Watch: Video Tribute To David Fincher’s Regular Cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth
While he may not boast the same level of recognition as somebody like Roger Deakins or Emmanuel Lubezki, cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth has forged a distinctive visual style all his own over the course of almost two decades. He’s most well known for his collaborations with director David Fincher, beginning with 1999’s scathing “Fight Club” and going all the way to 2014’s “Gone Girl”: His icy, suffocating frames are integral to the fluidity and power of Fincher’s pessimistic worldview. And a video tribute has now landed online that highlights the man’s impressive body of work.
Of course, Mr. Cronenweth’s efforts with Mr. Fincher are front and center here — he’s largely responsible for creating the dark and often oppressive worlds of movies like “The Social Network” and “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” and it’s probably a safe bet that he and Fincher will work together again in the future. Cronenweth, though, has done fine work for some other directors too, including Mark Romanek with the spectacularly creepy Robin Williams-starring stalker thriller “One Hour Photo” and also the Anthony Hopkins-starring biopic “Hitchcock.” Oh, and he was also behind the camera for “K-19: The Widowmaker” and “Down With Love,” but no clips from either of those films show up here.
