If you're trying to develop 3D CAD skills, I find working towards a training certificate is always a good starting point - for example, with Solidworks there are dozens of certifications available and by attempting them (whether or not you pay for them or get them as part of a subscription), you are able to build an idea of where your strengths and weaknesses lie in the areas worked on. This was how I attained Solidworks Expert certification for mechanical design, by working towards that certificate and figuring out along the way where my weaknesses were. Training in a non-tangible skill like this is difficult to measure without testing
