Heathcare for All. Advocacy for the Underserved.
About us
Asian Health Services, founded in 1974, provides health, social, and advocacy services for all regardless of income, insurance status, immigration status, language, or culture. Our approach to well-being focuses on "whole patient health", which is why besides primary care we also provide mental health, case management, nutrition, and dental care to more than 27,000 patients in English and over 12 Asian languages: Cantonese, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Khmer, Korean, Tagalog, Mien, Lao, Mongolian, Karen, Karenni, and Burmese. We offer medical, dental, and mental health services for all ages. We also recognize that a patient's health is directly linked to their social and economic circumstances. That's why we are dedicated advocates, and we fight for legislation that make our communities a safer and healthier place to live.

The Sacramento Bee covered the recent AA & NHPI Roundtable Convening in the article “Language Access is a Top Concern for Asian Communities. What AAPI Leaders Say Can Be Done.” Discussing the goal of advocating for California Senate Bill 1078, AHS CEO Julia Liou stated, “The state (has) a vision for improving language access, so we are asking that the state really makes sure that vision is realized.” Assembly Member Phil Ting and Senator Dave Min for State Senate along with other leaders also provided their insights into the importance of establishing the Office of Language Access in the state of California Read more at https://lnkd.in/gitHxMcy

As part of #NationalHealthCenterWeek, Asian Health Services organized the AA & NHPI Health Equity Roundtable Convening in partnership with the CA AAPILC, the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs, and AA & NHPI Health Equity Coalition members. Organizers gathered with public health experts and leaders in Sacramento on August 6 for an important discussion on the significant language access, mental health, and anti-Asian violence issues faced by Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AA & NHPI) community. Thank you to our White House (White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders) and Federal partners (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)), including Erika Ninoyu, Kota Mizutani, Jeffrey Reynoso, DrPH, MPH, Melanie Fontes Rainer, who highlighted the implications of newly approved federal language access regulations in health care on California’s health policies and standards. Thank you also to Secretary of GovOps Amy Tong and CA State Chief Equity Officer Pam Cheuh, CalHHS Chief Equity Officer Dan Torres , Cal HHS Assistant Equity Officer Maureen Keffer, for your participation! Gratitude to the AA & NHPI Health Equity Coalition members who served as panelists and moderators. Language access continues to be a priority for Asian Health Services. #SB1078.. The dual pandemic of COVID and anti-Asian hate highlighted the lack of accessible services at the state level and the need for critical culturally and linguistically competent resources and workforce investments, especially in mental health and for victims of violence and racism. Happy National Health Center Week! Join us in celebrating "Powering Communities Through Caring Connections" as we amplify stories that share the power of community health centers. We encourage you all to advocate for your local health center. Christopher Dang, Asian Health Services’ Community Liaison Unit Manager, began his journey with us as a patient in the HIV Program and has been part of our team for a year now. Health Centers like Asian Health Services break down barriers to care using comprehensive services and access to in-language case managers. As Christopher puts it, “AHS matters because the fact is there is a large Asian community across the U.S., especially where we exist, the Bay Area/East Bay. There needs to be an organization like AHS to advocate for our communities.” #NHCW24 #ValueCHCs #HealthEquity

Representing constituents as well as over 160 community leaders, organizations and community members throughout the state, Asian Health Services is grateful for Asm. Wicks’ leadership on key issues in our community and urges California leaders to pass SB1078 which will be key to uplift the 6.4M limited English speaking Californians while saving costs.

Happy National Health Center Week! Celebrate "Powering Communities Through Caring Connections" with us. This week we're amplifying stories that share the power of community health centers and encouraging you all to advocate for your local health center. To kick us off, AHS family physician Dr. Kimberly S.G. Chang, MD, MPH shares her insights on how health centers like Asian Health Services drive health equity: "We are creating systems for our patients, community members, and everyone to raise their voices. To have a say in our democracy and how society runs. To have a say in solving the problems that affect them.” #NHCW24 #ValueCHCs #HealthEquity
