’s worldwide total is $734.5 million.

The self-proclaimed Marvel Jesus is in for a big second coming. “Deadpool & Wolverine” is dominating the charts again after earning $28.3 million on Friday. As the Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman superhero two-hander enters its sophomore frame, it has already surpassed a $300 million domestic total and now ranks as the second-highest-grossing domestic release of the year so far, surging past “Despicable Me 4” and “Dune: Part Two.”
What’s more, “Deadpool & Wolverine” seems primed to put up a much stronger hold than the average comic book adaptation. Superhero blockbusters can often see big drops in their second weekends after the first surge of fans have rushed to see the film. Rivals are putting the Disney release at a 55% drop though, demonstrating that “Deadpool & Wolverine” has immense appeal beyond Marvel diehards. The sequel has also maintains its play in premium large-format venues, like Imax auditoriums, this weekend.

As expected, Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” is continuing its unprecedented box office run, as it is projected by industry estimates to drop just 55% from its $211 million opening weekend to earn a stellar $96 million this weekend, ranking among the top 10 highest second weekends of all time.
That result would top the opening weekend of every other film released this year save for “Inside Out 2,” and means that it will pass Mel Gibson’s 2003 film “The Passion of the Christ” to become the highest grossing R-Rated film in North America before inflation adjustment. It also needed just two weekends to pass the domestic runs of the two previous “Deadpool” films, as it is well on course to clear $500 million from North American grosses alone.

A frosty start to the summer movie season was devastating for AMC Theatres, the world’s biggest exhibitor.
The theater chain’s quarterly earnings were severely impacted by a lack of blockbusters, with studio films like “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” “The Fall Guy” and “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1″ all collapsing at the box office. AMC is placing much of the blame on the actors and writers strikes, which delayed production for months last year and left theaters with fewer big movies to show in 2024.
Revenue at the theater chain fell 23.5% to $1.03 billion during the three-month period ending in June, down from $1.35 billion in the prior-year period. Net loss for the three months also widened to $32.8 million compared with a profit of $8.6 million for the quarter ended June 2023. Adjusted Ebitda stood at $29.4 million, down sharply from the $182.5 million in adjusted Ebitda that AMC reported in the prior-year quarter. Attendance also dropped precipitously,...

From comic book extravaganzas to intimate indies, a wide variety of films found success at the box office this weekend. Deadpool & Wolverine continued breaking records with a global haul surpassing $630 million, while Longlegs impressed critics and audiences with its unnerving atmosphere.
Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in their first superhero team-up, crossed another milestone with its international total now over $332 million. Domestically, it became the highest-grossing R-rated film ever with $298.4 million to date. Jackman congratulated Reynolds on Instagram for their collaboration’s “phenomenal” response.
Another smash was Inside Out 2, which has now earned over $1 billion worldwide – a first for 2022. Pixar’s heartwarming sequel about the emotions inside a girl’s head brought in $6.1 million on Friday for a projected $98 million second weekend total. With its humor and heart, Inside Out 2 looks poised to surpass Frozen II as the highest-grossing animated film.

The U.K. and Ireland box office hit £103.3 million ($132.5 million) in July, marking the strongest monthly performance since December 2023, according to numbers from Comscore.
Despite this uptick, the year-to-date total remains 14% behind 2023’s figures, largely due to the absence of a “Barbenheimer”-level phenomenon this summer.
Universal’s “Despicable Me 4” led the pack with £28.2 million after three weeks. The animated sequel has already surpassed the lifetime gross of the original “Despicable Me” (£20.2 million) and is tracking 4% ahead of “Despicable Me 3” at the same point. It currently stands as the third-biggest release of 2024, behind only “Inside Out 2” and “Dune: Part II.”
“Deadpool & Wolverine” landed at No. 2 with £25.3 million in just eight days. The Marvel entry from Disney scored the year’s highest three-day opening at £12.6 million and set a new record for 15-rated releases. Among superhero titles, only six films have opened higher in the territory.
