You're torn between a high-paying job and your passion for art. How do you decide which path to take?

1. There is no point in leaving a high-paying job unless and until one wishes to pursue art full time. 2. Sit down with your spouse and discuss and assess the reality. 3. Take a stock of fixed expenses, loans etc. 4. If there isn't a financial pressure, you can go ahead and pursue your passion full time. But remember when you wish to go back to the corporate with the same high-paying job you may not get the same amount. You may or may not have to settle for less. So be prepared for it!

My personal story. I joined pharma sales, did very well, but remained unhappy. I wanted to go to advertising. After 5 years, I left job and went to the metropolis to fulfil my dream. Came close to make it but did not. 6 months of hardships later, came back to pharma and grew to the top. Moral: Assess on the basis of your strengths, what are you capable of achieving and where. Do not just follow passion. Two, fulfilment is a multidimensional state, not just a profession. See where you can grow wholesomely. Three, Artists who did not have good business sense, remained poor, anonymous, and mediocre. Michaelangelo role model does not exist today.

Money is attractive but will leave you disappointed if you don’t love your job. My old business partners favorite quote was “ work is eternal “ I can assure you that it’s true so plan accordingly

This is a tough decision, However I would consider my priorities and interest. Would ideally go for a high paying job and follow my art passion in parallel.

If one can balance time, there can be scope for both, the high paying job as well as pursuing ones passion for art.This can be possible if negotiations for the job has been done such that it leaves scope for personal time . It may not be necessary that a high paying job has to consume maximum of our personal time

I have been an artist my whole life. Always hoping I could live (exclusively) from it, but always having to have other sources of income to support myself. Do not bring shop at home as a matter of routine. 3. Use weekend art to rejuvenate and ignite yourself. 4. Make sure that art becomes an important part of your lifestyle and becomes food for the soul.

And I believe, as time passes, you will be able to spend more time and money on your passion. So with patience and perseverance you can have the best of both worlds
