🇭🇰 Planting circles of biodiversity in Hong Kong: WEEE Park Forest. In the bustling and dynamic city of Hong Kong, an exciting and visionary project has taken shape to create a pocket forest within an e-waste recycling facility. The implementation of the Miyawaki Method is at the heart of the project; an approach that is particularly well-suited for urban environments like Hong Kong. By planting WEEE Park Forest, we anticipate not only the creation of a thriving green space but also tangible benefits such as improved air quality, biodiversity enhancement, and the reduction of urban heat island effects. The pocket forest will serve as an educational and inspirational resource, encouraging community engagement in sustainable practices and environmental stewardship. Hear the word “infrastructure” and most people think of transportation systems, telecommunications networks, sewage pipelines, and electrical grids. Sure, they make up the foundation of our towns and cities. But let’s not forget those hardworking trees that also provide an unbeatable service. From absorbing stormwater, to cleaning the air, to lowering temperatures, to reducing energy consumption, to making us healthier, happier, and more connected, trees aren’t just a nice-to-have. They don’t just help us live by providing oxygen, they help us thrive by lifting our mood and inviting us to play outdoors. Cities without trees are cities without joy. Without beauty. Without optimism. Because #ATreeCanBe a roadmap, showing us what it means to be a community.

Someone has to put the "green" in Greenville, SC 💪🌳 Everyone deserves the incredible benefits of trees. But unfortunately, not all communities enjoy these benefits equally. In underserved areas, the absence of trees can be keenly felt. It's why we're dedicated to creating and supporting programs and projects that focus on empowering people to plant trees around the world. Our friends at TreesUpstate know what it takes to create thriving communities. Together, we’re multiplying the good we can do where trees are needed now. https://lnkd.in/gkfCnGHd

Alone, in our communities, we can do so little. But by working together, as a network, we can do so much. Together we’re inspiring new tree planters and planting more trees than ever before. For over 30 years Alliance for Community Trees (ACT) members have planted, cared for, and advocated for trees, transforming our community habitat. Join us this year at ACT Day to network, learn, and be inspired by members and other industry professionals as we strengthen this network and industry – together.

Sweltering. Oppressive. Unbearable. For people around the world, extreme summer heat is becoming a lasting part of summer break. In the U.S., all-time daily record highs are becoming commonplace as climate change redefines what summertime feels like. But extreme heat isn’t just uncomfortable. The risk of danger rises alongside the temperature. Extreme heat already kills more Americans every year than any other weather event, hurricanes included. It has never been more important to plant trees in cities than now. Here's why: 👉 Increasing tree coverage to 30% of the city could reduce premature summer deaths in cities by about 40% 🔗 https://lnkd.in/das4EjKQ

In decades past, much of the fire-affected land would’ve naturally regenerated lost forests on its own. But because human-caused climate change has made fires burn hotter and longer, affected areas are so severely damaged that they struggle to heal naturally. Getting trees to regrow requires humanity’s intervention and investment. It's why we need bold leaders to step out from the crowd and help set a path toward restoration. Dan Lambe said it best in Forbes Nonprofit Council, "Corporations have the influence and resources to enact lasting, positive change. We hope more forward-thinking leaders will choose to channel that power into reviving the ecosystems that need it most." https://lnkd.in/g47W46E8

    CEO, Arbor Day Foundation

"Why replant after a wildfire? What if it burns again?" Our team at the Arbor Day Foundation is regularly asked these kinds of questions. While understandable, they are rooted in the misconception that the loss of a forest is simply the loss of landscape decor. The risk of planting trees in an area that might one day possibly be struck by fire does not outweigh the risk of losing everything the forest affords us. We need bold leaders to step out from the crowd and help set a path toward restoration. To rewrite the destiny of an area marked by devastation. To grow hope on a planet that urgently needs our help. Corporations have the influence and resources to enact lasting, positive change. We hope more forward-thinking leaders will choose to channel that power into reviving the ecosystems that need it most. Forbes Nonprofit Council | Forbes https://lnkd.in/gS8sm7mT

Ahhhhh-choo! Did you know only male trees produce pollen? And guess what type of trees are everywhere? You guessed it. But why? Because back in 1949, the USDA recommended only male trees be planted in parks and backyards 👀 Female trees, on the other hand, are not only pollen-free, but they trap the pollen that male trees produce. That's why our partner, Claritin, is on a mission to bring allergy sufferers relief in the form of female trees through their DiversiTree Project. And we're helping them plant more female trees across the country. Gesundheit. Now head to the link below to see how #ATreeCanBe mighty. https://lnkd.in/g8t39wdw

The Earth has set heat records for 13 straight months. The global temperature averaged over the past year is more than 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) higher than pre-industrial times, seeming to exceed the global agreed upon limit for warming. For people around the world, extreme summer heat is becoming a lasting part of summer break. Now more than ever, trees can be the answer to one of our most pressing issues. https://lnkd.in/d33vDAht
