Justice. Compassion. Love.

About us

ADRA knows that beginnings are difficult. That’s why we assist people unconditionally every day. Because everyone needs a helping hand now and then, ADRA reaches out to families that need help securing the basics, such as food and water; establishing livelihoods; accessing health care; obtaining literacy and numeracy skills; and surviving and thriving after a disaster. To provide this assistance, our ADRA team of dedicated experts is present in more than 125 countries around the world, delivering aid and development to those who need it most and looking for creative ways to solve problems. Among other benefits, our many programs help people receive loans to start small businesses, skills training to find better-paying jobs, and health care to thrive physically. As a result, people’s lives are changed for the better, and they know that they can look to the future with confidence and be sure that they will be able to care for their families with dignity.

Meet Abed, a resilient 65-year-old From Gaza, whose life was forever changed after October 7. Once surrounded by his large family of 25, including 8 children who had all graduated from university with high honors, Abed's life has been marked by constant displacement and loss. He and his family have had to move shelters eight times, facing unimaginable challenges. Despite suffering from heart disease and lacking necessities, Abed's determination to persevere never wavers. "It is too much. You want to just give up and surrender to your fate. But, I keep telling myself and my children that we must keep going!" Tragically, Abed has lost three beloved grandchildren during these tumultuous times. Yet, he hopes for a brighter future where they can rebuild their lives together. ADRA’s support through Anera has been a lifeline in these trying times, providing nutritious hot meals. Abed shares his deep gratitude: “I am deeply grateful for these hot meals. Embracing the Power of Nourishment: Celebrating Breastfeeding Week As Breastfeeding Week begins, let’s come together to honor the incredible journey of parenthood and the deep bond between parent and child. 🌿 Breastfeeding is more than just nourishment; it symbolizes the strength and resilience of parents. 🌍 Supporting breastfeeding parents is a community effort. At work, this means providing dedicated spaces and flexible breaks. In society, it involves respecting and normalizing breastfeeding in public. At home, partners and family can help by sharing responsibilities and encouraging the mother. Let’s celebrate and support every parent on this sacred journey. 💞

Meet Mariclere, Mariclere was looking for opportunities to change her life. After fleeing her home country, she found refuge in a refugee camp in Uganda with her husband and three children. ADRA Slovakia was offering training sessions to help refugees make a livelihood through farming. The profession was very new to Mariclere, and she faced challenges learning the new techniques. Mariclere started her new profession by experimenting with different vegetables. She chose to grow African eggplants, and during the harvest, she sold them for 200,000 Ugandan shillings, eventually fulfilling her dream of buying a cow. "I am happy to be a part of the project because I have never seen such an organization that provides everything: knowledge, practical skills, tools, seeds, transplants and even spray. I got what I needed to grow crops and provide for my family," says Mariclere, who is now planning to expand her land to grow more vegetables. Stories like Mariclere highlight the life-changing impact of ADRA's work in empowering families to make a living for themselves, enabling them to build better lives. 💪🌱
