In my opinion, stability is a primary concern and innovation comes secondary when a system is deployed in a real life environment.

that's right , new technology always risky, and i think some technology assessments is quite good specifically TRL and short check ✔️ point and mile stone for V&V good for risk mitigation . and carefully manage iteration and recursion generated during the process

I agree with this observation. System Engineering focus is to deliver a solution within the cost, schedule, constraints and boundaries. As long as the innovation does not induce risk in any of these, and if the stake holders appreciate the innovation, it may be adopted.

In the field of systems engineering, innovation happens daily. Embracing the idea of constant innovation is a great way to stay updated and ahead of new business opportunities. However, it's important to study whether this innovation might impact other system components. A good approach is to design and test the layout in advance. What’s written down is one thing; making it work in a 24/7 operational system is another. Being both innovative and safe is always the ideal.

Balancing innovation and system stability needs careful planning. I regularly check for risks to make sure new ideas don’t harm the system. By making small changes and testing them thoroughly, we can add new features without causing problems. Working together and keeping clear records helps us stay on track and meet everyone's needs.

Balance Priorities: when you have an urgent deadline or safety critical systems, you don’t innovate the product. Innovation requires time: time to contemplate, explore, make mistakes and iterate. When your options are schedule, budget & quality, and you can only pick two… it’s guaranteed that leadership will usually pick quality and budget, and expect you to stay on schedule. More time is never a consideration for those who control the purse strings, but to innovate, you need to plan, to build extra time into your schedule!

A successful project needs to handle innovation and risk in a balanced manner. We need to prioritize what steps are crucial during the leading process of our project and after that we can work with clear and achievable goals. We also need to validate the reliability of upgrading our systems, as sometimes with new updates there might be bugs that could affect our business performance.

You must weigh the benefits of innovation—such as increased efficiency or capabilities—against the eed for a stable, dependable system. This balancing act involves making tough decisions about where to allocate resources and when to prioritize one

A good system engineering approach is to focus on delivering a solution to meet agreed requirements. Innovation should be evaluated against the risk it poses to the technical solution delivery, cost, schedule and measures of effectiveness. As long as the risk evaluated on the use of innovation is manageable, it may be adopted. It is a tough project mgmt choice.

I would add that iterative feedback loops are very important in the context of stakeholder involvement. Especially in large projects such as production systems, it is important to regularly compare the customer's and user's ideas. The feedback can be used to make necessary adjustments and ensure that both innovation and system stability meet requirements.

I believe that continuous monitoring is essential for the success of any project. By staying close to performance metrics and system stability, you can identify and resolve issues before they escalate. This not only keeps the system stable but also allows for real-time evaluation of the impact of innovations. Fail fast, has become a Cliche' However, when things go wrong, changes are required, analysis paralysis is detrimental. When people work with me in fast paced situations they often comment they are shocked at how fast I move from action to action. If you are in an outage situation, trying something else is not going to make things worse. So, first I establish the cost of rollback. Then I decide what the maximum amount of time we can spend on a 'fix' vs the cost of a rollback, then I proceed to execute fix options until I run out of time or we find a resolution. I have rarely had to rollback in my career with this method. The other key to remember is to document what you changed, There is nothing more permanent than a temporary solution

First of all the systems engineer to understand and quantity the term " system stability" in simple terms it means predictable performance under challenging conditions for a given time duration . The question also assumes innovation means a certain risk so appropriate trade-off analyses may be performed prior to direct the decision

Ensure to recruit the right talent. When you innovate, it’s important to have a team who share the vision of the program. Alternate PoV is important but alignment with strategic vision is crucial for team to make progress and make breakthrough. Unless team member are optimistic and enthusiastic about the endeavor they would not give 100% of effort and would not be able to think out of box to deliver small wins which are extremely crucial to accelerate the path to bigger breakthroughs. Therefore it is vital to have a team which firmly commit to the vision and has courage to extend the boundaries of the known and dwell into the unknown territory to drive innovation.

One of the important things which we need to consider is the selection of right people for the right job.Subsequently you need to align them with the strategic vision of the Innovation is very important aspect in the project that need to be realised by the team you have for project execution.Post realisation every one will participate as desired by the company or project vision and you will get the desired results
