‘Fruit Ninja’ Designer Launches First New Solo Game ‘Feed the Deep’

It's a Lovecraftian horror roguelike

This new game from respected designer Luke Muscat will likely be a good one.

One of the co-founders of Halfbrick, the Australian developer of hit games like Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, has just announced his first solo project, Feed the Deep.

Described as "a Lovecraftian deep sea roguelike," Feed the Deep will arrive sometime in the third quarter of 2024. It's listed on Steam as compatible with macOS and Windows, and the new trailer shows off some gameplay and various interface elements, all over a lush soundtrack by the same guy who worked on Jetpack Joyride, Cedar Jones.

Muscat announced the new game over on X (formerly Twitter) with the trailer and a short little description.

A roguelike is a procedurally-generated game, which means the levels are created each time you play them. Typically, there's no permanent progression and when you die, you start over (permadeath), though some roguelite games will allow for that (think Supergiant's Hades, for example). Games like this are all about exploration and finding secrets hidden throughout, so Feed the Deep should be a fun time.

"Feed the Deep is a compulsive Lovecraftian roguelike inspired by the likes of Dome Keeper and Spelunky," it says on the game's Steam Page. "Dive into an ever-changing system of undersea caves. Collect resources that can be traded for upgrades and items. Explore ever deeper, managing dark spaces, limited oxygen, and hostile wildlife, and complete your mission to Feed the Deep."
