About us
The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) is a nationwide grassroots network dedicated to fighting Parkinson’s disease (PD) and works tirelessly to help the approximately one million with PD in the United States live life to the fullest in the face of this chronic, neurological disorder. Founded in 1961, APDA has raised and invested more than $252 million to provide outstanding patient services and educational programs, elevate public awareness about the disease, and support research designed to unlock the mysteries of PD and ultimately put an end to this disease. To join us in the fight against PD and to learn more about the support APDA provides nationally through our network of Chapters and Information & Referral (I&R) Centers, as well as our national Research Program and Centers for Advanced Research, please visit us at www.apdaparkinson.org.

We’re all about helping patients and their families learn from each other. But, sometimes, it’s necessary to call in a little reinforcement. That’s why we invited Dr. Rebecca Gilbert from the American Parkinson Disease Association to the Smart Patients community to connect the dots between medication management and symptom control in Parkinson's disease. If you missed this conversation, don’t worry—the conversation is archived in our community. We wrote about it on our resources page, where we included a summary of the conversation, all the questions asked, and a downloadable resource - Check it out here: https://ow.ly/bXeB50SRYPl

What if PD could be treated by restoring lost neurons? If such treatment works, it could transform Parkinson’s treatment as we know it. Read more about stem cell research on our blog: https://lnkd.in/eqcupvEW #Parkinsons #PDAwareness #Neurons #Dopamine #StemCells

Jennifer Wexton, a Democrat from Virginia, has been diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a form of atypical parkinsonism, which has significantly impacted her movement, gait, and speech. Along with Representative Gus Bilirakis of Florida, Wexton introduced the bill called the “Harmonizing Environmental Analyses and Launching Therapeutic Hubs to Yield Bolstered Research And Innovation in Neurological Science (HEALTHY BRAINS) Act,” H.R. 9233, into the House of Representatives. The Healthy Brains Act builds on the success of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) previous Centers for Neurodegeneration Science to catalyze the advancement of research into the environmental risks for neurodegenerative diseases. https://lnkd.in/exsY35JT #HealthyBrainsAct #NIH #Neuro #Science #HouseOfRepresentatives #Virginia #Parkinsons #PDAwareness
