Today’s People Spotlight features Leigh Martin, an associate director and team leader from our Water business in our Australia and New Zealand region. Inspired by the glossy airplane brochures that he read in high school, Leigh decided to pursue a career in aerospace and mechanical engineering. But soon after joining this industry, he realized it wasn’t the right path for him. He took this chance to reflect on his career and explore other opportunities, joining our London team to work on the Thames Tideway tunnel — through which he found his true calling in the water sector. Six years after this career change, he has returned to his home city Melbourne, where he is helping to improve drought resilience and expand access to sustainable water supplies through major water projects such as the Upper Yarra Reservoir and Prospect Pump Station. He is also working flexibly in his role, which allows him to spend quality time with his two young children. Read more about his work: https://lnkd.in/ePC5_vCQ   #AECOM #AECOMVoices

Studies have shown that minority and marginalized communities are significantly more vulnerable to the impacts of disasters. Using FEMA's approach as a guide, our Disaster Resilience Lead Jordanna Rubin shares five key steps for building an effective, equitable framework for disaster response and recovery at regional and local levels. “To support the most vulnerable,” she writes, “disaster planners, emergency managers and recovery professionals must prioritize equitable strategies covering pre- and post-disaster response and recovery.” Read more from Jordanna about how equity-focused strategies can shorten the disaster lifecycle, reduce disproportionate impacts and promote community resilience: https://lnkd.in/eyQ4FfnB #AECOM #SustainableLegacies #AECOMIndigenousEngagement
