We bring researchers and donors together to cure brain diseases and disorders.

About us

Since 1992, the American Brain Foundation has been investing in research to end the battle against brain diseases and disorders. We are a national foundation in relentless pursuit to identify causes, improve treatments, and discover cures. We unite donors and researchers to impact patient lives and those around them. We invest in research of the whole brain and all nervous system disorders knowing they are interconnected. This holistic, innovative approach allows us to build bridges between diseases and break new ground in research and application. Believing in a whole-brain approach gives us an edge in understanding and combating brain disease. We understand that when we cure one of them, we will cure many. Learn more by visiting www.AmericanBrainFoundation.org. Mission: The American Brain Foundation brings researchers and donors together to cure brain diseases and disorders. Climate change and brain disease are both huge global issues that can feel overwhelming to tackle on an individual level. The good news is research is happening RIGHT NOW to uncover the connection between environmental factors and brain disease and help us find preventive measures soon. Read about it in our blog: https://lnkd.in/gBa-ZyHt

  • Meet Dr. Ana-Lucia Garcia Guarniz, one of our 2024 Next Generation Research Grant recipients! Her research investigates how certain substances involved in metabolism may contribute to an increased risk of stroke and post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). These findings will help us develop treatments that prevent stroke and PSCI in the future. Thank you for the work you do, Dr. Garcia Guarniz! • If you’ve ever had Covid, you might be familiar with the dreaded post-Covid brain fog. Well, this common symptom may soon be a thing of the past thanks to a new research discovery. While studying mice with Covid, researchers at UIC found that the virus hinders a signaling pathway that maintains the health of our blood-brain barrier. This finding led them to a gene therapy that stimulates the signaling pathway and prevents neurological problems like brain fog. For now, this treatment only works on mice, but researchers are optimistic for a human equivalent in the future. Swipe for fast facts!
