#Spotted: AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith, AmeriCorps Seniors Director Atalaya Sergi, our Office of Research and Evaluation, partners, and grantees at the annual AmeriCorps Seniors Convening! For three days, we joined our AmeriCorps Seniors champions from coast to coast to recognize their efforts, share how to better support our older adults, and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Senior Companion program. Since its beginning in 1974, the Senior Companion program has provided assistance and friendship to thousands of older adults who have difficulty with daily living tasks, such as shopping or paying bills. For fifty years, AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers have helped fellow older adults live independently longer and provided respite to family caregivers. Join us in recognizing and thanking our volunteers in the Senior Companion program for their support of our nation's older Americans. #Companions #AmeriCorps30 #OlderAdults #Friends

#Spotted: #PublicHealthAmeriCorps joined public health leaders and professionals at the NACCHO 360 Conference last week! Read more from Public Health AmeriCorps Director AJ Pearlman: Last week, I had the privilege of hearing how AmeriCorps members are not only addressing their community's public health needs but also finding their pathway through service. Together with leaders such as our partner Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Mandy Cohen, we explored how to better support our nation's public health and expand access across the nation while supporting the public health workforce. It was also exciting to meet and speak with more than 80 AmeriCorps members and alums of Public Health AmeriCorps. I heard from members on the ground who are addressing their community's #PublicHealth needs and how our alums found their career pathways through #NationalService. After graduating, Clinton’s plans didn’t pan out, and he didn’t know what direction to take. He said, “Public Health AmeriCorps, introducing me to public health, opened my eyes to what public health is, and I realized this is where I’ve been trying to get the whole time. I realized I’ve been working on and off in housing since I was 19, and I have lived experience in housing instability.” Clinton joined AmeriCorps at Ingham County Health Department, and after service, he was hired by Ingham County as a community health worker focusing on housing. Like Clinton, more than 4,000 AmeriCorps members are helping advance equity in our workforce, public health systems, and communities.
