When identifying allies, stretch beyond your typical partners and consider those who may have similar missions, services, partners, locations, etc. And, after you've identified your key goals, determine who of your extended allies may have shared or complementary goals. This can build a groundswell to seeing the goal through with expanded resources to do so.

In my experience collective impact and or collaboration can be difficult even if all parties are goal/mission aligned. Creating a safe space means recognizing that organizations enter the collaboration with different limitations including time and resource constraints. Part of building relationships means openly talking about, understanding and planning around such constraints. Depending on the intended impact of collaboration, it can be helpful to engage a facilitator, someone who has nothing to gain or lose in the end result.
