The have’s and the have yachts

Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, sporting a gold chain and Gen Z curly hair, knows everyone’s roasting him online. From being called a lizard to claims he doesn’t blink, he’s ok with it. At 40, he says from his 387-foot mega yacht, if you’re gonna joke, “At least make them good memes.”

TikTok double-take: YouTube Shorts has copied yet another TikTok feature: AI voice-overs. Now, when you write video captions, you’ll see an option to add a voice. And if TikTok gets banned in the U.S. because of its ties to Communist China? YouTube’s ready to capitalize.

Lost my appetite: Viral posts on X claim celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Hanks and Robert De Niro are being banned from restaurants. The posts started as satire on Facebook, and now people are sharing “facts.” Don’t be one of them.

51% increase

In daily users on Reddit during the second quarter. Compare that to 1.6% for X and 7% for Meta (paywall link). Why the jump? With AI everywhere, more folks are turning to Reddit as a search engine that includes info from real people.

Amy Chan's Dating Bootcamp

If you think women want to receive 🍆 pics in the middle of the day, then Amy Chan’s dating bootcamp is perfect for you.

🧎‍♀️ This is bolo-knee: In videos with tens of millions of views, TikTokkers say the most comfortable way to sit on a plane is with your knees up to your chest and your feet on the edge of the seat, with the seatbelt fastened around your feet. This is a bad idea for a bunch of reasons — mostly because it could catapult you forward in severe turbulence.

The U.S. Justice Department is suing TikTok: Why? For violating children’s online privacy laws. They say the app with ties to Communist China collected data from millions under the age of 13, let them interact with adults and gave them access to 18+ content. Oh, and when parents asked for these accounts to be deleted, TikTok refused.

Scammers in the skies: Crooks scan social for posts complaining about flight delays and then pose as airline customer service. They’ll DM you about your booking or send you to a fake site to harvest your info. Only contact customer service using the airline’s official website or phone number.

🤬 Crap as far as the eye can see: Only 45 bot accounts on X have racked up over 4 billion views. It’s not for puppy videos; they’re spreading racism, sexual abuse, conspiracy theories and climate disinformation. If you see this crap, report it (steps here).

Watch your kids, please: Maria Gomez-Perez, 12, was on Facebook telling several adult male strangers she was unhappy at home. On May 29, 31-year-old Antonio Agustin picked her up in Georgia and drove her to his home in Ohio. The other day, Maria told her father on Facebook she wasn’t coming home. Authorities tracked that message’s IP address to Agustin’s home and arrested him.

63,000 Instagram accounts

Removed for sextortion scams. Does that number seem a little low to you? It does to me, considering the billions of people on FB and IG. Meta says it’s cracking down on Nigerian scam rings like the Yahoo Boys. It’s a drop in the bucket.

3,398 days (and counting)

For the longest-running Snapchat streak. That’s over nine years! Hannah and Lauren Luckey have snapped each other every day since the streak feature rolled out on April 6, 2015. If you’re dating someone and they can’t text you back, just show them this stat.

What a creep: Ava Kris Tyson will no longer co-host MrBeast’s mega-popular YouTube channel after allegedly sending risque messages to a minor. Tyson started chatting with the victim when they were 13 and she was 20, and she met up with them IRL when they turned 16. More sketchy posts keep coming out, too.

🗞️ Trust fall: Science says you’re more likely to believe fake news from an acquaintance than your best friend. That’s why so many scammers pose as long-lost classmates or distant relatives. Focusing instead on who’s sharing — not what’s being shared — could be the best way to stop fake news.

🇺🇸 Disinformation spreading on social media after Trump rally assassination attempt: Some posts, including those from elected officials, baselessly claimed President Biden ordered the shooting or the incident was staged. Do your best to avoid sharing unverified information. No matter which side of the political fence you’re on, it was a very sad day for our country. Prayers up for all.

AI Avatars gone wrong

Miracle Grow is NOT a supplement you should be consuming. Please don’t believe everything you see online.

300 million subscribers

On YouTube for MrBeast, aka Jimmy Donaldson. “I remember freaking out when I hit 300 subscribers 11 years ago,” he posted on X. Here’s a quick vid where Andrew and I talk about his rise to internet fame.

🚫 Teenage mutant bullies: Kids at Great Valley Middle School in Pennsylvania created fake TikTok accounts to impersonate their teachers, posting lewd pics, racist memes and homophobic statements (paywall link). They were suspended. It’s got to be so hard for a teacher today.

🦐 Anything for likes: Facebook hasn’t stopped AI slop like “Shrimp Jesus” from landing on your news feed, even though this junk is often tied to scams. Why? Well, it doesn’t violate their rules if there’s no nudity or violence. But really, they want to keep people sharing and liking. When you see a post like this, hit the three-dot icon on it and click Hide post. Hopefully, the algorithm will catch on.

Hand hearts: Gen X v. Millenial v. Gen Z

There are so many different variations of how to make a heart with your hands. I think Gen Z is just trying to be quirky.
